I remember discovering " whats in my bag" segment because of Serj Tankian and now i have easily watched atleast 50 episodes of this series if not less.
I know a lot of metal heads that have really eclectic tastes. I think being so extreme in music opens our minds. When I do cardio exercise, I could just as easily be listening to Justin Timberlake or Chromeo as any metal band. In fact it's easier, the beats help, it's probably harder to bop on an assault bike to Blut aus Nord.. though I may try now, haha!
Beyond surprised when he pulled out Barrington Levy. Never met or seen a metalhead that loves Reggae or Dancehall to this degree. I used to hear Barrington Levy all the time when I was kid both at home (my mom) and while attending High School in the Flatbush/Bedford Avenue area of Brooklyn, New York City.
I think it'd be cool to mix up this series by having a contest for a fan of amoeba to come do a whats in my bag. I'd be curious to see what different music tastes and perspectives this could bring. (also I really REALLY want to do one of these :) )
How awesome is it that Mike picked a Carcass’s Heartwork tour shirt to put in his bag! Out of all the extreme Metal acts out there, Carcass is my favorite too! Killswitch Fucking Rocks!
All great picks ! I bought that Dead Kennedy's "Bedtime For Democracy" LP when it came out in '86. It came with a newspaper w/ crazy news articles the band collected over the years. I wonder if the re-issued version has it too?
Lumpen Proletarier, you should give their music a second chance then, because i'm sure you've missed all the talent, soul and empowerment they pour into almost everything they do.
Thanks for putting in the video notes what they are talking about . I always like to check out what music bands I like bring up especially if it’s stuff I never heard of
This series has helped me discover so much amazing new music! Thanks Amoeba! I’m excited to listen to some Carcass and Murder City Devils tomorrow and freak out my coworkers.
My band opened for Agnostic Front in NY about a year ago. As soon as we finished, i started loading my shit out, looked over and in walks Jesse. Couldn’t believe it. Ended up talking to him and was the coolest dude
Love agnostic front, I remember when I used to jog 4 miles a day liberty and justice would be what was on my play list. Love the song strength, such a powerful message. Funny thing about I against I was that it did not have a reggae song on it, the roar cassette and rock for light did.
I love this. Not the kind where they're sharing their Favs and its just mainstream stuff. What an awesome variety. Carcass threw me for a loop. Super heavy stuff
It’s fun to watch this series, especially to find out about records that I may have missed along the way. This episode just confirmed that they echo some of my taste in music. Good show! Hope you can do episodes with The Smithereens, Teenage Fanclub and The Grip Weeds soon!
Agreed about Minutemen, but also weird that he would say that right after talking about Bad Brains. I get what he was going for though as far as the guitar parts in DK. Just stay away from superlatives and nobody gets hurt.
Shout out and big props to Jesse on the right for wearing a My Bloody Valentine t-shirt, one of my very favorite bands, just further proves his great and eclectic taste in music!!!! Bravo to you sir!!!!
Good episode . If you would’ve told me when I was 17 rocking out to these dudes that in my 30s I’d be traveling to Europe to see them live I wouldn’t have believed ! 🤘🏻
I was expected some more metal to be honest. It would have been a perfect way to introduce some younger fans to some cool real metal albums because we know KE are influenced by a lot of metal bands. Anyway, i really like the new KILLSWITCH ENGAGE that i bought from Amazon on cd. Good album.
Reminds me of losing my Carcass long-sleeve I got at the Heartwork tour stop in Northampton, MA. My mom tossed it because she says it "got damaged in the basement". I call shenanigans. Luckily, she didn't get her mitts on my long-sleeve from the Necroticism tour...
I'm not a fan I admit that but they sure are cool guys! And thank you for mentioning Murder City Devils. I worship that album! Cheers from Finland, Petri
Dead Kennedy's - Great band name. Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - great album title. I think they really managed to verbalize the collective mindset of their fanbase at that time.
Bad Brains!...salute! Home town boys. I'm so proud to be from the DMV (so much happen here musically that doesn't get the attention it should). Lit the fuse of hard core east coast punk, and then as soon as that stick exploded they were off lighting another fuse. True artist can't hang around. They exist to explore and push boundaries, they get everything started (set the stage), and then they're gone, consequently didn't get the recognition they deserve.
I’ve heard heartwork referred to in many different ways… but so-so? That killed any potential legitimacy this video might have had. Heartwork is a fantastic record
Yes, also Jesse, is a fan and friend of the hardcore legend punk powerviolence, the band DROPDEAD... And I have also seen Jesse with T-shirts from The Legend of Crust / Grindcore, DISRUPT.
I knew these guys many many moons ago..they wanted a song I wrote called Scarecrow..should've given it to them..no once ever had a chance to hear it..bummer
If I could choose whats in my bag it would be Metallica - And Justice For All GWAR - Scumdogs of the universe Death - Human Sentenced - Crimson Cannibal Corpse - Bloodthirst Korn - Self titled Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
I remember discovering " whats in my bag" segment because of Serj Tankian and now i have easily watched atleast 50 episodes of this series if not less.
thanks to this series alone I added maybe 30+ albums to my collection. tons of great finds from this! :)
Me too! ❤️
I love seeing what's in my bag segments with metal guys. They're always really nice and always have the most diverse, unpretentious taste in music.
What's in my Bag is my favorite series on RUclips. Love you Amoeba! 🖤
Funny how most of the metal bands Ameoba brings on they seem like good dudes with eclectic taste.
Travis Ryan and Akerfeldt being my favorite examples of this!

BC not even they can sustain listening to the stuff they produce and their ilk
@@gongandfriends That's just a bunch of nonsense. Go be an asshole somewhere else.

For anyone wondering, G.B.H´s albuma "City Baby Attacked by Rats" and "City Babys Revenge" are absolutely fantastic.

Pretty badass that Jesse likes Augustus Pablo and Barrington Levy.
He's too experienced
Barrington levy has some good stuff.
@@te9591 peter broggs,twinkle brothers,mikey dread,etc..reggae roots is beautiful & music in general...universal language :)
And My Bloody Valentine too
Fun to see how diverse the musical Taste of metalbands is opposed to a lot of metalfans.
@Fangalatic i'm not saying all metalfans. A lot of metalfans...
@@garrybrown2627 a rocker that loves the beatles and pink floyd, now ive seen everything. thats varied as hell dude
@Andy Salter as a resident of finland, the country with most metal bands per capita, i respectfully but heartily disagree
Yes, exactly. That's why I love metal bands but hate metal fans :)
Studies have shown that metal fans aren't very open-minded when it comes to music.
Glad to see Mike D getting some camera time. He's an awesome graphic artist as well as bassist
The fact that they like Bad Brains makes me like them even more.
...
I think any band that has -core in its genre should be a fan of Bad Brains
it is almost mandatory to love BB
Carlos Quinones It’s a must! haha
Who doesn't like Bad Brains?

They seem like pretty nice, intelligent guys.
Totally. And speak with a lot of sentiment about the music they like. Pretty open minded.
How awesome is it that Mike picked a Carcass’s Heartwork tour shirt to put in his bag! Out of all the extreme Metal acts out there, Carcass is my favorite too! Killswitch Fucking Rocks!

Holy crap, I was not expecting to recognize a sample when that was played. That track was sampled by Afu-Ra on the track "D&D Soundclash".
More metal stuff like that please Amoeba.
All great picks ! I bought that Dead Kennedy's "Bedtime For Democracy" LP when it came out in '86. It came with a newspaper w/ crazy news articles the band collected over the years. I wonder if the re-issued version has it too?
Crazy and unexpected pics didn't really care for this band but now because of their choice in music I'm going to check them out
You’ll be pleasantly surprised
Their first two albums are the best imo.
Metal vocalist, wearing a Shoegaze shirt, showing off his Reggae album picks. The king of cool.
Im not a big fan of their music but that dude on the right has good taste.
Dude I always see you commenting on music or leftist political videos
Jesse is the man, sae these guys twice now, they always put on a great show
@@tristan16291 thats possible.

This series has helped me discover so much amazing new music! Thanks Amoeba! I’m excited to listen to some Carcass and Murder City Devils tomorrow and freak out my coworkers.
Great:)
The song Heartwork, by Carcass, is their Creeping Death.
actually it was Quickness written with Cro Mags members for Bad Brains
"Bad production on the drums." Haha. Love it.
Wow !love this Murder City Devils record
Heartwork and Necroticism, man. Changed me.. taught me true metal.
My band opened for Agnostic Front in NY about a year ago. As soon as we finished, i started loading my shit out, looked over and in walks Jesse. Couldn’t believe it. Ended up talking to him and was the coolest dude
It just occurred to me that Mike D and Doug Benson have the same voice.
In regards to Bad Brains, Quickness was the album Mackie is referring to.
SO stoked to see murder city devils mentioned. just so powerful, glad Mike feels the same about it
They like all the music I like. From Augustus Pablo to Murder city devils, Carcass, Bad brains. And he's wearing a MBV t shirt very cool
Barrington Levy and Augustus Pablo? Nice.
Bustin’ out Bad Brains and then Augustus Pablo?!!! Boom! Respect to them!
Love agnostic front, I remember when I used to jog 4 miles a day liberty and justice would be what was on my play list. Love the song strength, such a powerful message. Funny thing about I against I was that it did not have a reggae song on it, the roar cassette and rock for light did.

My favourite Carcass record is their 3rd album: "Necroticism"
yes, of course necrotism is the best
What did he mean Heartwork is so so? Generally it's considered really great.

first time seeing this "what!s in my bag" and i like it!! great way to find new music!!
Couldn't agree more on their take of _Murder City Devils_ . That album is fantastic
I love his My Bloody Valentine shirt
Probably, the only good thing about this video
he's a shoegazer inside..
Disappointed the intro showed them looking at Kyuss’s wretch but they didn’t actually put it in their bag
Mike actually said, "that was it, that was a few". I guess they gave them a certain amount to talk about or something.
Meaning they probably did buy it, just didn't share their story on it.
oh man these guys and i share similar music taste and i am so stoked about the reggae love

*Minutemen have joined the chat*

Definitely need a What’s In My Bag with Wes Eisold from American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost, Cold Cave.
Shout out and big props to Jesse on the right for wearing a My Bloody Valentine t-shirt, one of my very favorite bands, just further proves his great and eclectic taste in music!!!! Bravo to you sir!!!!
Awesome selections!
I'm a huge reggae fan (as well as Bad Brains) so this is great!

My all time favorite band.
check out The Beatles
Francis Poivre have all there records on vinyl I think I already have what about you?
This one reminds me of being young and seeing Carcass, Agnostic Front, Bad Brains and Augustus Pablo live, not all on the same bill.

Gbh are an awesome band
@Ameaba You guys should do a tally of many times an artist gets picked. Bad Brains comes up alot among others.
Metal guys on What's In My Bag usually have 2 metal records and the rest are crazy different bands and styles
Jesse loves Barrington Levy! That's awesome
I’m not a Killswitch Engage fan. I just randomly clicked on this video, but I happen to be wearing a murder city devils shirt at the moment!
Dead Kennedy's - Great band name. Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - great album title. I think they really managed to verbalize the collective mindset of their fanbase at that time.

I love these episodes but personally I can't ever find what I'm looking for at Amoeba.
Barrington? Respect
