    You inspire me Dan. I'm 70, a woman, can't walk or carry things, live alone, 4 pets, family is all passed away but I keep going. Only have a guy to mow for me and edge. I was fixing my fence while on my walker and saw a snake. It was friendly and kind of cute. Last night I opened the door to let a cat in and it was a raccoon and she almost came in! My dog said no. I have foxes, squirrels, birds and a groundhog. I live in a city by the Chesapeake Bay. I keep on a bit at a time just like you. On George Clarks Amazing Places he visited a 93 year old man in Spain building a cathedral by himself. It took him 30 years to do the dome. It is huge! If he can do that ....he could use some help though. 93!!!

      What an amazing life you have! It sounds like you are surrounded by animals. I'm surrounded by animals as well. Kookaburras, magpies, blue tongue lizards, possums, chickens, etc. My cat has even been known to sunbake with the chooks(chickens) and last year decided to be the fun uncle to a twin pair of baby possums. Shadow (cat) would watch over the baby possums while their mum ate fruit I had put out for her. Then once the mum was full he would play tag with the babies while she sat and watched. The mum and my cat often sit within a foot of each other in winter. He guards the mum as she eats and has chased other possums away when they try to pinch the mummy possums apple. As the twin babies grew up they learnt to play tag on my corrigated iron roof (think thunder paws) and the mum showed them where I put food out in winter. The best fun was seeing them play hide and seek by climbing the 6 foot tall picket fence and hiding in the vines that grow over it. They then pop out at any possum or the cat.
      Im 41 next month, disabled and unable to work full-time so I spend my time doing the things I enjoy working on. I love many crafty habits like making beaded jewellery, crochet, colouring in, making cards and handmade presents. They are my therapy.
      Your description of a man in his 90's building a cathedral makes me want to watch him working and to be a pest with all the questions I know I'd have. My maternal grandfather was a carpenter who built houses in and around Sydney and Wollongong (in Australia). Since childhood I've been fascinated by how buildings are put together and spent many summer days watching my dad build sheep shearing sheds in southern New South Wales. When we visited Granddad we would go to see his latest project or go visit with people who were living in the houses he built. I realised he was making sure the owners were happy with the completed house and that no little issues arose as the building settled into the environment.
      Blessings to you and all the creatures, Dot

      Lime mortar, with which the Chateau is built, crumbles far more easily than modern cement mortar. However, that is not necessarily a bad thing. The worst thing that you could do to such an old structure would be to use cement mortar.

      @sabalight2558 Год назад +11

      @@Ruhrpottpatriot But the new mortar, that Dan is using to rebuild walls, seems pretty solid, and from the old mortar, it seems that there is only crumbeling sand left.
      Why does it make sense to rebuild solid walls high above on 8 meters crumbeling base ?

    I know you want to restore the Chateau to its original design and beauty but can you redesign it to just make it easier on yourself? Just make the walls safe and get a roof on it. Make it liveable as soon as possible. Have it closed in by winter. Board up the doors and windows. Get a wood stove for heat. No need to build a cabin. Build an out house. Or at least get one room completely liveable. Winter will be here before you know it. 🥶

    Please use a regular polycarbonate face shield when using a grinder.The welding hood is plastic or pressed fiber. It will not even try to stop a cutting blade. A polycarbonate face shield is meant to at least give a chance to stop a broken blade or maybe stop an accident.
    I am a longtime metal fabricator, steel fitter, iron worker and a ship fitter. A proper face shield works. Also you only have two eyes. That it. There is no getting back your vision.

      I do not fault him, he seems to be using good judgement with a safety harness, scaffolding and taking advise.
