@@sirwolfy9372 NT being far more playable outweighs the grind of it technically being worse.
It's only worse if you actually care about grinding every chip to get to Bass. In X6 it's borderline required to get certain Parts to progress in the first Gate stage, so you gotta not only grind but pray you don't get the parts you need killed.
At least if you wanna grind chips in NT, you can just run back and forth and slay the same fairly easy enemies over again. You can't even do that in X6, you gotta leave the stage to grind the Nightmares and you can only grind off Dynamo if you know to hit him with his weakness.
The only chip that's bad to grind honestly is the one from the Rush virus that needs a kajillion shots in a row.
X6 is far more cryptic to grind and you NEED to grind, NT has more OF an OPTIONAL grind that's 99% of the time far more manageable.

For those who want to know WindMan's story, since KNI didn't play it: The opponent is an Indian girl, the same age as Lan, who accidentally had rice wine in her water canteen, and goes on a drunken rampage, sending WindMan to cause trouble. It's basically the same as VideoMan's quest without the inverted controls, and instead of panels on the ground, there are timed gusts of wind that you need to hide from or get sent back to the start of the area. You make it to WindMan, the girl manages to sober up, forgetting she was drunk and then getting drunk again right before your match. It is a painfully unfunny "comedy" segment that is ENTIRELY hinged on how funny you think an underage girl accidentally getting wasted is.

Oh man, if you thought the translation was bad, you should've played Blue Moon. ProtoMan's scenario involved a pixel hunt in the Undernet for multiple keys where your only clues are vague and often mistranslated hints. And I really do mean pixel hunt, because nothing gives away where a key is hidden and some places look identical, so without a map, you're spamming A on every title of this giant area, getting assaulted by the worst viruses in the game and potentially forgetting what you've checked in your frustration.

This game can be a nightmare for completion.
You can't just simply expect to blast through the first and second playthrough because the enemies on the third run will be the strongest versions of the viruses and so you won't be able to get the previous versions chips.
So that combined with the blue mystery data which also returns with different chips means you have to meticulous search the entire game for both enemies and chips 3 times. If you want 100% completion. Which is asking a bit much.

I feel like they could have easily implemented at least some of the darkchip/nebula/shade man plot into the tournament scenarios. Maybe not all of them, but it'd make sense for, say, Match and Fire Man to get tempted with Dark Chips or something, right? Or heck, god forbid you give Dex and GutsMan an actual character beat of being frustrated they always lose to MegaMan and nearly huffing dark chips. Like, it's already 'character does bad thing, megaman stops them from doing bad thing, tournament fight,' and Dark Chips are what the game is ostensibly about, it's bizarre that not a single scenario even references them.

Apologies if this is annoying, but I figured I might as well say it for information's sake: Battle Network 1 to 3 are not prequels to 4. "Prequel" is short for "Pre-sequel" and it refers to a work's sequel (released after) with a plot that chronologically takes place before the events of the original. Something that is not a sequel (i.e. was released prior instead of after) cannot be a prequel, but would instead be a predecessor, prior release/title, or something akin to that.
For a random example: Yoshi's Island is a prequel to Super Mario World, as it was released after SMW but takes place in the past, when Mario was an infant.

29:42 To be fair, most translation "Teams" for projects like this game would consist of a single translator, an editor, and, if you were lucky, someone else to implement the dialogue into the game. That being said, there's no excuse for this game's rampant script issues. The whole game reads like it never got a second pass.

Less people means ensures consistency in the script. Not just in terminology, but stuff like grammar.
If you put too many people into the project because you’re pressed for time, like Persona 5’s OG release (I don’t know how much of the localization was changed for Royal), you get an inconsistent mess.

About the plot, I think the writer was trying to emulate a kid's show. Since the anime was around at the same time as BN3 and it was a huge success for them. Maybe that's why there's an overarching villain plot that's just hinted throughout the adventure and the protagonists are actually dealing with episodic side quests essentially. But that's just especulation.
I'm just happy they abandoned that structure at 5, the best game for me.

For the life of me, I will never understand why Network Transmission is as hated as it is. I found that to be a fantastic game; so much so, that there's this part of me that genuinely wishes the side scroller/chip ammo concept was what they had used for Starforce.
Anyway, I absolutely agree with you that BN4 killed the franchise. I had 100% completed the three previous games, but had to slow down and slog through 4. My biggest fear was that I might be advancing to the next new game+ without collecting everything...which meant that, come pre final boss time, I would have to crack open a guide, and SCOUR the entire game. TWICE. Not only that, but essentially do it all in one sitting, for fear of putting the game down out of fatigue and then forgetting what I had and hadn't done yet.
    ...and then BN5 came out.
I played a Japanese rom of BN5 before it released in the US from start to finish. Despite my loose understanding of the plot from the guide I was following, I was having INFINITELY more fun than BN4. 5 would eventually release and I began playing it alongside my brother...but I kept being reminded that I would have to go back and finish 4. Eventually, I would beat 5's main story, but forbade myself from touching the endgame until I went back and finished 4.
    ...and then BN6 came out.
Same song and dance here. Got a rom, beat it and then picked up the english version. just like 5, 6 was great (better now that I could actually understand the plot). However, I still had to go back and finish 4. Eventually, I had to just force myself to stop playing 6 until I completed 4, so I never even beat it in english, nor have I truly seen the series' conclusion.
That was, like, a decade ago.
BN4 was such a chore to play, that it got in the way of me systematically completing these games. Now that the legacy collection is coming out, my brother and I have been joking about how we're going to deal with 4. Play it first and get it over with? Play it in order so that it burns us out for the next two? Play it last so that the journey ends on a sour note? I don't know. All I do know is that this game took all the momentum the series had and crashed and burned with it.
Funnily enough, I wonder how the ideas of Bass and Duo souls would have affected things. Like, as opposite spectrum rewards for players. Remove the -1HP dark chip thing and instead just gate, like, 1/3 of the chips between dark and light sides. Dark players can use dark chips, which are less about power and more about hyper strategic, twisted, troll-esque functionality. Think status effects and the like. Light players would be the opposite, straight forward, smash with the power of justice attacks. Remaining on one side for too long would alter Mega's appearance to be more like Bass or Duo and grant new abilities, separate from Unisons (which I would still allow both sides to use).
Or, OR. Just make a Bass version and a Duo version, each with a set of soul unisons more catered to the respective game's moral alignment. This way, the story beats would swap out interactions with Bass and Duo, possibly culminating in a final boss against the other. This way, Bass wouldn't just get ejected from the plot by being reduced to generic OP evil amnesia guy. You could instead have a story where Lan and Mega Man find and interact with him for the entire game, culminating in a soul unison by the end. The other soul unisons in the Bass version would be based off of formerly evil or bad guy navis in the process of reformation, Like Number Man and Fire Man. Bass can view humanity from various points, people who have been at their lowest and others who have worked their way back up as he restores his memories
The Duo version on the other hand, would be about him as an alien AI that lands on earth. His people believed in absolute justice, but ended up turning on themselves and destroying each other over the paranoia of corruption from evil. Duo can learn through Lan and Mega Man that no one is 100% good or evil and spend the game interacting with prominently 'good guy' characters, like Chaud and Raoul. However, we can see that even they have their darker sides, despite their good hearts, helping Duo to understand morality better.
All the while, Nebula is rising up in the background with dark chips. I wouldn't even make this a mechanic that could be used by the player, just a plot device, since soul unisons are enough to carry the game. Nebula wants either Bass or Duo's power for nefarious purposes, making them the ultimate bad guys of the game. Perhaps they obtain the other game's mascot and are building them up to be the final boss. Bass gets a massive power boost, goes nuts and must be quelled; Duo is captured and they attempt to build him up and use him, but he gets too powerful for them and is like, "yeah, humanity's scum," and must be fought instead.
Damn, this game really was a waste of potential. You could have built two versions of BN4 that deal with the concepts of good and evil, without having to mess around with a bonkers morality system. I mean, we all know Mega Man would never turn evil for any reason and the dark chip balance was so awfully skewed that it separated players. Oh well, at least 5 came in to clean up 4's mess.

Viddy and VideoMan were actually a couple of my favorite characters from the series. They, their scenario, and the fight were really memorable.
Also, I feel like having some "bad" characters like Viddy Narcy, Terry Jomon, or Atsuki Homura not get redeemed is fine. Personally, I never really liked writing where literally every bad character, no matter how bad they were, would somehow get a redemption arc or moment and be forgiven and see the error of their ways and all that.
It just feels a bit more realistic when there are some people that just can't be redeemed, when there's some people that just don't get along, when there's "bad guys" that never "turn to good".
Though I do feel like there's a bit too many scenarios where the match opponent is the head bad guy, and I kinda wish there were more where the opponent was someone good, or at least honorable, like Raoul. It would've been a bit more refreshing and variable to have a roughly even mix of scenarios where the opponent was the head bad guy of the scenario and ones where they actually help you deal with some other problem like Raoul does.

In regards to the anger emotion, the anger emotion can be gotten is through most omega Navi fights as you mentioned. However, these Navi fights can actually be fought right after their appearance in the story. For example, gutsman omega can be fought in the 1st run, but the fight is super difficult without proper chips. The reason why people use the folders that spam program advances is the fact that getting the SP Navi chips in this game is ludicrously hard due to the requirement of S rank. People need to have fast times and get hit at most only once in these fights, which you probably know. Also with regards to the shademan boss fight, the shademan boss fight can be fought before Duo in the first run since the Django side quest isn't closed off. This boss fight isn't too hard right at the end of the first run due to the selection of chips available in the Undernet.

I think the gameplay and the souls mixed, with my early traumatic experiences gives me a sort of a guilty pleasure with it anyway. idk if I say 3 is my favorite with the damn chip and that sick kid part, fr I got stuck on that as a kid and just kept getting screwed on getting that chip or had no idea. Also the whole he used wood soul to beat the final fight should be criticized even more because you have to play a certain way to even get it which is a bit tedious and defeats the purpose of getting through the fight with your unique play-style. I think 5 is cool but I hated that chess moving on the board shit when I first played it.

MMBN4 was kind of a mess in some aspects. apparently one thing that went unnoticed until June 2020, in the Japanese version of the game, when Regal jumps to his death, if you skip the cutscene, the entire credits is played in slow motion. also, might be good if they just had some kind of virus toggle item that you can access from new game+ saves. Also Duo has legs.
One bit of content that's extremely criminally underused was the special battlechips you could obtain from fighting the OPPOSITE VERSION'S NAVIS from the tournament in Higsby's...oh, you better not exchange data until you do like 3 playthroughs or so, since it bugs out the game's code/logic. which is a real shame, you're locked from 12 different chips (with 3 tiers each). fancy being able to shoot Roll's arrows or Numberman's balls in chip-form? nothing for you! there's also technically the Battle Chip Gate's stuff too, you may as well play the VC release if you wanted to use the Tournement-exclusive chips! (also the Z-Saber from Zero 3) since there's no multiplayer functionality.
I'm honestly even unsure if you actually fought opposite version navis or copies of Megaman or what, i never even linked up together with anyone to utilize it.

So, about ten years back I decided to go through the Battle Network games. I did two passes - the first was just to beat the end boss, the second was to 100% each game in turn. The first pass went fine, and the second... took a long time, as you can imagine.
First time through 4, I shrugged, said "that was short" and went on to 5... But then, on that dreaded second pass I learned what true hell meant.
You see, one of the HPMems is in an area only accessible when you get one particular scenario during the final tournament. I did not get that scenario on any of my first *five* playthroughs. The only thing compelling me on after that fifth was sheer bloody minded pride and misguided determination.
Do you know my suffering? Do you know my hatred? You think that you hate this game, but no. No, this is a pitiful trivial thing compared to what I went through. I don't say that I hate a particular given piece of media easily. It *normally* has to be outright fascist or racist propoganda (or along those lines) before I'll go to "I hate this" under normal circumstances.
But Battle Network 4, I hate. I hate it so, so much. The design for this one was broken in almost every meaningful way, and you saved yourself a lot of time in not going through it a third damnable time. The fact that they went for the easy cash grab rather than putting in the time and effort shows all throughout the game.

Honestly, I wish that this game was better, cause it has so much going for it: New Game Plus to remove content padding that made the first few games hell, Double Souls which incentivized different folder builds depending on your playstyle, The Boktai crossover granting really cool features like Gundelsol, and the Karma system judging you for actions in the story. This is shit that you'd see in a modern day game: Dynamic battling, Multiple playthroughs, the ability to make OP AF characters, and a consequence for taking an easy and selfish route.
Too bad it was a GBA game released in 2003, made by a company that doesn't understand that oversaturating a market can be dangerous, especially when it comes to kids games where PARENTS will be the ones buying it. If we ever get a Battle Network 7, I hope we get some of the gameplay features that were in this one. Mainly cause it won't be limited to a shitty battery operated cartridge that could only hold 32mb at most.

What I like about these reviews is how well balanced they're written. Sure the game is poorly written and there are a ton of negatives associated with it. But you also take some time to highlight the positives and mainly what a lot of fans loved about this game. The combat was a huge improvement from previous games and that's probably what a lot people remember the most about BN4.
Everything else in this game is just hilariously bad. For real man, if it wasn't for these videos I probably would have still thought highly about this game. I had no idea there were so many plotholes, let alone the absurd amount of reused content. Really makes me appreciate these reviews so much more.

One more thing is that the Anger emotion also triggers if megaman is stunned for a while , so ThunderMan or a higher level Billy virus might do the trick.
Omega level bosses can spawn after their alpha forms have been defeated. Most if them have nearly as much HP as Duo's first form (exceptions are LaserMan Omega (2,200 HP), WoodMan Omega (2,500 HP), and Bass Omega (3,000 HP).

So, there has been a lot of comments already mentioning how you can cheese the 7 digit password by bruteforcing it, but there is actually an easier way.
The game has 3 different passwords for this section and you can tell which one you have just by checking the paper and reading the first question. For example, if you go the one that ask for how many Town Netdealers are, the passcode will be 1563546. So, you don't even need to do the whole trial and error thing. Shoutout to the Official Strategy guide for saving me a lot of time with this information

I feel like Capcom should've released a sort of overview/guide for this game.
Making players at least aware that there is more to the game, than what you are currently going through.
    Example:
    Playthrough 1:
    Story scenario 1
    "Act" 1
    -Story
    - RNG
    -(Optional) RNG
    - RNG that's tied to the story beat...->Story
    Repeat for next act/sequence
    And in the guide/direct info to the player at the start;
    For
    Playthrough 2/new game +:
    Contents;
    Stronger enemies
    New chips
    New bosses
    Areas
    ++
And there are more things to be found in New Game2:
[Page number, and going there will present you with a list of the changes, shops, and such.]

I do have to say that even if you decide to play the Double Team DS version of 5, that you go back and listen to the GBA version soundtrack. IMO the DS port ruined a lot of the music, making it much more bland and less emotional.
They perfected using the chiptune sounds for music in the rest of the series, and having to try to port perfect chiptune music into normal music on the DS didn't work out that well IMO.
The most important tracks to listen to the GBA versions of have spoilers in the track titles, so they're below:
"A Total War", "You're Not Alone", and "VS Nebula Grey"
