    Great suggestions! I also recommend a yoga mat, if you're living in a space with hardwood/laminate - makes ground work a lot more enjoyable and less of a pain in the back! Another suggestion are push-up bars. Find sturdy ones with a comfortable grip that allow you to extend your reps for more of a stretch in the pecs.

    Just got a set of rings and in my opinion, they are the best bang for you buck piece of equipment you can get. You can do all the basics on them (pull ups, dips, push ups, rows) and they are also useful for a lot of other things. I even hang some resistance bands from them and they are great for tricep pushdowns.

    Loving your channel content thank you.
    I made the decision 4 months ago my life needed to change. I started keto (dirty keto) and to my astonishment I’m now nearly 4 stone weight lost. I’m in the lower 14 stone range now and looking to start conditioning my body and have been going through your beginner vids 👍.
    One of my problems is my lower 2 discs in my spine are deteriorating so I’ve got to be careful but that isn’t going to stop me. I’ve already started DDP yoga (bed to chair workouts currently in week 3) to start getting my body used to moving more. On my list to work towards purchasing is the duonamic eleviia so I can start doing some hangs and beginners stuff and some dip bars. I’ve been looking at the style you recommended and I’ve got them on my list. I’m also next year going to look towards getting an outdoor galvanised pull up station or the pull up mate 2 but they’re along way off yet depending on my progress. I’ve already got some resistance bands so maybe adding some assistance bands to the list along the way.
    Thanks for your content it helps a lot 👍

    I didn't buy most of these, but that was because I didn't see this video or know of the channel at the time. I started buying home gym equipment in Jan, for the winter months when I didn't have time or the desire to go out again in the freezing cold. I did buy variations, a dip station etc. and free weights and I have found them more challenging than using machines at the gym, for all the obvious reasons. Love the channel and the advice. No one needs a gym now, or ever, imo.

I stick to the basics. pushups, sometimes with push-up bars, chin-ups on the Iron Gym, high rep bw squats. Switch out pushups for dips and chins for bw rows for variety. Squats are a staple. Do use “the wheel” on occasion.

    I know I am late to the party - just found the channel. You said you don't recommend the bosu ball, but I would like to make a recommendation for it. They are great for stability, specifically squats if you flip it over and stand on the flat side. It was a recommended exercise by a physical therapist when I had severe knee pain (won't bore people with the details). The balancing adds a nice challenge to body weight squats as well, teaching even pressure between each leg as well as heel to toe.
    Love the videos! Keep up the good work and great content!

    A door jamb is the vertical section of a door frame, which acts as a support for the remainder of the frame, as well as the door itself. Each frame has two jambs. The hinge jamb is the side where the hinges are installed, and the strike jamb is the side where the locking mechanism latches into the strike. The jambs are also used to mount the frame to the surrounding wall. The horizontal member that connects the two jambs is called the head.

    The BOSU is a great addition to add instability to any movement, making it harder. Especially if you stand on it flat side up. Stand on one like that doing squats, mace training, using battle ropes, throwing a ball or medicine ball, or doing push ups. When you get the hang of using it like this, it’s a nice switch up to regular movements.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  3 года назад +1

      Tom C yes, I personally recommend gloves, specifically for those who’ll be spending an hour or more a day on bars at a calisthenics park. It might not be the same if you’re just using home equipment because that will often have foam grips, but when I was going “all in” on outdoor equipment I had horrible calluses and they’d often tear and create painful wounds. Wearing a nice pair of workout gloves with the finger tips open was perfect for me to get around that.

    Hi Ryan, I have been shopping around for a dip station to use specifically for bodyweight rows and to begin learning the front lever using your tips from the video on 3 skills all beginners should learn. I was wondering what your opinion is on the style of dip station you use versus the style that appears to be two very tall parallettes? Lebert is probably the most advertised brand of that style.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  5 лет назад +2

      Shay Daylami I actually really like the "two very tall parallettes" version of dip bars. I'm contemplating getting the Frank Medrano signature Lebert Equalizers (amzn.to/2EiMPFO). You can do additional exercises on them, like straight bar dips. The reason why I have and recommend the Ultimate Body Press is because it's easily collapsible. Being able to hide it easily was a huge factor for me in my old house. Now I have the space, though.

    Do you have any plans/nutrition tips to burn that lower stomach fat? I am exactly the same build as you (albeit 6'2, so appear slimmer) , 9% Body Fat and literally all that remains and I want to burn is lower stomach fat, it drives me mad. Maybe I should go back to Intermittent Fasting... Thank you for videos, they are always great help!

    Hey! Could we see an ab wheel progression video? I can roll out slowly but retracting is still beyond my capabilities... Cheers!

    I noticed you had some straps attached to the gymnastic rings when you did Australian pullups. What are they called and where do I get some?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  5 лет назад

      Two Point Four Kids the straps and buckles come included with the rings. At least they are with the pair I got: amzn.to/2Bi69RO The straps are perfect to wrap around a sturdy pull-up bar to suspend the rings. I've also heard of people hanging them from an i-beam with a couple heavy bag hangers and carabiners.

    So I turn 49 this month, what I was wondering if this is something I could realistically work up to? What would you recommend doing to start out?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  2 года назад +1

      To start out, you could just do floor exercises: push ups, squat thrusts, straight bridge, various functional exercises, etc. Then once you’ve built a solid foundation, a pull up bar and parallel bars are good investment. If you want to see an example, check out the Square One program in my app: trybe.app.link/minusthegym

    Would you be able to do an inverted hang with that dip bar? I’m afraid it won’t be stable if done.

    What if I have horrible wrists damage? What do you recommend? I've had multiple surgeries and that push-up position is impossible for me to achieve. I'm fat and a heart attack surviver with 4 stent implants. I have two little kids I'd like to see graduate grad, middle and high school at least... although college and a wedding would be great to see too. Anyways please help. I respect and believe what you are preaching brother.

      SG483 this probably isn't the answer you're expecting from me, but I really do want to help. Since you've had serious heart problems and you're clearly concerned with your longevity and want to see your kids grow up, I HIGHLY recommend the book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., MD. I got my copy on amazon: amzn.to/2PWfYOW . In that book, Esselstyn explains a diet he uses in his practice that has been proven to reverse heart disease. He's shown this with before/after angiograms, plus the sheer number of patients he's worked with that have seen success are a good testimony to the diet as well. They were basically sent home to die by their cardiologists, but then were deferred to Esselstyn and he was able to keep them alive and well for DECADES using the diet he recommends.
      My recommendation to you is to get that book and read it cover to cover. The information it contains is astounding. You'll learn that exercise comes second to proper nutrition, especially once chronic disease has set in.
      Implement the diet it teaches because it will help you lose weight while truly restoring your cardiovascular health. It will help you be truly healthy (internally) instead of relying on surgeries and pills. Light exercise like daily walking is a good thing during the process, but work with your doctor to make sure you have his/her blessing. As your cardiovascular health improves, you can start increasing the intensity of your exercise with the calisthenics exercises I show on my channel. My beginner routine would be a good start at that point, but start off with the 1st progression of each exercise and rest as needed between exercises. Please, do NOT start my beginner routine if you don't read the book I recommend first. Proper nutrition for your cardiovascular system is #1 priority before exercise. The idea is: restore your health with nutrition, then amplify that good health with exercise later.
      Regarding the wrists, if you still have pain after losing weight, which it sounds like you might due to all the surgeries, you can try using push-up grips or parallettes. The neutral grip puts a lot less strain on the wrist in comparison to a prone grip (palms flat on the floor).
      Best of luck to you.

    Do you recommend on going to a gymnastics gym or a calisthenics park? Cuz I don’t know whether there is one near me and I don’t know if I really want to train with people until I’m more advanced ..
    Can you get more than intermediate at home?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  5 лет назад

      Keg Wg you don't need to go to a calisthenics park or gymnasium. I mean, that's awesome if you can, but it's not necessary. You can learn whatever you want at home. There's no limit. For example, I wanted to learn the bar muscle up but I didn't have a bar I could get above and no parks close to my home, so I built my own in-ground pull up bar in my backyard (cemented into the ground). Where there's a will, there's a way.
      You can learn handstand, handstand pushups, one arm handstand, back bridge, elbow lever, L-sit, V-sit, manna, planche... all those kills require no equipment. So while gyms/parks are nice, they're not necessary.

    Minus the gym how often are you suppose to deload for and is it necessary?

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  4 года назад

      Kylie Vereen yes, it's very necessary to give your body a break with a deloading phase now and then. You'll avoid or at least reduce plateaus that way. I explain it quite a bit in this video: ruclips.net/video/h3Cawty-7L8/видео.html
