that sound of that guitar when the solo kicks in at 2:11 is incredible. Like, "cry yourself to sleep because you know you'll never have a guitar sound that sweet." kind of incredible.
I guess that's the nice thing about a '59 Les Paul, it generally has so much sustain, you don't need a boat load of fuzz to keep a note ringing, so things tend to stay much more defined as there's no need to resort to fuzz-mud.
I'd love to see the old boys of Whitesnake back for an album and tour, with Marsden, Moody, Murray, Coverdale, Paice and Airey in for the late John Lord (rip) Sadly it won't happen but they were far better as a blues based rock band. Marsden is just superb.
Isa Bel oh ya !! Gotta love those years :) that guitar he's playing has quite a history!! I think Clapton owned it for a while, Peter Green, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck played and loved it and the list goes on :) its a 1959 can you imagine what its worth ? lol
Awesome! Drop us a note when it's ready. I used to live in B'ham as a kid and a neighbour was then lead guitarist with The Steve Gibbons band, and I think he knew Cozy from a place called Sutton Coaldfield (maybe)?
Also, if the beano LP was a 60 it should still retain it's Cherry sunburst finish. Didn't Gibson correct the fault in the finishing process around the end of 59/beginning of 60?
The Beast is definitely not the Beano guitar. Clapton has always said he remembers the Beano guitar having a very thin neck, which suggests it was a 1960 Les Paul. The Beast apparently has a fat neck typical of 50s Les Pauls.
Study the top of this guitar and compare it to known photos of Eric's LP, there doesn't seem to be a definite match, Eric had his covers off the pickups and the neck pickup was missing 2 pole screws in the good close up photo of his guitar. I've put a good 12 years in the most in-depth research on PAF's thats ever been done, it IS possible to get close to those guitars with the right electronics and the work I do, Watch HD PAF Replicas on my Channel with comparisons to actual vintage PAF's.
what a growl, true vintage guitar an has aged well..i might consider getting a cheaper alternative LTD..set neck 81 in the bridge..an a 490n in the neck..but a want a phat maple top..guess im gonna sell my car, consider getting a real 58 L.P standard..or american flying V with tremolo..Henry 500T bridge ice tea would be nice or a Les Paul burst..ice tea..whatever
So what is the deal here, Is this the ultimate sounding Les Paul out there?? Why does everyone crave the 1959's?!?!? I have a classic custom from 2007.. The good one, not the cheaper ones they came out with later.. I think it sounds as good as this one here...
The sound if this burst is THE sound of a Les Paul i have in my head.
Articulate, clean and classic. Great filming too. Bernie knows how to build a classic solo!
The video ended five minutes ago and I can still hear the sustain.

That tone is seriously amazing..

Awesome! Drop us a note when it's ready. I used to live in B'ham as a kid and a neighbour was then lead guitarist with The Steve Gibbons band, and I think he knew Cozy from a place called Sutton Coaldfield (maybe)?

Omg that tone :o
nothing like vintage pickups !!
So many clips. Which one is best? This one. That's not debate-able.
EARGASM!
I see its had a re-fret!
Also, if the beano LP was a 60 it should still retain it's Cherry sunburst finish. Didn't Gibson correct the fault in the finishing process around the end of 59/beginning of 60?
On photos i've seen, the Beano top looks very plain.
And yes, in 60 they used another finish, that didn't fade that strong.

Have any of the electronics been replaced on the guitar or is it all original?
amazingly fantabulous
