I've always like the Detroit. Single floor living space, separate bedroom, more storage in the kitchen, big bathroom with the 36" shower. You could put in a combo w/d and have a clothes rod all the way across. Or cabinets. Love the blue color outside!
I LOVE that kitchen! I enjoy cooking and find the tiny kitchens way too small, this one is perfect. The only change I would make is get the toilet out of the flow of traffic, maybe swap spaces with the hot water heater.
This channel has rapidly become our absolute favorite!! Great tiny home ideas, always so entertaining with Randy and Amanda giving us excellent information and so funny!!...thank you and keep up the great work!!
I learned from a long-term remodeler that using quarter turn knobs for water is the best. The regular ones leak, and he was right, because I had that problem with my washer line.
@@american_woman Thank you. I've paid attention over the years from what I have learned from very experienced people. I don't know everything, and I ask a lot of questions. Sometimes from several people until it makes sense. These boxes ITH makes are not high quality and its sad.
My concern with container homes is that they were originally built to be stacked on freighters to travel across the open seas. What I have been told is the container manufacturers sprayed hazardous materials along the floor so if waves crashed over the side of the freighter the sea water could not permeate into the container floor and thus damage whatever items were being shipped. With that said, did ITH strip out the floor to remover those hazardous materials?
Don't hold your breath. These come from China, and anyone with two brain cells will realize lot of the materials they use are highly toxic. Besides that, their steel is not the high standards like US Steel is. So be prepared for lots of rust!
I love container homes, but I prefer the Eurasian living container models because they are wider. 3m or 10' is simply better for living than 8'. Those 2' or 60cm make all the difference. I used to have an office in a living container and it was great. You could heat that up with a lighter. It had double bunk beds on each side, that is impossible in an 8'.
10x40 containers cost more than 8x40s, and the cost of building materials and labor for the larger containers would be noticeably higher also, making the overall price of the 10x40 home significantly more. Most Tiny Home buyers are couples and singles who have no need for two bunk beds. Anything over 8.5' wide requires purchasing a government permit to move it on public roads, and in some places you'll need to hire a driver with a commercial license to move it. Which size is "better" depends entirely on the needs and wants of the buyers. Some people would be just fine with an 8x40, and some wouldn't. To each his/her own.
Beautiful - I love container homes! I've seen a DIYer use transom windows with a pulley system (so you can open/close the window if you want privacy) above the doors on the interior walls to help with airflow when doors are closed. The sprinkler system is a great touch!
I seriously like the container homes. A bay window, or two, will really open up that interior and a wrap around, screened, deck could double the living space. You'd never have to worry about termites or having to put on a new roof again. Properly anchored and secured they can easily weather a hurricane. A container home is definitely on my short list for a retirement home.
If I chose an 8x40 high cube container home, I would want the inside design like the one Randy's son designed with the huge bathroom and full size shower. ❤ God bless ITH! ❤🙏❤️
Would love to see this with the German style "rolladen" rolling shutters I saw all over the place there, and reinforced window frames, to really drive home the toughness of these little units. They help with energy efficiency, too, as well as general security
Maybe my favorite model. I think it's the best designed container home out there. Too many builders want to open the whole side with windows eliminating too much wall space, in my opinion. I love this design. The ONLY thing I wish was different would be for the toilet not to show when you look straight down the container to the bedroom. I'm guessing that's just a space issue and that there's no way to turn it so it's not sticking out. Still, my favorite container home design by far.
I agree about the window ratio. Most Tiny Homes come with all the windows when I would prefer more solid walls for art & stuff. I guess it comes down to personal aesthetics.
we saw one at your community, when we came over, but did not get to tour one yet, but this looks nice, we toured several of your tiny homes while we were there and posted it we thought they were built well
Now this is what is for me and my family. Yes your sake home is so needed for many people like seniors that can’t move around that much. Or young people needing a place to sleep etc. and for the homeless to feel safe at night. Cities need to pick these up stat. And get those homes But for so many that want a forever home we need this Space. Thank you.
Love it but I agree with some others--bathroom configuration needs to be rethought and the tv wall needs need to on the side with the open door so you can have a sofa on the closed side of the sliding glass door. How about moving the kitchen pantry shelves and have the bathroom door there so that all of the bathroom area is to the left and closed off. I hate walking through a bathroom.
@@american_woman His older models were better. But he doesn't build them anymore. Its all these quick builds, slap them together, get them out the door, collect the dough, no time to customize. He's gone cheap and in the end, it will hurt him. No matter what, I wouldn't buy a container home, not unless it was properly insulated, designed, and all the toxins were removed. I absolutely love container homes. This one looks great. Just have to figure out how to get over the 400sqft minimum square footage for my area to make that a primary residence. Maybe add an Add-a-box to the side! ;)
I learned something in this video. Condensation in container homes, something to watch out for. It's like van vehicles homes on wheels. They get that condensation living in them. I really like the goose neck faucet at the corner not in the center of the sink area. That gives more room to wash ur pots without hitting the faucet. 👍🏾👏🏾 What about not waking off the rooms up to the ceiling? Frame the side but leave out the top part of the wall. Then there's enough air flowing through all the rooms? Fan at I end mini split at the other end? 🤔
A closet in the BR would be nice. Maybe you can take some of the bathroom to give the BR more space. Although I guess it would be hard to do if sized for a W/D and shower. You'd have room to have a little over in there too!. Can this go on any of the properties at ITH? Not sure what their size limit is for the Buffalo Creek property.
