- Which commercial aircraft is the longest in the world? A simple answer is more complicated than it may at first seem. Looking over the sheer range of different widebody aircraft ever built, there are some surprisingly long aircraft that defy our eyes, but which takes the crown?

The 777X landed once out of the blue at Portland while I was working on the ramp, and we all stopped and were just in awe at the size of it. It was a privilege to see it up close.
Whazzat? You a Ground Crew person?? Something like that!! I'll bet you have a fun, interesting job!!! Good 4 U!!!!
The a318 looks hilarious with how short it is
Brandon King Looks like an a380
Like a goldfish
An a320 but with a cut fuselage😂😂😂😂
I would say the a310-200 looks pretty short compared to the a330
BabyBus
1:03 it’s so freaking CUTE! 😂😂😂
Ikr
It’s adorable!
IKR😩😭😭😭😭😭
Yeah. It's KISSY KISSY. Even A310 is a Kissy Jetliner
Ikr can I have him😂
"We're only going to talk about planes that are in regular use... Let's kick it off with the 737-100!" LMAO
What if there's a Boeing 737-000 LOL
Screaming
What's the world's longest passenger plane?
Let's kick off with the world's shortest.
“ The longest aircraft “and he proceeds to tells us of the shortest!
The Dornier 328 jet is only 21 metres long. I used to regularly fly on it between the UK and Denmark.
It's still in use, operated by Sun Air / British Airways
It flys over my house and I am always glad to hear and see it :)
I flew the turbo prop in Afghanistan. Great little airplane.
It looks like it's a turboprop, though. So it wouldn't count here.
Had to look, the BAE 146 was 28 m in length.
@Loli Anda punya express air ya om?
1:03 Awww cho cute
It's named as: babybus.
Lmao
Cute because he said "103 feet" at 1:03 LOL!!
This video is stretched more than the A340-600
Would be nice to just fly somewhere in 2020🙁
CORONA VIRUS ( COVID - 19)
I mean it’s possible
Walter Santos hahaha good one
HPPAV2003 I love traveling
@kyle1490 kyle1490 how long does that take? About 1 hour im thinking
I love Airbus but I will always remove my hat for a Boeing 747. I'll never forget traveling on the tiny upstair floor.
YEAH! i seat next that upper deck emergency door 😭 miss 747
Had no idea that the B747-8 was longer than the A340-6. Thanks for the info
747-8i is currently longest airliner
A380 has longest cabin length in total on main & upper deck
757-300 is the longest narrowbody airliner still serving on commercial
Guess (if) 777-10 will be the longest ever airliner w/ 80m in length
#AvGeek 🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫🛫
The 777-10 doesn’t exist. Boeing has considered stretching it, but if they do, it’ll certainly be a while until that can happen. The 777-9, on the other hand, has already flown and, once it enters service, it will be the longest airliner in existence.
Jackson Smith he means when it comes out i think
It....still doesn’t exist. And Boeing hasn’t confirmed that it’ll happen. It might not happen at all.
Your kind of correct but I'd like to point out something here.
The McDonnell Douglas DC-8-6(1/3) and DC-8-7(1/3) is greater than 57 meters. They are a Narrowbody airliner that is still flying today, commercially, but as cargo, not passenger.
Middy_37
The Super-8 (DC-8 stretch) was cool flight experience flying NY to LA. The aisle was forever long cockpit to bulkhead.
The A340 or “The flying pencil”.
Boeing 757
Check out the Douglas DC-8-71. Now THAT'S a pencil.
Lmao
Flying pencil was the Dornier Do 17...designed as a fast mail plane in the 1930s then uses as a Bomber, Reconnaissance plane and later also Night Fighter
@@RedLP5000S looks even more pencil in the -60s without the fat engines
Normal people : "Hmm wonder what it is lets watch the video"
Avgeeks: Still the longest commercial plane is 747-8 but the 777X will be the longest when it starts to operate
Karlo Grgas FSX "pilots" 😂
Correct
Lol only by almost a meter xD
Oh so avgeeks aren't normal?
@@deltic_rblx-robloxtranspor306 Its the normal ones who think they're normal who aren't normal
One of those 'mine is longer than yours' video

Smug Megumin thank you

Everyone finds the A318 cute. The 737-200 is cuter for me. Like a small bird who paid for a buffet
Wouldn't the BAe 146-100/Avro RJ70 be the shortest at approximately 86 feet long? I believe it's still in service
I hate when people compare the 787 and a350- they’re both in completely different classes. It’s the a330neo and the 787, or the a350 and 777x.
Hold up: The 1st plane to surpass the 747-100-400 was the original 777 stretch, then came the A-340-600, then came the 747-8, then the 777 -Max 9.
it’s 777-9x not the max -9
Correct title:
Which is the most pencil looking plane
McDonnell-Douglas MD-90-30.
Boeing 757 🙂
A340
Crj-1000
A-318 so cute 😍
It's like a baby plane 😍
It could come out of A380 lol
Idk why but the A340 gust looks so long and nice
That's what she said
I would guess A340-600. I saw one up close at the Paris Air Show many years ago, and I remember how much that truly surprised me.
Answer: 3:27 (Boeing 777-9)
3:54 "This new aircraft has all the advantages of Boeing 747" Woooow👏👏👏 What about the upper cabin?
`Abd Albarr Aal Sayyid love it
That’s not really an advantage.
@@bigbadbear2962 Yeah
@@joeys5429 I respect your opinion.
I've flown on a 737-200 before. They were short, but still felt like a modern, large airliner, unlike all the small commuter twins of today. Never had the privilege of riding on a 747, but I have flown on the MD-80, DC-10, 757, L1011, 727 (both 100 and 200), 717, Fokker F-100, A-310, Canadair CRJ, and a slew of twin turboprops too long to mention. My favorites were the 757 and L1011. Never ridden at such a high deck angle during climb out as the 757 and enjoyed the Rolls Royce fan growl of it and the Lockheed immensely. I miss the 727. Aviation is too tame and homogeneous today. They perfected it and made it boring.
The 747 looks great but would love to see a full length double decker version
I was on the Nolinor 737-200 in 2016! Back then I knew the -200 was rare, but not as rare as it actually is. The windows on the -200 are extremely low, the top of the window game up to my shoulder. It was a really awesome experience though!
thought I was tripping when I saw the a318 😂
Glad I’m not the only one who thinks the A340 looks really long
Thanks for have Vietnam Airlines in your video
came here for the longest and he tells me about the shortest ^^
Simple Flying should make a video about the shortest widebody aircraft
Video idea lolz
767-200.
Wasn't expecting to see iron maiden in this video!
3:52 Economics aside, 4 engines are bot a hindrance. Give me 4 engines over 2 any day, especially on those long trans-Atlantic routes.
0:15 My country’s airline 😍
Vietnam Airlines has one of the most beautiful liveries in my opinion
I still think the a340-600 by far looks the longest, because it’s sort of narrow but have ridiculously wide wings, long fuselage and huge engines
Thanks for information and video. I really enjoy watching it. A A from Karachi Pakistan. 👍
I wonder if the increasing length of aircraft is going to cause any issues at the stands of some airports!?
There have already been some instances of tails of aircraft on stands being clipped by aircraft with increased wingspan.
My guess was between the A340 or Boeing's 777. So not far from the end result. Nice informative video.
"Smaller twin engined planes" like the increasingly enormous 777s with engines as large as 737s. It makes it seem like just putting 777 engines on a 747 will work
The DC-8 stretch was a long single isle plane.
Nice presentation, many thanks.
It used to be my favorite aircraft, the A340-600
ERJ145 operated by United Express.
and CRJ200.. a318 is a giant when compared.
I can't wait to see the new 777-X, for it's groovy folding wing tips and it's 2 truly epic 737 fuselage swallowing GE-9X's.
The A318s super short vibe is reminding me of the 747SP, except the SP actually didn’t look that short
Watching airplane videos (by any channel) nowadays be like

Covid-19: I'm gonna stop you right there
Both Boeing and Airbus have longer variants possible in the future. The A350-1100 would be 79m, and the 777-10X would be 80m. However, I don't think there's much demand for 400+ seat aircraft from airlines right now.
Fan of the 777 series 🤙🏾🤙🏾🔥
That 777x is so freaking beautiful
It was the A340-600 from 2001-2010. The 747-8 was from 2010 to present. However, the 777-9X will take the crown when it enters commercial services in 2021/2022.
I think the 757-300 is the most beautiful airliner, it's so slim.
the front end of the 757 looks hilarious to me. But other than that it really is a wonderful looking plane.
B757-300 is a flying pencil
@@AlexAviation. How can you argue with that :D
@@AlexAviation. And I like it due to this feature
Maciej Foryś, Ive been on a few, it’s my Fav passenger plane
Only one little problem with really long aircraft. Higher incidence of tail strikes.
A turboprop that compete on longest commercial pax plane ! That would be a sight to see
Great video. ☺️
Calling all av geaks, does the 777x have the same wing make up as the 78? It looks similar and both are stunning works of engineering! Just wondering 😊
I think by guessing its the 777x or the A340.
Me too mate
You forgot the 747-8
A A isn't 787-10 longer?
RazorRush KrypticEye no, 787-10 is 68m 747-8 is 76.2m. Other 747 variants are 70.6 or smthn apart from the 747SP which is 57m.
A A Oh sorry I thought u said 787-8
The 777 300er is 74m long. 3m longer than the 747 400 and a metre longer than the a380. It is also currently the longest twin engined aircraft in service.
mikin lirou the 777 300 is one inch longer than the a350. However, one could argue the 777 is bigger overall, it has greater capacity, wingspan, height and a wider cabin. It also has larger engines.
Beautiful Airplanes.
Boeing 747-8i, since the Boeing 747 is my favorite plane.✈️
What about the DO328Jet for shortest jet? If i recall correctly it's still in service in some small U.S. airline
what about the Fairchild-Dornier Do 328JET
its only 21m long and operated normally by for example Sun Air
The Yakovlev Yak-40 is only 66 feet, 10 inches long and is still in commercial service, particularly with Motor Sich Airlines in Ukraine and Vologda Aviation Enterprise in Russia. I am fairly certain it is the shortest jet airliner you can fly on that is still in service.
The DC-8 always seemed like a super long pencil
0:57, Turboprops are Jet Airliners, For example, the Bombardier Dash8 Q-400 has been in service for years and has two Turboprops
2:05
That Nolinor 737 is still parked in YYZ airport. It's actually a pretty funny sight
777 is so long, there is a cable car to take pax to the back.
Love this plane
Good. Sad to see the 340 600 go. Graceful lines. Miss you
I'm sad too. Still waiting to fly on one. - TB
@@SimpleFlyingNews you should do a piece on why the 340 600 and 340 500 were not a commercial success
I'll feed it back to our content team. - TB
It looks like a 777-300er from a certain angle, probably because of the wing to body ratio
The a340 is literally a pencil LMAO
Dylan's World 808 both of them are
Very nice.
👍 Good video.
i like the design of the plane with a humps in the front.
Don’t include Crj?
Why is the 747 going away, when everything else that are apparently smaller are getting so long that they will probably carry the same amount of passengers? So arent they kinda the same?
A340-600 what a beautiful plane❤🙏
I love you video’s
Do you count if someone took a small private jet and started a airline and carry passengers daily as the smallest aircraft for comer cal?
I don't think you can start an official airline with a small private jet
Smoke Weed Everyday There was an airline that I believe operated Cessna Citation’s
@@cmdrrgh maybe but I'm talking about the registration part you need normal sized airliners to cover up the loans for training pilots and getting licenses and stuff
When I fly overseas it’s usually on a 787 which a very big passenger jet but this last time I got to fly on a 777 on the way back to the US. ✈️
I get that, since the demise of Concorde, we’re all supposed to be obsessed with carbon footprint. Just for fun though, could you do a video on the fastest airliners?
@@77l96 isn't the -8 tied with the a380?
@@77l96 actually, the a380 may be faster
@@77l96 I have no idea how
Guys you don’t have to watch the video the longest aircraft is the 747-8 like he said all this extra stuff that we don’t need to know, also the 777X is really long.
...before the wide-body era, two transports vied for the title of the longest and largest. One was the US built DC-8 series 61 and 63 at 187 ft, 4 in and other the Russian TU-114. at 17 ft, 6 In . Though the Tupolev was shorter by 9 ft 10 in ft, overall it was considered the largest civil transport until the 747 rolled out as it had a a wingspan of 167 ft 8 in (19 ft 8 in greater than the DC-8 Super 63), was taller being 50 ft, 8 in at the vertical stabiliser (5 ft 3 in greater than the DC-8 Super 63), and tipped the scales at 200,621 # empty (outweighing the DC-8 Super 63 by 41,883# ).
I guess we’ll be seeing some tailstrike incidents with the 777-9 in the near future
AMG Nah they happen more with low gear aircraft that are long like the 737-800 or 737-900/ER
I think they will install software, just like the later 777-300ERs
Why would they install software? The air frame literally flies well, every airliner is prone to tail strike some just more prone than others. The longer 737Ngs have bumps on the aft section to prevent damage to tail strike
@Ben Ghazi well, they did it with later 777-300ERs, older ones and -300s have tail skids
@@AA-tz2bm and a321
I still think the a340 600 is almost monster like, its so cool. It doesn't seem real
This guy sounds just like the RUclips host on Curious Droid.
A318 looks cute ☺️
Awesome
We’re close to a 100 meter long Plane 🤣
Happy 1st anniversary to this video even though it is April 1 2021 today
The longest narrow body airliner I believe was the DC-8-61 at 187 ft.
I think the 753 is a little longer.
Wow, 777-9!
Depending on what you mean by "Long" when .. long is the LONGest point so... unless you actually look at it as "from nose to tail" then... A380 is 79.75m (261.8 ft in) wingspan! :)
Length is usually held to be from nose to tail, with wingspan not being considered as the determining dimension in this presentation.
Interesting
I'm pretty sure the 777x is longer than the 747-8i which makes it the longest.
dave miller did you watch the video
dave miller no
Uk beers reviews And British beers Longest in service
some of yall are deaf
The 747 will always be the Queen. But dang that 777 looks a little sexy
Looking forward to fly again with the A380 , so an amazing experience. Did you fly in 2020.?
It was nice seeing Ed Force One rented by Iron Maiden
Honestly what was the point of making the 777x I feel like it's gonna be exactly like the 747-8 where no airline is going to buy it and is going to pretty much only be used for cargo
