TROMSØ 2024 | Day 2 | Fjellheisen | Arctic Cathedral | Magic Ice Bar | Northern Lights | 🇸🇯

It's Wednesday and my second full day in the beautiful city of Tromsø in the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway.
I'm tired after a successful Aurora Safari with Best Arctic (Link: bestarctic.com/) the night before, but the beautiful clear day and cold air soon perk me up.
First up is a walk to the jetty (@VervetTroms) to see the mountains which surround the city.
Then I walk over the Tromsøbrua bridge towards Fjellheisen (link: www.fjellheisen.no/engelsk/fj...) and the cable car station. I buy a 2 day pass as I also want to see the views after dark and this will give me the flexibility to do so. It's certainly not cheap but it turns out to be my favourite attraction, so it's definitely worth it.
After a loooong walk at the top admiring the views and even a cloud inversion, I get some sustenance from the Fjellstua cafe in the form of a delicious waffle.
Heading back down, the next stop is the Arctic Cathedral (link: www.ishavskatedralen.no/en/) which is surprisingly interesting. I'm there as it opens and there is a brief talk, which was unexpected but interesting. As well as the building itself, there are some fascinating photos of how it was built. Maybe not somewhere you'll spend a very long time, but certainly interesting and quite a nice chilled vibe.
Feeling a bit tired, I make use of my 7 day bus pass (link: fylkestrafikk.no/menu/tickets..., and head back to town, calling in at Backstube Tromsø (link: www.backstube.no/) to pick up a pastry, which I savour back at the hotel (Thon Hotel Tromsø - link www.thonhotels.no/hoteller/no... and hotel video • THON HOTEL TROMSØ | Ho... ) before making my way to the Magic Ice Bar (link: www.magicice.no/).
Expecting it to be naff, I'm surprised that it's actually enjoyable. The welcome drink is tasty (I go for the alcoholic option, but there is a non-alcoholic version and no stigma with choosing this). To be fair, if I went back I'd go for the slightly more expensive ticket which includes 2 drinks, as it was much more enjoyable than I expected, and that would offer better value (also, the menu looked good).
For dinner, I head to Indie (link: www.restaurantindie.no/) which is very close to the hotel and offers a modern and relaxed vibe, along with a gorgeous vegetarian meal. The portions are extremely generous and, as with everywhere I've been, there's free water provided as standard (as well as a good range of drinks if you wish to buy one).
Finally, I go back to Fjellheisen to get my nighttime views. I had hopes of seeing the Aurora Borealis again but didn't want to get ahead of myself. As it turned out, they did make an appearance so it was another late night!

Wow brilliant video, many thanks, stunning, I Started 15 years ago visiting Tromso and I think I only missed 4 trips, I have also just bought an Inst 360 x4 camera and will be using it this December, although it has not got a good rating for low light photography, living in Cambridge I use Luton airport with WIZZ Air which are really cheap flights, also at the airport I don't use the local buses, I use Bussring which parks right outside the front door of the terminal, and it's a dedicated coach bus into town which is only 10 minutes, the first stop is at the Scandic Grand hotel next to the Thon hotel.
