To me the most quintessential Japanese thing is finding a vending machine in the middle of nowhere but a close second would be music erupting from a hidden speaker in an equally deserted place. Maybe the bears like sodas and music
I must applaud your timing on this video, I get home from work and find a postcard with a picture of Kyde in sunglasses 😎 and start watching this video 👍👍👍
that bing bong in the back ground gets me everytime , been to japan 8 times and i miss it alot , love your stuff , take care in this chaos that is the world at the moment
You guys are so fun to watch because you are so detailed about your descriptions and you are willing to travel to places that the tourists don't always go. You two are special
Hey! That moment you realize what was missing from your life. You two literally made my day! I think I've told you this a hundred times or more...Japan is an astonishing country! That sand installation was uber cool... Oh gosh....this video was so...I have no words...fantastic? Cheers!
That first minute statue.. I knew.. I knew this was going to be a good video 😂😂😂👌 this is why I love you guys.. seeing and showing the things that really matter and what the people must see.
I love those places you visited, too. The exhibition of the sand museum is also amazing. When I visited the sand museum the theme was about Scandinavian culture, though.
Nice video! Too bad the camels were in the garage for maintenance after the weekend, they would have added to the whole desert/mirage atmosphere. We have made reservations for a camper trip Osaka/Shikoku/Kyushu/Honshu for the end of november, Tottori is on the list, even the date of december 6 seems workable. Now all we need is Japan opening its doors for tourists again, details…
I haven't seen any of your vlogs since your visit to Hawaii some years ago, so finding you again was very interesting due to your visit to Tottori. My father was born in Tottori and left Japan in his teens to avoid being forced into the military. My mother's side of the family lived in Matsue, and her older sister was married to the Mayor that built Miho Bay so that ships could dock and unload cargo after WWII. I've never visited Tottori, so your vlog was a welcome to me.
Eric I love your enthusiasm about the ground water. Both the oasis and this spring are similar, they are just at a different scale. In this case the water is soaking in nearby and then seeping out at the bottom of a hill. In the middle of a big desert it’s the same process, the water just travels a longer distance. I also loved the physical geography image discussion!
Welcome to Sanin. Both Shimane and Tottori are rural, and were you surprised that there were few people in the city? Please come to Shimane Prefecture next time.
Not sure what you did differently in this video but it was great. Perhaps the flow and timing were on point. Anyway, beans were definitely being given.
We had the exact same problem trying to find food next to Izumo-Taisha. We ended our visit when the sun went down, but then all the restaurants in the area were closed. We ended up taking the bus back to the station and managed to find an excellent tabehoudai shabu-shabu place close by. Generally, when we fail to find food in small places, we usually fallback on the area next to train stations. Granted, it might not be the best food or the most local fare, but then again, you still get to eat something other than combini food.
4:26 they boiled a fresh-out-da-keister egg. Older eggs(5-10 days refrigerated, idk for shelf stable) will hard boil and the shell n egg separate easier. Boil(just),off heat/covered, sit for 10 min, ice bath 14 min.
Awesome video! I loved the googly eye treats, so funny lol. It's incredible the different landscapes that you both find in Japan. Looking forward to the house video in the future!
"Can sand make rocks?" You mean like ... sandstone? 😁 Sorry, couldn't help myself. Hey, congrats on the new house! Must be a huge change from the small apartment. Enjoyed the video as usual 👍
You just keep finding more places in Japan that make me want to go even more. Those sand dunes were awesome, and yeah, deserts are full of life when you get down to sand level. I lived in Tucson for about a year and the amount of plants an lizards and cacti were kind of amazing. And please don't worry about the time off, you needed it for the whole buying the house and moving thing! Thanks as always for taking us along, this was really cool!
Having seen the original Eric Hitchhiking across Hokkaido Series and most of your other videos, i really chuckled at your joke Eric (16:10) ! Have you eaten any recently ? Are there any new flavours ? When i last visited the country, i actually bought some to have a taste, just because of you !
Yay you guys are back!! I was getting a little worried but figured you guys were busy. Fukui is not far behind from Tottori. It took a while for Starbucks to get here, so there is hope..LOL. Also Eric something different about you, but can't put my finger on it ;P
Great to have your "geologic" knowledge, Eric! This is the most comprehensive description of the dunes we have yet seen. (Who was the proofreader on the title card?)
Holy crap guys, was that star photo legit? That's amazing, I'll have to add stargazing to my itinerary for next trip. It looked like a pretty area to travel to too. Hope you're settling in to the house a bit! P.s. cool tache
Yea, it's real, but it's camera trickery a bit, you can leave the shutter open for a few seconds and the camera can see more stars than you can see with your eyes. That said, if you ever have a chance to go somewhere that the sky is super clear and dark you should do it, seeing the milky way is craaaazy. -E
As someone who has spent a few years in SoCal and Arizona having spent ample time in the Sonora and Mojave deserts, the Tottori sand "dunes" will never be included in my travel itinerary. Oh, Tottori, that this is your claim to fame!
ok finally done with the sheep, by the way really loved the bit with the googly poop, and the sand museum was really impressive, i would like to know how they preserve the sculputures , do they have people who fix them or maybe they control the climate in that space to preserve them
Hi Tottori Prefecture, there is "Mizuki Shigeru Road", which is famous for youkai comics, and youkai statues are displayed on the sidewalk. Did you go?.
DUNES! SAND! Don't eat sand! Thanks for going to Tottori. I've always wanted to visit there but it's out of the way. Wow! That sand museum is AMAZING. I'm starring it on my google maps. Do you need a car in order to access it? Where was the googly-poof shop? Or the pretty hiking trail? Google map me, please. Thanks for the talk about finding a restaurant before the sun goes down - I'll remember that. Japan chain restaurants aren't bad - they're always "good", just basic. For a foreign traveler on a short trip, I'm sure they'd be good. Dude comes prepared - he brings the suga, baby. How much was the "cheap as hell" room?
I'm pretty sure a bus can get you to the dunes area from a train station, it's not far from Tottori-shi and gets a lot of tourists typically. The cake shop was here: goo.gl/maps/dDsgibzLY4FGRo1B7 I don't remember exactly where the pretty coastline was, but it's basically running a long the coast of most of the prefecture from what we saw. There is a trail basically going up along it. Sorry, I also don't recall what the cost of the room was, I am surprised we didn't mention it in the video hahahaha. -E
Tottori sand museum has been on my list for years. Hard to acess. . Japan needs to open up! Would you guys please talk to the pm and tell him to open. Keep up the videos. Thx from Kauai
I am so jealous of the places yall get to go to sometimes haha (also I feel like 90% sure I saw you two at a store last week but a combo of being shy and not wanting to be *that guy* who bugs people just doing daily life stuff kept me from saying anything lol)

Eric, case proven: that was a terrible morning set, and the whole experience sounded more like the West (no pride in their product or work, overly loud - thoughtless - music). couldn't have been worse hahahaha
the reflection behind you in the visitor center looks like Kyde having a lunch with an alien
Yup, I saw that too.

came for the sand dunes
stayed for the googly-poops 💩
