Oh Dan, I don’t think that any of us who are watching would dare to say that it’s just a few bricks. Not counting all the ups and downs on the ladders, stairs the winching, etc., it is one hell of an accomplishment even as of this point. Good job, Dan, and yes, you can say so yourself!
Totally agree
I have to be taken out of Canadian Tire by force... b/c they're more than just tires, they're my obsession and looking at tools/stuff is my drug 🤪(can't even walk near HomeHardware w/o getting a buzz) lol
Well said 😊👍🇨🇦🍾🥂
Dan, doing things on a budget is a thing, but a time out for some speciality tools would be a game changer!
Amen to that!
The wall and arch look amazing! I can understand why you are so chuffed with what appears such a small thing, but it's one of the pivots for the great turning points.
🇨🇦 Dan I expect you've got some serious ENVY for Amoury's shiny new cement mixer! You are doing a bloody lovely job! See ya tomorrow 🤪
🇨🇦
It's not just a few bricks Dan. It just the start of great things to come.
Dan, excellent job on the arch. All the little bits are bringing it altogether.
Cheers
I am enjoying your brickwork and seeing the restoration
You are an excellent cinematographer! So beautiful, interesting and a little scary! Bee thing was awesome.
It is the neatest thing to see you making your dreams come true. I feel privileged to be a tiny little part of it. 🧡
Every thing that you have done is awesome! The place was dying and now it is coming back to life! The old building is happy and coming to life! You have accomplished so much! Love and prayers vfrom Wyoming USA Robbie McVay and Sasha and mocha
The arch looks awesome mate. Love it. Not just a few bricks Dan. We are right there with ya, step by step, up and down. We get it. Oh that tarp situation lol. Time for it to come down now. Loving every step. Hugs from Australia.
Dan is doing an amazing job.
Bravo Dan. You are making amazing progress and your brick work is wonderful. Xxxx
It is awesome what you are doing! We are enjoying every brick of it!!!😊😊😊
V73: I so wish I could do good brick laying I CAN lay bricks but SOOO SLOWLY. My favourite videos are when you are REBUILDING things and building walls! IT IS A LOT getting a new wall rebuilt Dan well done!
Thanks for explaining the stairs. We just don’t want you to work harder then you need to AND steps seem safer then a ladder. Your arches are really nice looking.
You’re doing an amazing job… you are to be commended!… an enormous task for one man…. But you are proving… that with perseverance….. anything can be accomplished….. great job Dan!!!!!!… and kudos for having such a happy demeanour….. Bravo!!!!!!🙂❤️❤️👏🏻👏🏻
I m sure brico guys are very happy to see you every time you go there :)
It’s really starting to turn the corner. I love tuning in every evening to see what took place that day.
Doesn't Brico deliver huge orders? It'd save you vehicle.
It's really starting to come together again!
The stairway side of that little hallway looks properly iffy though, particularly the column in the middle! I'm not sure if the camera is deceiving but in the video it definitely looks like the third floor section of that column is leaning out into the stairway, and not just a little. The vertical crack by the left-hand bathroom door (visible around the ten minute mark) pales in comparison but you might still want to remove and rebuild that section of wall. Unfortunately that probably means removing the steels on the short side of the hallway. Or at least supporting the steels for the bathroom door opening with some acrows and rebuilding the cracked bit (probably more sensible than redoing it all).
The turret looks like it needs two floors, not only one. It's a pretty tall structure but it's going to be absolutely spectacular when it's done. The fourth floor windows should have amazing views, especially without the huge roof on.
When you do the arches, set the wood base on some wedges. Then when you remove the form, just knock the wedges out first and the form will drop down and it is easy to pull the form out to the side.
Great music yesterday and today. Great scene where you were spraying and we could see the outside.
It's looking great! I don't 100% get why you would knock down the brick floors if they are solid, but not my place to criticize. Keep up the good work! Its fun to watch the journey.
The steelwork looked past it's prime on the brick floors and they are an unusual shape, I think Dan is looking for a steel beams and block structure to stabilise the top of the walls and make it flat roof structure!?!
@@thomasherrin6798 I think he was talking about reinforced concrete beams (look up pictures, the system is called plancher hourdis in French), which are probably less heavy than steels.
The main reason for demolishing the ceiling is the poor condition of the wall it sits on and there's a large chunk of it missing anyway.
After you wire brush the steel, you can treat them with phosphoric acid. It converts the remaining rust into an inert layer so it won't rust again under the paint.
I'm guessing this project is long term. Absolutely no rush to finish this job you'll be an old man by the time your chateau is ready to live in..
Dan, are you committed to restoring the chateau to exactly what it was before the fire? Have you given any thought to modifying it at all to something that works for you and your future needs? Do you really need the turret? Wouldn’t it be safer, easier and less costly to just roof the third floor? It would still be a gorgeous chateau.
He mentioned a long while ago that one of the conditions of sale was that he build the exterior back to original.
What a Labor of Love !!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Wow! You're doing an amazing job!
I have noticed you have sitting on the job Dan 😅😅😅😅😅. Hope you get more of those. Also, why not get a cherry picker at some time. They come in handy. Maybe there are some indoor equivalents
Looking really great.
It does look much! So well done also.
Its more than just a few bricks. Its breathing life back into this beautiful old lady. I have been watching everyday.
It is beautiful dan.
Last week you almost lost me.
Fell head first into the garden.
I laid there for a while to see if anything was broken. Praise God, this old girl has strong bones. Kicked off my shoes an crawled out backwards. One slight sprained wrist an ankle.
Few days of rest and I am back.
🤣🤣🤣👍🏻🏋️♀️
❤🙏 I call that "aerobic gardening." Did that last year. The black eye was a talking point! Hope you're better.
Good to hear you made it Peggy!
you sound like a woman after my own heart Peggy. Hope you stop being sore quickly.
Wow ☹️… I’m so glad your ok … From a far off land … wishing you a speedy recovery … please be careful ❤
@@hmeyers5114 God Bless
I am fine. Thank you
Oh, that brick arch is so beautiful. I wish those people who say they wished your videos were longer would stop saying that. I think they are wrong. Your videos are so well edited. You get a lot done, but your videos don’t drag on and on. You do a great job. Good man❤
I absolutely agree with you, I am riveted to them every morning, love it! M. (NZ)
Agreed! I am getting tired of some of the chateau videos where they talk and talk and get little if anything done. Love Dan's for that reason!
I totally agree!
I also can’t wait for them to arrive to view. Dan, what a man is so right. Really enjoy the methodical way you tackle each job. You must be getting very calloused hands by now not wearing gloves that I know can sometimes impede the work. Keep safe and take care.
I agree. Short videos are great. I can’t cope with the fluff in other’s videos and I fast forward through them! Lol!
Don’t arches need a keystone? Wondering minds need to know..
WHAT!!! 170 thousand subscribers!!!! Thank you for making your positively fun chateau improvements, brick by brick. Congrats!!!😃
A little visit to the French countryside before lunch? Yes, please, delightful idea.
Excellent progress every day.😊
So not only rebuilding a chateau single handed, editing your posts, but managing to find humorous titles. I get worn out watching you, and so envy your energy and nerve, am addicted.
Dan is a natural and so likeable… so good to watch the progress…he’s got it all under control :))
I would LOVE to have half his energy and motivation. If only he had half my good sense and safety awareness!😅😅😅
Hi Dan if you had a lot more buckets with the handles standing up and you put a small grappling hook on the winch you could fill all the buckets with concrete and bricks then from the top just hook each bucket and winch it up without going down each time . Also why don’t you get a lorry load of sand delivered you r going to need it . Your doing a great job mate it is lovely building that deserves the love you are giving it well done best regards Andy from Felixstowe UK.
SO much progress already! I wouldn't even know where to start rebuilding a chateau in ruin like this. Your vision for this build is inspiring 🌟Thanks for sharing your process with us all. Just keep swimming!
Just like the old question.."how do you eat an elephant"?...
Answer..one bite at a time😂
@@julindahiggins1582 very true proverb. Dan is doing such a great job.
@@julindahiggins1582 love that! 😂 So true
This is gonna take a lot of bites 😳😳
Dan’s got this! He Can Do It!
The drone view makes it much easier for us at home to see the overall view of the house than the close-up views. It also confirms that the area you are working in is really the core of the entire structure and binds together all of what must be seven or eight or nine meter high spindly exterior walls with those tiny little metal beams holding together one entire wing on each of three sides of the house. Your dropping that one beam a few days ago could have brought down one whole side of the chateau. I couldn't have done it. You are a brave man, Charley Brown. Also, you have every right to be completely chuffed about what you have accomplished so far. Not bad for a cook, I'd say. That being said, perhaps an outdoor grill on the rooftop may not be such a bad idea after all. Hey, you already have enough smoke damage. Jack L.
The lack of temporary stairs makes sense now! I remember the local vendor coming to discuss the scaffold, too. But I had no idea is was going all the way the turret! Looking forward to seeing that all set up. And that arch looks remarkable.
My late husband used to say "the project isn't done until you have to make at least one unplanned stop at the builder's supply store!" You're in good company LOL.
Dan, you might want to start up a workout class and call it “Legs of Steel ala Chateau de Chaumont”. Only two or four hours a day needed for the summer of 2023. As with most workers in France, it will be up to you to provide lunch at the end of the "class"/shift along with a fresh cool beer, that alone might entice a few volunteers. Start off small with one person mixing the cement and watering down the bricks, one to hoist up the buckets and you laying the bricks. Of course, volunteers will need to sign a statement of liability and you will need to be swapping out their workouts for a full body experience, heck it might even become so popular that people might pay you for the chance to climb those ladders 20 times in a session. You never know, see ya tomorrow.
Brilliant idea!
I cant tell you how inspirational this is. You've caught onto something here, and I implore you to keep it going. The other channels are good, but this is very special; one man, climbing a mountain, clearly a grafter, and seemingly unstoppable. I love it
What's a grafter?
@@kmarch6630 someone who works hard regardless of obstacles
@@kmarch6630 A hard worker
I definitely agree with Mark, there are other channels but I really like watching your channel and your sense of humor makes my day. You have a beautiful family, I love seeing them too.
You're quite right, Dan. That arch and rebuilt wall are so very encouraging and satisfying to see.
Wetting of bricks assists in removing the dirt, sand and dust from them. Further, it prevents the suction of water from wet mortar, as otherwise mortar is likely to dry out soon and crumble before attaining strength.
Well-made clay bricks should never require wetting before laying except (rarely) under extremely hot and windy conditions.
I had no idea and wondered about this. Thank you for sharing. This is why I read the comments. 😊
@Rod Roper did you see the trees swaying up there, and the sunshine?
Hey thanks , that’s awesome👍
Never saw that before on any construction job so I looked it up. It's an old school technique, impossible to use on big jobs, but fine for small work by individuals like this.
One man, 100 bricks, a Chateau and 170k+ people cheering you on! ❤
you are doing an amazing job im an ex builder i very much enjoy watching you restore this chateau, keep up the great work
I watch more RUclips than I should .. but… you my friend have a great set of supporters. Love what your doing. Cheers.
Your doing a brilliant job! I didn’t really expect it to stay standing. Leaps x bounds and it’s still up!! You got this, Dan.
Shouldn't that be Misanthropic?
Definitely not " just a few bricks". It looks to me like small miracles being done day by day.
Keep up the great work! I'm really looking forward to seeing the entire rebuild.. brick by brick by bloody brick..
Be safe Dan.. you've got this!!
👊🏼😎🤘🏼
I'd be taking a strimmer up with me. The Hanging Garden of Babylon would drive me nuts - all those roots and leaves in my face. You have tolerance, Dan!
I can't help it....I just smile every time I see Dan accomplish another day at the Chateau! This has got to be the most satisfying vlog to watch! Thank you Dan!
That smile on your face says it all, Dan. Congratulations on one more step forward. 👏😊🌈
The rebuilds are looking STUNNING!!! 🥰🎶❤️🌻🦋🌺🏡
A pallet of bricks and a dream.
Picture that on a t-shirt with a line drawing of the chateau. I'd buy it.
Hope that you can feel us all crowding around you, watching and not feeling lonely up there on your own.😊❤
You keep saying 'it doesn't look like much has been done ' to me it looks like a massive amount of work that you have done alone. You have built what three floors already? I am impressed ! Your brick work looks so good. I'm thrilled I along with everyone else get to witness you putting this lovely lady back together again. Take care and get some rest. I'll see you tomorrow!
It’s amazing Dan! The other thing is you’re very good at doing the filming and the music is perfect! I have noticed others following your style 😉👍
Yes, Billy 😉.
I love that you gave us a drone shot from outside looking in to the Arch. I was in my happy giddy place! so cool Dan.
I knoooow ❤🙌😇 same here
I am a little old lady from Idaho,US, been loving every minute of watching you play in the mud. Ha! I've loved it all. My husband and I rebuilt a couple places but not in brick. It is like medicinal every brick. Keep it up please, but don't overwork your body. Imagine, your mind creates it and the work of your hands produces it , it comes to life in your hands. I love it. Laurie
Yes, I will second Paul Bombardier's comments! You have shown wisdom in listening to your subscribers, with their own expertise - helping you even though so many of us are thousands of miles away:( We do appreciate all of your tenacious work and ethos! Well done, Daniel:)
I’ve seen you water bricks twice now, have you managed to get them to grow yet!!😂 love what your doing, keep up the hard work
They're definitely multiplying
If I've had a rubbish day, watching your video is the best tonic ever.
I am continually surprised at the amount of work ahead for you. It is a hell of a commitment, for years ahead especially as you are alone. Goodness. Glad you are loving what you are doing. Best wishes.
So enjoying your progress every day. Dan I wish I had the means and the time to come over to France and help you out for a couple of months. Cheers man from Canada 🇨🇦
Another great video. Just watching the progress is amazing. The arch is absolutely beautiful! Brick by brick your dream is coming true and will truly be something to be proud of. Lots of work to be sure. Stay safe.
Don't ever say its just a few bricks. What it is is your own grit and determination moving you forwards consistently. I love each and every episode and Dan you are the man who can. Your vlogs are the very best part of my day.
Thanks you Dan give life back to this old lady (the chateau). You are saving a part of the French Historical Patrimony. Is there a possibility to obtain the château will be listed on the inventaire supplémentaire des monuments historiques (as an historical building). After that you could get some help from the government (subventions and taxe reduction).
Thank you Dan to save a witness a French history.
You have done such a great job with the arches and walls🎉
Your making HUGE progress!! I love the brickwork and am excited to see a roof on that section of the Chateau. Truth be known the Château is loving you for putting so much loving kindness in to make it beautiful again. ❤
This is all great but are the old crumbly brick walls stable enough to take the weight of the new bricks? Just curious.
Beware of the hornets nest under the balcony with the free standing doorframe
Well spotted!

Just wow! You and your chateau are really rocking it!
Please, please do a call out for a working bee, there are so many people ready to donate there time to help and have fun at the same time. C.R. 🎉
So you should be happy Dan! the little bits that 'don't look much' are all progress and heading in the right direction🎉
We definitely can see daily improvements. It’s quite remarkable. Stay safe.
🍔🍟 speaking about making a run for supplies! You're doing such a marvelous job Dan. Thanks for taking the time to share with us your viewers.
Doing such an incredible job Dan brick by brick. Loving the arch and an excellent design decision.
Just think Dan.....When all is complete, and every time you walk under this arch you can smile and think back ...."when I built this I could look up and see the beautiful sky"..... cool huh? 😊......not to mention it looks awesome!!
I just discovered this channel and have been binge watching the renovation of the chateau. I applaud your desire to make the brickwork look good. It may take a little longer but there's nothing like the "satisfaction of a job well done." It looks great!
Another brick in the wall😊 All good👌 Just bringing the canisters of water to the Chateau is a job in itself.
I hope you will continue to feel the pride that everyone has for you Dan, you have done an amazing job. The brickwork looks good too. Well done 💕🇦🇺
🧱👏🏰 Dan, let me assure you that none of us watching would underestimate the immense effort and accomplishment it takes to work with those bricks. From climbing ladders and stairs to the meticulous winching, it's a challenging task that deserves recognition. Great job, Dan! You can proudly acknowledge your hard work and dedication! Keep us curious and amazed! 💪🔨👷♂
Alright Dan, I’m loving watching your progress on this renovation. I’m a bit late to the party so I may have missed you talking about this. Have you had a structural engineer look at the building and tell you what can stay and what needs to go?
I’m worried that you are building some beautiful bits like the arch only to be told you have to knock the whole thing down because it isn’t stable and safe.
Beautiful country side around the chateau. Arch looks stunning. Blessings.
Wow u rock Dan You're getting so much done so fast It's like going by so quick Next you'll be walking out on that little patio LOL ❤ 👏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾👌🏾
That brick arch and bit of wall structure is a beautiful thing!
You are a master brick layer even if untrained! Now I see why no stairs yet.
Love watching how much you love bringing this chateau back to life!
Fantastic work Dan. Honestly watching you gives me a kick in the pants to get stuff done! Thanks for the motivational videos....my jobs a miniature compared to yours! Watching your daily post is my reward for getting a task done. ☺️
See ya tomorrow
The brick work you’ve done looks GREAT. What a difference it has made. 😊
It’s more than a few bricks Dan, it’s another big step forward, the arch looks great. Take care 🌸
Welding gloves, your hands will get mangled!!!

This is fun!!
That’s a beautiful arch Dan. We are all going to be arch building experts before this is completed.
I bet they know you well at Brico.
See ya tomorrow.
Impressive progress on this remarkable project. Good Job, Dan.👏
Hello Dan, don't know if you read comments but the wall going up is like a magical thing to see emerging from all the chaos. The Arch is lovely and I can see you are pleased and you should be. Well Done! Carol in Nova Scotia
I bet you're really bored of the eating the elephant analogy and the brick-wetting questions by now, eh 😄
😬
@@escapetoruralfrance I don't know how you do it. I lose my patience so quickly. I wouldn't be able to resist snippy sarcastic responses. But that's why you're making videos and not me ... well, one of hundreds of reasons.😅
Dan I am impressed. Well done. Crack on with your next project. 👍🏻
