I miss Tama area. I lived there over 35 years ago near KeioNagayama next to TamaCenter commuting to Shinjuku. At that time, the train line from TamaCenter to Hashimoto was under construction. There was no monorail at the time. When I missed the last train to TamaCenter drinking a lot with my colleagues in Shinjuku, I sometimes got on a train to SeisekiSakuragaoka then walked along Irohazaka to come back home. Irohazaka is where an animation movie Whisper of the Heart took place several years after my drunk walking.

Hello Eric, this is irrelevant to this video but the hitchhiking videos back from 2016 is one of my favorite series of videos you've put out. There was kind of excitement for me seeing what happens next during your journey with a challenge in mind with days long intervals of future(?) status updates of past(?) videos as they were being uploaded in real-ish time. I remember making a passing mention of Twitch livestreaming in the comments of those videos. I just wanted to say I've been watching your Twitch streams since day one, and I'm glad to see you've come around to it and pushed through the hardships of IRL streaming. I hope to continue seeing you do livestreams, and I genuinely hope that it pays off for the both of you.

The air conditioner next to the pachinko place reminds me of when I visited Japan in November 2011 after the great earthquake. There were signs in trains saying that saving electricity is important next to 2 out of maybe 20 fluorescent lights that had been removed while the wagons were still being heated up to 28°C!

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  2 года назад +2

Yea, haha, and they shut off escalators to "save electricity" which was a nightmare for older people but no one bothered to turn off a single vending machine, which is a heater and a refrigerator all wrapped into one box.

Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
    Like a genuine, bona fide
    Electrified, six-car monorail
    What'd I say?
    Monorail
    What's it called?
    Monorail
    That's right! Monorail
    Monorail
    Monorail
    Monorail
I hear those things are awfully loud
It glides as softly as a cloud
Is there a chance the track could bend?
Not on your life, my Hindu friend
    What about us brain-dead slobs?
    You'll be given cushy jobs
Were you sent here by the Devil?
No, good sir, I'm on the level
The ring came off my pudding can
Take my pen knife, my good man
    I swear it's Springfield's only choice
Throw up your hands and raise your voice
    Monorail
    What's it called?
    Monorail
    Once again
    Monorail
But Main Street's still all cracked and broken
Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken
    Monorail!
    Monorail!
    Monorail!
    Monorail!
    Mono, d'oh!

26:13 Don’t know for what exactly for but that thing is also used in Tibetan Buddhism and is called ‘dorjee’. The Tibetan version is usually seen in a much smaller size - about the size of an old flip phone. Small enough to hold by hand and kinda wave around, making some gestures, which I’m sure have some ritual significance.

Oh my... Pom Poko is one of my all time favourites and yeah... got to agree with you there. Humankind seriously needs to figure out how to not only preserve but boost and restore what remains of the nature which supports us all before it's too late for our technological civilization, which inarguably brings benefits. We have to make it a net plus for more than humans too, or all of this will be a net negative for all life on the planet. :-(

After they traveled around the world, they decided that they wanted to move somewhere in Asia. Kyde got a job teaching English for a year in Japan. They decided to stay. Eric says they don’t make long term plans, but buying a house seems to suggest they like it (aside from living in Japan for like 10 years already). I think Kyde recently went up for her N4 exam? I could be wrong. I imagine Eric is a similar level if not a bit higher.

Well, I'm going to comment but I don't have anything substantial to say, but I'm going to do it anyway. 9 minute wait time, I'm surprised because that sounds pleasant to me. I live in Portland, where anything under 25 minutes is good, if the train/bus shows up at all. It sucks by comparison. Secondly, I ditched my smartphone (best thing I've ever done) and it weirds me out to see every person on the monorail glued to the phone. The last time I was in Japan I don't think it was such a thing. Now it just looks kind of sad to me. But I guess it's the same thing here too.
