    What's really impressive about Tromso is that despite being far north is that it doesn't have a polar climate or even a subarctic climate but more of a continental maritime climate (similar to northeastern US but with cooler summers). It's a way to experience the Arctic without the vicious cold of a place like Barrow, Alaska. A place that would be really jarring to visit is Alert, Nunavut, Canada. There's actually a brief time where Alert plunges into total darkness, imagine getting no day/night cues from the sky for weeks on end.

    • @KristyandSteve
      @KristyandSteve  7 месяцев назад +1

      Oh wow we couldnt imagine complete darkness during the day! That is actually what we were expecting visiting Tromso and were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful twilight we experienced - breathtaking!
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment ☺️

      I have to point out to you that your idea of Tromsø area and "not having Arctic climate" isn't on point...and need an update. Tromsø is very much a part of the Arctic ....and has an Arctic climate....whatever mild or not. You need to understand that the Arctic is versatile both in climate, landscape, flora and fauna .....it is not a one size fits all story as you seem to believe.
      Just for info. I looked up lowest temperatures for Barrow in Alaska ....and found that the most recent cold snap there was in 2006 with a lowest at -55 F. Well....not so far from Tromsø ....a good hours drive.....to a place locate no more than 10 miles away from the sea/salt water....had last January -56 F (lowest for Barrow for 2024 was -35 F). That place would erase every low temperature record Barrow have ever had. That place is not even the coldest place in Norway ....so not so much points for your climate "analyses and insight".....
      I must also ask what is "continental maritime climate"....???? .....sorry....there does not exist any term like that....at least not in science where I've been around.
      ....and yeah....I have some ideas and actual knowledge about these things ....I'm from the Arctic ...and has studied such stuff as meteorology....

    • @AltoonaYourPiano
      @AltoonaYourPiano 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Dan-fo9dk I'm surprised that areas near Tromso have been getting those temperatures as of late. But then again, maybe I shouldn't as cold snaps have been getting more severe in continental Europe while winters have been getting much milder here in North America.
      Climate variations in the Arctic vs so-called "polar climate" are two different things as I'm sure you know. Maybe you use a different term but we use terms in the US like "polar climate" or sometimes "Arctic/Antarctic" (depending on hemisphere) to describe it. Maybe we need a new term for a climate whose warmest month never surpasses 10°C as it's not a one-size-fits-all term, because along with excluding certain places in the actual Arctic while including places very much not in the Arctic such as Inukjuak, but those were the terms used in the textbooks I studied so that's what I use. It might just be one of those annoying things about the Koppen climate classification that we have to work around, such as the issues with the "humid subtropical climate" being overly broad, which I'm sure you're aware of.
      Maybe instead we should just say Group A, Group B, Group C and so on for climate types instead of tropical, temperature, continental, etc.

      @@AltoonaYourPiano I've been to tromso this january (we go yearly 2-3 weeks) and we experienced a solid -28°C on the cars display, and I gotta say, I managed to take pics for 4-6 hours usually on -10 to -15°C, that -28 was literally getting out of the car and within 5 minutes everything is freezing

    @Dan-fo9dk You did really well of facts.... better than almost any YT-tourist.
    But there are a couple of things I would like to point out.
    When it comes to population numbers of Tromsø....and the students...
    The university in Tromsø has around 15000 students (not all in Tromsø). Students who are originally not from Tromsø ....are not registered as citizens of Tromsø .
    The definition of polar night is that it is dark all 24 hours day and night. Hence Tromsø does NOT have polar nights. Nowhere on the mainland of Norway does that occur. The only place where they can claim such is on Svalbard. The southernmost occurrence of polar night ...on the shortest day (northern hemisphere) on 21. Dec is around 72,5 dgr N latitude.
    You're right about the approximate 350 km distance north of the Arctic Circle ....but you could have added that was direct air distance north/south.....to somewhere far inside Sweden. Norway has not a north-south orientation. The further north you go the more eastward the incline will be. So driving along the main road from the Arctic Circle and north to Tromsø will be 580 km and a ferry. It will take the better part of 9 hours ....at summer time.....

    Hello there
    I recently came across your youtube channel < Kristy and Steve > and was impressed by the quality of your content. However, after conducting a comprehensive analysis, I noticed there is room for improvement for your youtube channel for getting more visitors and subscribers. Not doing video optimization and keyword research is not improving your video.
    The problems I got your channel:
    1. Your video title, meta description needs to be improved.
    2. Your Thumbnail needs to be more eye-catching.
    3. You need to use more relevant ranked tags and low competitive keywords.
    4. Also there are many more issues in your video optimization checklist due to which RUclips algorithm is not delivering your video to your targeted audience.
    If you solve these problems, hopefully your channel will grow day by day.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ayon Ahmed
