As in, Rayan was 10 years old, while Karl was already older -- being at the same skill level, whilst likely having practiced less, is 'talent'. A doctor isn't 'talented' at curing people, as it's obtained through work & practice. It's semantics, granted -- but in this specific context it's a big difference.

I've become addicted to your videos! There's something about the meticulousness of both your videos and speedrunning itself which is very facinating. Also the fact that a kid at 10 years old and someone well into their 60's can be competitive at a high level is partly reminiscent to chess (and a big reason for why I love it).

It's amazing to see how people stick with their games for such a long time always trying to best the records. The fact that speedrunners after all these years still manage to find new ways of improving these supposedly "unbeatable" times which ends in more people trying to at least tie it and thus keeping the game alive longer is just great. And Rayan in particular is truly elite. And Karl you are a legend; I love these history of a specific run videos a lot.

Perfect Dark's biggest downfall was that it was released at the end of the N64's lifespan and the PS2, XBos and Gamecube were all on the horizon. It was a great game...not as memorable as Goldeneye IMO, but still a fantastic spiritual sequel. My friends and I played the hell out of Goldeneye, and I suspect we would have transitioned to Perfect Dark had it come out a year earlier than it did. I bought it the day after my grandma's funeral and one of my friends came over to play it...he moved to LA a week later. All my friends were graduating college and moving on when PD came out, so we never played it. The core group of friends that I had all through high school and college had splintered, and video gaming, for me, has never been the same. The N64 is the console I'm most nostalgic for because I have such fond memories playing Mario Kart, Mario Part and Goldeneye with the friends I'd had for most of my life up to that point...I don't get the same enjoyment out of playing games online as I did back in the late 90's playing 4 players with everyone in the same room. Them's were the days.
