    Excellent coverage on this ship. it is a situational ship imo. My favorite right now too. I have been doing 4xM7A and 2xM6A taking all gimbals off, I'm gonna try the distortion and change my stick to fire the M7A's first then stage 2 the distortion.

  • @TastyChickenLegs
    @TastyChickenLegs 11 месяцев назад +8

    This is exactly the kind of video we need more of. The weapons available provide huge versatility but also much confusion. I have the Corsair and admittedly don’t drive it much because of the slow speeds and mfd lag bug. That being said to describe each loadout using multiple situations is super helpful. I struggle with combining different weapon types and usually default to repeaters because fully grasping how each weapon type interacts and preforms in mixed loadout situations is a daunting task. It would be awesome to see this for the Tana or maybe the Buccaneer. I feel like both of those ships have huge potential with proper loadouts due to multiple hard points in different sizes.
    Your videos are amazing and you have an obvious talent in articulating complex topics in an easy to understand way. Thank you for taking the time to put this tutorial together.

      Wow, thank you so much for the amazingly kind words. That really means a lot to me and really helps to make all the time and effort that went into this video worth it. I love the Tana and the Hornet, which is not a buccaneer but has very similar flexibility to it. I have a couple loadouts that I like in my google doc which I've linked in the description of all my videos. It'll be a while before I get to making new videos for those because I have a backlog of other ships I need to get to first, but I'd be very very happy to answer any questions you might have. I also have a discord and you're very welcome to join that, there's a bunch of super helpful people in there and we love chatting about loadouts :D

      @@SadmanHussein no doubt! I mean, there is the need for a future total rework of the scanning mechanic because currently an Aurora can’t hide behind a mountain-sized asteroid. I bought the Corsair in game and I will not lie, I regretted it instantly... BUT, I forced myself to fly it constantly, refitted it in a gimble laser repeater build, upgraded shields etc and now, after 2 weeks of learning how to fly it, I actually love it. It's a bit wonky, noisy and slow, but it reminds me of what something like a military truck would be. it's basic, but very functional.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  10 месяцев назад

      I'm in a similar boat. When I initially had it in-game I wasn't a fan, but that was because initially it was extremely susceptible to losing control after taking even a bit of damage. They've upped the hp of some components a bit in 3.19.1 which has helped a bunch and now it's much more manageable, and the repeater loadout is decently fun lol

    I've recently bought one in game, having more or less lived in it during free fly. I'd pledge, but its not on sale at present. I tend to use is as a heavily armed transport as part of my mining loop that is well enough equipped and stocked that if I fancy running a few bunkers as a break I can do that. I've not done anythying with the guns as yet, although being a rotten shot I see gimballs staying and maybe a full set of Attritions replacing the cannon. IMO its one of the "lots of) ships for which the right game environment hasn't yet been rolled out, the well armed exploration into areas where you expect to fight rather than survey. My head says "klingon" as opposed to "Federation" as a concept. Very much enjoyed the video.

    Fantastic review as always pal. The Corsair is most definitely a glass cannon but if it was more durable and agile (like a lot of people want) it would be a massively overpowered ship. If you run it solo you have to pick your battles and the load out to suit. Having mates on the turrets can be a big help in dealing with fast moving light fighters. CIG definitely need to sort out the spawn rate of combat service beacons to be the same as bounty missions. I bet there are loads of players who don’t even know they exist! They offer so much more variety in what ships you fight and sometimes you get ai helping you out too, plus the added bonus of always being in deep space. They could nerf the rewards for them into the ground for all I care if it meant they spawned consistently.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much! And I absolutely agree with you on all points. I'm ok with the current balance of the Corsair. Where it currently stands, I think it's similar to the Connie but each ship has its own strengths and weaknesses. With the sheer firepower and flexibility of the ship (4 beds, living area, cargo hold), it needs to have some considerable penalties to help balance it out. People need to remember it's not intended to be a combat ship, despite its ludicrous pilot dps. We just use it as one because exploration gameplay doesn't exist yet.

    I run a Corsair with 4 size 5 deadbolt ballistics and gimballed lasers on the wings. The lasers on the wing are great for smaller more maneuverable targets and the deadbolts, while only having 70 shots, can kill a reclaimer in only about 7-8 rounds from each gun, giving me a less than 30 second kill and 7 kills before reloading.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад

      Nice! Yeah I'd do something like that too if I didn't mind the different weapon speeds. Having energy weapons on only the wing hard points let's you still run the capacitor to shields since the massive capacitor means those guns will have a billion shots before needing to recharge

  • @epicmarksman7257
    @epicmarksman7257 11 месяцев назад +3

    Before i got my retaliator bomber, the corsair is my go to EXPLORATION ship for group ert. I go with full fixed ballistic gatling build which can easily complete the bounty. The downside are the thrusters hp issues which can be quite annoying as missile are harder to flare off now and the frequent restock. But nonetheless corsair is still a pretty solid exploration ship for bounty hunting.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад +2

      I totally agree, it's got massive firepower so it can definitely do ERTs, you just have to be wary of how aggressive the AI on the server is and how dangerous the wingmen are to ensure you don't accidentally get yourself into a rough situation because once your shields go down your hull drops pretty darn fast

    Nice vid. very thorough. Good stuff.
    HRTs and VHRTs having reclaimers really makes having a Corsair or a Connie almost required now. Even in a Harbinger unloading all missiles and with pretty good hard-point DPS, it takes time and the smaller supports can do some damage. An Inferno does better, but still not that fast and has to reload more.
    I've been running a fully ballistic Corsair, and it just RIPS the reclaimers to shreds. In atmo on MT or Hurston, getting out is slow and difficult, so I've set up shop in Arc corp going forward. Crusader is ok, but the asteroid battles around Yela are a bit sketch. I haven't tried ballistic cannons, but for sure on the S4 hard points, and maybe a split load could could be interesting. I'll give it a try.
    I'm not really a fan of the laser repeaters here, and mixed distortion might be ok, but the ballistics are so damn fast, it is hard to give them up.

    @TheGreatScott 11 месяцев назад +2

    IMHO the Constellation probably is the better of the two overall. However, the feels of the Corsair drastically makes up for the benefits of bug free flying and the tankiness of the Connie over the Corsair.
    COMBAT BEACONS are one of the many shard/server shared missions. So if they appear and somebody else gets them first...
    ...on top of this the lag issue can mean you only see them appear on screen as offers after they have already cycled through your actual list, and the reverse too.
    Best bets for Combat Beacons: Be in planetary orbit, swopping to the moons, and watch your actual Contract List (with decent rep). If you are only seeing Lights, get on them and cycle through them no matter the paltry sums. But if you continue only seeing Lights, hop server. Mediums often have nearly the same payout as the Hard's, and Hards can sometimes have the 300k Critical payouts with lower HP enemies overall.
    First prize is clearing ones over the defence, and if you get a clearing mission, blast through the pack a few times to scatter them....and you will often get a clearance with 0-2 kills! BOOOM 300k(ish)

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад +1

      I totally agree about liking the Connie more overall, but I think it comes down to a pretty personal decision, which I think is a great thing. As for the beacons, I knew about the shared resource aspect, I just wish they should make the experience better because the current one isn't it IMO. You shouldn't have to chase after gameplay that runs away from you. And as far as the tips for the higher payout ones ty!! I have had them complete quickly a couple times and didn't realize why it was happening. If I get beacons ever I'll definitely try that out

    It's so funny you made this video. I have literally pledged a Corsair, FOUR times. I've melted it for this and that but keep coning back to it as changes are made. I really want to like it. For those getting hit by missiles, I suggest you set your decoy burst to 5 for the Corsair. It has a larger EM and Cross section signature than the Constellations.
    I spent last night testing between my 4th pledged Corsair and an in game purchased Aquila. I also have a 600i and Carrack but for medium sized daily dtivers, these two compete head to head. If you're using the cannon loadout, I suggest engaging smaller, faster targets using staggered mode.
    Also, you can conserve a lot of boost by not using your main thrusters, standing in place and just allocating boost to your maneuvering thrusters. This will help you keep nose on target much better and longer.
    I haven't even watched your video yet but rest assure, im looking forward to it. I've compared these two platforms tirelessly.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I agree with everything you said. The thing about missiles that I've found is that they're really server dependent. On faster servers a single decoy often works for me (or my default which is a burst size of 2). On slower servers almost nothing works and the missile follows me forever and usually hits me lol. Personally I prefer the constellation but I don't fault anyone for picking one over the other. They're pretty well matched imo

    • @Kakeyoro
      @Kakeyoro 11 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome video, man. Absolutely. Thanks for this. So one thing I failed to mention was that I too prefer the Constellation series for various reasons. The Corsair is a newer ship so it feels more polished. In terms of a daily, I'm starting to lean back to my Aquila I once had. For true exploration, I have a Carrack and 600i for that.
      There's a few things you reminded me of that definitely standout a LOT for a daily. The low inventory capacity is a huge issue with bunkers and component transport. For me, visibility is just so much better in the Constellation. The (lore) fit and finish of the Constellation ships are also a lot better (please fix our mess hall tables, mkay?)
      The Aquila has a slightly higher top speed and Constellation thruster capacitors are bigger. I think I'll just melt my Corsair to the Aquila and in-game buy a Corsair if I have the itch. I'm wondering if I'll miss the 2 additional size 4 hard points as well as the all around flexibility.

    Trick to service beacons. There seems to be an unwritten rep to them. Whenever you see one pop up on your mission offerings, fly to that location first then accept. Keep doing this 5-10 times whenever they pop up, and after that you'll be seeing them everywhere. It's almost annoying how often they pop up on the banner. This has worked for me since last year, so I'd say it's fairly reliable. You just have to take every beacon you see, regardless of how far away it is. Just make sure not to accept it until you're in the vicinity. Otherwise the ship you're trying to defend will blow up bf you get there, failing the beacon.
    I run into trouble with Critical Threat service beacons as the Idris can be a bit much for the Corsair. Definitely helps to have a friend with a Retaliator lurking around. With a 350k payout, it's worth sharing the loot. The trick to critical threat beacons is you need to be prepared to disengage your target to focus fire on the ships engaging with your ally. This has been difficult with the Corsair. The Scorpius used to handle it well until they made the AI a bit more intelligent, lol.
    FYI: Whenever I successfully complete a beacon, I always use left bracket to give it a positive rating. Idk if this affects anything with rep, but I do it just for good measure. Seems to work out.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks so much for taking the time to share all that! I have been successful in getting beacons to show up if i chase after them, I'm just annoyed that the reputation is so busted with it so I haven't done that lol. I finally sucked it up and did it and noticed that (like in previous patches) sometimes they'll show my beacon rep as a full 5 stars and sometimes less, there doesn't seem to be a good rhyme or reason to it. One welcome change I did notice is that they seem to let you quantum away from beacons now without failing them, so you should be able to re-arm in the case of solo-ing with a retaliator. I haven't ever successfully completed a critical threat yet because I kept failing before taking out the idris but now that i can re-arm it might be worth trying it with a tali lol

    So… for pilot to control systems, have copilot jump into station first and then get in the pilots seat. That will give you full control of ship systems and copilot retains possible mode making that remote turret even more useful. My preferred load out is 4 size four laser repeaters and 2 size three ballistic Gatling. This allows for a good variety and balance. The ballistics I save for hurricanes and smaller. Missiles are up to you. Size ones probably most useful but I like the size two ones that explode into several small rockets. That’s because it looks cool. Lastly, more power to forward shields!

    On a serious note, I own a Corsair, and have recently bought a Connie Andromeda ingame (I previously flew a Taurus, before the Corsair was released). The moment I sat back in a Connie cockpit and took off I fell back in love with the ship. It just felt _better_ than the Corsair, even though I did miss the pair of S5 guns. Haha yeah so two things are helping with that. The most important is I'm using joysticks which let you just hold the stick at a certain amount of deflection to keep smooth rotation. I love my Corsair, but the Thruster issue is very annoying, although it got a little bit better in 19.1.
    Regarding the loadout. I played most of the time with 4xOmnisky 15 but switched them recently to 4xAD5Bs for ERTs. On the Wings, i kept actually the 2 stock gimbaled Laser Cannons. I switch between Auto Aim and fixed, for smaller, faster targets, especially the Hurricanes. You have to get used to it with the 2 target markers, but i like to have at least 2 weapons with unlimited ammo and i think the ammo pool of the AD4Bs is to small to be worth mounting. The AD5B ammo gets ofc used mainly on the Hammerhead but also on Valkyries and when i have a good spot to also hit the other targets.
    For VHRTs i bought myself a Sentinel ingame as the turnrate of the Corsair can be really annoying with the faster targets in those missions. The Reclaimers take a little bit longer with the Sentinel, but i also like that i have to practice my flight skils with the way lower Shield HP of the Sentinel against the Corsair.

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah the sentinel is my fav ship for actual VHRT combat now, where you can maneuver around rather than just being the big whale trying to aim at the enemies.
      I also considered keeping the size 4s as laser weapons and I think you totally could do that to help you with aiming at the smaller targets. And thanks to he massive capacitor of the Corsair you could still just keep you capacitor to shields since those size 4 hard points will have a billion shots

    What are your thoughts on gimballed ballistic gatlings?

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  6 месяцев назад +1

      so my personal thought is that I hate gimballed weapons that shoot projectiles at 700m/s, which is the speed that AD-series gatlings fire their projectiles at. I feel like the guns don't track fast enough to help account for the fact that the bullets are traveling slow. So everything just ends up taking time. Moving my corsair to the right position takes a second, then the gimbals tracking takes a second, and then the bullets getting to the enemy takes another 1-2 seconds. It hasn't done well for me. But that's with my flight style and aiming ability. Perhaps gimbals works better for you. I don't like to poo-poo people's use of gimbals because it is a *really* personal choice. The best thing I can suggest is spend an hour doing combat with and without gimbals and measure how many targets you killed for each hour. You might surprise yourself.
      Also, one thing worth keeping in mind is that S5 weapons do a HUGE amount more damage than S4. So anytime S5s are involved, I strongly strongly prefer using the S5 gun.

  • @PragmaticTornado
    @PragmaticTornado 8 месяцев назад +1

    Having used both the Corsair and the 600i in AC Pirate Swarm, I much prefer the 600i for PvE combat. I know they're not the same size, nor the same price, but as far as handling and pilot dps they're not too far off eachother.
    Corsair has more dps, but is harder to get on target, both in atmo and in space. 600i comes stock with fixed S5's, which work really well with some practice, and do brutal damage. It's also much, much tankier, with regards to hull hp (and twice as much shields). I can easily tank a Hammerhead with just some basic strafe maneuvers. With the Corsair I have to joust, making the kill take much longer. Same with the Idris; I'm never worried in the 600i because I can take quite a few hits - can even take a railgun hit to the nose.
    Reason I'm probably keeping the Corsair, is because the interior is expertly crafted, in stark contrast to the 600i which only has an excellent Captains quarters. With the 600i rework, I may end up melting the Corsair unless it gets a significant hull buff. They both do about the same things in theory, just differently.
    Obviously, none of this applies to PvP, where both are loot pinatas for the Light Fighter Mafia.

    • @WingZeroType

      Totally agreed. I prefer the 600i because I like the cockpit view more than in the Corsair, and I really don't like the flimsiness of the corsair hull. is 4 Deadbolt IVs+3 deaddbolt IIIs viable? all gimballed.
    also I think they buffed out the corsair's HP even more... I took *8* missile hits and no major torque imbalance

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  3 месяца назад

      It's totally viable, but I'd strongly recommend giving the 4x AD5Bs a shot. They've buffed AD-series gatlings a LOT since this video was made and they greatly outshine deadbolts imo. Their weapon spray was reduced significantly so that a lot more of your bullets will hit your target, meaning that you'll land most of your dps while also having roughly 2x the ammo as the deadbolt equivalent.
      As far as the fixed vs gimballed part of that question, it depends a bit on your skill level i'd say. I think the gimbals help a bit with the aiming but since the cannon projectile speed is so slow you still end up needing to do a lot of the heavy lifting with your own piloting to help the gimbals track well enough. So I personally prefer the fixed over gimballed cannons pretty much any day of the week, but if it works for you... well then it works for you.
      p.s. sorry for the 1 month delayed response... life got crazy so i fell really far behind on YT comments :)

    would this be better or worse than an aegis vanguard ship

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  9 месяцев назад +1

      It's different... The vanguard will be much much faster and more agile, and a significantly more responsive ship to fly. But it's going to have lower dps than the Corsair. So you can kind of think of it like do you want somewhat agile and good firepower, or do you want REALLY SLOW and CRAZY firepower. Mind you, the crazy firepower is limited by the maneuverability of the ship in some cases. Personally, I use both... just kind of depends on what kind of gameplay I'm looking for.

    Will probably have to do an update to this video, this now apparently gimbals have no reason not to be used. Basically heard Size 5 Gimbals can use Size 5 weapons. So there's no point in trade offs it seems. hope I'm wrong

    • @WingZeroType
      @WingZeroType  21 день назад

      you're right, but gimbals are also pretty much useless now lol. You don't get auto-gimbal anymore as a pilot, so you can just sort of aim your guns slightly off center while piloting in the precision targeting mode if you change your gimbal modes. I haven't found a use for it yet, so even though you have gimbals they're basically just for show.
