Sure seems like Japan is overflowing with tourists these past few years. My hunch is that this “school” was strictly conceived a tourist business. One big giveaway is, there’s a sheer lack of cogency. Giving any kind of lesson in any “school” isn’t as easy as some business people think. As it looks, it can be almost entirely non-sensical. The udon noodle cutting sheet is another clue. In research, it’s been brought up that people who tend to be monolingual and monocultural tend to have a harder time understanding other ways of seeing things. They don’t even check to see if every table got an egg. I shake my head. But on another thought, isn’t the pot of water suppose to be boiling before noodles are added?
Your Love Hotel room tours are always an adventure in itself! You guys have convinced me I'm going to have to experience an overnight stay at one at least once in my lifetime.
Really enjoyed this video! I read about the Iya Valley with the vine bridges and peeing boy statue in the book "Lost Japan" (and wanted to go there when I read about it!) so it was great to see it in the video!
The udon dough Kyde made from scratch couldn't be cut/cooked during the class because the dough needs to proof/rest, usually for a few hours, beforehand; i.e., it wouldn't be practical for folks taking the class to wait that long before cutting/cooking. Another great video.
Most often dough need to be refrigerated for several hours before cooking. That's why they gave you dough that was already "aged" and then let you take home the dough you made. Loved the video. Thanks for sharing it.
OMG, those boulders are signs of some serious earthquakes. Whenever you see very hard rocks with striped colours you know they are metamorphic rocks, created by immense pressure and heat when two of the Earth's tectonic plates crush each other. These mountains used to be the ocean seabed and have been squeezed up into the air.
What an incredible view at 25:08. I could look at that all day. Thanks guys. Edit - 27:40 isn't bad either, wow. Reminds me of Softypapa's old videos walking around the Japanese countryside.
This was just nuts from start to finish and I freaking love it, looks like so much fun! Definitely on my list of places to try to get to, the little train thing is amazing. Kinda doubt there's a ton of public transit though, but hey, I can totally go stomp some udon to Gangnam Style. Thanks for sharing, this was a lot of fun!
thanks Kyde & Eric for another great video , I love when I get a notification for another one of your videos , thank you for shareing looking forward for many more to come :-)
When I used to think of Japan, I thought mostly of the urban areas. I really appreciate that your vlog has showed me the incredible natural beauty! I mean, I knew it was a bunch of islands and that there were mountains involved. But you've really showed it to us. Thank you.
💜💜💜💜💜💜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜 as I am a chef always looking to learn something new💜💜💜💜💜💜 but you got too dance gangdem style.😂😂😂😂😂💜💜💜💜💜💜 love the way you go with flow no real plan ....making memories...... Adult hotels.... Interesting😉😉😉😉😉
Hey kyde and Eric. Just wanted to thank you for the amazing content. I remember I found your channel from watching your first 711 video. When I saw Eric, he reminded me of my best friend I lost recently at that time to leukemia. So in a weird way, it was like watching my friend alive again living in Japan. I miss him a lot and watching your videos always filled that void. Thank you kyde and Eric for making these wonderful vlogs. Much love from Chicago. You guys should do another throwback 711 vlog 🖖
I believe that ride you took is based on cars Japanese farmers used to bring equipment and harvest up and down the mountains! Small rails and the cars are flat - used to bring bamboo poles down. So many farms were up in the mountains and the farmers lived in or near those little villages. Fun video, thanks for sharing!!
The noodle class and monorail was something else. I'm glad E still has knees. XD The love hotel was very nice though! I wish we had those here in america. We have nothing anywhere near so modern and swanky. ;-) Thanks for the video. :-D
yea! I lived in Tokushima Ken for a while! along highway 55! I hope you got the chance to drive it... one of my favorite roads.... as always, I love the series! so happy to follow along! I hope to join you on patreon soon!
Great job, Kyde! That udon class stressed me out. I would have been so upset. LOL. It seemed like my worst nightmare - hate not knowing what to do - but you handled it like champ.
Oh my god, I can't believe it, I just noticed Eric was wearing a Smashing Pumpkins t shit! Not sure if it's dorky for me to point that out, but I'm from the 90's, I thought they were just brilliant, and I haven't seen anyone reference them in so long.
I agree. The monorail ride would have been more fun, if it had been shorter. But with the amount of time that passed, it made "Driving miss Daisy" look like "The Fast and the Furious".
Something just clicked last night for me. Everytime I head Sakurajima, it had seemed familiar, but I had never been to Kagoshima. I had an annual pass to Universal Studios Japan, I remember it is the ward and the line to the train(the last stop) is called Sakurajima.
That was so full on even just watching this udon class was so hectic I can’t imagine what it was like to be there 😂 thanks again this was a great video again 😀🇬🇧🏴
Great vid! Just found your channel. I'm moving to Japan in October (likely Kagawa) I know Kagawa is known for Udon but do you feel like they have other good Japanese food there? Like Okonomiyaki, Ramen, etc? Or do you have to go to Osaka for the good stuff :) Thanks!
It has all the normal stuff, but usually you have to travel to specific places in Japan to find the "best" of a special item. Shikoku is awesome, enjoy your adventure! -E
Udon facts: the recipe really is just flour, water and salt 😁 the reason you were given a pre-made dough is cuz the dough need to rest overnight. If you don’t rest it, the noodles will break apart easily when boiled. Stepping on the dough is necessary because 99.9% of people don’t have the upper body strength to knead a dough as dry as udon haha and kneading is what give udon it’s chewy-ness To be fair, the class should’ve maybe explained a bit of this, to like….impart some actual knowledge of something lol Sorry for geeking out…as a line cook, I can’t help it 🥲
I was not super interested in visiting Japan, until I saw this OMG that cooking class looks so fun. Side note, it's awesome to hear you guys saying fuck and shit lol keep it up! :-)
Haha, Japan is an awesome place to explore but that udon class isn't super representative of what you'll usually come across, hahaha. -E Oh, fuck, shit.
As for that train, I was expecting it to disengage at the top of the hill and send you downhill at speed. I assumed that was why you needed to pee first :) And it as odd to see the love hotel info in English as we thought that was an essentially Japanese thing.
4mm is tiny..lol looks so weird what’s going on .. soo funny .. do you like to live in Japan because of this.. Most things you seem to do have a very crazy funny element to it..great work guys
Oh my goodness! LMFAO. Y'all are so innocent at the Love Hotel. Y'all definitely need to try one of the BDSM rooms just for fun and 'educational' videos. Much love from Houston, Tx. 😂💙😂💙
Your videos remind me so much of the old Clive James TV show when he visited Japan, and the crazy alternative things he did. Doesnt' look like you have ever visited New Zealand yet, there are a lot of weird thing over here too but it is very pricey compared to Japan. Which is kind of ironic since when I was in Japan in the 90's, Japan was very expensive, but it doesn't look like prices have gone up since then.
Ok this is officially the wildest video I’ve seen from you guys and the title is so unassuming 🤣🤣 Also when you were in that udon class all I could think about was comparing it to that really chill sausage making class you did a few years back. I feel like that class was like you were living in a Japanese commercial.
I am guessing udon dough have to be left for few hours or maybe a day or so, before cut in to the shape and eaten, which is a common way to gives better texture to the udon. That is maybe the reason why the school didn't let you eat the dough you stepped on at the spot. I think they should explain it or if their English skill isn't good enough to do so, they must make a written paper or something to let you guys know what you are doing. (^ へ ^ ; )
this has got to be the funniest video you have ever done. It started with half-assed noodle instruction, segued into beetle mountain slow coaster, and I’m now obsessed with “Dark Espania”

I’ve been watching your videos all day
Your Love Hotel room tours are always an adventure in itself! You guys have convinced me I'm going to have to experience an overnight stay at one at least once in my lifetime.
That udon “cooking” class seemed absolutely chaotic. LOL.
So Good !. The only Channel I get excited about when the videos are even movie length !!!.... Giddy UP!
Am watching this almost 2 years late, sincerely hope you sent some folks to that cooking school without explanation. :D
Really enjoyed this video! I read about the Iya Valley with the vine bridges and peeing boy statue in the book "Lost Japan" (and wanted to go there when I read about it!) so it was great to see it in the video!
Oh neat, cool you knew of that stuff! -E
I enjoyed the udon bit immensely! The chaos, the madness. And two bowls of udon when I expected zero😅 and the place is really, really beautiful. Wow.
Bestest episode! Well they all are great!
Gotta love those love hotels! Seriously, looking like a decent (hmm) alternative to hotels and airbnbs.
The udon dough Kyde made from scratch couldn't be cut/cooked during the class because the dough needs to proof/rest, usually for a few hours, beforehand; i.e., it wouldn't be practical for folks taking the class to wait that long before cutting/cooking. Another great video.
5:50 the song is little apple by chopstick brothers, was popular with old lady morning exercise in china
That makes sense. -E

I was so hoping they never figured out what the BSM room was for and got one. The reaction would have been priceless.
Oh, I loved that train! I'm terrified of roller coasters but I think I could handle that. And the view would be worth it!
The love hotels are quite funny. Pay to get out. Love you videos.

U guys ROCK.
Thanks!

Great video, as always! Thanks for sharing
Listening while getting ready, will have to WATCH second half when have more time; very visual.
27:01 I forgot you guys went to Sweden not too long ago 😅
@23:00 the whole time i was imagining a human form of “conveyor belt sushi” made for mountain bears.
I was expecting it to break down ...next to a tethered goat
HhaHAHaha

That was the best love hotel ever.
Hahaha, I know, right!

YEa, I know what you are talking about, you might be right!
Did they say it was part of an onsen complex? Was it so you could do your forest bathing with minimal effort?
The noodle class and monorail was something else.
I'm glad E still has knees.
XD
The love hotel was very nice though!
I wish we had those here in america.

Thanks for the video.

This was one of the most enjoyable videos to watch! Thanks again guys!
Glad you enjoyed!
Noodle school is pure chaos!
LOVED that cooking class. My mind would have been blown. fun

the udon making class was probably catered for the chinese tourists. really enjoying your videos! thanks a million!

Is it just me or couldn't the big noodles Kyde cut be cut again to make them narrower? Is that some kind of faux pas in the Noodle making world?
That's what I asked, but oh well, we got two portions. Haha. -E
