Gonna give shoutouts down here to the music artists that I used in this video: HOME - soundcloud.com/home-2001 - This guy is known for his song "Resonance", but I hope that his legacy doesn't end there. Resonance is great, but he has dozens of other tracks that are not only amazing for casual listening, but work fantastically as background music for videos (such as this one!) Thanks so much for letting me use your music, it's rare to see that with music creators of your stature. Kevin MacLeod - incompetech.com/music/ - He needs no introduction. When it comes to royalty-free music, he is the king of it. His songs have probably been used in millions of productions worldwide, and for good reason- he has an enormous library of high quality songs. There's a few of his songs in particular (Frost Waltz, Impact Lento) that I keep coming back to for my videos. On behalf of myself and countless other creators, thank you for being awesome. Luminist - luministmusic.bandcamp.com/ - I found him from his synthesizer remakes of the Metroid soundtrack. They were amazing of course, so I decided to poke around to see what other stuff he had. While there's not too much of it so far, what's there is really unique and beautiful. I've never heard music quite like the songs from his EP "Simulations" before, and I hope that you continue making music in the future. Thanks for letting me use what you've got so far, and I can't wait to see what's in store for later. Shikimo - soundcloud.com/shikimo - Funnily enough, the way I found out about Shikimo was from an email that was sent to me Since I'm so picky with the music I use, it's rare that I find artists from them reaching out to me- the song Shikimo sent me, however, which I used in this video (Getaway) was too good to ignore. So, to any synth artists out there, please feel free to send me an email with what you've got! Thank you for deciding to contact me, Shikimo. I look forward to exploring more of what you have in the future. Stevia Sphere - steviasphere.bandcamp.com/ - I learned about this artist recently, when I was just browsing through a youtube playlist looking for potential background music. When I found Stevia Sphere, I realized I had struck gold- there were dozens of brilliant, widely varying songs across a bunch of albums, and 95% of them were under a creative commons license, meaning they were free to use in videos. Stevia's music ranges from really relaxing, to thought provoking and inspiring, and everywhere in between. Thanks for all that you've done! Three Chain Links - soundcloud.com/beardmont - I'm convinced that this guy creates some of the best synth music on the internet, and it's really a shame that he doesn't have a bigger following. Links' song "All We Ever See Of Stars" in particular is just incredible, but don't stop looking there- there are so many that are similar in quality. Links does a great job making music that sounds like it's ripped straight from 30 years ago. Thanks for creating it all, and for releasing it with a creative commons license no less!

Kittycatcarter I’m with you. This was such a great video. I really didn’t know what to expect, because I’m not a huge wii player, but I loved this video so much
Honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s like another tier of mastery with the game. Most of the community today is understanding enough to not do this in an online race so the game isn’t really abused. Bugs and glitches such as these that add another layer to the game that aren’t cheap are what give games personality and keep them relevant for years to come
Not entirely sure why this had appeared in my recommended, but I'm glad it did. I really enjoy gaming history, and you mastered covering that. Subscribed, cant wait to see what lies ahead.
You seem to have a confused view on furries, which has literally had nothing to do with my original comment. I advise you educate yourself before looking like an out of place edge lord.
Speedrunning on its own was never something I was very interested in, but following its path and seeing the community deconstruct these games for the perfect run is damn interesting. And this channel is awesome for documenting the history in such a clean and engaging way. Props, man. Props.
I use to be a speed runner for mincraft gliding. (original map only) I was so dedicated to doing better than everyone else that i schemed how to get the angles and everything perfect. I use to practice the parts no one would ever try for hours and would causally do them in any game as if it was nothing new. I was also constantly testing new ideas like if i go through a small hole in the floor at the perfect angle could I get any seconds taken off? I would test also how others did it in world record times. When i first started playing it my times were over 1 min 30 seconds (this was a typical time back then idk about now) I got so good that i cut my time to 1:09 aka a few seconds short of the world record (last i knew it was like 1min 3 seconds)
"We've seen driving on a rock formation, riding along a wall, and jumping through a bridge. This time, it's something a little bit simpler. Driving through a parking lot." I've heard a LOT of bone chilling lines before, but none has ever come close to THAT specific one.
I love how these shortcuts are helping to keep the game and it's community alive 10 years later, even while Nintendo is shutting down Wii channels, including the WFC. The game was my childhood and is really important to me because of that, so it makes me happy to see it still has lots of regular players, forums, etc.
"It took six years for one fifth of a second to come off of his record." Next up: Luke takes four years to shave off one millisecond from GCN Mario Circuit.
F U C K. This is blowing my mind how accurate this is. It’ll be shit like this and all the self deprecating memes we have now that’ll be obsolete by then
Yeah I have just hear that. Only downside is that bcn64 and koopa cape are not humanly possible (just like walluigi stadium) and shy guy beach costs like 3 minutes waiting before you can do it. Still an amazing discovery though
"probably has the longest wr duration" you don't say Player Total Duration % MrBean 2954 76.69 McRaren 235 6.1 Justin 223 5.79 Bubbles 152 3.95 poyo 132 3.43
Yeah that made me think of how I use Yoshi’s Classic Dragster still even though it’s not very fast and I have played more than enough times that I could use a faster car easily.
I just realized why I love your videos so much. It's not so much that you deliver a chronicle of speedrunning milestones - it's something greater and much more powerful. What YOU do is you weave narratives, tell stories. And you're a great storyteller, gripping your audience with something as seemingly mundane as "how this guy found a way to trick the game out of a few seconds, and then some months later some obsessed kid beat him". Sure, speedrunning is in fact amazing, but only if you can see the grand scheme and you do that, draw the lines, and present it as a whole, as something with context and personal struggle, innovation, individuals, and collectives. Not to mention your visual narratives (like the cool little intro on this one). You're a good presenter, but you're a grade A storyteller. I could never sit through endless trials at some obscure game's world record - but I'll gladly watch hours of your stories. Any storyteller and writer can learn from you - as absurd as it would seem at first glance, lol! Cheers!
My thoughts exactly. Summoning Salt could make even the most boring thing seem huge and interesting. He tells stories with huge twists and turns, and the editing and music and script all helps every moment seem monumental. I didn't give a damn about speedrunning before I found this channel. I get really excited whenever he posts, because each video is consistently great
Ah yes, my 30 something second WR on Coconut Mall. Yeah, that was...a day. I couldn't believe when I hit refresh not even a minute later, expecting a congrats post and seeing my WR beaten already, LOL. I also had the GV WR for a little bit as well, until Niyake snatched that from me. You should do a video for things like BC3, BC, and others :) Nice work!
*WOW!* I originally saw this in my RUclips Recommended list and instantly thought "no way, that's 32 minutes long". It kept coming up again and again before I caved in and watched it. It takes a LOT for me to see a 20+ minute video and not click off it after 2 minutes, but that's exactly what this has done. Well done Summoning Salt, you've clearly put so much effort into this and I commend you highly for it. I've always heard of these ultra shortcuts before, but to see all the facts presented so wonderfully in an engaging and informative format is truly spectacular. Usually, I'll watch these 30 minute, good quality videos before seeing that the were made x number of years ago. To have a video of this high standard only have been published a week ago is something I *really* admire. Thank you Summoning Salt, we have a true creator in our midst.

At this moment I realized how broken the game is.
wiewiur it’s probably smk, that game had the most broken map physics ever seen
Honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s like another tier of mastery with the game. Most of the community today is understanding enough to not do this in an online race so the game isn’t really abused. Bugs and glitches such as these that add another layer to the game that aren’t cheap are what give games personality and keep them relevant for years to come
And that’s why this game is still so popular
Zach Z Mario kart physics for the win man
And now 21/32 tracks are glitched

KohtaloJC furry
What’s your point
KohtaloJC that’s meditated beastiality silly
You seem to have a confused view on furries, which has literally had nothing to do with my original comment. I advise you educate yourself before looking like an out of place edge lord.
Speedrunning on its own was never something I was very interested in, but following its path and seeing the community deconstruct these games for the perfect run is damn interesting. And this channel is awesome for documenting the history in such a clean and engaging way. Props, man. Props.
Farare same I find it amazing that people dedicate time to find these methods
Same same
I use to be a speed runner for mincraft gliding.
Farare i know right
Its so interesting
Each game has their own story of being broken for speedruns

I love how these shortcuts are helping to keep the game and it's community alive 10 years later, even while Nintendo is shutting down Wii channels, including the WFC. The game was my childhood and is really important to me because of that, so it makes me happy to see it still has lots of regular players, forums, etc.
get ctgp and you will be able to play up to 200 more tracks and online races still :))) updates almost monthly with tracks etc.

:p

Didn't expect to see you
Shut Up shut up

I get really excited whenever he posts, because each video is consistently great
I second that.
