      He was found guilty of manslaughter which carries a 2-20 year sentence. He's an ex cop, howmuch time do you think he'll serve for taking a life? I say he'll get 2 years and be out in 8 months.

      These people are proving the justice system has two playing fields. Police vs citizens. Police get light sentences yet citizens are kept in jail until they can post bond, plea out or stay in jail.

    I agree with the last gentlemen in the pin-striped suit. I don't think "intent" was there. He made a tragic mistake and took a young girl's life, but doesn't rise to 1st degree murder.

    There wasn't enough evidence for murder. The evidence doesn't fit the crime unfortunately. Yes he killed her but if they couldn't prove that it was intentional, the first degree murder charge wouldn't have stuck.

      Yes. It's is manslaughter the issue people who are not familiar with the meaning of murder is.... If you or I get convicted of manslaughter we can expect 7-10 year sentence. When an officer does it. They usually walk or get 2 years and walk after a couple months.

      Most cops, even ex cops or retired ones, get off a bit easy.
      My father was a sheriff and retired. He was abusive towards my mother and any time the cops were called, he would flash his badge and they would say, 'ok have a good night sir'
      He's committed crimes but not once was he arrested because of his status. That's for any cop or ex cop; they get off or get a lesser charge regardless of the law.

      @@NeBanks The prosecutor never even tried to submit evidence that he intended to murder her. If that evidence existed, they certainly would have tried to prove it. They ignore it because it didn't exist, it's the only explanation. Murder requires intent to kill be proven.

    The tragedy beyond taking an innocent life is there was no speedy trial. 4 yrs? He should have 4 extra yrs for every family member who had to endure this incompetence and stalling. They protect their own. People are getting sick of it. That could have happened to my dad last week when they came to the wrong house banging on the down with hand on her gun. The supervisor tried to make excuses. These people need training, at least.

      I can see the argument for him being not guilty. He was in fear for his life. Sadly he also put her in fear for hers. They both thought each other were the criminals.
      I'm less concerned with cops having tactical advantage than I am homeowners being shot for being vigilant.
      If some person is prowling outside my house in the dark better believe I'm going to be armed. I won't assume it may be a cop. I need my tactical advantage too.

    I watched this trial…. All I have to say is at the end of the day someone lost their daughter, sister, aunt, mother, from the careless acts of a police officer. An officer that did many things wrong. Prayers to the family sending love and light your way.

      According to the Prosecutor, she did not. She had it by her side when she was looking through the window. The glass was only in her face and not on her hands. Based on the trajectory of the billet she was bending over when she was shot. The cop lied. He didn’t even tell his partner he saw a gun. He made up the lie after he went inside and saw there was s gun at her feet.

      They got justice. They are just unwilling to accept it. There was 0 proof in that trial for premeditation or malicious intent. He made a mistake and somebody died. thats the textbook definition of manslaughter.
      So I think what you meant to say was "there's nothing worse than when a family doesn't pay attention to the law and wants everybody that wronged them to get crucified."

    I sincerely doubt people really want anyone to be able to exact whatever vengeance they want. Just because someone doesn't get what they want doesn't mean it's a miscarriage of justice.
    Justice is not necessarily the most severe penalty available.

      According to Texas law he should've been convicted of murder over manslaughter. This wasn't even a case you could argue nuances. It was clear cut, by the letter of the law murder.
      But at least he was convicted. Texas is such a hellhole. I'm just glad he didn't get completely off. At least he'll see some prison time.
      Jury was wrong on this, though. I'd be curious to see why they disregarded the law. So I hope they eventually give an interview to the press to explain their thought process.

    People need to think with logic instead of their emotions. Keep your emotions in check. Scream in your own privacy. Maintaining decorum for court proceedings is part of the whole song and dance. If you ever want to get anything accomplished you need to have self control. This is how these people run courts. If you give them something to pay attention to like yelling and screaming you will only get the attention you asked for, but it wont be type of attention you want. I've been dealing with court proceedings my whole life. I protect my community and respect for whomever is presiding over the court. Get better lawyers. Maintain self control and if you cant, then don't be there at the courthouse. This will not ever be changed.

      That is the meaning of a speedy trial? 4 yrs? That is a justice system that is all about protecting their own. I've talked to the chief of an officer who got the wrong address, showed up to my 86 yr old father's house banging on the door with one hand on her gun to serve a warrant on a guy with no criminal history. She wouldn't look at the address on the mailbox. Would not take my dads word for it. The chief was making excuses and I had to get in his face to get him to listen to even what my concern was. He finally did when I said your job is serving the public and I want you to listen to my concer and get it, not give a robotic premeditated answer. Unbelievable.

When I needed an attorney in my case regarding the officers fabrication and lying on me in my discovery, my attorney told me they basically fill in their own version of the story in most cases. That's all I needed to know. Not all officers are twisted. But most are. And very disturbed.
