Good info on the 3 stages of the auto transmission, I also have an 09 Cooper r56 hardtop BRG BLK top w/ auto trans and I really want to keep it going. I had the transmission fluid service at 95k it’s extremely smooth. I love my r56!
Thanks for the info on the sport button, my wife has a RHD 2013 Cooper with a manual gearbox which I drive now and again , I've never bothered to use the sport button up until now. I Don't think I've ever seen an automatic Mini Cooper before until watching this video. Maybe because I live in England and manual gearbox cars are more common.
I just got a MY Mini was a gift... I fell in love at first test drive!!! Have no clue how to really drive it... I'm learning from you..I wish I knew this before!! The person who got it for me. Had to take my car... When he came home from work trying to get a renal car... IT SCARED HIM!!!! 😂LOL!!! It comes with no spare tires.. I just learned this.. No Jack came with the car
I have a 2012 R56 here in India. Cooper S. N18 Peugeot Prince Engine. Aiding AT 6 speed. Every time I hit the Sport button I find that the car immediately tightens up and and becomes even more responsive than stock. And those pops and bangs and burbles on the exhaust overrun especially when cruising down a hill is addictive. You are right that if you stick the AT in Manual the car does hold its gears a lot more and goes right up to the higher revs in each gear.
I have a 2015 Mini Cooper Coup S love the exhaust sound. I always drive in sport mode and manual mode as well. Funny thing is driving more spirited produces better gas mileage. My wife has a led foot and drives in "standard" non sport mode and gets worse milage. Every time i drive the car... Spirited mind you the milage goes up. Like the video.
I am old-school and with the automatic transmission I don’t use the power shifters in power mode I use the stick to shift up and down just like a regular manual transmission.
Thank you for the information. I liked your video. I subscribed, and I am looking forward to learning from you and all your subscribers. I have two minis , I have a Red 2003 R53 S hatchback with 229,000 miles on it, and it feels and runs like new . I also have a 2007 R56 Non-s hatchback , with 101,000 miles , and also runs great . But it's getting a P2178 code . Yesterday, I replaced VVT solenoid value on the back side . Also, the upstream o2 sensor and I put in new plugs and new coils . I also replaced the mass air flow sensor. And changed the oil & oil filter. Last night, my wife and I took it out to go through the drive cycle after clearing the code with my bluedriver scan tool . We went through the drive cycle twice . And now there is no check engine light on . And I think I need some more drive time on it . Oh, and I also had put in cataclean following those instructions to the letter . Because it worked well on my R53 last month . If you have any suggestions on that P2178 code, I would appreciate any advice. We used to belong to the SIN CITY MINI CLUB here in Las Vegas. but they stopped having meetings. This is some good information. I think my father taught me to drive stick with sport mode on and now I know why there is more play with the throttle when I drive. I assumed it stayed on when you started it.
I just bought a 2011 Clubman S and I had no idea what sport mode was, except that it's for "sporty" driving. I always drove manual Japanese cars, but I had read about shifting with paddles and a car columnist I used to work with said that I would enjoy it. I had a r53 sold that bought a r56 didnt like it as much till i found the sport button lol def makes it more mini just wish i didnt have to hit it everytime i get in the car good vid
You can program that it is standard ON when you start the engine. It is like that in my R58. The previous owner let it it tune and program the sportbutton like you wish.
Yea have the N18 engine and the pops are noticeably louder in sport mode. Also saw somewhere you can stay in sport mode even if you turn your car off. There is some way to sync with your smart phone so you don’t have to depress the button every time you turn on the car.
I don't leave it on all the time. I don't know if there is any basis to it, but I feel like the more frequent thermostat opening may cause more wear and tear and I wonder if it causes greater strain on the clutch and power train. I do turn it on about 2 minutes before I get to my destination to cool it down before I shut the car off. 2012 R58 Coupe S
I have a 2009 R56 and when I put it on sport mode after a few seconds on the highway or spirited driving as you put it I get a P2885. Boost pressure deviation plausibility and it goes on safe mode.
the only benefit to turning off sport mode is mileage and maintenance right? still surprisingly fun to drive with sport off, but man it makes such a huge difference
Do you by any chance know what is the voltage at the Sports mode button when it is activated? I'm thinking to use that signal to activate the water/meth system.
okay so you said it gives you more pops and bangs with the n18, its the same thing with the n14. mine pops out of sport mode, but when i turn it on, any amount of throttle for even a second makes it pop like crazy because i deleted the cat. mind you, i have the manual transmission, Australia/Euro spec car which has 1 less cat than the US spec car. 2007 mini cooper s lol

Does the sport mode option use up more fuel?
Yes because you are shifting later
“You bought a sports car with paddle shifters” yeah my mom don’t listen to that.. her 2018 Mini Cooper S only leaves drive and mid mode when me and my dad are driving
Does it have a tune?😂😂. Great video
Stage 3 RPM tune
Wish sport mode gave my all4 launch control
Yo does ur car have a tune ?
Yes, I’m stage 3 RPM Tuned
I've also read that it increases your turbo by 1PSI
I haven’t heard that and don’t believe it to be true.
😂😂😂
Is it hard on your car driving with the sport mode on?
The big downside to leaving sport mode on is a large decrease in fuel milage.
So, do you recommend a pedal controller for even faster response?
I do I always hoped that sports mode on the automatic put sport mode on D and then over to the right shift and he has pretty good peeep
Haha I also put my key in the left cup holder
It’s a perfect spot 😂
@@ProjectMini yeah but recently I’ve been reading that the keyhole will actually charge ur key for you, depends on what battery ur using and whatnot so after more research I might need to stop throwing the key in the cup holder
I don’t drive with the key in the cup holder, its just there when I’m at home working on my car
@@ProjectMini ahhh I see, I usually throw it in there so I don’t lose it
