  • There can’t be many of us on this Earth who haven’t heard of the likes of Rolex and Patek Philippe, and so it’s understandable that the sheer volume of traffic these brands get results in the understanding that they are the very best in the world. Don’t get me wrong, they’re good-very good-but there are others out there that can match and even exceed them. Here’s one of them, the H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Perpetual Calendar-and it just might be the best watch you’ve never heard of.

    H. Moser is outstanding ... simply beautiful. Rolex by no means is up there as "haute horologie" when you start comparing them to brands like H. Moser, ALS, or even JLC. Though, I will give Rolex the nod for building an extremely robust movement and watch that can accompany you to the office, to the tennis court, biking, beach, diving, etc, etc. Extremely reliable watches, but Rolex isn't in the same league as H. Moser and others.

As a watchmaker, I find much of the advertisement to be hype. Yes, the watch may keep great time but from what I see in the advertisement, there is nothing essentially important about their play on the perpetual calendar because it isn't really perpetual or it could change with respect to the leap year on its own. Hype is the key word anyway in the watch industry. They give no idea of the cost of the watch in comparison to well known expensive watch brands.

    • @Ridewithjst

You should follow Moser on here and Instagram. They may not have reinvented the wheel, but they are breathing fresh life into it, whether it's manufacturing, design, engineering, aesthetics, joint ventures (eg MB&F), or marketing, Moser is special, and considering you can get a very special Moser for $20k +/-, I mean, that's less than some steel Rolex sports watches and way less than a Nautilus or Royal Oak, and you'll be the happy new owner of a far more unique piece

Great watch without a doubt, but...why must they sign the watchface in script that looks like it escaped from a corny rhyme in a cheap greetings card?
In the effort to look individual, too many watchmakers are resorting to naff signatures. Christopher Ward is another case in point - that looks as if it was reproduced from a John Bull Printing Outfit (remember those?)
Does this matter? Yes, because the watch's wearer has to look at it every time it's on the wrist and this one would irritate he hell out of me.
Any chance of you doing a feature on this (comparatively) trivial subject?

There’s plenty of watches out there that are much better than the top named brands and at a tenth of the cost. If you like the look of a watch, it tells the time the same as any other watch and it’s accurate, then that’s the best watch for you. Rolex, Omega etc etc just gives you bragging rights or the ‘look at me’ effect. It doesn’t matter if it’s mechanical, quartz or tuning fork (which I think are amazing) if it’s what you like that will do.

What makes a watch the best? It’s not a particularly cynical question but is it the aesthetic (which I presume is fairly easily copied); is it the time keeping quality (mechanical versus electronic - and just how accurate do we really need a watch to be - 1 second a day? 1 second a year?); it can’t be the brand appeal because surely, that’s not quality. Talking heresy, if I had a super clone whatever; it would have the aesthetic of the real brand (I read so that only a real expert could tell) and it was reliable enough to keep time as good as most people would need, would that make it equally the best watch?
If you take cars, most cars get us from A to B. Some cars do it in really luxury. A few do it quicker than most of us need. So what makes the best car in the world? I have a Ford. It’s element of comfort; it’s speed etc. All meet my needs. Given its cost, does that make it the best car in the world for me? Would a similar Skoda, Toyota etc. Be equally good? Certainly.
Is it personal choice; personal aesthetic; personal requirements?
I’d genuinely like to read from people their understanding of what makes any watch the best watch in the world for anyone and everyone

This is the only channel that gives these luxury watches justice in showcasing how brilliant they are as a piece.

If the designers and engineers at A. Lange and H. Moser somehow could collaborate. Now I have to save for two watches.

We just did a collaboration with MB&F. Collaborating with Lange would be amazing. lot of respects for that brand.

@@heinrichmoser6691 The result is magnificent. Two pieces of art, modern approach to watchmaking. I like how clean those watches are. The Mondriaan of the watches, while A Lange is Rambrandt.
Wonder what the result will be of collaboration with A. Lange. I very much like the costrast in the parts they use. Different materials and different colours. All those parts fit perfectly in their cases and if I had one, I would be lost for hours watching the movement.

There's an air bubble in the paint on the '1' date numeral. @ 7:40

good advertising video. But the watch itself, has some parts, which are not really on a professional level. The date (9) was not in the middle of the frame. Seems, the mechanism is not accurate enough. And the left side of the date window shows, one unpainted part of the calendar wheel. So, small things, which shouldnt be.
