Holy crap, Matt Pike looks great after giving up the booze!
Ha! My 1st. impression was this is an old video, then I saw the date and thought..or maybe he just quit booze.
@@Morbidous he had to. Had his toe amputated last year due to his diabetes. Quit the booze fully and is leading a much healthier lifestyle. Still partakes in the usage of Marijuana which there nothing wrong with that
I was about to write the same!
yesss!!!
Kind of a babe
Damn, Matt's looking healthy: Good shit, man!
How nice to come across an established metal band that isn't embarrassed about still listening to metal!
Are there bands who make metal and are ashamed of listening to it?
@@gillaliglaou2840 Oh yeah, I used to come across it a lot in my interviewing days - especially nu-metal bands who wanted to show they had "sophisticated" tastes. That said, it was cool how much Type O Negative used to talk about loving The Beatles.
@@charlescampbell-jones6317 that's just embarassing.
I really hate it when metal bands try to prove how un-metal they are in interviews and such. It’s really fucking annoying and pretentious!
@@Knightovwandz I've definitely seen some of that. I don't get it. You play metal, yet you don't listen to it? Right. You shouldn't feel ashamed to enjoy ANY kind of music and to openly celebrate it.
“Ditch school and do acid… that’s why I am the way I am.”
And God bless you because you ditched school and did Acid, Mr. Pike, otherwise we wouldn’t have any of your great music.
Metal dudes: the more brutal their music, the nicer they are in person :)
Yes this is correct
Except mayhem
@@nordicsilver9675 wrong: Attila, Necrobutcher, Hellhammer and Teloch are pretty chill dudes in person
Leave the rage on the stage
except black metal
I'm actually really happy to see that Pike is into Bolt Thrower. Best band to ever exist. Hail Bolt Thrower.
Yes, mate!! Saw them at Damnation Fest in Leeds a few years ago; they were fucking monumental.
Anytime someone says they love Metal, but don't know who Bolt Thrower is I immediately don't trust them.
everybody loves bolt thrower
punks, metal heads, hardcore kids, grindcore weirdos, etc
wow matt... no belly, healthy looking, really great. one of the best musicians alive, so glad to see he's doing great.
Do Electric Wizard next
They don't pick who comes on their show, if they see a famous band or artists in their shop, they'll asked them to film. They don't ring people up and ask them to come in.
^
Cameron im like, 90% certain this is mostly a promotional method for artists. Meaning its the artists that reach out, and amoeba that already has availability to help the promotion via this show. Most of these artists just released something new when they come on.
Also btw ive watched electric wizard live, they’re quite hard to listen to. Not tight at all. But then church of misery came next... and well... ya
@@matt.pma.kresnaputra5458 the reason that artists have just released something when they come on is cos most artists follow up their album releases with tours, but yes, sometimes they may reach out to artists, but usually they'll reach our to mainstream artists, not smallish metal bands like this.
Matt rocking Opeth and Bolt Thrower. Just another reason why he's in my top 3 guitar players of all time.
I'd love one episode with uncle acid & the deadbeats
Can't be a bad episode if people pick Converge and Bolt Thrower
And if its Matt Pike who picked it!
No shit, Bolt Thrower is horribly underrated
@@paulpz04 So is Hawkwind,
Altin Gün, Celtic Frost,... I'm not even half way through yet and I know these two guys have great taste in music. It's awesome to see musicians who REALLY appreciate music. The fact that it's Pike and Matz just adds to the awesomeness of it.
@@wymcoupe9335 .I've never listened to the last 2 u mentioned I'll check em out..have you heard All Them Witches outta Nashville (I think)..not necessarily the same genre but I think you'll like..Charles Williams, When God Comes Back, The Death of Coyote Woman, Passageways, etc.. all good ones by them
Tell me about it....
I Love when musicians show Love to other genres. For example when someone in a death metal band wears a thin lizzy t-shirt. Or when a jazz musician wears a morbid angel t-shirt
Yes, great musicians never listen to 1 genre exclusively
They covered my favorite song ever , "Vagabond of the western world" by Thin Lizzy 😉
like when John Zorn plays a jazz gig with a cannibal corpse t-shirt, its cool to see the love go far
Thin Lizzy is the GOAT
Love Matt so much. What an absolute legend of a lad.
Matt is looking great!
Matt is a "true" metalhead, much respect
Get Scott 'Wino' Weinrich on here. It's been long overdue.
Matt and Jeff are some of metal's finest. Long live High On Fire!
Bolzer & Oranzi Pazuzu. Wow. What brilliant picks.
Brought back fond memories of going to see the Grindcrusher tour thirty or so years ago, Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Carcass and Bolt Thrower all on the same bill.
me too. country club in reseda ca
@sikk fukken kunt It was but they did a brief US package tour. They played at the country club in Reseda. It was bad ass, Bolt Thrower, Napalm D, etc. My buddy worked for Geffen at time and we got passes in.
Ditching school and dropping acid to Exodus, i love you Matt.
Weed. Weed is in your bag.
Well Matt Pike on a Bike, I'd say hell yes, right next to the partial sheet of blotter acid ("Let's goto...ha... Amoeba...Muha..ha..buy some...blaah ha RECORDS...HA HA HAAAA!!") & 3 foot tall/8 man hookah
Loved that Oranssi Pazuzu pronunciation
Whenever HOF puts a record out it’s always my favorite album that year.
a tour with high on fire and oranssi pazuzu sounds perfect. do it. do iiiiiit
Seriously
I've never tried to smuggle a bong into a show before, but...
They played together at psycho
Celtic Frost’s cover of Mexican Radio 📻 places high on my Top 5 list of best covers ever. 🦎
Damn girl you kickass!
Been waiting to see Matt on here for ages, so cool you guys finally got him.
Is that Soundgarden's Superunknown album I can spot at 4:57
Sure is.
Mos Def
yup spotted that too..
are you saying that soundgarden is his guilty pleasure?
Not the biggest HOF fan but boy do they have good taste, especially Matz. That Pandemonium and Bolzer pick was so cool but then Pike drops Oranssi Pazuzu, Necrot and fucking Watershed! Awesome dudes, glad you featured them!
Matt buying a opeth CD made my day
Matt Pike is a fkn legend. One of my absolute favorite artists. He's like the Dimebag of Doom.
Oh heck yea Oranssi Pazuzu! First time I saw someone picking up our country's gems on this series. Cheers from Finland Matt and keep on rocking!
Don't know why I'm always close to drop a tear when someone picks up a Miles Davis record, especially from that era. Thanks!
I like how they don’t even know what Warhammer is but are super into Bolthrower.
“It’s some roleplaying game.”
i've heard sleep plays D&D so maybe that was a camera save ;)
Love Matt and Jeff! Thanks for this!
I love how most musicians are music nerds. A field of interest that promotes passion for sure.
Omg Pike picked Hawkwind, I somehow love him even more now
Matt Pike has a killer selection as expected. Got almost all the records in my collection btw. and always great to see Gary Moore is included.
You have to agree Blessed Black Wings is the best
Get Yob Here for What’s in my bag
I second this
Dont know why they didnt just pick em up when they did the green room session at amoeba
M.K.S PMA they coulda done the same 13 years ago when HOF played amoeba live. Or when OM played there the same year in 2007.
YOB is LIFE YOB is LOVE \m/
Love how they both pick Wolfbrigade and Jeff, thanks for setting me on to Altin Gün!
"NIGHT OF THE WARM WITCH"
IS MY FAVORITE SKID ROW SONG ALSO !!
THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME
Great picks. Glad to see Pike looking so well. First time I recall seeing Celtic Frost and Bolt Thrower mentioned on What's In My Bag? Gotta check out some of Jeff's more obscure finds.
"They're hard to mess with musically."
"Yeah, they're guitar demons, dude."
I also watched the video
killer picks, right out the gate with altin gun too. love high on fire
Nice to see some love for the original Irish Skid Row!
Good ole brush .
For some reason it made me so happy that Matt said he’s boys with converge
Really nice to finally see here people whose music is near and dear to my heart. Definitely going to check out picks I'm unfamiliar with
HAWKWIND, nice. Some good stuff there.
killer selections! One of my most fave episodes and it was posted on my birthday hehe
Thank you Amoeba! This RULES!
I am still forever grateful to Jeff Matz for introducing me to Altin Gün
Love Matt Pike, and have to say he looks great here. Listened to the first couple HoF albums, saw them a million times but haven't heard the recent albums. Gonna get back into this band now that I've seen this video, thanks Amoeba.
And he picked Watershed :D My fav album of theirs.
F*** YES. Of course they took this seriously and brought the eclectic fire.
Matt Pike is the amalgamation of every metalhead dude that works at guitar center
In my bag would be Electric Messiah by High on Fire. Never heard of you guys, picked it up for the art work, and it’s now one of my favourite metal records. Brilliant from start to finish. Love it.
Matt is my all time favourite musician!❤
In Battle There Is No Law was the first non big 4 tape I ever got. It scared my parents so it made me happy.
Best mixed bag I've seen to date....
This is my new fav What's In My Bag.
Technical Chaos is the best Converge description ever.
Third time hearing Selda in the What's in my bag series!! Awesome!!
I saw them back in November. Caught Jeff’s pick. My ears are still ringing.
Altin Gün was such a great recommendation. Thanks, Jeff!
Been waiting for this one. Thank you!!
Excellent and eclectic choices. I'm a new fan to these guys.
I love these videos, I get to discover amazing bands!
Just wanted to echo the sentiment of happiness for Matt. Knew I was gunna enjoy this, but for even more reason now.
These guys have their shit together, and then he pulls out Miles Live/evil and I go "YES"
Thank you for this. Peace.
Love those dudes!! Thanks for including these Wizards! ❤️☕️
Wow! Matt is lookin fit and awake. Very happy to see that. Also, Matz is just plain cool.
Great choices, matt seems so humble
its about time that you posted this!
I'm new to Amoeba serious, but it's one of my favorite places to find new music. I wish there was one in Atlanta. Alas, we are not worthy!
‘Just became a fan a few months ago. Awesome dudes!
Alex Borrego never too late!
Why is he wearing a shirt?! What is this...
We seem to have fallen into an alternate reality where Matt doesn't have exposed nipples.
@@jonathanedwards9254 The shirt was a Mandela effect
Expected this comments
He's shirtless under the shirt
This impostor really thinks he can fool us all with his shirted antics.
2:08 absolutely love the way Matt said "of course I got it!!"
Captain beefheart rules
Tropical Hotdog Night !!
Meat Puppets rules too!!!
@@vinyldiary6664 so does badmotorfinger keep the faith !!
Great taste is reflected in their own incredible music!
I was so stoked to see this in my recommendations, I clicked on it faster than Matt plays the guitar!
Was looking forward to him talking about Soundgarden since he had the superunknown cd
Matt Pike loves Bolt Thrower.... I was pretty sure I could hear their influence in HoF, now I know I was right. Awesome \m/
So awesome they picked Bölzer. This might be the best picks in the whole 'what's in my bag' series i ever saw.
Damn - So many great sounding bands I learned about fro the episode. If Matt Pike is recommending it I know its good
Well this was fun!!! I had that Bolthtrower on cassette. My and my buddy would get high and walk around Golden Gate and share the Walkman to that one.
Matt, you look amazing! So glad you reversed whatever you were doing and will be able to give us more years of kicking ass
Awesome! Now there's another Skid Row for me to check out! I never knew there was another Skid Row band prior to the 80's glam band.
I totally ❤️ Matt and Jeff!
This was killer! Thank you
Not a single questionable choice here. Please do that tour with Oranssi Pazuzu.
Best episode yet. Cheers :)
Super interesting. Thanks guys!
i had the biggest smile on my face watching this video
Metal guys always have a diverse music taste and influences...cool
Love Matt! Sleep forever!
Hell yes for mentioning the Middle Eastern / Anatolian psyche !
anyone else notice soundgarden's superunknown in matt's bag.
Amazing album! Closer to doom than grunge!
@@theeverchosen1504 lol....not even close. The title track is pop ffs.
@@boofert.washington2499 Limo Wreck? 4th July? Head down? Whole album is very stoner
@@boofert.washington2499 Mailman, half, Like Suicide?
Anyone that Worship Soundgarden is doing it right in my book. One of the best bands ever! RIP Soundgarden \m/
never had heard of necrot until now. what an amazing band!!!
Ah yes, I've been waiting for this one!
I've been a bolt thrower fan for years and I'm only now discovering that they're based on a board game. I gotta check this out.
Jeff and Matt....killer musicians. Great taste in tunes. Great band! Killer to shoot the shit with at shows.
