Agree mate, I had a 200 bhp R53 and now an F56 JCW, the JCW is definitely faster by far, and drinks far less petrol and oil, but the original supercharged engine had a shit load of character for sure and the response was unmatched for sure
Mini supercharged are NOT meant for straight line race they belong on twisty road/track that's why they are the best handling car. Better spend money for a track car rather than power.

Ive had 2 of these. They are brilliant, they handle like nothing else - incredibly solid. My 2 proved very reliable after doing the supercharger service. They are hilariously powerful, lovely to drive long and short distance and parts are cheap and plentiful. The killer for me was the £400 a year road tax and the less than 30mpg.
Great video, and does anyone else agree Taylor's just wasted,he could go far it's the only time you get a decent car revue, and knows his stuff, and funny with it,on you go taylor
To be honest, Alex is a bit preoccupied nowadays with his familylife offcourse, meanwhile Rory getting more hours in front of the camera with Taylor will change the dynamics in between the lads somewhat, which we viewers will notice.. Regarding the camerawork in the previous video: i think something went wrong accidently. Maybe some footage was lost, a cameraman got sick, a camera broke... One of those things happend, i think. Those things can ruin a video and therefore perhaps also the atmosphere. I think Alex is more sensitive than he may appear on camera, and that might have put him a bit 'off'. I am not sure, but i feel like thats the case.
@@eefjuh5533 Agree with all that but Alex is also trying to hard, like he has 1 idea of how to act on camera and needs to keep pushing that. However car throttle videos used to be 1 a week maybe often with more time in between, with several channels and being in 3/4 videos between autoalex/ v2/ podcast that way of acting gets tiring very quickly. The man’s nearly 40 and we all like a laugh and take the piss out of each other with our mates but Alex goes overboard.
@@eefjuh5533 I am sure Alex is a great presenter and running a business with so many channels, and employees and having a family makes it hard to be "present". He was great in one of the latter videos, but I can't count on him to be great these day, I can with Taylor 🙂
I have had an r56 and an f56 and they were both fantastic cars, Unfortunately my f56 was in a horrendous crash and I miss it every day haha, as soon as I can scrape to funds together I would love an r53 but they are so hard to come by in the north of Scotland, keep up the content
got one, love it get audi tt 225 injectors, 15%pully,jcw style intake, better flowing exhaust and a tune from adrian cl makes a massive difference to power and mpg
My R52 just turned 20. No service engine lights. Cold a/c. Supercharger whine is so satisfying. Moved to a 15% reduction pulley when we serviced the supercharger. It’s a hoot.
👏🏻👏🏻 my mrs loves her r53. I’ve done a lot of work on it myself, mainly preventative maintenance. The only thing we have had go wrong is the crank hub coming apart, replaced with a solid aluminium one.
Thanks 👍, that was a great, very informative into the joys of BMWs little one series mini ownership, glad to see how fun they are to drive and maintenance... Yes you could be part of the next generation top gear presenters to complete with 5th gear for a motoring show using tech so it becomes a remote service as the future isn't tv is has evolved rather quickly into internet broadcasting..... You guys as a team could push this as the potential is there 👌👍👍
I had one a few years back. Similar vintage. Only mods were reduced Kavs pulley and different speakers, oh and led side lights, which I recommend on yours. Mine had Sat nav in the centre binnacle too, and pan roof.
I've got one of these on an 04,standard except for a pipercross sports filter and a malian stainless steel sports exhaust which sounds awesome! I'm tempted to get a 15% reduction pulley and bigger intercooler. I still can't believe how cheap they still are, everyone who's driven one absolutely raves about them, so not for much longer!😅
This brings so many emotions back, I love these cars!.. I had two a Cooper S and a JCW previously and really enjoyed them. Loved how nimble, planted and peppy they were. The interior is really cool and the seating position is spot on! And the noise of the supercharger, oh I completely agree, it’s intoxicating! Sadly due to various reasons I couldn’t keep them a few years ago and the both had to go, miss them a lot… I know you said you won’t sell it but in case you do decide to move on then please do get in touch. I would love to have one of these back in my life! Love the video, keep it going! 👍🏻
Great video Taylor, made me miss my R53! That intercooler you had on was 100% a cheap ebay one as that's what mine had, I stuck fins on mine and there was an enclosure on the bonnet to direct airflow, but you're much better off with the AirTec. I am currently in an F56 JCW which I love but it lacks that go-kart feel the R53 had, but I'm gonna stick some coilovers, light 17s etc and hope it gets that back. Minis are such great little cars with so much charm.
I’m biased, but massive love for R53’s - Currently doing up a Factory JCW on my channel at the moment, and it’s been a fair bit of work but it’ll be great when its finished. Also I’ve got a British Racing Green JCW so can’t help but love Taylor’s - Brings a smile to my face when I drive it (and touch wood - I’m Oil leak free at the moment as well :))
Great Video…totally agree that these little cars are totally addictive…I have owned several JCWs …and now a GP2 and a 06 JCW (Canadian Competition Edition)…The GP2 is great but there is little something more about the R53s …every time I consider selling it I take it out for one more drive and I place it back in the garage with its cover and delete the sale posting.
You hit on something I liked the sound of, a Rematch. We don't always need to see new cars all the time, save your business some money and make some content with the cars you have, different match ups. Like can a Mini beat a way more powerful car round a track due to it's superior grip for example, in old races mustangs and mini's raced together and it those races are now legendary. What you could also do if you can find a place to do it is give us power lap times for each of your cars, see if there are any surprises, add in the TDC guys cars too. Free ideas, you can thank me later.
I love to see you properly enjoying the little R53! Of the many cars I've had mine is one that I really wish I'd been able to keep. That noise brings back some great memories of the back roads of Essex
Nice Vid Taylor .... Thank You. Have owned 3 R53 minis in the past, and watching you with yours just reminded me why, and Im in LOVE all over again. So time to find another decent one and enjoy the super charger sound with the sunroof open again. Well done on awesome videos and Thanks Again! Ryan from Cape Town, SA
Best video on the channel since the last Taylor solo video. Love all the videos but your the best of the bunch bud! Your solo videos are second to none. One complaint - would have been go to show how to bleed the coolant.
Taylor thank you very much. Your videos are so enjoyable and fun. I am a massive mini fan, and my R56 was featured on one of your first podcasts ( rear of the year !). Don’t stop !
As an owner of an R53 JCW since 2016 and having put 80k kms on top of the original 77k, I’ve decided to be buried in my Mini the day I kick the bucket, and the supercharger whine will be the outro at my funeral 😂
Taylor, this has to be my absolute favourite of your cars. The whole Nürburgring trip and seeing it at shows has reallyyyy made me want one myself in future 😅 Minge is a superb example and such a fun little car. I’m sure you can forgive it for blowing up from time to time 😉
I had never been a fan of the mini but I recently bought a cheap one for the Nurburgring earlier this year and wanted to hate it but im in love, such a great little car and I have had zero issues. and yes watching yours blow up on the autobahn had me worried 😅 so far its done the Nordschliefe, Nurburg GP circuit, Curborough, Three Sisters and Anglesey.
I had a stock R53 MCS back in 2004 and it was a hoot to drive. It had the stock 16-in wheels which meant the adjustability was insane, turn in under braking into a short turn and the car would slide its butt finishing the turn with the steering wheel straight on. The engine was a bit sticky, wouldn´t rev as effortlessly as i was used by BMW engines, but the performance was fine for me. I miss the days when (new) cars could be simple fun without overcomplicated layers of technology.
Would love to see more videos on your mini, being an R53 owner myself, would especially love to see future mod vids, pulley cam injectors remap etc, and would definitely want to see you take it to the ring, great video!
Hey Taylor, that is a really lovely example, I mean I really love the classic minis, but your one is really nice, and my favourite colour too, pillarless doors, What a noise from that supercharger, love it, good work 👍
Taylor, I feel exactly the same about my 2008 Mini Cooper S, Leland. He is in ailing health right now with a headgasket issue, but he still makes me giggle everytime I drive him. Definitely my forever car!!!!
Great video. Have a daily r53. Some of the parts on it have done over 260k like you on my second engine. First gave up at 201k I have recently swapped out the same coolant expansion tank you had for an oem style as you did. On the tank you took out it was hard to tell if you had pipe connected the overflow blow off. In any case I reckon the cap on these is not up to the job. On caps my top tip is to carry a spare in the glove box.
Very nice, thank you for the video! I've owned a 2005 R50 from new. It now has 155K miles on it and makes considerably more power than it did from the factory, as well as handles and brakes much better and is overall a much nicer car, but then driving and working on it is a hobby of mine. These cars are modern classics and I think will appreciate like older Porsche 911s have.
Proud owner of an R53 - had it 20+ years and still enjoy it! I have lost count of how many coolant tanks I have been through though and damn those JCW seats are ace.... unicorns indeed. I'd love a set of those....
I’ve got an ‘03 R53 with 177k miles that I daily drive and track. Engine has about 80k on it. Too many mods to list but it’s tight with full polyurethane bushings & Bilstein coilovers. Next mods are header, cam & tune. I love this car!!
Had the pleasure of seeing your car at the NEC last year and my god videos don't do justice how good it looks! As for the induction noise, I can relate there. I've a 1970 Cortina 1600e on twin DCOE 40 Webber's and the induction noise is intoxicating 😍
I'm so happy that we got to see the Cooper S again, as it is also one of my favorites! Let's see it again when dyno'ed and the final mods are on it please
Great video Taylor and great little car .... I was wanting to check the year on the car and ran the reg through Gov MOT Checker and it says the Reg number is invalid .... is that plate not your actual plate and just one you use for the videos ??
I have an 2003 R53 Cooper S also, 147,000 miles (bought at 62,000 miles) - this is inspiring to know 33,000 more miles are possible and it still puts a smile on your face 🙌
I really want a fun little hatchback just like this. The supercharger really sells it for me too! I wish I could get my hands on that exact car and how you've built it as, its just how I would go about it. And the colours awesome!
They're such good cars, always looked down my nose at them till my Mrs picked up a n 02 mini one, it wasn't fast, but my god it was so much fun to drive!
I have an R53 since 2020 and, if nothing bad happens, is going to be with me for many, many, many years. Is one of the very last "manual" cars sold by a major brand.
Great to see the Mini, feels like ages since I've seen this car. Picked up a 72k r53 for 425 quid off co-part recently, can't wait to get stuck into it.
I've got one of these, bought for £1250 18 months ago with 163000 miles, it's awesome. It's utterly ruined but I'm slowly improving it like yours and it makes me grin every time I get behind the wheel. Also I have a genuine JCW exhaust 😉
Mine too is on 180,000, just put a 90k engine in and getting the car as pristine as possible. It's just never ending mods on this car I swear there is so much potential with it. + I absolutely adore Taylor the man just makes me smile, new grand tour presenter 🤣🤣
Awesome car and I saw the engine grenade itself on the Nurburgring trip and I’m glad it’s still with you Taylor. No one keeps cars the way you do, you can see the love you have for them. Also, if, no when you do take it back to the Nurburgring set yourself a challenge of beating Misha’s time👍

cant believe how good taylor is talking to cameras, you all are, but considering taylors vertical rise to fame its amazing, love the bloke.
@@kubiyoshi2744 They're nothing alike.
Taylor V2 channel!!! Keep them coming.
Great video, and does anyone else agree Taylor's just wasted,he could go far it's the only time you get a decent car revue, and knows his stuff, and funny with it,on you go taylor
Taylor is the only reason I keep watching AutoAlex videos! full stop!! Period!!
@@LostYogigot half way through yesterdays video and knocked it off, the camera work plus Alex made that video hard work to just watch.
Future classic 100%
Taylor is the best honestly. Easily my fave in the AutoAlex multiverse!
@@BlatantBurnerAccount hahahaha are you crying as your write this, hun? It’ll be ok baba xx
@@BlatantBurnerAccount there he is. Imagine my surprise at your pretty predictable comment. Free fall or not - I enjoy it.
@@BlatantBurnerAccount the term “gay mafia bot” tells everybody reading this everything they need to know about your IQ and mental state. Be safe.
Love seeing nickyminge out the unit! Happy driving they’re great little gocarts and you’ve given it all the goodies hope tuning goes well
Got to see Taylor work on his cars instead just cleaning them lol love you guys
I had one of these. Mucked it up on the highway about 8 years ago and miss it every day. Enjoy the Mini life, Taylor.
The whole Nürburgring trip and seeing it at shows has reallyyyy made me want one myself in future 😅
Minge is a superb example and such a fun little car.
Love this video. We have an R56 Mini Cooper S that I harp on about how great it is.I also vow we will never sell. They are just brilliant!
So great to get an update, and to have a closer look at your Minge! Loving your enthusiasm for this car. Great video. Cheers Fella.
Totally adore Taylor’s videos. So much good knowledge and passion to cars. Other guys are just laughing or screaming, boooooring.
I miss the days when (new) cars could be simple fun without overcomplicated layers of technology.
actually crazy how good the wheel fitment + combo + everything is.
Great video Taylor, I love your passion and approach to life in general. Well done!
Would love to see more videos on your mini, being an R53 owner myself, would especially love to see future mod vids, pulley cam injectors remap etc, and would definitely want to see you take it to the ring, great video!
Maybe a future collab with 1320 Mini.
Agreed . R53 owner here
@@BlatantBurnerAccount No, "we" don't actually. You seemingly do though so tell us what we're missing.
@@BlatantBurnerAccount Please do enlighten me.
Hey Taylor, that is a really lovely example, I mean I really love the classic minis, but your one is really nice, and my favourite colour too, pillarless doors, What a noise from that supercharger, love it, good work 👍
Love the R53 and 56. Had a modded R56 which I sold for a more sensible car. Miss it every day.
Taylor, I feel exactly the same about my 2008 Mini Cooper S, Leland. He is in ailing health right now with a headgasket issue, but he still makes me giggle everytime I drive him. Definitely my forever car!!!!
Absolutley love that Mini. Well done Taylor. Hope you have many more joyful miles with your Mini❤
I bought an R53 JCW in 2003 direct from JC in Sussex. It was one of my all time favourite cars. Always made me smile.
I have worked at the mini factory driving the minis since 2001, I have never seen them seats, they are spot on 👌
Great video. Have a daily r53. Some of the parts on it have done over 260k like you on my second engine. First gave up at 201k
I have recently swapped out the same coolant expansion tank you had for an oem style as you did.
On the tank you took out it was hard to tell if you had pipe connected the overflow blow off. In any case I reckon the cap on these is not up to the job.
On caps my top tip is to carry a spare in the glove box.
Love this car. Got an r53 myself and its still my favourite car 💜 only thing this one is missing is bonnet stripes then it would be perfect 👌🏻
It's a lovely motor Taylor. Had a quick look over her when you had it stored with someone we know in High Cross. Lovely stance that car.
Had the pleasure of seeing your car at the NEC last year and my god videos don't do justice how good it looks! As for the induction noise, I can relate there. I've a 1970 Cortina 1600e on twin DCOE 40 Webber's and the induction noise is intoxicating 😍
Love the R2D2 pop up, perfect choice and made for a decent chuckle, well done. Love the Min-min and that SC sound
Love Taylor’s enthusiasm for this Mini. Keep up the good work fella 🤩
I had a VW golf some 12 years ago and was impressed by level of cornering grip too, with some good quality semi slicks.
I thoroughly agree Alex, it’s absolutely gorgeous and the early supercharged versions are totally awesome. My favourite car. 👍
Taylor you need your own channel! I love watching you on screen your such a natural!
Awesome car and I saw the engine grenade itself on the Nurburgring trip and I’m glad it’s still with you Taylor.
No one keeps cars the way you do, you can see the love you have for them.
Also, if, no when you do take it back to the Nurburgring set yourself a challenge of beating Misha’s time👍
Love this. Your enthusiasm is infectious Taylor (hopefully just your enthusiasm)
I have the F56 LCI II JCW, I LOVE HIM. Only thing I’d change is a manual as mini stopped doing manual jcw’s and a super charger, instead of the turbo.
Love this. Taylor's passion really touches me in places.
Can definitely relate! I own a 2020 Cooper S 60th Anniversary in British Racing Green and it’s my daily joy. What a fantastic lil rocket!
Extremely professional. Top video Taylor. All the best mate 🚙
Youre a natural in front of the camera mate. Thoroughly enjoy watching your content.
Really notice the production quality going up over time, good work guys!
Taylor, you need to do more videos like this (just you on your own), really held yourself well mate! Nice work presenting :-) Love your mini!
