After popping two 6.4 engines in 2 years fully deleted and never used it to tow. I swapped a P pumped 24 valve Cummins in it in a week. My total cost was around $3,500 a local shop quoted me $26,000 to do the swap and said it will take 2 months. I did everything myself with the cab on and just used DCS adapter plate and flex plate and there plug and play harness everything else I made and installed myself. I sold that truck to a buddies son and he uses it in the oil fields.
@POV Adventures Yeah $3,500 wasn't bad. Everytime my engine went it was a cracked piston. First engine was cracked #2 piston 2nd engine was cracked number 8 piston. The second engine went while I was going down the highway with cruise control at 70mph. I pulled the engine and pulled it apart and I sold everything except the cracked piston. I sold the hpfp for $500 the bare block for $1000 I sold each piston and rod for $60.00 each on eBay crank for $900 heads for $800 turbos for $600 and the injectors for $75.00 each on eBay. It pretty much paid for everything. The swap was simple especially on the automatic trucks. The only modification I had to do was move the transmission brace back 2 inches and schirten the drive shaft. I used all the 6.4 stuff intercooler pipes I made lower and upper coolant hoses used the Ford harness and intercooler Cummins mechanical fan I made the AC and alternator brackets so I could use the 6.4 stuff and my buddy makes the motor mounts in his shop so they cost me $100its a very simple swap for the mechanically inclined person. I've done a few after that. I can do one of these swaps in about 4 days from start to finish. The hardest part is the drive by wire you have to modify to work with a cable because you have to use the Ford drive by wire pedal since it communicates with the throttle position and all that jazz and if it's not done right the truck won't shift properly. The main thing with the 2008-2010 truck is everything works off the tach/rpm's so you have to have perfect cam and crank position sensor communication if not then it goes crazy like the AC won't work alternator won't charge etc. The can bus system has to be bypassed correctly because if not it lockes the ECU down and you won't even send a signal to the starter it's all controlled from inside that ecu not like the 6.0 trucks. The 6.4 harness can be moddified and used by itself with a 12 valve Cummins but if you use the 24v Cummins you have to use the Dodge and Ford harness .
@POV Adventures No problem. Here in fort Worth there are alot of cummins swapped 6.4 and 6.0 trucks. There are a few Cummins swapped 7.3 trucks around here but you have to modify the cross member. My buddy looks for blown 6.4 trucks and swaps them sells them and so on. He has a really nice 2010 f450 we swapped a 6.7 Cummins in it and it is a beast.
Was literally just looking into buying a blown 6.4 and putting a 5.9 in as a project. All of a sudden this pops up on the front page! Subscribed for sure!
That is indeed the stock position for a powerstroke turbo. Also, when reassembling, make sure the water pump is properly installed in the glovebox as per Ford TSB 239B.
Dont forget about TSB 239B revision a. Stating that the coolant bypass hose is to be routed to the cigarette lighter in the center console for optimum coolant temperature.

Man, I wish I had the ability to buy auction vehicles and flip them like you! I need a new truck for myself as I'm moving, it's my dream to fix something up nice and drive it. Thanks for the content, I love it!
I have an 04 6.0 250 and I love it. It was beat up, not maintained and not even cared for. It was like someone bough her, knew enough to tune it and then rode it hard and dry. For the past two years she has been in and out of the shop every two weeks like clock work. From her front end suspension, carrier bearing, fuel injectors, tires, sway bars ,diff. cover, fuel pump, and plethora of other things I believe this will be the first time she will not be seeing the garage. She has no EGR, but the computer was replaced and the default tune is loaded. So the Engine light does come on. But I love her. I am always open to suggestions on how to make her run just a bit better and anything I can do to prolong her life. Love your channel and you have the same witty attitude I have. Keep up the great work.

Texting with your mom and voila, a new video. I told her I had to go as I love watching these videos on my TV. Never disappointed!! Love the scenes in between. The cow is always fun. Cannot wait to see your continuing saga of putting the new engine in. Thanks for showing your fb page which I LIKED. Will put in for my hat too. Keep em coming and love your humor!!
At first I wasn't really sure about this channel. I thought it was going to be another guy always taking about his diesel truck and rolling coal. But it wasn't and this channel is rapidly becoming one of my favourite on RUclips. Keep it coming.

Just found your channel, enjoyed the video, subscribed! You seem like the "good Ole boy" type that I like to hang out with. Keep em coming and I'll keep watching.
Hi Westen, great channel! My Grandfather owned a heavy equipment construction business and was the best diesel mechanic I knew. God rest his soul. He would have loved your channel.
Your right about the 2010 great body style. We have a 10 F-150 and I love the way the grill comes up with the hood. Also have a 14 F-350 4x4 with the 6.7 love it. Have fun with the build.
Yea the 6.4 is complete trash if you are going to get a diesel Ford get a 6.9, 7.3, 6.7, or even a later generation 6.0 with a better oil cooler that won’t clog
Wrong! The tacked on emissions system ruined these great engines, over fueling the rear 2 cylinders to regen the flippin' system. Egr system fouled up. Over fueling washed the rings down and flooded the engine with fuel instead of lube oil. Delete this crap before it wrecks the engine. Mine? 296,000 miles with a tuner and it rips.
All the ford guys going to try and back up the 6.0 and 6.4 “nah man their great all you had to do to them was an EGR delete, DEF delete, head studs, upgraded head gasket, get a tune, convert the 6.4 to single turbo. Yeah sure and do any of that and their goes your warranty on your 50k+ Truck that’s supposed to last 200k+ from the factory.
I laughed so hard at bills video. My father in law bought a 160k 6.4 for 24k about 2 years ago because i bought my lbz. Im just waiting for it to break.
New sub here from Cache valley, UT. Love the video content and style! Looking forward to seeing the cummins get built into this F chassis. Good stuff man! I know a guy here in UT that took a 08 F450 dually similar as you with blown motor, installed a 6.7 cummins with a 6000 series Allison tranny. Super cool truck. He'd pull up to the lumber yard in the morning and you could here the cummins rumbin underneath the hood of the sweet looking F450. Only prob was the 08 F450 only came with 4:88's. He would seriously top out at 70mph! Anyway, good luck on the project!
I have a 2008 6.4 with a 270+ tune on it right now which I love the additional power and can spin the tires and I do have the truck deleted as well, but after seeing what you said, I’m dropping my tune down big time!!!!
Charles Cummings Cylinders Fill with diesel and bend rods, head gasket failure, Catostrophic engine failure. You can’t machine the blocks , so you need to basically buy a new engine anytime you need any kind of machine work. Better off buying a deleted 6.0 or buy a 6.7
From what I've learned over the years of being a self taught mechanic, 3v 5.4, and 6.4 powerstroke, are great up until they're not, personally own a 04 and 06 5.4, they're great trucks, the only issue being they're 5.4's the 06 started ticking at about 155k, sitting at 200k and hasn't gotten any worse, than when it started, no loss of power either, the 04, 121k, and started about 500 miles ago, pretty sure it's got a couple thousand miles left until I have a hole through my roof on the plusbside the benefits over a reliable 2v 5.4, I get more power, yknow, pretty sure the 3v 5.4 is the engine embodiment of Jeremy Clarkson the more I think about it
Swap it out with a old 7.3 motor. I did my 2012 after having so much trouble with the 6.7 motor. I found a old shop truck pulled the motor and sold the truck for scrap. I had the engine rebuilt and change all the computers over and it was worth it.
Nice find on the truck. The 6.4 can be problematic yes, but like you said, light tune and get rid of the emissions, and it will be a strong engine. I have an 08 and it has been pretty well too me and im still stock, i do not tow nor pull with the truck, and i maintain my truck on the regular. so, I think that is what has saved mine from all of the issues that have plauged this engine. Looking forward to the build and would like to get with you on maybe some parts for my truck if you are not planning on using them. Ill PM you either youtube or Facebook. Thanks Westen.
I am happy that yours has been so dependable. My company had purchased 3 of them brand new. Two failed before 100k miles. Ford wanted $21,000.00 for a new engine. Sold the third while it was still running so not sure what happened to it. We run a pretty strict maintenance schedule so the failures were not due to neglect.
Jak Azz I’m in the same boat man, I have a 2008 f250 with a little over 180k. Only thing I’ve ever had to have done to it were get some radiator hoses replaced and the cab bushings which got replaced last week. The 6.4 is a phenomenal engine, if you take care of it
That was commical what about the truck having catastrophic failures....It's just the way you approached. You're just a good old boy. Funny, serious professional, all in one package. Very knowledgeable, too.
I have a 6.4 and did all the deletes and upgraded the low pressure fuel pump. So far it runs great. But I do baby it so I think that helps but after watching this I want to put a Cummins in it. So I'm going to be following you on your adventure. I'm disabled so I will have to find someone to help me do it when it comes time. Keep up the great work. Oh and I do were hats .
Stumbled on your channel and immediately subscribed. Great fun watching you, and you always make me laugh. Anytime I need a little lift, watching Westen is a sure Pick Me Up.
Ford has a reputation for the motor typical having issues, there still reliable but once the got to the 6.7L I’ve found out the the 6.7L ended up being the most reliable engine and from my experience it’ll reach 500,000 miles easily.
@@MichaelF1 The 7.3 powerstroke was as good as the IDI. Only major problem it has was cavitation, but that wasn't an issue till 300-400k miles usually.
Good on ya for swapping an engine in that matches the looks of this truck, like the dealer tech said about the last Ford you did "only thing I don't like is that blue oval on the grill" 😂

I’m glad to see your still so humble.
I knew it didnt run as soon as you said 6.4 Powerstroke.
The 6.4 is a phenomenal engine, if you take care of it
I am not a ford guy but that generation of 3/4 tons look so good.
I’m a dodge/ram guy, but every time I see one on the lot I just have to stare
That’s a 1 ton
Make the Ford Great again.. with a Cummins!
Oh and I do were hats .
yeah 6.4 ford free is to much to pay brother is on 3rd engine at 120k
Randomly found your channel looking up some info on some trucks. It was funny enough I stuck around lol
Subbed, first time viewer, your pretty comical to watch thanks!
Stumbled on your channel and immediately subscribed. Great fun watching you, and you always make me laugh. Anytime I need a little lift, watching Westen is a sure Pick Me Up.
You are quickly becoming one of my favorite content creators. Keep up the interesting videos! Subscribed.
Ford couldn't keep mine running when it was under warranty. LOL!
How to fix a 6.0L, coolant filter, egr delete, new oil cooler.

I got 330,000 on mine and it's been fine...
Thomas Daugherty they are really good motors if you delete and tune
Just found your page and already started binge watching great stuff
I remember when you only had 1.4k subscribers. You are definitely doing something right brother. Keep it up and Beyonce just might call. Lol
I put a 3.9 in a Ford Ranger 4x4. Wish I had that truck back! Can't wait to follow the project.
Twisted steel and sex appeal 😂 very excited about the new build! Keep up the good work brother 🇺🇸
I cant say I'm thrilled about a Ford since I'm a Chevy guy, but I'm looking forward to the build anyways! 😋
I think it's a good idea to add a Cummins to a Ford good going
Ford has a reputation for the motor typical having issues, there still reliable but once the got to the 6.7L I’ve found out the the 6.7L ended up being the most reliable engine and from my experience it’ll reach 500,000 miles easily.
Love how fast this channel is blowing up. Westin never gets old.
yeah, the 6.4 was a throw away engine. the 6.7 is good though
unless its an early 6.7, then the fuel pump is a time bomb that will grenade and take out the injectors.
So every powerstroke, post IDI, is trash?
Good to know.
Dude been waitin for the hat giveaway I watch every video keep waitin on that call from Beyoncé

Love how optimistic you are about these projects. I would be very skeptical about them all the way up to the time we turn the key.
Is it gonna be ur daily driver?
when you put that cummins in you should build it up to make some better hp.
Not on facebook or instagram, but I greatly enjoy your videos.
No need to facecrap or instashit. Just a waste of time.
