My grampa worked on this movie. It was filmed near my house - the scene in the snow was done in Canada in February and that water she walks in with bare feet - was REAL!! Geena Davis even mentioned this - she was a trooper for this movie. Sam Jackson says that Mitch Hennessey character in this movie is his favourite role of all time! This is such an underrated movie and I would class it as a Christmas thriller movie as well. Thanks for posting!!

By the end of the film, both characters are fully integrated. She may be a school teacher on a picnic in the country with her family, but the knife throw shows that she's still lethally dangerous.

    i recommend you :
DETECTIVE: *Shaft* (2000) Samuel L. Jackson & Christian Bale
PIRATE : *Cutthroat Island* (1995) Geena Davis & Matthew Modine
    BONUS TRACK
    DOG STORY :
    *Fluke* (1995)
Matthew Modine , Samuel L. Jackson (voice) & Ron Perlman (voice)

Cutthroat Island gets so much shit from people, and I don't understand it. They will never make a movie like that again. Real giant ships blasting cannons at each other. Yeah it bombed, but that wasn't the movie's fault. Geena is a fucking badass in that one too.

@@evanwakelin7944 Thanks, i agree, i was that movie as a child and i love it.
now as a adult i realized that they do not use stand doubles to do the action scenes.
the practical fx is awesome! and i'm pretty sure Priates of the caribeans was inspired by this movie...
Cutthroat Island (1995) deserve + love
      another Hated great movies :
      - Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
      - Small Soldiers (1998)
      - Waterworld (1995)

Gina Davis and SLJ have both said they loved/ their favorite movie an have both talked about the stunt where they jump out the window at the train station, thinking it be done on a stage at 75 degrees they said nope on location into a real frozen lake, so when they are coming out the window ( on wires of course ) but then dunked up to they could burst up outta the frozen lake 🥶 like I couldn’t imagine having to do that for a roll

The sniper rifle was in the suitcase that the secretary told us about from the landlady. The pie didn't knock the bald guy out, the glass pie pan did. The shotgun blast that had explosive properties is called a dragons breath round. I love this movie and yes it is a Christmas movie just like Die hard. This movie was directed by Geena Davis's then husband Renny Harlin who also directed Die hard. Samuel L Jackson has said recently that Mitch is the favorite character he's ever played. I watch this every Christmas eve.

"You can't kill me motherF'er!" is still one of my all time favorite Sam Jackson lines. He's really great in Long Kiss Goodnight, especially since he rarely plays a sidekick.

23:13 When Samuel L Jackson's female partner called him she told him Charlie Baltimore's landlady had a suitcase full of her stuff which she kept hold of after she just disappeared 8 years before. She kept it because Charlie was her favourite tenant. He picked it up from her.

One of the best and most believable female action movie characters. She doesn't fling people around, gets overpowered and needs several hits to take a guide out, but shoots, cuts and breaks necks. Sure, a lot is not realistic, it's still an action movie after all, but much more realistic than what we see these days.
Not as actiony, but with a similar vibe is 'Conspiracy Theory' (19978) with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts.

This is def a fav xmas flick as a kid and always liked that the badass Charlene Baltimore referenced the X-Men. "i just sock'em in the jaw and say pop goes the weasel" is classic : P also love how even in the 90s the false flag attack trope of blaming an arab was a thing, because they tried that before with the first WTC bombing but the cia got caught lying like they always do, so funny. what a fun ass movie : D

It wasn't the pie that knocked him down. You can actually hear that it had a glass tray that broke when she hit him with it. And yes, with great force.

    • @Dreamfox-df6bg

Yes, people keep forgetting that it's not the pie that hurts, it's the plate or tray the pie is on.

"Easy, sport. I got myself outta Beirut once, I think I can get outta New Jersey."
"Yeah? Well, don't be so sure. Others have tried and failed. The entire population, in fact."
Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Shawn Doyle.
Pay Day Fact: Shane Black became the first writer to sell a script for $4 million. He later admitted that this caused a lot of envy among his fellow screenwriters, as well as accusations of commercialism.
Location Location Fact: The resort Windemere House in the Muskoka region of Ontario, Canada burned down while filming scenes there. The production company had to re-work the scenes in Collingwood, Ontario. Windemere House has since been rebuilt.
New Ending Fact: In the first draft of the screenplay, Mitch (Samuel L. Jackson) dies of his bullet wounds. Test audiences liked his character and performance so much so that the ending was re-shot, letting him live to save the day and redeem himself. On the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (2014) on January 14, 2019, Samuel L. Jackson listed Mitch as his favorite role.
Action Star Fact: Geena Davis and then-husband director Renny Harlin checked how long she could hold her breath in their bathtub to prepare for the "water torture" scene. This film and Cutthroat Island (1995) were attempts by director Renny Harlin and his then-wife, Geena Davis, to not only further her career, but to generate more public interest in female action stars. The ice skating scene was scripted to end with Samantha performing a double axel flip and simultaneously firing over her upside-down head. After two aerial-rig configurations (in sub-zero conditions) and several attempts at greenscreening failed to hold any convincing fluency to the action, it was dropped from the final cut of the film.
