That shot of cars driving on the left side of the road brought up all the past anxiety of driving in Japan - "Honey, look at this view!" / "No, I can't. I'm concentrating too hard on NOT KILLING US ALL!"
Kyde and Eric are my favorite marathons. After watching for ... 8 years? It's started to feel like watching my friends' adventures. You guys help these quarantine times feel a lot less lonely
Hi Kyde &Eric just seen this in my notification , put a thumbs up before I started watching knowing its going to be a great video same as all your other ones , you never let us down , thanks for shareing this been looking forward to it , :-) :-)
Natsukashi! I went to Shikoku many times in the 70's since I was married to a guy from Sakaide in Kagawa. I remember the udon, the temple with the stairs and the unusually shaped hills so well.
Both of you deserve more subs, been a sub to this channel for a long time now. Your content whether in Japan or anywhere else is fun and informative. Wishing you guys all the best for the future adventure.
This is one of my favourite videos you've shot in Japan. Can't wait to visit this temple when I go next year. Will be working a lot but hopefully will have a moment to escape to Shikoku! Maybe visit a Japanese friend I knew back in college who lives in Kagawa!
@@kydeanderic Oh definitely will! I'll be living in Tokyo in March (if Covid calms down a bit) so hopefully I'll get to try a bunch of the foods I see you both eat! Always jealous and hungry when I watch! :D
I’m living in EHIME and came across this video. I visited Takamatsu and a few islands around there for Setouchi Triennale this spring and was fun. I hope you enjoy Shikoku trip and love his T-shirts especially Bjork!!
Thank you for taking me back up Konpirasan. I climbed all the way up to the top where you were in the middle of August 2011. I was a sweaty, hot mess, but it was worth it. I remember when I got up there, there was only one couple who was taking a rest. If I remember there's a stone bench on the left side just before the last stairs to that small shrine. One of the sandals that I used to hike up there was gaping because the heat melted the glue that was holding the strap to the side. Thank god it held up until I got back to my hotel in Takamatsu. I wonder if you guys saw the huge wooden lantern near the Kotoden train station?
I know this might sound weird but I just got home from a minor operation feeling fragile and battered and completely out of sorts. This video popped up in my inbox and I was able to just sit back and for an hour enjoy your lovely, calm, relaxed style and make my aches and pains ebb away. Thank You
the coin floats easier in that larger pool of water than say, a glass because when you place the coin down youre causing less ripples to be reflected back to where the coin is which breaks surface tension and will cause the coin to fall.
Shikoku is the most overlooked and (maybe) coolest place to visit. Everyone should check out the Shikoku Pilgramage. Also btw, pretty amazing to see how Love Hotels are changing. Thanks for the vid as always and enjoy your travels!
I always wondered about the car thing too. I was taught that turning a car on and off like that waste more gas. I always thought that only hybrid cars turn off at stops.
In England, the outside hallway is termed a cloister. Normally associated with priories and cathedrals. And often used for films (Harry Potter #1) and picturesque weddings of course :)
@53:19 There's such a thing as a female urinal. My undergrad dorm had converted from all-women and still had an old one which we guys used. It's tilted at like a 45 degree angle. Made much more sense when the ladies wore skirts or dresses.
I just came back from Japan two days ago and I’d stayed at the 9 hours capsule hotel in Asakusa. I totally recognized all of those landmarks you had walked through. I was even commenting to my husband that it would be so cool if we ever ran into Kyde and Eric in Japan. Didn’t knew you guys lived in that area. We were in Takayama on Saturday of the typhoon and just got rain only. Thanks for a great video, we discovered you guys when you did the Myanmar series and we were doing our research. Every time we travel to another country, we would say “google to see if Kyde and Eric hit that country yet!”
A very polished snappy-paced video jam-packed with interesting stuff...and, indeed, what's a Kyde and Eric video without a love hotel tour and a public bathroom facility review?
i rented a nissan highway star that had something more irritating than eco mode. It had an accident avoidance system that beeped and flashed a radar like symbol in the instrument display. Even when rounding corners oncoming cars would set it off. Turning off eco mode is easy but i never found out how to turn off that damn thing.
We have a VW Golf that turns itself off but the feature can be disabled with the push of a button, it doesn’t tell you how long you spent stopped though.
I now watch it in big, instead of on my phone 😊 in my comfy home. After 8 days of bedrest and the start of an immunotherapie in the hospital I think I am getting better 🙂 ans lots of Kyde and Eric rewatch it will get better even faster 😉
Man, I wish I had the time next year to do more of Japan. If you had to chose 3 days around Hiroshima, or 3 days to do the New Golden Route, which would you do?
I had to google what the new golden route is, but at a glance 3 days to do that doesn't seem like enough. We don't know a ton about Hiroshima as we have only been there briefly, but the peace park is stunning. -E
@Eric start stop engine is a fuel saving feature all modern cars have now, as you end using a lot of fuel while idling in standstill traffic. the engine cuts off after the car been stationary for certain amount of time.
This was so fun! I'm a history nerd so I would have been so excited on the way up the stairs. Then I'd have died because I'm really out of shape, but it'd be a good death. xD
The covered bridge/path thing is called a breezeway. I loved that temple. The coin thing is amazing. I would spend too much time and money trying to see just how much I could float. lol

The "love hotel with garage directly under room" thing is VERY popular in the city where I'm from, Hialeah Florida. The street that most of them are on, Okeechobee Blvd, used to be a really seedy place in the 80s with crack houses and rampant prostitution - when they finally cleaned it up in the 90s, they started putting up these fancy new love hotels (Executive Presidente Hotel, El Paraiso Motel) with that same layout.
