@@thomasherrin6798 At the very least Dan will have to pin up the sides of the tent & pin up the sides of the tent and only burn in the middle, not the very edges and have a coupe of buckets of water ready to douse any errant flames. Then he can paint the very edge of the platform in an oil-based water proof paint, along with the outside edges and the edges of the insulation to waterproof the bit on the outside as well. He could even paint the lower portion of the lattice work that touches the platform for extra measure. The yurt is beautiful!!!

Look at his body language each time s task is completed, especially if it was a substantial effort!
That feeling of mastery after having learned and improved on very useful skills can be enough, and Dan is also literally building his future! All the effort put in now, while he is young, healthy, motivated and able, will make his life so much easier as age starts to catch up. He will no doubt train the boys to build and husband the resources, so there should be a slow and steady rise of the property value.
Dan gets to put walls where he wants them, even if it was done differently before the fire, instead of replicating traditions that no longer make perfect sense. Then it'll be time to decorate to his taste, and he has proven excellent at that, already.
In a couple of years he will live in his dream home, safe and practical, with income from guests and content production, establishing his sons' heritage and his own legacy.

Great work! That's more flooring than any other traditional Yurt would have had. My fathers one has been sitting on flat tarped soil for over 18yrs. Very similar to his in all aspects really. The Yurt itself is quite traditional in build up, color and ornate detailing. Where (like his) it differs from that is in the overall diameter (a traditional one is 5m across), the second door(normally it would just be the 1 entrance door), the glass in the door (it would otherwise be windowless), and most likely the Plexiglas windows in the dome with a cutout for the stack (it would traditionally be half open and covered by the flap on top if need be).
There's a whole lot of traditional religious elements in them as well if you choose to adhere to them. There's always a handsaw above the door in between the roof beams and the cloth with the teeth facing the door to keep out bad spirits. You would normally have only the one door open, never 2 as it would allow spirits to pass through. The centre rope is tied to a big rock (you have plenty) and the end tucked away as a endless knot. In case of a big windy storm have the front door and top flap open, It will allow the wind to pass through. The rock will allow for some movement (I've witnessed it as a whole being slightly lifted, its impressive) but will keep the center dome down and prevent damage. You would again traditionally enter in a right circle going around the centre where on your right side you would find the kitchen area, center back a seating area and on the left the sleeping and washing area. And the last one I know of; with the centre being the centre point of energy (literally with the stove being there) you don't pass through the centre 2 uprights as to not disturb that energy. There's even thought in the Kris cross pattern and knotting of the wall but I'm not to sure of that one. As i said earlier the heat management is amazing in them, with a good centre stove everything revolves around them; cook, eat, bake bread etc. Quite amazing structures really, very peaceful to live in. Any way that's all I know!

Back in the '50s, my parents turned a carport into a "boys' room" and we had plywood walls prepared with a torch, just as you are doing. With a coat of varnish over the "charred" surfaces, it looked GREAT!! No one else had anything like it, either.
