- No copyright infringement intended. Credit only to artists and composers Thom Bell and the late Linda Creed (Linda and the late Sweetie Barbara Ingram sang backing vocals). For historical and informational purposes only. A real Philly beaut by the Stylistics and genius composers Thom Bell and the late Linda Creed. And of course...the magnificent MFSB. Hope you like my stretch!
Two of the greatest song writers of all times and Thom Bell was one of the greatest producers and arrangers ever.Dont let me forget Linda Creed, awesome woman!
Yes, she was a gifted writer, and nice looking too. Rest well to both🙏
Thom Bell and Linda Creed were a musical match made in heaven, the arrangement, horns, strings every instrument was present along with talented singer it was like baking a soulful cake and it all came out beyond good.
The 70's was filled with huge hit songs. Thank God for the song writers, like Thom Bell and the late great Linda Creed. The group the Stylistics were on the radio with all their amazing songs that still sound like hits today in 2021.
Most people don't know that Russell Thkmpkins Jr sang and recorded these songs alone without the other 4 Stylistic steppers. They weren't even in the recording studio for first 3 albums or the 14 traight top hjts. It was just Russell and backup singers were Thom Bell, Linda Creed, Kenny Gamble. BUNNY Seigler, Leon Huff and ladies called Philly Angel's This song used the MFSB studio singers.. Russell was the Stylistic voice and sound for over 30 years until he quit in 2000 and started his own group Russell Thompkjns Jr and New Stylistics. 🎶⭐🎶

CLASSIC Philadelphia International Records, Gamble, Huff & Bell. Thom Bell & the late Linda Creed composed this Masterpiece. I was Bassist for Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, Billy Paul and Ms. Sharon Paige. I would have loved to play for The Stylistics. Peace & Love from PHILLY!!!
Robert Gilmore 2.....contact Russell Thompkins jr. On his web fan page. He just lost his long time quitar player.... maybe you can play for him yet!

Thank you, mosogotam.
My main man and former wynnefield neighbor on guitar on this track the late norman harris RIP
Yes! It was the Sigma studio musicians who made the music. For many more people than Gamble and Huff.
Oddly enough I thought this was just studio musicians...little did I realize this was MFSB. The Stylistics alone was enough to sell this album for me. But, the eerie and lush arrangement of the "bridge" is just stellar. Children of the Night...the meaning was so multifaceted and edgy for the 70's. And because of the length..the radio stations were very reluctant to play the full album cut...except for a few late night FM stations. Lucky for me...living in Detroit/Windsor Ontario I was graced with many a nights listening pleasure. Nice to hear this extended version...THANKS!!!
I love this song it came out when I was in 4th grade, but today I share this and other of their treasures with my daughter AJ Downey she loves this type of 🎵🎶
John.... What I think is amazing about you.... You have no boundaries.... You go where your heart is...The Stylistics are just the best of the early 70's... Their entire library is great... And so are you! Thank you my brother!
Eddie...thanks for the very kind words!!!!
You can say Stylistics but it was Russell Thompkins Jr singing this song with studio backup singers...Thom Bell , Leon Huff, Kenny Gamble, Bunny Seigler, Linda Creed and the Philly Angels singing backup. The other 4 Stylistic steppers weren't even in the recording studio. It was all Russell Thompkins on first 3 albums and 12 straight top hits. Airion sang few lines on 2 of the songs. " You Are Everytbing" and " You make me feel". Facts. 💫🎶
@@nancywood9531 As I said, they are pictured on their first album cover and Airrion Love is the lead on "You Make Me Feel Brand New."
@@mosogotam Linda Creed did a live recoding withe the Spinners " then came you" in 1974, but audio only, could you put your hands on the live video and upload. That would be great.
I have this and it's a favorite, can't beat this extended version though. A pleasant surprise!
Donna...thanks so much!!!
Wow. Can't believe I've never heard this album. This extended version is amazing.
Sound of Philadelphia.
John! Once again! I jumped the gun! The guitar solo!! 🎸Shades of Benson!! Outstanding!!!😎
Appreciated, Sir!!
Love Love this version!
1972, I was in my 2nd at Dunbar Vocational High in Chicago Ill. LOVED this song, it was never released as a single, so, I HAD to have the ALBUM. For some reason I never made the MFSB connection, I just knew that it was GOOD! Got plenty of airplay too! According to discogs.com at least 4 singles from this album alone were released! Thanks for this amazing EXTENDED mix!
Kenneth...much appreciated!!!
Mfsb mother father sister brother. House band for Philly international. They made all those group's sound so sweet made some pretty good albums too didn't get the credit they deserve bad ass band 👍👌
I was a senior at East High School in Cleveland, Ohio when this came out. The disc jockeys would play the whole album at night while I was doing my homework. The music just speaks to your heart when you listen to it.
Fabulous!!
Thanks, Margot!!

well...it's written about a gay man. A play was written about it some years ago...it was presented in L.A. It had a limited run...this was at least 18 years ago. Listen to the lyrics closely......
Its a great song, well written, well produced. The voices, strings....classic.

Late at night when all the world is safe
Within their dreams, I walk the shadows
Late at night an empty feeling creeps
Within my soul, I feel so lonely
So I go into the darkness of the night
All alone I walk the streets until I find
Someone who is just like me
Looking for some company
Children of the night
Late at night a restless feeling takes
Control of me and I can't fight it
Late at night I feel the need for someone
Who like me needs understanding
So once again I'll search the darkness of the night
All alone I'll walk each street until I find
Someone who is just like me
Looking for some company, no, yeah, hea
Children of the night
So once again I'll search the darkness of the night
All alone I'll walk each street until I find
Someone who is just like me…
