Just learned about Riley passing away and I’m just in shock. He was such a down to earth guy and he always seemed like he would be a really good best friend RIP
Decided to come back to this video after hearing about Riley's passing. So fucking sad, these guys were the first thrash band I got into. Rest in power Riley
Mike Burch nothing wrong with that either. Just growing up a lot of the metalheads I knew felt the need to tell everybody that everything else sucked haha
At my university metal club there were people into Melt-Banana, Flaming Lips, Gravediggaz, Sun Ra, and Slowdive. It was the "indie" dweebs who had the most same-y taste in my experience.
Rest in peace, Riley. It was a pleasure to have met and talked to you. Your screams will continue to run through each venue Power Trip has played in. You're one of the best frontman ever to have touched a mic.
1. You can listen to Shoegaze AND Death Metal. I'm a fan of Bolt Thrower AND Slowdive, this is just stupid to say that the death metal guy won't be interested by shoegaze. 2. The Shoegaze guy is in the band because he's talented and helped producing one of the greatest thrash album in the past few years so shut up. 3. You guys are incredibly stupid. thanks for watching.
The song in the begining (00:10) is Nightmare Logic. The song ending the video (13:08) is Crucifixation. Both by Power Trip, from the album Nightmare Logic.
They've influenced so many bands but as is typical, they rarely get any credit. I was even a bit shocked myself when I heard the riff to 'Tabazan' in this video!
I really love how aggresive bands like Slayer, Pantera and even Power Trip have some love for soft music, I mean It's like the Death Angel vocalist that loves Elton John that's so damn cool.
I go from Neil Young to Darkthrone all in a day. Maybe some Bone Thugs or The Cult. Top it off with some Smashing Pumpkins. Metal is my main love, but I enjoy different types of music depending on my mood. Lol
You can definitely tell that Power Trip are hugely influenced by the Cromags. With that being said you know they probably already have all of the Cromags records on vinyl.
Love these guys. Really sucks Riley passed away. Hope they carry on in his honor. These guys are old school thrash metal. Straight to the point brutal, badass transitions and tempo changes in almost every song, and overall badassery! 🤘🤘
their music isn't as varied as their tastes. that's not an insult though. they stick to what they do well, which is writing tight songs that kick your ass and also have great atmosphere. they just craft their songs super well. something as simple as the noisy intro of Executioner's Tax transitioning to the chug, then adding in the main riff is so goddamn memorable. by the time the vocals come in, you've already heard an awesome song.
Jacob Rodriguez I don’t know if I agree with them being labeled a crossover band. To me when I think crossover I think more DRI or Municipal Waste. These guys are pretty straight thrash to me. Remind me of Arise era Sepultura.
Holy shit. Still sounds unreal. Rest in Power, Riley, very self-less and a totes chill down-to-earth guy. Just been watching an Elliot Fullam interview day before the news. Man, 2020 is one of the worst years in a while
Yeah, it’s no surprise to see their tastes are so diverse, they’re buddies with This Will Destroy You and have played with them before; have also talked to Riley before and learned that he’s a big fan of Cave In and Piebald even after both bands left their heavy phases. I respect these guys so much both on a musical and personal level.
I loved this. As a huge fan of Power Trip but also a fan of just about everything, I’m honestly glad to see that the metal scene I grew up in has evolved as much as it has. Gone are the days where we had “guilty pleasures” we were shamed for. Like what you like and keep an open mind. As far as I know, there’s no “shitty” music, just different tastes. Glad the PT dudes are as versed in some of the more obscure stuff.
That fact that Riley had Al Greene and Marvin in his bag, specifically the Belle and Troubleman Albums like dude that spoke to my soul!!!! Rest In Peace Riley, you absolute Legend.
Blur's "Leisure" , Killing Joke and The Verve "Storm in Heaven"?!! I didn't think I could love these guys more. Yet here we are. I'm gonna buy a nice Power Trip long sleeve and rep these guys. They're music is mint thrash.
zr riff some of the cheapest living in the United States, gun laws, open carry and no state taxes. Only thing dumb about it is marijuana is still illegal.
When you ask a metalhead of their influences, you can expect a massively wide range of unexpected styles. For me it's classical, jazz fusion, 80's new wave, classic country, old school rap, and all the thrash, death metal, black metal, doom, traditional metal, limited hardcore, et al.
I really like artists, and people in general, who listen to all different genres of music. I think that it shows these people have an open mind about many things and are willing to experience things that are outside the realm of whatever their general norm is. For instance, I listen to quite a bit of extreme punk and extreme metal, but I love, love, love Latin jazz, American standards jazz, trip-hop, downbeat, and ambient electronica. People are always surprised, when they find out that I listen to such disparate genres.
Rest In Power Riley Gale! Bolt Thrower also broke up because their drummer died. Quote from the band: "We spent over 20 years together, touring the world, with 3 different vocalists, but he was so much more than just a drummer to us. So when we carried his coffin to his final resting place, the Bolt Thrower drummer position was buried with him. He was, and will now forever remain THE Bolt Thrower drummer, our Powerhouse and friend Martin 'Kiddie' Kearns."

Those Once Loyal is my favourite Bolt Thrower album.
