Hey Dan! Yea that pillar that's "supporting" that turret, looks really scary! Perhaps, for now, just stick something like a block of wood or a brick, in that hole, to give it some extra, temporary, support, so that it doesn't try to come down on you whilst you're trying to tackle it?!?!
My thinking exactly, put something in there before you leave, tomorrow could look a lot different if it leaned the wrong way. And more freaking work design to rebuild it back
Scary, man. I’d try to take a short piece of I beam like you just cut, wedge it under the sagging brick course in the column, tuck point any crack above it, then jack the other end of the I beam until that course of bricks is straight, then lay brick on either side of the beam and let everything set. Then remove the beam and brick the hole.
@@michellebyrom6551 This is the exact section of wall that had me worried for weeks. I don't care about the other walls, old mortar and minor frost damage, who cares? They're still pretty plumb and straight by old house standards, who cares? This is the bit that looks properly precarious, far more than anything else in this place! Close second is probably what's left of the basement ceiling.
A fellow commenter, KMM, wrote above that Dan is not alone in at least some of the video shots. At 1:50, 1:57, 2:08, 2:16, you can see camera person in black shorts, white T-shirt, in left side of video.

Pfew. That turret wall is looking very unstable. Now that I see you taking down the rest of that line of wall, I am understanding your plan (the drawing helped, but I didn't have the orientation right). You are going to have it waterproof in no time now. Amazing. You are so smart. 🧡

I love the shape of the top arch. One day it would be nice to repeat it as archways in a garden. I think you are making great progress. I do think a major milestone will be when there is nothing growing out of the chateau. Looking forward to it.👍
I think that the next time you go to the dump, you should get 4 of the largest cleanest mattresses to protect the lower floor in case of any mishaps. You can always take them back when you finish. It's free, and safe.
@@cathleencumpton779 I was talking about the new plywood getting damaged by either large stones, granite trim, or sections of the tower falling. I've been in construction for 41+years.
He will be replacing that OSB. No way it's going to survive what's coming. IMHO he should have used planks. No place for OSB in a chateau. Witness the plank flooring in the "bee" bathroom. Survived a fire and 50+ years of exposure and still tough as nails. Put OSB through all that and see what you get...mushy pulp

Well done. It’s all happening. From gloves to solid floors, in the very near future. You are just cruising! Wow. You are cracking one at the rate of knots. Go Dan go!
What an epic transformation to document Dan; the research and pre planning, acquiring historical and safety approvals, your creativity and vision, and your utter grit to make it happen all on your own for the most part, being smart and seeking professionals when needed/required. Well done!
Love the demolition!! I know you want to restore the Chateau to its original design and beauty but can you redesign it to just make it easier on yourself? Just make the walls safe and get a roof on it. Make it liveable as soon as possible. Have it closed in by winter. Board up the doors and windows. Get a wood stove for heat. No need to build a cabin. Build an out house. Or at least get one room completely liveable. Winter will be here before you know it. 🥶
My thoughts aswell , the building‘s design seems quite symmetrical in the lower parts - a classic roof situation , maybe less floors - means less stability problems ? I‘m too concerned to watch any longer - the torret - beam construction will lose me .
You coming all the way how many years you’ve been doing that one? It’s very tiring but man you did it. I don’t even believe it will come in all this year to that today. God bless you and keep you safe and we receive this done. Love seeing the progress Dan. It's a lot of work for sure. If it was me, I'd cut a couple pieces off the iron beams, bolt them together and place under that empty space of the tower bricks for a temporary hold. ❤😊
I really mourn for the chateau and the way it used to be. So much wanting you to manage to bring it back to its former glory! You are truly amazing Dan ! Strength to your arm !
Hi, every time I see the state of the mortar in those walls I ask myself the question how in the name of hell is this building still upright ? Clearly no earthquakes in France then ……
@@gabriellechamberlain7228 Yes , they only way that building would get rebuilt here is with a steel skeleton inside, I have friends who did that to a heritage building in Lyttleton , it survived the Feb earthquake enough to save the inhabitants but in the end had to be demolished, - it was the old Library / fire station if you know it.
Dan, I’ve watched you work on you chateau ruin every day. It’s coming along bit by bit. I can’t wait for your friend to come back to help!! Please use a regular polycarbonate face shield when using a grinder. The welding hood is plastic or pressed fiber. It will not even try to stop a cutting blade. A polycarbonate face shield is meant to at least give a chance to stop a broken blade or maybe stop an accident. I am a longtime metal fabricator, steel fitter, iron worker and a ship fitter. A proper face shield works. Also you only have two eyes. That it. There is no getting back your vision.
@@alipalix we only know what we know. Not everyone has worked in dangerous environments. The idea is to teach the basics and learn. Getting angry with someone who doesn’t know does not help. I am sure that when someone helps him by bringing it to his intension he will hopefully change his ways. I do not fault him, he seems to be using good judgement with a safety harness, scaffolding and taking advise. The proper grinder guard for cutting metal is actually different than surface grinder. It is closed of on both sides to isolates from metal splinters

Sounds like a good plan
I would have wedged a piece of old beam or ti.ber in, just to calm myself thar it will stillbe there tobe fixed tomorrow.
@@michellebyrom6551 That's exactly what I was thinking.
WOW, this episode is very scary. I don’t know how you can do the work single handed and produce such great videos at the same time. Awesome! 🙏❤️
Human Jenga!!
A fellow commenter, KMM, wrote above that Dan is not alone in at least some of the video shots. At 1:50, 1:57, 2:08, 2:16, you can see camera person in black shorts, white T-shirt, in left side of video.
Another heart in mouth episode. How many lives is he dicing with. I only wish there was someone there with him. Solo working seems to suit him but it’s surely not safe. Hey ho! I wish him well, he works hard.
Today there was somebody with him. (A man is filming from the ground floor, you can see him around 1:50 to 2:20.)
He said quite some time ago that his whole process on this thing was being filmed for British TV. They're certainly not there every day, but they check in every so often to get updates on his progress.
I’m obviously too invested in watching his feet and balancing act to notice anyone being there. I’m so pleased to read there is another person at least some of the time. Thanks.
You are amazing! I cannot thank you enough for the will power you show here and it is contagious!! Frankly you help me to get out of bed in the morning because if you can do it then I should at least try.
Holy cow.....that pillar is really scary!! Hoping you can get that sorted out before the wind blows it over. Can't wait to see tomorrow's progress.
It literally breaks my heart to see the charred remains of what was once a beautiful building. It is so brave of you to restore it and also very dangerous to do the things you are doing. The mortar is crumbling, mother nature is attempting to claim it, and you are so talented and crazy brave. Love watching and am so anxious for the completed restoration.
I just discovered I can hold my breath for around ten minutes
😂
I love watching these massive undertaking. It makes my projects seem like a walk in the park!
Glad you noticed the turret . The building is a miracle to be upright in most cases which says it’s meant to be.
It's not a turret. It's a tower. A turret is almost always round or octagonal and has a conical roof.
Now that's some really good positive thinking. Post more as it comes to you. Helps to balance the naysayers who continue to watch anyway.
Pfew. That turret wall is looking very unstable. Now that I see you taking down the rest of that line of wall, I am understanding your plan (the drawing helped, but I didn't have the orientation right). You are going to have it waterproof in no time now. Amazing. You are so smart. 🧡
And the wobbly trestles just add to the suspense......
Plus courageous and incredibly athletic.
I believe 150K of us (your subscribers) would just love to walk through your gates and say “ where do we start to help!”
Dan can invite the hole chat. Maybe some will stay with hammer and gloves in front his chateau.?
I watch for your video every day now. You make me feel lazy and you are amazing Dan. Please be safe. I want to see this finished and see you sipping on champagne in your very own chateau. All the best to you Sir.
100 % Progress. Like you said before, with the concrete flooring out, it will relieve the walls a bit with the weight.
Thanks for sharing your day. 😀
Hi dan The Man you are fantastic for your passion keep on one brick at at a time cant wait when done we are going to celebrate here in florida with your fans !
Dan Dan the chateau man! Watching you knock down those bricks was very satisfying. We are moving right along. Hope that wall holds till tomorrow 😬. Looking good Dan.
Put a brick it in ( the tower wall), a wood board, a piece of steel...Anything! For support...hope it holds! We'll find out...as Dan says, t'morrow.
Dan, you are such a hard worker!! Glad to know that you are not alone when working on site. I caught your camera man playing peek-a-boo! If you pause at 1:50, 1:57, 2:08, or 2:16, you can see a camera man wearing black shorts and a white tshirt standing in the lower left of the screen.
It's not "his" cameraman. He mentioned some time ago that he's being filmed for British TV. They're not there every day. Based on when they're seen, I'd say they check in every few weeks to see his progress.
@@Sgirl black shorts and white tshirt....isn't it just Dan ?
We must be looking at different films....I only see Dan.
I keep holding my breath when watching you work… it’s Scary 😱🙏🏼💪🏼💪🏼👏👏🇸🇪
I love watching you bring this beautiful chateau back to its former glory. You are amazing and doing it pretty much alone except for brief help now and then can't wait to see it finished.
Rather concerned about that turret... seriously worrisome... I hope you can get that all stabilized soon. Be safe!
Wow!! You are so awesome (re) building a castle! All by yourself, make it even more badass!! This is going to be total bragging rights for your sons!❤❤❤😊
Let's hope his sons have more than just these videos to remember him by.
He and Cat already pulled up all the tiles and set them aside. 😊
Dan get a square flat shovel to clear your floors. Such an interesting build. Honestly I don't know how you are figuring all this out but it's so fun to watch. Go Dan.
Dan you inspire me….when I am working and I think I cannot do any more….I think of you….the old girl is smiling….so happy for her and you.
Forward motion is everything! Well done!! That is a massive job! Breaking it into workable tasks is the way to go!
You would be very surprised how strong a hearty shrub is to tie off to. It’s not an uncommon practice when doing multi pitch climbing. It is makes you feel any better. Been loving the series!
Great episode with a well matched soundtrack. What a beautiful and satisfying day. It is enjoyable to watch you savor the moment, brick by brick.
Well done!
Glad to see you are tied to that tree while dumping the wall and stuff down. Great progress.
STRESSFUL. You have got this Dan. This episode gave me a panic attack😳
That was a beautiful opening!
You coming all the way how many years you’ve been doing that one? It’s very tiring but man you did it. I don’t even believe it will come in all this year to that today. God bless you and keep you safe and we receive this done. I never contraction in my life, but you let me make, loving it and have fun with it too when you feel sick when you’re gonna take the Friday off and Saturday and Sunday, I will be so mad but man, I love you take care of yourself and the dog
Dan... your great attitude is everything!
Love seeing the progress Dan. It's a lot of work for sure. If it was me, I'd cut a couple pieces off the iron beams, bolt them together and place under that empty space of the tower bricks for a temporary hold. ❤😊
I see what you saw in this building
I love the colour ‘bricks/stone/the shape
Your doing an amazing job
I really mourn for the chateau and the way it used to be. So much wanting you to manage to bring it back to its former glory! You are truly amazing Dan ! Strength to your arm !
When Nature decides to reclaim something she does a damned good job of it.
Always amazes me.
You are making steady progress, which is what hooked me watching.
Hi, every time I see the state of the mortar in those walls I ask myself the question how in the name of hell is this building still upright ? Clearly no earthquakes in France then ……
Yes I'm in NZ too and earthquakes are frequently on my mind while watching Dan.
@@Chris-NZ Up in Northland we don't get earthquakes either. We can expect a "big one" of 4.8
@@timwilliscroft9615 The winterless north, worked up there on and off for a decade in the 80's, liked the winter best , not so many tourists 😀
Yep, same with all the porcelain standing up on display at La Lande, it would be toast here.
SO dang "overwhelming" amount of work that needs to be done!...Just Crazy!.....BIG Props on all the small steps you are doing!
Oh mi Dios!! Eso está muy inestable y peligroso!! Debes apuntalarlo cuanto antes y reforzarlo!!! Gran capitulo!!!✌🤞
oh my god!! That is very unstable and dangerous!! You must prop it up as soon as possible and reinforce it!!! Great chapter!!!
Dan, I’ve watched you work on you chateau ruin every day. It’s coming along bit by bit. I can’t wait for your friend to come back to help!!
I’ll had to fast forward today, because I am afraid of heights, and seeing you up there makes me so anxious for you!! Keep up the good work, and I pray God is watching over you!
I do so enjoy my daily fix of your progress. Your positivity and humour give me a lift. Can't wait to see the floors back and the roof started.
Wow amazing how crumbly the walls are and very dangerous. Great work Dan one shovel at a time , Dan the Man 🐨🥰
Scary but fantastic job Dan.
You're my hero. You are doing it. Keep going. Every problem has a solution. You don't have to do it all, just do the next thing. It's fun watching your work.
Glad to see the trees going looking better every day
Dan, get some help.. that is overwhelming! Be safe! I admire your positivity.. it must be hard some days.
That pillar is scary. I'm not sure I'd have continued working on the steels until that was fixed. Looking forward to the next video, keep up the good work!
How do you not crap your pants every day? 😂 Discovering the column is being held up with good intentions is scary. 😮
How do we know he doesn't?

Haven't seen an outhouse yet? I guess just digging a hole he is on a vision quest after all!
😂😂😂
Mad dogs... and Englishmen...
You are a superhero man, that’s a lot of work, as more you do, more comes out! 😮
Keep your artful video 📹going. Thankyou for this amazing work
Precariously balanced at the top of a house of cards. Eeeeek! You are either really brave or a risk taker, maybe some of both!
Love your filming and editing. Really scary how fragile that wall looks now that you took the metal beams out. Stay safe. Glad Calvin is coming to help. See ya tomorrow 😍😘
Plan B: Bungalow Chateau? Scary how easily those bricks fall away! Epic drone shots today❤
My goodness, please be careful. This looks very dangerous.
I’ll be glad when you’re back to working on the lower levels. It’s scary seeing you tied to a tree that’s just growing out of a wall. How you manage to keep so upbeat is beyond me but keep up the good work and stay safe.
Oh my goodness, I don’t know how some parts of the chateau’s still standing, even the bricks don’t seem to have anything holding them together. Please stay safe, we don’t want the turret landing on your head x
You’ve got this Dan. Rest well.
I mentioned in the last video about that collapsing pillar. Looks extremely dicey and a must if you want to shore up that last floor will probably need a large beam across that gap as well.
You are the bravest soul I've ever seen. That place is beautiful but it's also terrifying.
Progress everyday - amazing work - so exciting. Keeps me watching to see what comes next!!!!
That arch looks very scary indeed, I hope you can save it.
You should use the old tarp as a debris chute.
I love that chateau more every single day. No way I would not have fallen off something by now. Be safe.
Oh God Dan that was all super scary. We will all feel much better when you’ve secured the pillar and strengthened those wobbly walls. But you are doing amazing work ❤
I commend you for working in such precarious places and heigths. I am literally clinching my fist in fear of you falling. I am only assured you have not fallen and hurt yourself because you were able bodied enough to edit the vlog and launch it for us to view your bravery. Good on you!. LOL
Oh 🥰 I loved the opening! I could imagine walking out onto the balcony to admire that view. Took my breath away. Beautiful. Then you went to work and you took my breathe away again but not in a good way! I was holding my breathe hoping you didn’t take a tumble. Good work and I look forward to the next installment. TFS
You are out of your everloving mind!! (Can't stop watching,)
I am so happy you are having helpers. Been praying for you that you will get some helpers.
This was a tense, stressful episode to watch, Dan! Happy for the progress, but use great care!!
You accomplished so much in one day. Keep it up. You are strengthening the inner core of the building. Soon you will be able to branch off into other rooms.
Dan, it looks like you've been working on that 'controlled descent' technique of yours. I'd say it's paying off. Lowering that beam seemed much more controlled compared to the bath tub manoeuvre recently. Keep it up! 👍
