I love this volume, particularly when Captain America takes command of his kooky quartet.
Yes, really enjoyed those issues. They were so different from the Thor / Iron Man period.

When marvel made fun books. Sad to see them fall so hard today, they let activists run them into the pavement. I cant even read a modern marvel book
I still enjoy many of the modern comics, I read them more on the Digital service but I agree, for me, the best period was definitely 1961 - 1970s period but I can imagine many others disliking for the same reasons that I love them. They were fun books, I don't think they could ever do that now
Great cover (even if Moleman is tucked away at the back), a really classic shot of the Avengers, super dramatic.

It's always jarred with me The Hulk being in The Avengers... He's a monster more than a superhero. Like Spidey, never a team player.
True, I guess because he didn't have his own comic. I always felt Sub-Mariner would have been a more interesting choice (Aqua Man for the Avengers) instead they went for the super powerful character who was always grumpy and short fused (though that sounds like Namor as well but I always felt they could have developed him a whole lot more in those early comics and less a villain against the FF). Spider-man could have sort of dropped in, not all the characters appeared in the JLA all the time and it would have made a special comic every once in a while where it is Spidey and the Avengers say against Dr Ock or the Sinister Six or perhaps Aunt May. Patsy Walker could have joined, she didn't do too badly once she got into the Avengers / Defenders etc
There's 10 issues (or 9 and an annual) in those Mighty Marvel Masterwork books
thank you, yes, that is what I thought so probably two to match the epic. The epics are decent sized in most cases. Yet to buy any of the new MMM books. Did look at the Penguin paperbacks today and they were pretty good as well

Yes, I wish I had the omni - got the others but not volume 1, will probably get it if they ever reprint it.
Commissar is Russian isn' it - as Commies wasn't such a thing here in the UK compared to the States, I think wording like that was just changed to avoid confusing us kids. The L Miller Captain America reprints of the late 50;s removed all the "Commie smasher" wordings from the covers too.
That is a good reason, it just always amused me when you could see the slight change in lettering with the rewrites. Didn't realise that about the commie smasher, never had any of the L Miller Caps though (unlikely now as I assume they are very expensive)
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yes the Miller Marvel Hero issues can go for a bit now when they come up, certainly any key reprints (much like the Alan Class titles of the same ilk)
Yes, you can see that at the comic marts. Ones with the key stories in go for a lot, which is odd as they are basically the same as the ones in the old Fantastics and Terrifics and other UK comics, but then you see the other ones and they go for a lot less (even though the stories are less well known). Though all Ditkos go for a decent amount as well as all Kirby ones. I have quite a few of the Ditko ones. I wish had kept all my Alan Class ones, The L Millers were a little before my time so I only really picked them up later as well as the Streamline and others fron the late 50s. Same with the Australian etc ones, I love those as well. Romance ones are pretty decent and go for not that much, likewise the westerns etc. Picked up quite a few of those. Must do a video on those at some point.
