For 80K, I would be *extremely* thankful to just have a home and not have a ton of mortgage debt.
You managed to buy a house for hundreds of thousands of dollars less than what everyone else around you has paid.
and now because you built the house, you're also going to save thousands of dollars on future home maintenance because you know how to repair it.
    Good on you!
You're an example for everyone, in my opinion!

I'm certainly happy with the final cost. It came out to more than I guesstimated early on, but I'm still happy and you're right: it was within the budget of my savings and thus I didn't have to take out a mortgage that would've added $150,000 extra on top or more?

Ultimately, you have saved yourself thousands over the life of your home by doing the work yourself. Not only will you be able to repair/maintain the property, but also you building this for yourself you probably have a higher quality build. Having it built by a company you have no control over the quality of the work. By building it for yourself I'm certain that you took the time to do things right and not cut corners to hit some kind of deadline. Having that kind of security in knowing things were done right is absolutely priceless!

I may have missed some aspects that seemed to be missing in your breakdown. In Australia, all container homes must be on a full concrete pad. They must also be fully insulated as shipping containers are freezing in winter and hot in summer. Connection to water, electricity, gas, and sewage must be carried out by licensed trades people. All plans must be submitted to the shire council. There must also be hardwired smoke alarms, exhaust fans in the bathroom and kitchen, and any other safety requirements met in the area you want to place the structure.

Yeah great thank you so much for the information its absolutely crucial on how we want to start our first container build and will help us a lot on our journey . Take care I’ll be watching. Can’t wait to watch what you make next ? Hope it’s a chicken coop or easy just buying one ? Or the next best thing all the bits of wood left over from the build could also build you a coop ? Take care of those bears ? We are off to South Africa so we’ll definitely have other guests trying to visit our chicken coop 😅who knows it could be naughty monkeys they love to get into the house and just rob you blind ? 😊. Good luck thanks again and I’ll be waiting for the next adventure.👍🏼✝️✌🏻

@@thinkoutsidethecontainer You won’t have any problems. Your house will be standing in 100 years without those problems. I’m wondering about a container without anything done to it if I would have moisture problems if I use it for storage.

Great video, I wish I lived somewhere that would facilitate building a house on this type of foundation, unfortunately with the weather we have in the northern Midwest we are too cold for this. My wife and I are looking at building a steel post frame shop/house on a geothermal slab. Looking forward to possibly creating a RUclips series on it.
Again, love the breakdown on costs!

Great video‼️I bought a 4 bedroom cement house in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷. Treated the cement roof for leaks...removed all wood & replaced to aluminum doors & window shutters. Kitchen cabinets in PVC. I wish I could see‼️Fresh paint, house looks NEW. 4 bedroom, kitchen, living room, balcony, carport, 1 bathroom. Bought at 20k from a Reverse Mortgage company. GOD IS GOOD‼️

two story container boxes just snowballs cost. 🤮 seen plenty of guys that go way over budget because of that.

@@lionelhowell4972 I got the back staircase rails from Menards. I did like a lot of the prices I saw on Menards but the problem is they are located so far from me that shipping costs often made it not cost effective. I'm sure there are wholesale sources for materials that professional builders use that even beat Home Depot bit sometimes they require business licenses etc

@@thinkoutsidethecontainer that was my other assumption that maybe there was one, but just too far away adding in fuel cost. here in MN, they have 2 stores that are called Habitat for Humanity Re-use centers that sell everything for homes. new and used materials donated by remodelers, and construction companies from lumber to appliances at unbelievable prices that cannot be beaten anywhere. I know it is irrelevant to your build, but just a thought.. if others are reading your posts they should always look for alternative inventory in other places also like you did to keep costs down even more..
