Love the hauls. You always turn me on to material I never would have seen/found. Great video Andrew.

thank you, glad the haul was of interest and there were a few less familiar items in the set. Whenever I go to the comic mart, always want to come away with unusual items as well as ones that fill in the gaps in some of the series that I collect such as Ka-Zar (not everyone's favourite but I have always liked the character)

@@AndrewBuckleBookReviewsI’m always fascinated and surprised by all the material you acquire. I love design, script, advertisement, comics, all types of books, so you are the perfect ambassador for that cause. 😅

I love a right mix of books, sometimes of interest perhaps but hopefully of interest to someone. Yes, advertisements are always fascinating, design books, books on movies, etc

Also big Ken Russell fan, read his autobiography when I was about 13 and blew my mind that he lived just a few miles away in The Lake District at the time. Met him just before he died and he signed loads for me, most of the DVDs on the reverse of the sleeve bless him. I really have to get that Music Lovers! Fantastic film.

I haven't watched all his films but I have enjoyed all the ones I have seen.

@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews One of the only ones I hadn’t seen until recently was Savage Messiah and it’s absolutely superb. Have all his early BBC stuff as well which changed Tv to be honest, pity he was largely forgotten during his later years. But that’s what happens to directors in this country I suppose, Michael Powell suffered the same fate.

I don't think we have cared at all about our major (or minor) directors in this country, perhaps Hitchcock. That was why I was so glad when Talking Pictures started, finally some exposure for a whole load of interesting films. BBC has never been great when it comes to B&W films, they are always the 'classics' and rarely films by Ken Russell etc. I will look out for the Savage Messiah, intriguing (never heard of it)

I love those old Marvel reprints. They were must have items for me as a kid as I started reading after Kirby and Ditko had left Marvel. Probably cheaper to buy now than the modern facsimile editions.

The Marvel reprints are still fairly affordable, yes, probably cheaper than some of the modern ones

Nice haul again Andrew. Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus 6 has just been announced for early next year too.

Some great stuff there Andrew, intrigued by The Mysterious Traveller, looks like Marvels answer to The Phantom Stranger, not sure if you have ever done anything on The Phantom, or Mandrake the magician ? Also have you ever read the Space Ghost origin book ?One of he best things I have read in years, really enjoy the channel

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  2 месяца назад

Sadly, I don't have much on the Phantom or Mandrake even though I read them when I was younger. The mysterious traveler was a Charlton book, not sure Ditko was with them in 80s (though he did create Squirrel Girl etc later). Space Ghost is a character I've never read, will have to look out for the book

Just found the space ghost origin, it is currently priced at £72 ... a bit steep

@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Oh wow I got for a fiver in the Notting Hill book exchange a few years back, these prices are getting a bit silly now

I haven't been there for years, went there fairly for quite a while as I lived just around the 'relative' corner in Maida Vale. Many things are just getting way too pricey

Great pick ups! Big Modesty Blaise fan, the film is 60’s camp and fairly watchable but it’s not really the character. Also a big fan of the BFI flipside releases have about 20-30 of them. Have you seen the shirt sharp shocks discs? Recommended if you haven’t! I had the Pete Walker Blu Ray set delivered yesterday, been waiting two years for it! Don’t know whether to sell my old versions though. Waiting on the Walt Simonson Omnibus to be delivered today hopefully 🤞

Still look forward to seeing Modesty Blaise, love 60s camp, even if the plots make little sense. I should have bought more of the BFI flipsides, they have been steadily releasing them and there are some really good films in the collection and I love their choice of the extras as well, wish all blurays would follow that format. I generally don't sell my old versions but they are always useful for birthday presents or gifts or raffles etc (though I doubt if many people want to watch weird Italian horror films from the 60s that often) Yes, I have one box of the short sharp shocks, must get around to watching those. Loved seeing those additional films at the cinema back in the 60s and 70s, sometimes better than the main release. I believe there are three sets.
I am waiting on the 'web of horror' archive book to arrive, got a few others in 'will they ever turn up' mode such as the Brian Bolland Gallery / Artisan and also Overstreet Lost Universes vol 2. Hopefully will arrive soon enough

Great variety of goodies! 🎯👍 I recently picked up a nice box set of Citizen Kane with a couple of booklets and lobby cards reproduced as postcards! My LCS,3 years ago opened up another store which is huge ,kinda super store of massive dollar comics, DVD, blue rays, magazines, books that cover just about covers everything! Over the past few months I picked up Inherit the Wind,To Kill a Mockingbird, Bird,Godzilla vs King Kong,Lost Highway,The Wild Ones,Dead Zone,The Exorcist& Morituri! Plethora of other things in this store! Also a boatload of silver age comics in various conditions! Doctor Who , I started watching the new series from the mid 2000’s,2008/09 I hit my local library and grabbed the seasons along with other DVD’s& CD’s! Marvel Collectors Item Classics which later was titled Marvel’s Greatest Comics! I was reading new FF at the time and diving into the reprints! Marvel Tales, Marvel Superheroes, the annuals with provided all the necessary backstory you could ever need! Sons of Origins with that beautiful John Romita cover!⚡️👍 Over the weekend I came across Moebius,Legend of Arzach Art Folio from Tundra with a helluva variety of artists Steranko,Eisner,Zeck,Mignola,Vess,Otomo,Stout,Ploog,Simonson and many more! I have the Tundra HC with all the same artwork! I even managed to get a few autographs along the way! Sky masters/Kirby comic strips,Dailies in one HC and Sunday’s soft cover, both in good old B&W!! Prisoner episode guide soft cover in color! I’m trying to track down the DVD of the series because it’s been ages since I’ve watched it! It would look great next to my Secret Agent box set! Patrick McGoohan⚡️👍 Which reminds me I also get his Scarecrow (Dr Sun alias) Haven’t seen that since the old Disney Sunday show in 1970!

I've got lots of blurays to get through, currently watching the Black Tight Killers (Japanese film) which is very good, very odd as well. I bought the Citizen Kane / Casablanca / Singing in the rain etc 4K box set and that is pretty good, that was my first 4K purchase and amazing in black and white. I have yet to pick up the Prisoner Bluray or even the DVD set, seen the show many times, it is available but it is very expensive, perhaps will wait for a new release some time in the future. As mentioned, enjoyed the latest Prisoner with Ian McKellan (very different though from the original)
Dr Who's latest season was fine in the end, started badly with the Space Babies but got used to both of them by the last episode. I have watched most of the Dr Whos over the year, even watched the first episode back in 1963 (according to my Mum as I can't recall watching it).
My favourite comic shop is GOSH, not the biggest store but two floors but it does not stock any blurays, for those I have to pop around to a few of the remaining stores such as HMV or order them online. There is a good HMV in Maidstone with lots of wonderful blurays
Son Of Origins is excellent, will have to keep an eye out for the Bring On the Bad Guys and that is most of the Fireside books collected. The material is much the same as collected since but it is great to have it in a slightly different form and it was a set I enjoyed back in the 70s

Just looked online, the Bring Back The Bad Guys is currently UK priced at about £250, probably won't be getting that one - of course, could easily turn up at a comic mart for £10
