James Brown, Bob Marley, and Iggy Pop in one down to earth package. HR, the amazing man of music. Bad Brains one of the greatest bands in Rock 'n' Roll history.
A great, great band who deserved to be much bigger. I bought their debut album on cassette in 1982, and it knocked me down. BTW, the view rn regarding Bad Brains is amazing while I sit re-watching this past event captured as best it could be, now cemented in history. Someone with some true musical wisdom hand their hand in this for BB to be involved with the MTV (emptyV) beach party!! I had no idea who BB was beforehand or of what this day would come to mean to myself. Sometime after noon I unenthusiastically walked a couple minutes from my regular spot at the beach up to the boardwalk just to say I checked out the music, heard a couple radio-rock songs I knew I already wasn’t into, be in disbelief at how many people only listen to what they are fed, lose faith in finding my own home in music, walk away a judgmental elitist and wait until I could play good enough to show the world the beat of the drum I was marching to. I had no clue what was about to happen but I was ready. Lol It’s such a relatively small unassuming bandshell on the beach but I did see some legendary bands there play there now that I think of it. I was warned not to go up on the boardwalk and just to stay on the beach like normal as I was only 12 years old. “Idk why you’d wanna listen to that noise they call music nowadays anyways!” I agreed with her on a lot of the music and still do. I was trying to find MY OWN music aside from what I knew from my time training as a classical pianist, sorting through the “crap the kids call music nowadays” as my piano teacher called it and Dad’s music which was the best so far, but still his music. So then, while sneaking into the area from the beach as an impressionable 12 year old seeker I became more and more excited as I followed this very energetic sound straight to the bandshell. It was something I never heard before. It was super fast. It was angry. It was furious. It was just what I was looking for. I had found it here, in Bad Brains, first. I have always held their music in the highest regard while being an attentive and serious student to their MESSAGE and perfectly suited accompanying drive, energy, fearlessness, charisma and style of each instrument! I saw them twice, around '85 to '87. People used to yell, "Play Pay to Come" and they'd say, "We don't even remember how to play our old songs." It was a good thing when I Against I came out, because it was so good, people didn't complain as much about missing the hardcore stuff.

And hands down... they were the absolute finest band live anyone could ever wish to see!

The Ritz, CBGB’s, The World, City gardens on the quickness tour.
Wish I got to see them at A7.
F@cking fierce! HR was ON for sure, House Of Suffering was was faster and heavier than on record.
Anyone see Sublime with Brad cover House Of Suffering back in the day? After Brad died the Long Beach Dub Allstars would do it sometimes. Good stuff!
I saw Dr. Know with Mos Def, Bernie Worrel, and the bass playing and drummer for Living Colour. Man, great show, Mos Def was feeling like shit so it was pretty short set but it was awesome seeing these amazing musicians.
*Rock For Light* remains one of the top Punk Albums of all time.
Yes, Daytona for sure. Me & my friends were the ones right there with H.R. when he jumped into the crowd at the 12:30 mark.
So amazing, I'm shocked i just heard about them, this music it redefining in so many ways!
saw them in the 80's down stairs in a church, love the bad brains

Thanks for the video best quality hands down ! Daytona loc dogg here 🙌
I've scene a lot of punk bands live... some of.. well, actually most of the classics.
And usually played with most of them in my band Subterfuge, opening for them.
However.. never was fortunate enough to share the bill with The Bad Brains.
But was blessed enough to witness them live one time in 83'.
And hands down... they were the absolute finest band live anyone could ever wish to see!
yeah, what's up with the crowd?
Hardcore!!!
i mean, were they expecting UB40?
Eric Lamb best comment ever
actually , yes they were. It was a mainstream event unfortunately.
I love UB40 but back this was new for the crowd, 20 years later most of the crowd would say that it was something they glad to see live & something that would never be duplicated
This is music that will live on
Give thanks for posting... blessed is you.
One of the greatest band ever
So important
