  • @poodlebone

    Even though the mat is 12x12 the machine will only cut a maximum of 11.2x11.5, and that's why there's the .25" gap. You also don't have to move the rectangle to the very top of your canvas. When you tell it to cut the machine will always position the cuts in the upper left of the cutting mat. You can move it once you get to that step but if you actually want it there, no extra steps are needed!

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  4 года назад

      Thanks for the info - I've never tried cutting anything bigger than 8.5 x 11 and once I found something that worked I stuck with it 😀

    • @sonyasonya9047
      @sonyasonya9047 3 года назад +1

      Actually, the maximum cut size is 11.5" x 11.5". And, yeah, you don't need to move the rectangle to 0,0 on the canvas; it will go to the top left corner of the cut mat on its own when you press "Make It".

    What printer settings did you use for scaling? I’m having trouble aligning the print size with the size of the cut file. The cutting is good, but the print size is either too small or too large. Can’t seem to get it right.

    • @ToddTronics

      so i had a huge issue with this let me tell you what i did. I save all my print files as PDF and use adobe reader (acrobat) to print them i select the actual size before printing keep in mind you will need to go into the prefrences and select print as image to get color and you will need to use the printer settings in adobe to choose your print quality/ paper type. i also do this for printing out my calibration sheets

      Thanks for the tip! Yes a lot of ppl have been having issues with their printer, which even the tiniest change would make cuts off. The only thing I can really suggest is googling your exact printer model and how to remove margins / borders or how to print borderless. Some printers may not have the ability to do this unfortunately, but you'll have to do some research.

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 года назад

      I haven't tried it myself, but I would think it would be the same process and work just the same. I believe the only difference between the Maker and the Explore Air 2 is the type of materials it can cut.

  • @connienewbold6520
    @connienewbold6520 9 месяцев назад

    Just curious, why would you not use this perfectly positioned mat for calibrating print-then-cut?

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  8 месяцев назад

      The print-then-cut feature prints a large black border probably an inch from the edge of the paper which really limits your space to print things. Whereas the "hack" lets you print all the way to the edge of the paper therefore fitting more items on it. Also even when using the print-then-cut feature (which I have) it still doesn't always cut properly. This video is 3 years old now and I no longer use the Cricut. Over the years I've spent too much time, energy, money, and materials just trying to produce something decent. The machine is never consistent no matter how much calibrating you do. If I want anything made these days, like stickers, I'm outsourcing because from my experience the cost is the same or less and it saves so much time. If stickers aren't cut right then usually the manufacturer will just re-do them for you for free saving you all the hassle....but that's just my opinion 🙃

    I can't get the tutorial to work with A4 (210mm x 297mm) sized paper. I get an error saying: 'At least one of your images is larger than 11.5" (29.2cm) in height or width. Select O.K. to continue with a larger mat or Cancel to return to the canvas to reduce the size.' Looks like using 'Shapes' is reverting to the US letter paper size. Seems strange as here in the UK we use the metric system for our paper sizes and I've got Cricut Design Space set up for A4 sized material. Anyone got a suggestion as to what's wrong? Thanx.

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration

      The tape shows the outline of where to place your sticker paper. This hack is to bypass the Print Then Cut feature, to allow more room for stickers. Perhaps if you watch Part 2 you will understand.

    • @JessicaLynnIllustration
      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 года назад +1

      The inside square comes out to be 8.5 x 11 inches if you follow all the same measurements as I do. You can use thinner tape but you want to make sure to do a couple strips on each side so it's wide enough for the machine to cut the square out...if that makes sense

      @JessicaLynnIllustration  3 года назад

      Yes you should be able to. In the DesignSpace software on the left there is a shapes button. I would measure your vinyl where you want to cut and assuming it's one of those basic shapes you could just use those and adjust the size. If you are looking for a custom shape/cut thats where it could get tricky...you would have to either scan your work or take a picture, use an editing program to create your outline for your cut, export the cut lines as a .png file and upload to DesignSpace. It's doable, but a lot more work and room for error. Never heard of screen printed vinyl before, but it sounds cool!
