  • Inside A $40,000 Container Home
This fall, my wife & I moved into our fully finished out shipping container tiny home. This build was roughly ~$40,000 & has everything we need to slowly start living simply on our 12 acres of land in East Texas. Welcome to Lucky Star Acres.

My husband and I are trying to build out of two shipping containers. It's a very hard slow process, when you don't really have the funds. But when you do have the funds the time is not there. So it a long haul for us but we are going to do it. It's our dream. And God is helping us along the way. And we love it.

I’ve been saving all summer and now I’m halfway to realizing a couple of dreams/goals I’ve had in general for years purchasing my very own one time use, 40ft HC container. Plan on plugging away at it bit by bit as funds will allow. It’s been 25 years since I’ve owned my own space and I can’t wait to enjoy a little more privacy/independence and control over my life and personal space again. It’s been a long time coming. So frikkin excited to enjoy a little bit of peace of mind. I wish I could personally thank the entire community for continuing to inspire both my dream and inspirational ideas in general. It was just the gentle push and encouragement I needed to finally get serious about making it actually happen. God bless you all ❤

Ports warehouse towers of containers. Many containers are used 1 times and then they are sold . But they can be there from a long time. You are reusing this one less being warehoused . It saves on building materials since the box is already done. Only interior may need some building. You saved again. Undoubtedly you bought a rain water and storm proof model. If not I bet you have applied something for that. Hope fully you can weather storms and twisters. Stick house likely will not survive F3-4. Your windows or doors that are not on the ends. So yea you made a good choice and for those with who think you have not saved the environment give them a sheet comparing the stick built house then the container house. It isn’t traditional and some folks can’t see themselves living there so they have a lot of criticism.
Oh forgot about fires and your home is likely far well when there is a forest fire. Congrats on your home

Good for y'all Your home is great. I get it about wanting simple, peaceful, & quiet. I wonder if y'all couldn't drill a well. You didn't talk about your utilities, only the TV ;-) I sure don't get how someone could say a Container build w/b unsustainable. As a country we get s--t tons of them from all of the incoming shipments from China. We've gotta do something with them, right? Then the rest of the things are choices one makes with each home, regardless what the structure is made out of. I doubt your TVs take a whole lot of juice. When I got my TV it had a sticker on it saying they estimated the cost to run it was like $11 for a whole year. So if I happen to use it twice as much as they figure it'd cost me a whopping $22 for a whole freaking year. LOL!!!! Maybe solar could actually work for you.
