The invisible woman sketches were based on Arabella Weir's actual frustrations over how her contributions to the show were percieved at the time.
Middle Ages Guys was a series of sketches that start with James getting divorced from his wife, anda midlife crisis follows, hence him having a teenage girlfriend, getting tattoos and such. The best bit at the end is the audience's reaction being so loud it peaks the mics, and then Simon Day (on the far right of the screen) sneaking a drink from his pint while desperately trying to hide how badly he's corpsing.
I remember Johnny Depp talking about how much he loved The Fast Show a few years before his appearance happened. This was a dream for him.

The fact that the Invisible Woman sketch was delivered so quickly, is the premise of the whole show. The guys noticed that when trailers for upcoming sketch shows were being screened, they obviously had to cut straight to the chase and deliver the humour. They thought, let's do that for the whole show, hence "The Fast Show"

Fast Show. One of the greatest British comedies of the 90's, yet it barely gets any reactions.

It's a tough one to react to as most of the sketches are so short. Either have to do compilations of the same character or full episodes.

Fun fact: the creators of the Fast Show, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Higson, worked as decorators. One day, they spend more time coming up with sketches than actually decorating while on a job, and the home owner urged them to get into comedy instead. Stephen Fry still thinks it's the best advice he ever gave someone.

Glad you like this, Megan. The 'Suit You' guys are two of my favourites and Johnny Depp was playing himself in this sketch from the final episode of the series. A shame to watch only specific sketches though. To do it justice, I'd recommend starting at the beginning and watching whole episodes in order as they have recurring characters. Some of which have a bit of progression that develops over time, you see. So the context with some of them could be lost with individual sketches.

Fun fact, originally, the 'Suit You Sir' Gents were originally conceived by Paul Whitehouse for Harry Enfield and Chums. But Harry didn't see the humour or appeal of the characters, and rejected them,. So Paul created the Fast Show to do his own stuff.

Arabella Weir wrote the Invisible Woman sketch, they did some variations on it and it was quite a while before Paul Whitehouse said to her, “Wait a minute, that’s what we are like with you isn’t it,” Arabella being one of only two women in the team.

Megan nails it again. Hadn't seen these - thanks. Harry and Paul were quite prolific and the quality was nearly always up there - as I've said, a gold mine. You're right. Johnny does a great Brit accent, and Scottish too. In fact my favourite movie of his is 2004's 'Finding Neverland' in which he plays Scots 'Peter Pan' creator J. M. Barrie. Co-stars Kate Winslet, Dustin Hoffman, Julie Christie and a remarkable turn from Freddie Highmore as the young Peter. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it already and if you want a change from humour. There are pirates but no Jack Sparrow grotesqueries, in fact I wish he'd done more of these 'straight' roles. I don't mind what you watch but I do hope more 'Fawlty Towers' is on the agenda at some stage.Till next time.
