Same, I've never got into Rise Against (love Zach's old band Hagfish though, and 88 Fingers Louie were cool), but there's some great tunes here. I think I might check out Marked Men!
Hard. I went and saw them because Sick Of It All were playing support and while they seemed to know what they were doing, it was fairly squarely aimed at the jock rock radio station crowd. ...but the recommendations here are worth coming back to
I don’t know why I watch this series. I’m always at least somewhat familiar with the artists featured but I’m never disappointed at the fellows lovely articulation of the stuff that matters to them. I love passionate people.
Joe you are as rad as ever. Especially with the J MASCIS call out. It's totally fun watching you tell the rest of the world what any of your old friends have known for years. Also my favorite Elvis Costello rechord.
Havent heard about this guys before. They totally have great music taste. I think I might probably start listen to them, I’m a huge fan of punk music. Thanks Amoeba, this was indeed a great episode.
The first three Rise Against albums are classics front to back and I will die on this hill, everyone in the comments disparaging them just take that negativity and high five yourself in the mirror, such awesome taste - good job!
I like a lot of those picks, but I have a bone to pick with anyone being described as "this generation's Iggy Pop" if the guy in question is not scaring the poop out of 99% of the public.
+Xenon Fae We're backlogged with cool videos. We sometimes shoot episodes faster than we can edit because we get too many great opportunities. Sorry for the wait! Glad you like how it came out.
This is one of the best ones of these I've seen. I like that they're fine admitting they mostly listen to punk rock and punk-adjacent music! So many people on these seem to go out of their way to be eclectic, international, avant garde, multi-culti, etc. We all like diverse music hopefully, but many of us (music geeks) also are obsessed with a narrower range of music... which just look at these selections, isn't really that narrow when you dig deep. I don't listen to these guys much, but this video raises them a few points for me. Think I'll check out more of their music.
@@noelguerrero7353 If you gave me $1000.00, or whatever, to buy music at Amoeba, I would also buy mostly stuff that was punk or punk adjacent, so i related to this. It bores/disappoints me when I click on a punk musician’s list of favorites and they have everything including the kitchen sink, but little punk. People enjoy finding like minded people once in a while. You have a problem with that? Than you’re the shitty one. Edit: sometimes I go down other music rabbitholes, so on a given day I might buy a grand’s worth of reggae or British invasion or whatever. But never “a little bit of everything”.
@@LetsGoMetsGo33 it just makes me mad when people shut everything out bc I have a friend who strictly listens to hip hop and hip hop only and won’t give anything else a chance but no sense of community is important but never be limited to on genre is what I’m saying
@@noelguerrero7353 no, don’t shut stuff out, but if he’s really into hip hop, IMO he could make an interesting video of all the deep cut hip hop he would buy if he were given a free shopping spree. I might watch it. A better video (IMO) than someone who’s buying “a little bit if everything”.
Nice to see for a change where a punk (or alternative rock or whatever) band picks up all punk stuff! Usually its like "ok here's 1 record from the genre you associate me with, now here's a bunch of bluegrass, reggae, and rap..."
thanks for the wipers! a type of sound i was looking for. :) reminded me of some of lookout! records (RIP) bands from the 90's, but i didn't dig this kind of music at the time.
I gotta disagree with dude, The Stranglers dont really sound like heroin to me........The leaving trains sound like heroin, The Germs, The Birthday Party, the Swans, THEY ALL sound like heroin, trust me on this.......been clean for a few years now.
radio bro rock? they're aging so their singer doesn't like screaming as much as he used to. their songs aren't as mosh pit hardcore sounding as they used to, but the idea behind it is still the same.
they're in their 30s, that's not really old. There are plenty of hardcore and punk dudes putting out heavy music late into their careers. The ideas might be the same, but I think the music has gotten really bad, and I listen to music for the music mainly, not the ideas. I'll read some Hedges, Chomsky, or Hitchens for ideas.
That store is so awesome. One could spend all day in there.
I fucking love that Agent Orange record!
That John Reis record with The Blind Shake is fucking fantastic and hugely under appreciated, seriously go listen to it now
Great picks you can hear a bit of those influences in their music , very consistent and great band Rise Against .
I don't really like rise against, but man these guys have some good taste

Yeah. I thought the same thing.
The Unraveling was a fun album with some good hardcore tracks on it (Great Awakening was awesome) but after that they went jock rock radio poop.
@@utterlybrilliant - "Hagfish Rocks Your Lame Ass" GREAT record!!
annnd, happy side fun fact: Zach is a super nice dude. =)
His head is endless
Saw them live and he head butted a wall and broke through to the other side😐
There will never be another Iggy Pop!
Thank you Zach for getting me to listen to the Marked Men, Radioactivity and all the other bands from Dirtnap Records
This reminded me that I need to go out and buy more Stranglers LPs - I sold my old copies a while back, sadly...
I don’t know why I watch this series. I’m always at least somewhat familiar with the artists featured but I’m never disappointed at the fellows lovely articulation of the stuff that matters to them. I love passionate people.
The best band in the world!!
nice, I have that Wipers box-set, those three albums are essential for any punk fan
Absolute ass kickin' box set!!
Agent Orange is the best
Jean Jacques Burnel the greatest bass player! and why i picked up bass.
Joe you are as rad as ever. Especially with the J MASCIS call out. It's totally fun watching you tell the rest of the world what any of your old friends have known for years. Also my favorite Elvis Costello rechord.
Wipers!!

This might be the only Amoebamusic video that hasn't disappointed me in some way.
The first three Rise Against albums are classics front to back and I will die on this hill, everyone in the comments disparaging them just take that negativity and high five yourself in the mirror, such awesome taste - good job!
Great taste from these guys. Loving the Stranglers and Marked Men shout outs.
RIP Steve Soto from The Adolescents and Agent Orange.

so true!
+xTheOxx
I'm a bit older, but the closest my generation got to an Iggy Pop was David Yow.
+xTheOxx LOL on that mention, hilarious.
+xTheOxx Iggy did not scare 99% of the public
+xTheOxx 99 percent of the public didn't even heard of him so cut this bullcrap lol
wow. solid picks.
Marked Men, The Potential Johns, Mind Spiders, Radioactivity - Awesome bands.
On my bucket list to visit this place!
despite the fact they haven’t made a decent album since Siren Song of Counter Culture, these guys seem cool and have some nice picks
Why did this video take 6 months to be released?
It's fantastic, but still.
+Xenon Fae We're backlogged with cool videos. We sometimes shoot episodes faster than we can edit because we get too many great opportunities. Sorry for the wait! Glad you like how it came out.
The Marked Men are awesome btw, check them out!
The Wipers influenced Kurt Cobain and his sound big time!
gogos is love
Woah, these guys know their melodic punk. Impressive!
Longest list 'have to check this out' I've ever made after one of these videos :)

Zack put on his hands "Ratos de porão" from Brazil! yeah
Nice to see for a change where a punk (or alternative rock or whatever) band picks up all punk stuff! Usually its like "ok here's 1 record from the genre you associate me with, now here's a bunch of bluegrass, reggae, and rap..."
AF Live at CBGB, right on! That was a big one for me as a kid too.
Swami, Wipers, Marked Men, Radioactivity... killer takes
I just never understood the big thing about Costello, aside from a couple of old hits.
Damn you Amoeba! My spotify account is so full of music I have to check out! I need to stop watching these videos. So much good shit to catch up on.
Start buying, Spotify doesn’t support bands. Buying their record does.
The Blind Shake fucking rule! Those bald dudes can RIIIIIIIP
My boy TY SEGALLL
Velvet is the sound of heroin.
Oh yeah bug time, who doesnt love rage against the machine! nice
+1m2a3t4t5 They're so dated though.
(just trolling)
***** True, the timelessness of music is present, though it undeniably gets dated.
what is the song at the beginning
Hell yeah! I skate to Agent Orange! That album too!
thanks for the wipers! a type of sound i was looking for. :) reminded me of some of lookout! records (RIP) bands from the 90's, but i didn't dig this kind of music at the time.
Thums up for the Ty Segall - Manipulator CD. it's a hell of an album.
Agent Orange 🔥 🍊 🔥
Was hoping Joe pulled out an 88 Fingers Louie album
you think you can do whats in my bag with HOMESHAKE (peter sagar)
Hey Amoeba,
This series is awesome, Thanks!
It would be great if you would list the recommendations for accessibility's sake.
Keep it up!
+alon z We do list their picks on amoeba.com and always have a direct link to that list in the video description. Hope that helps.
It does, thanks
Gorillaz plastic beach in the background !
Way more important, GY!BE in the background.
Zach knows what's up.
awesome picks
What song is in the beginning?
thank gawd someone finally picked a Stranglers record...
I thought he meant the band Heroin at first. Nope.
I gotta disagree with dude, The Stranglers dont really sound like heroin to me........The leaving trains sound like heroin, The Germs, The Birthday Party, the Swans, THEY ALL sound like heroin, trust me on this.......been clean for a few years now.
Daniel Tittyfish more realistically I'd say some ambient Brian Enough sounds like heroin to me, not any sort of Rock, punk or metal
Do these guys ever listen to anything outside of punk rock ?
+guillll Yeah did you watch the video?
Great choices. I'd hang out with these guys.
Swami. Nuff said
Great musical taste
2:25
Nobody else hear it? That's from one of their songs. I can't think of the song.
Di Lung Move it Ya Fool! it sounds a bit like a part from their song Dancing For Rain, towards the end of the song
Dylan Frazier
It Does sound like it could be from SSOtCC, but also RPM.
Yayyy, an all Vegan/Vegetarian Band.
All bass players live Craig, it’s required.
The RA track playing in the outro sounded like it was a demo to me.
+jc1424 It's just not auto-tuned like 99% of records today
I mean it didn't sound like the one on the record exactly.
Further's Grip Tape record sounds exactly like Dino Jr.
Jake has nice eyes.
what s the song name at 6.56 ?
That track is 'Blue Ghosts' from the album 'The Wolf You Feed'
Who knew these guys were so punk
Rise Against was punk back in the early 2000s. Their first two albums are gold
you'd think for liking some really great stuff they'd be doing something better than making radio bro rock these days.
radio bro rock? they're aging so their singer doesn't like screaming as much as he used to. their songs aren't as mosh pit hardcore sounding as they used to, but the idea behind it is still the same.
purinahalloffame listen to the eco-terrorist in me off of their last record. Doesn't sound like radio bro rock to me.
that's one song out of a whole album of overproduced garbage
they're in their 30s, that's not really old. There are plenty of hardcore and punk dudes putting out heavy music late into their careers. The ideas might be the same, but I think the music has gotten really bad, and I listen to music for the music mainly, not the ideas. I'll read some Hedges, Chomsky, or Hitchens for ideas.
Só dicas feras !!!
Don't Yuck sound like Dinosaur Jnr?
1.44 can see 'Frampton's Camel' in the background
HAGFISH!!
Cool dudes cool band
"This is what heroin sounds like"
Loved marked men, esp gone away
Elvis Costello!
Tell me why he looks like Megamind
He says "this record" way too much
How do you skate to a record?
Think about it.
He said in front of his moms house. He could of easily had a set up in his garage
Dylan Labadie K M8 Don't care it is a dumb statement.
Strung Outs SuburbanTeenageWastelandBlues..... that is all
Ummm Walkman?
Probably had a cassette copy
Nice
amoeba is a world of records,, why take cds?
Not all records are in print, or maybe they already own the record and wanted a CD copy.
I saw Gatefold at the beginning and almost died.
Fuck I wanna listen to some punk now.
DeeZedEx Well, what are you waiting for? Do it!
what the fuck. you mention brett from bad religion but no album from them?? they are the best punk band ever.
I love punk but I'd rather have The Growlers and Dr. Dog
Transistor revolt
I want you is the best Elvis Costello song. Drop mike.
GFFG!
So in short, Joe has been stealing Zach’s copies of that album this whole time 😂
Ratos de Porão
Surprisingly good picks for an ok band
fuzz (y)
these guys look like they have opinions on veganism and bernie sanders
Yes, they do seem smart.
TheTurtlemans dietary and political choices = intelligence LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
+ReallyNotReally and you sound like a judgmental douche.
yates525 stay salty
Veganism is not a dietary choice. It's the choice to treat others with respect rather than inflict pain on them.
Rise Against sucks but there is a lot of good stuff going on in this video...good taste.
why do you think they suck?
mark cooper Sufferer and Witness is a good album imo. The last two ones however... Awful.
Siren. Song. Of. Counter. Culture. the perfect 2000s punk album. The rest of their stuff is weak as balls tho
Rise Against used to be a Fat Wreck Chords band. Check out The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute. If it were 2003, you'd be all over Rise Against.
