A nice dowel pin fix without additional hardware (that could also come loose and fall into the timing gears) is striking the case with a sharp center punch right next to the dowel pin. It creates enough distortion to the case that the pin simply cannot fall out.
Looking forward to more of your progress. Thumbs up.

i used to do some of this for a living back in the 80s. We put 2 cycle detroits in places they didn't belong. Put a 6v-53 in a gas powered bus. Bet it was loud. Our proudest was taking an old Cummins out of a mining truck that was a boat anchor and put in a 12v-71 turbo. Even had to modify the frame for the extended length of the 12. Looked like a set back axil on a Volvo truck. Had engineers coming up from Minneapolis Minn to see our work. The company was very satisfied with the trucks we did.

Really glad to see that you addressed the pin. A few years back a friend of mine asked me to help him with his Dodge Cummings pickup truck. When he told me one of the projects was to fix that PIN I thought he was wasting his time and mine. He had over 200,000 on the odometer and I told him if it hasn't fallen out it's not going to but if you want to replace it I will help. When we removed that cover I don't think he could have drove another half a block without that pin falling down. I don't know what kept it in the engine but fortunately for my friend he did not listen to my dumbass. I wish I would have seen or knew about the trick that you did. I think he paid 20 or $30 for the plate that covered the PIN.
good luck with your project. I look forward to seeing the rest of the videos of your progress.
