Chilling on a plane with just 49 other people actually seems kind of fun. It seems like it could create some unstoppable friendships, especially with the dancing and being able to move around.
Economy shouldn't even be an option for that flight. That's just brutal. Instead of meals you get a snickers bar. No leg room. No where to move around. And you have to sleep sitting up. No thank you.
Ive been on some long flights with Qantas in economy, and I’m definitely smaller than average so space isn’t usually a problem for me, but I know for some people space on short haul flights is an issue for them so a 16 hr flight would be pretty hardcore. but the food is usually pretty good generally (pretty much a business class meal but presented less attractively?) plus i cant really sleep on planes so i just watch movies and eat the mars bars 🤷♀️
Normally on long haul flights you got served 2 meals. I took only red eye long haul flights. So for me it was always a dinner 1 hour after take off and a breakfast 2 hours before landing. Also during the flights some people walk on the aisle to stretch their body.
I agree. I once flew for 14 or 15 hours and it was the most uncomfortable time in a plane I ever had. It was a nice plane too, with television and music and stuff, but still way too brutal.
Why not? I think it's very realistic. Airbus has considered stretching the a350-1000 to a further amount of 4 meters, and since the -1000 version is already stretched offering 440 max seats in a 3 class config, they potentially fit up to 300 seats (just by taking an educated guess) in there if everything was just business and first-class. I hope it works out.
Jet Lag is the least of my worries when flying long hours in coach... It's literally inhumane how many people airlines fit into one plane, giving you no room to even sit straight!! I'm short and still it hurts a lot, taller people can't even sit normally cause their knees touch the seat in front. A week after a 14 hr flight and my hips still hurt, if they had idk 50 less passengers it would be bearable.
On any legacy airline economy is fine. Ample leg room for short people like me (im 5,2) and even if your 6 feet ive seen flight reviews of 6 foot blokes having great leg room. Were you flying some low cost airline or something.
First Class: feels like a 5hr flight Business Class: feels like a 8hr flight Economy: feels like a 30hr flight This test is flawed caused you, the journalist didn’t sit in economy for the 19hrs which 80% of the flyers will have to endure if they take this route.
They already explained they wont have a full cabin as that would weigh the plane down a lot, which will make the plane not able to do that distance. The tickets are supposed to be higher priced to make up for the lack of seats, and there will 99.9% of the time be no babies if you were to take this flight as people who pay for that ticket at that high price most likely will not bring babies on board.
ChikęnNōōgetBoî while the plane wouldnt be fully packed, they would still need to balance out the plane. So it does bring up a good point about seating. My guess is that they would likely have to transform all seats to be better than economy (maybe not first class but at least with a functioning bed and elbow space) cause otherwise this flight would be torture in economy, even if you are not packed in there with tons of people
At such a distance the plane cannot carry all passengers and their cargo (even a 787-9) so its likely they'll go for an all business class set up. I mean, the average man flying economy is unlikely to ever have a reason to be flying New York - Sydney directly out of his pocket
They'll probably have to convert the whole plane to either first class or business. The planes today can't carry enough fuel to make the full flight with a full load of passengers.
@@Sulfen First Class is a thing of the past, and a plane full of them? Yeah, who would pay for that? Business class is more than good enough these days. The things that separate first class from business today is more personalized service and slightly better food and drinks. When they start flying this route, it would more than likely be only business class and premium economy seats on the plane, which is what Singapore Airlines has done with their planes that flies between New York and Singapore.
I don’t think they considered the fact that most people would not be able to pay for a business seat. They should’ve tried the 19hr flight all of them cramped up in the economy class
@@sunkara8158 They probably will. The mobility, ambiance and food they offer will probably compensate for the inconveniences of an economy experience. And there's an existing model of a long flight mentioned, so they have a visual, already.
They should have checked for full coach class. Its impossible to even move your elbows, forget the sleep... I think they should start all business class flight for this route.
The super long distance flights singapore airlines operates is using planes with no economy. They only have premium economy (94 seats) and business (67 seats).
Well, it’s because they’re rich- so of course they’d test the option for anyone with a shit ton of money, who are the majority for flights like this. Besides, I’m pretty sure the editors would get pissy if they had to deal with what us common folk do- like crying babies and back pains because we can’t afford luxury airfare when we can barely afford healthcare. So, simply put it, the income gap with the steadily shrinking middle class- because people like Jeff Bezos definitely need those billions of dollars when half of America has the same amount of income as him.
@@FloweryOnCrack it’s the New York mfs bro. Irritates the hell out of me. I fly from Miami to Rio to see family 11 hour flight or so. Economy is brutal. No leg room, cold temperatures, small tv, low quaility meals

Every summer I would always have to fly 13 hours to Taiwan to visit family in economy class and every time I would literally feel like dying. Until this one time I got to fly first class for 13 hours, and even though I couldn't sleep for some reason, it was 100000x easier. It was way more quite, you literally got some sort of custom headphones that literally cancelled the annoying loud airplane noises that woke you up every 20 minutes, literally you could order anything from a menu including fast foods, and I literally didn't want to sleep since there were so many features. So yes try economy class where your squished on the window seat fighting for an armrest against your sibling with literal prepackaged food, and the person behind you with there window open with the sun in your eyes.
I've only ever flown economy, and I couldn't imagine doing it for an extended flight. Even after 3 hours I'm impatient, its simply too crowded especially as someone with longer legs and the obesity problem in America.
Let’s be honest this was for the crew to see if they could handle it. The passenger experience wasn’t accurate at all. The plane would be full and with economy class
My longest flight so far was 17 hours 10 minutes (LA - Singapore) and the plane was totally full, I was in economy class with my husband, two small kids and pregnant being 6'1'' tall so fitting in the seat, sleeping and having space for legs was, well, kinda difficult. Honestly though, it was easier than I thought it would be although if I had conditions like what I see in the video, I could take this flight more often whereas for now I want to wait like a year or more before I do it again haha
Yeah, People will never do this if they are in coach class, with expensive and subpar meals, and an uncomfortable, stiff seats. This “test” really doesn’t make any sense
Clarinet Boy i watched another video that went into more detail a while ago, i think they said if qantas did go through with the plan they would only offer business class tickets, similar to singapore’s service from new york to singapore
*YOU IDIOTS THEY DONT HAVE FIRST CLASS ONLY BUSINESS CLASS. “DOMESTIC FIRST CLASS” is just business class in other places that isn’t The US or Canada.*
I feel this is a dangerous precedent to embark if this ends up being introduced to everyday commercial flight. Cool to study, but I wouldn't feel comfortable expecting a crew to work that long over time without some repercussions on the quality of their health.
@@greenearth975 My comment was coming off the recent Delta pilot strike this week, and the staffing issues airlines have. If the average commercial pilot is already strained due to a variety of reasons on part of the business end, I don't have hopes they treat this type of flight any better. I would love to be proven wrong if they truly have the staff and scheduling done right for this type of flight.
I’m a flight attendant myself and I fly transatlantic flights (currently working on a KLAX-LIFR flight), and on these flights we fly in widebody aircraft’s (primarily B777 & B787), and within these aircraft in the back of the plane we have crew quarters; we would usually have a four-six hour sleeping period depending on how long the flight is, and this is when you’re wrong. We’re never overworked on a flight due to the fact that we can sleep whenever our block (shift) is over during that time within the flight.
This must of been a terrible situation having to sit or fully lay back in a comfy lounge chair. No kids crying. Plenty of leg room. Food and not a freaking chicken sandwich. Terrible conditions.
@@OkamiAJ pilots still have things to do and still get fatigued even if they aren’t hand-flying. Even if autopilot is on, it’s bad news if the pilots doze off. There’s a backup pilot on these long-haul flights so the pilots can rotate and take rests.
Do you expect this flight to be realistic to anyone below the upper middle class? Long flights tend to be expensive. And I’m pretty sure all the seats on the plane will be business class because that would mean that there’s less seats available. Making it so that the plane has much less weight to worry about.
@Ecu Last Name man I would just watch all the movies from business or maybe if they have first class and then eat call Babushka for some cheeki breeki and be set
@@metrofilmer8894 That's a very ignorant thing to say. Once this goes commercial it's all about the money. This was merely a test with very few people actually on the plane. I'm sure you have the brain power required to understand the situation onboard when there are 350 people in there.
Flew Qantas from LA to Sydney a while back. Great service. But, the elephant in the room is obviously the fact they all had beds to sleep in. 20 hrs in economy is a hard stop.
Real test: -Economy seat, 19 hours -0 leg room -baby crying in the back/front -kid kicking back of your seat -the person who keeps the window opened on a bright ass day
I also think an important part is the plane being full and not being able to lean on either side the way you feel like. And also having your backpack under the chair in front of you for even less leg room is nice.
So turns out being able to sit in business class, having a seat that folds into a bed, and being able to freely move around and stretch makes a 20 [Any] hour flight bearable... Who would've thought.
With a flight like that, that plane can stay in the sky indefinitely for all I care, wouldn't mind being on it one bit 🤣 (well, of course, practicalities permitting!)
Yeah that’s true, however I’d still take that economy class flight over stopping for hours on another airport for a stopover. Whether I’m sitting in a plane or on the airport doesn’t matter to me but maybe that’s just me. It’s still great to shorten the time for a Europe to Australia flight this much
As long as there's a cozy atmosphere, amenities, and space to stretch, keep me on that plane. I'd rather be there than bored out of my mind accomplishing nothing at a busy airport terminal.
I genuinely wonder how people get picked to participate in these test flights. I wouldn't mind hopping on random flights to help test what it's like as a passenger
I've taken economy before on a 12 hour flight and back. Plus the 12 hour wait at the airport twice making it 2 days total. Trust me it sucked but hey free tv, free movies, free drinks, free food
I did the 17 hours from Sydney to Dallas and Dallas to Sydney, Economy in an A380 a few times now. Ive got arthritis and had knee surgery. I coped quite okay to be honest. The trip that i took to NYC that stopped in LA first felt like a nightmare to me. As an Aussie flyer to not have these layovers is awesome. Being so far from the ‘rest of the world’ has always been such a nightmare with tiny layover windows and trying to clear customs in time. I really like this idea.

Yall in the comments are so right. Like in two days, my family is going on a road trip and will be in the car for 13-ish hours straight and then the next day for about 8. Even 3 hours in a car is tough because you're eating fast food or gas station food, there's only so many activities to do in a car, and most families have cars that hold the amount of people in the family so if everyone is in the car, it's super crowded and you have no leg room *at all.* Not to mention the uncomfy sleeping. And don't get me started on the bathroom situations 🙄🖐
"50 people" Cool, now try it with a full plane. No room to walk around at all and one child that keeps screaming his head off for the full 20 hours. See how enjoyable that is.
they addressed this already. they specifically said you cant have a full flight or else the plane is too heavy to go that far. These flights would be smaller, more expensive flights
There is no feeling like leaving home at 2am with your family, and going to an airport in the middle of the night There is nothing like it, I just love airports at midnight
Unlikely the plane can’t make the flight with a full payload so seats will probably cost a lot meaning seats will be insanely expensive I’d say this flight will only really be used by business men and women who need to get there as quickly as possible without jet lag
Interesting because they already do all of these things for the flights from the West Coast of the US to Australia. I used to live in Los Angeles and Melbourne and flew many times between the two. The flights 15 hour flight to Australia always boarded at night, then they served you dinner around midnight, then all cabin lights went off and you went to sleep (finally because by then it was very late), then the crew opened all the windows, turned on the bright lights, served you breakfast and you landed. It was always easy for travel to Australia because they did that routine and got you onto the local Aus time during the flight. This was ten years ago and I flew Qantas and Virgin both.
@Shelby Floyd in the video he literally said “is bringing a flight like this to regular service possible? And would costumers even wanna be in the air” the answer is no, and this guy doesn’t know anything about economic class.

yeah i dont think that when these flights starts commercially any one will be getting such experience, this flight was as comfortable as staying at home
"test" A test with 50 people. A test where you could sit wherever you wanted pretty much. You got a business seat. You had a comfortable, fully reclinable seat. You had good food. You know what most people get? Economy. Economy isn't very comfortable, and all you're given is a seat that can only recline SLIGHTLY, and pretzels and Coke every hour. Meanwhile you could order gourmet shit. No wonder it wasn't hard on your body
With all that pampering, I'm not surprised the guy had no problems. The issue is that the vast majority of businesses out there require their non-executives to fly economy, and that is the majority of business travel. 19 hours in an economy seat that barely leans back is not what I would consider to be fun.

First Class: feels like a 5hr flight
Business Class: feels like a 8hr flight
Economy: feels like a 30hr flight
This test is flawed caused you, the journalist didn’t sit in economy for the 19hrs which 80% of the flyers will have to endure if they take this route.
Laura 10 hours is torture especially with the constant reducing space
This wasn't really a test, it's a publicity stunt
yea I wouldn't mind a 19h flight if I could afford to fly i first class with seats that could go all the way down..
Do parents with babies fly in first class or are they not allowed there?
Yeah, are they going to have coach beds? Seems unrealistic...and expensive.

I don’t think they considered the fact that most people would not be able to pay for a business seat. They should’ve tried the 19hr flight all of them cramped up in the economy class

Theo8176 {吴子轩} they could have just put all of the 40 passengers in a few rows to simulate being crowded or section off the plane to simulate it

@@sunkara8158 they shouldve said that at the beginning of the video tbh.
Why didnt he try in economy seats? Anyone can survive 19 hours with a tv, bed, gourmet food.

Oh and to add onto what you’re saying, our pilots are required to sleep during these periods, and they have their own crew quarter additionally.

They should have had a handful of people who didn't get to sit in business class. The results would probably be a bit different.

Most of those trips won't be 19 hours. Only executives fly from country to country.
@@Kevin-cy2dr Ha! I have flown to Denmark for work. And we have people in Japan, Brazil, Israel and Australia right now. And none of us are executives.
@@Kevin-cy2dr Your company doesn't fly any expats to foreign countries?
Is(/does) this flight have economy class though? Seeing how long the flight is, the easiest way to lower weight is to remove the lower classes of travel and just have fewer and more premium seats (with pricing to match)...
@@fetchstixRHD it's economy plus at lowest
Dude, I can't even adapt to a one hour daylight savings time shift. These people are magic.
They will end up doing what Singapore airlines did, make only business seats on that route.
Yep because none of us will buy cattle class on that flight, I had a flight booked from Melbourne to London via Singapore and they tried to shift me to the direct flight from Perth to London after my connecting flight to Melbourne was delayed, I told them where they could place that flight.

I once was in a car for 13 hours and we stopped twice, and a 6 hour car ride with no stopping. 19 hour flight any day, they slept for half the time and had a full on meal, tv, and meals

Well of course they’re gonna enjoy the flight and feel well rested because of that luxurious pampering. I flew from Sydney to LA on Quantas in 2018 and it was the worst flight of my life. I sat in the 3rd to last row and with two toddlers fighting next to me the whole time. They took my pillow and amenity kit too. And at night one of the children slept on my lap and the other one slept over my feet on the floor. These were just some random lady’s kids!

Xanax, eye cover and earplugs. You will sleep like a baby. I would also recommend 400mg Quetiapin if you have a tolerance for Xanax. Quetiapin will definitely put you to sleep whether you like it or not. My partner takes both. She is as helpless as a baby once she is asleep. Last years April fools I changed her clothes while she slept. Changing clothes on someone is actually cumbersome. Who knew? It was not as easy as changing clothes on a baby.
She knew just the right words to nuke that joke from orbit: "I trust you completely, honey". That is quite a turn on but it killed the joke.
Not sure what I will do this April fools. Think I will just skip it. That trust thing made me feel guilty. Maybe a joke when she is awake. Any ideas? Im thinking hot sauce.
