I've seen people say this, as well as the graphics just looking better in general. I actually put these games side by side in an emulator and found that Ultimate removed the reflections on all characters, one example is leading to Marth's sword looking like cardboard (this is the same on real hardware, incase you're wondering). Once you see it you'll never unsee it
Objectively, Smash 4 was really not the best Smash, but it was my entry into the series, so it'll always have a place in my heart. Nice to see a hype Grand Finals
Honestly I think Smash 4 is the best game because it has the best traits of every Smash game while also removing the worst traits of the previous ones (looking at you ledgehogging and tripping). They also actually TRIED to balance characters through an even amount of nerfs and buffs instead of "well if we buff everyone else then we don't need to nerf the top tiers right!!!" because apparently if you buff low tiers it means you don't have to nerf high/top tiers!
@@Mike-di3mo I mean there could be arguments as to how it's not the best Smash game but it definitely isn't the worst. Again I think it has the best traits of every Smash game, in fact it's the last game to retain a majority of previous Smash tech and last game that included every mode from Brawl besides break the targets (which sucked in Brawl) and Subspace (a one time thing even Sakurai himself said it was), along with fun new modes and stuff like custom moves
@@NessMother2 It's still the worst one because it's the most bland, and you can't just say it's better because they suddenly have it at a big tournament it's still mid atleast smash 64 still has a bigger competitive community. And custom moves aren't even good.
@boogooogYour the one defending. Mid smash game and saying ultimate isn't much better. I grew up with smash 4 but it's still the worst in the series because it extremely bland with next to nothing to do, now are you gonna say brawl is the best in the series. Ultimate has its flaws but it's objectively the best in the series but if you like smash 4 then good.
As a Ness and Lucas main, seeing Ness win such a big tournament makes me happy. Especially for pulling a reverse 3-0 against the strongest character in the game.
Actually, Smash 4 had better lighting and effects than ultimate. The later felt too much cartoonish, and some stages does look better in Smash 4 engine. I hope next smash game do a balance in between as the next console would be more powerful than switch (Switch is running hardware from 2014 lol)
They use the same engine. The shaders have no relation to reusing the engine though. Brawl, Sm4sh and Ultimate all use Havok physics engine. Brawl had some melee code but Sm4sh and Ultimate dont have Melee code but Ultimate keeps a lot from 4. Making a new engine is like reinventing the wheel. They don't need a new one until they need a new one for something the current one cannot handle.
I feel like Ultimate has the opposite problem that Brawl had visually. Brawl was too dark, while Ultimate is too faded. Smash 4 on the other hand looks just right in my opinion, giving the cartoony characters a vibrant appearance while the more mature looking characters still looked pretty good. Also some effects like the explosions and the smoke looked more realistic in Smash 4 while they look too cartoonish in Ultimate.
both smash 4 and brawl are better than ultimate. change my mind. ultimate is a melee wannabe with horrible input lag, horrible buffer controls, and atrocious online play that we consumers are now forced to pay money for.
@@Eurley You absolutely can make a balanced fighting game. It'll never be perfect, but balanced doesn't mean perfect. Ness winning a major in 2024? Let's fucking go
Spoiler bro😤
If only it was a major
@D4karai As far as Smash 4 goes this is as major as it will ever get. Cherish the victory for everything it is.
You love to see it, you love to see it
Did I just see a reverse 3-0 against Bayonetta
with ness!
THIS IS WHY SMASH 4 IS STILL HYPE
A NESS WINING A MAJOR
is it just me or is smash 4 effects so enjoyable to watch after getting used to ultimate
Smash 4 has much more realistic looking graphics for its effects. I really don't like the cartoonish simplistic looking effects of ultimate
You’re not alone, I’ve preferred Smash 4’s artstyle since they revealed Ultimate at E3 2018

They likely dialed down on expensive effects to allow for Ice Climbers to be included again.
As soon as I saw pika's color in ultimate I decided I liked smash 4 art style more @@kajuanlockett8980

No shot. Look at every one of ness’s moves compared to ultimate. They look like a flash game here
@boogooog irrelevant to the discussion on aesthetics
@boogooog yeah their power is not connected to their aesthetics. It’s ok to be wrong
LETS FUCKING GOOO
ShadowPR looks like he's playing Ultimate Bayo, not Smash 4 Bayo, but anyways congrats to Marcus
Smash 4 never died. It just went dormant for a while

Is it really necessary to put pronouns in the info? It has nothing to do with what we're seeing here.
It isn't "necessary" but it makes talking about the players easier. It's harmless.
