    This is, as usual, awesome. I love how you guys just go explore whatever looks interesting to you, whether it's touristy stuff or just things you think look cool. Makes it really fun to watch, since it just feels so spur of the moment and unplanned (though I realize you do plan things!) The Big Island looks amazing and I really want to go check it out. Thanks for an hour of fun in these weird plague times.

    When I lived in Japan, I could get American cereals, peanut butter, and tortilla shells at Jupiter grocery in Kyoto Station, also Guarana Soda... and I found out in the last two months of living there that there was a store a couple shops down that sold Sour Cream. After looking it up it is a chain store.. it is called Jupiter Coffee and Import foods, and they have a couple stores in Tokyo.

    I started watching your videos about the same time I watched the volcano erupting in 2018. My husband and I watched the lava flow thru Lelani Estates and down to the ocean. People were filming live from their homes and over the weeks then months we saw as they had to evacuate and then were displaced as their homes were literally swallowed up by lava. It was mesmerizing to watch the fissures open and then spew lava hundreds of feet in the air...mesmerizing, beautiful, and sad all at the same time. It was interesting, a year and a half later, to see the changes in your video. Thanks for putting out great content.

    The Kona side of the island is the Leeward Side and the Hilo side is the Windward Side; all the islands in Hawai'i have a Lee side/dry side on the Southwest sides of the islands and they have the Windward/rainy side on the Northeast side. Because of the high mountains and volcanos and the constant "Tradewinds" that comes out of the Northeast, the islands are not desert islands. The Tradewinds are warmed by the warm ocean; they also carry a lot of humidity because the Tradewinds blow for thousands of miles over the warm sub-tropic oceans. These warm, moisture carrying winds hit the islands and are forced, by the tall mountains, to higher, cooler elevations. And because of the drop in temperature at these higher elevations, the air can no longer carry the moisture and it releases it; thereby producing rain. Lots of rain; and snow at the highest elevations on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The Leeward sides (Southwest dry sides) are in the "wind shadow" of the mountains; so they don't get hit by the constant warm, moist, Tradewinds coming out of the Northeast. That is why there was such a drastic change in flora when you went from the Hilo side to the Kona side. Also, that is why the Kona side has more tourists and hotels; less rain, more sun.

    Maybe I'm not understanding fully but it seems to say that there is no parking, but there are unloading times. Which to me means, no parking.

      I noticed it was metres from a crossing. There's usually no parking within so many metres of a pedestrian crossing the world over. Some countries such as Oz have exceptions for loading. Mary and Joseph had a similar problem with the donkey.

  • @UrbanHomesteadMomma
    @UrbanHomesteadMomma 4 года назад +4

    The parking sign to me would mean no parking anytime unless it to load/unload between 7am-3pm... so yeah I wouldn't park there.

      In England the top signage (no parking) is the major message. The exceptions happen below (i.e. unless you are...loading... in this instance) . It would be useful if they include the word 'unless' however.

  • @MACDRU421

    Great video, but the parking part was a little longwinded. Usually the meter maids from the parking authority give out tickets and not police (unless it is some egregious violation). Plus it was a holiday, so it was probably not enforced. Aren't they laid back in Hawaii anyway?

    Ok i'm not from US so don't know sign designs but i read the sign as no parking at any time except ''delivery'' between 7AM and 3PM. I would say that because whole sign is bordered with thick red border and the exceptions are divided by thinner red line so i read that as exception to meaning of the sign as a whole.

    yes, kona airport is international. there are direct flights to british columbia in the winter and year round flights to japan. You should see the canadians in the winter when they're waiting to get on the plane and go back to the ice and snow. pure sadness. There is even a cow plane (Kalitta airlines) that flies cows from the island to los angeles. That is one stinky plane. Ironically that the plane or one of them that flew americans back from china during the corona virus thing.

    Lol I had to stop the video to see if anyone talked about the "no parking" situation Kyde and Eric faced. I'm from the NYC area so maybe take my words with a grain of salt but that sign means no parking for any car at any time. Parking is available for loading vehicles like commercial trucks for 30 minutes between that time frame. So from my perspective, Kyde and Eric shouldn't have parked there but they didn't get a ticket and encountered a really nice police officer. Just want to clear this up. Let me know if you got a different interpretation

    One thing that the Hawaiians were upset at was that the University of Hawaii was made the protector of the land...they allowed other observatories to build and allow them to lease the land at $1/yr. The Native Hawaiians are upset at the poor business management as how can this benefit the Hawaiian people in providing funding for education, housing, etc. The UH acknowledges the wrongdoing and mismanagement of the Mauna over the years and want to make it right...Also delays because the dismantling promises of a few of the observatories have not taken place as it was promised...there are so many other things that upset the Hawaiian people - and keep saying it should be built in the Canary Islands off of Spain. But all the astronomers say Mauna Kea is still the best in the world for space observation.
