Not having Bluetooth was a real bummer for me. Just makes so much more sense on a device like this where you'd be sharing space with another person or else you'd be using your main TV/audio setup to begin with

That design is EXACTLY what I’ve been saying Sony should design their handheld as, cut a controller in 2 and put a screen in the middle of it, perfect! Just sad that it’s not a standalone handheld 😢

For me this is not too shabby since my wife is on my TV 24/7 so being able to play my ps5 is great. Wish this was on the go like the psp. The PSP was a timeless masterpiece. 200$ seem pretty steep. Maybe 100$ lol
The PSP was, purely and simply, a console that you could take with you. Give it a decent charge and play games specially developed for it. That's basically what it was. Will they go in that direction again? Maybe they will, maybe they won't
Wii U had least had more sensors and the promise of more games to play with both screens, wich never were delivered. But those few wich did it, did it the job great. This is plain "just remote screen".
Sony doesn't allow other operating systems and emulators on their devices, this is why devices like the steam deck will always be better in today's market.
Sony has proven with the Vita that they have lost the will to fully support a handheld. Plus, the Switch and Steam Deck have gotten people used to the idea of playing their games both on the go and at home, so nothing less than a portable PS5 would've worked. A portable device that plays PS5 games natively would've cost a fortune, and even if they could downscale the games to work, they'd just end up having to force developers to make games for both and cause a bottleneck. Remote play was the only answer.
Mobile phones of today can play games on par with the ps3, so why not and after all the nintendo switch has a lackluster third party support and low performace and yet its a success.@@kraenk12
They really released this at a time when dedicated gaming handhelds like the steam deck, rog ally and switch exist. Not to mention the great stuff like Lenovos handheld and onexpro. From innovating the handheld market with the psp to completely losing sight of things with the portal Well done Sony

Screen is too small. Weight balance is off. Backbone is the better option for ergonomics but the screen is still small and the controls is not a Dualsense.
With the restrictions they are going for, they are more competing with your phone running PS Remote Play than with proper handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, when it comes to phones, they are competing with devices that can cost just 250€ and sport 120Hz OLED screens (like the Poco phones). While a bit (but not hugely) smaller than the PS Portal, they are complete devices than can alternatively run Android games natively.
or maybe what they should have done is revive the xperia play concept again. Combine the necessity of having a phone for day to day life and having the ability to play games. idk why they haven't thought about it.

Although no PSP or Switch will allows you to play games at this quality, nor will they allow you to play the same games you already have without a compromise. This product is great as it turns a fully dedicated console into a switch, giving you the benefits of both worlds without the compromise of reduced quality games or limited game collection. For people who actually use remote regularly, this might be a perfect solution. All others already have the option to use their Phone or Tablet in combination with the PS5 controller too! So theres an option for everyone!

No they didn't. The wii u you couldn't take outside your house. With this along as your connection is strong for ps5 and wherever you have the controller you can still play ps5. It don't have to be on the same network.

@@TaikaWaikikiit actually had games. It only lacked support from programmers and, well, buyers. But it was a great console and fortunately now has a huge mod/homebrew community.
This would be a lot more of a value proposition If they let you stream games from their online service. I'm baffled they didn't use this to push playstation plus memberships for people without a PS5.
That and the baffling exclusion of Bluetooth. So if you want to use a headset with this, the entry point is now either 350 or 400 dollars to use the only compatible proprietary headsets available. There are many questionable decisions here.
A handheld ps4 with improved legacy library like PSVita and the ability to stream ps5 games would have made more sense for me and would of made me get it day one, but idk 🤷♂️
If it’s Astro’s Playroom then I’m pretty sure the camera movement is more of a fluid panning motion that’s common in third-person games, which is a PlayStation specialty at this point, compared to the tightness of an FPS like Borderlands or Call of Duty. The angle makes it hard to say for sure but it looks more like camera movement by design than the latency being so bad.
Looking into the device as well. Sony have locked out a lot of features. Like the lack of Bluetooth audio. So you have to buy there £199 headphones. This turns a £199 device into a £399 device! Now please don’t that’s a steam deck. That connects to your ps5. It connects to gamepass and also plays steam games natively. And you can connect any headphones you want 😊
Fun fact, you can use your existing phone, a dual sense controller (or dualshock 4) and the remote play app to get almost the exact same experience. All while saving about 120 bucks off the asking price
@@Derek4kas someone who uses remote play often, everything they described is almost identical to starting it with your phone, pairing your controller with Bluetooth and playing that way. Only difference is your phone probably isn’t as big, and the latency might show a little more in bad connectivity settings on a phone, but it’s the same thing overall.
How is this different than going on Amazon to buy a clamp for your dualsense to attach to the phone and use remote play from your phone? From how this is currently marketed, it is essentially a $200 version of an already free app. From my understanding, I'd get much more value from a tablet + new dualsense for the same price.
If this works to where you can be traveling wherever and just turn this on and it turns on your system at home and streams the games well enough to combat input delay then this seems solid.
My phone has a higher resolution screen as well, they really should just release a dualsense split controller that can be attached to phones like the razer kishi.
Joystick drift basically kills the entire device since it's part of the whole unit. You have to open up the whole thing just to replace the joystick. They should've made those controls modular and detachable like the switch.
Maybe it's built different. My Steam Deck joysticks have lasted a lot longer compared to my PS5. It's like they care more about build when it's attached to the device.

the vita is dope - there is a new hæck out that is installable just with the vita, no pc needed. made me jump the ship and cræck my vita, no regrets.

The Sony backbone controller attachment works really great on phones… you can still run games on your mobile network as well

A solution for a non existing problem, a product nobody asked for. Who wishes to have a wireless extension for the real playstation that must be nearby for that to work? How does this get approved to be put into production? Mind-blowing.

No they didn't. The wii u you couldn't take outside your house. With this along as your connection is strong for ps5 and wherever you have the controller you can still play ps5. It don't have to be on the same network.

This would be a lot more of a value proposition If they let you stream games from their online service. I'm baffled they didn't use this to push playstation plus memberships for people without a PS5.
That and the baffling exclusion of Bluetooth. So if you want to use a headset with this, the entry point is now either 350 or 400 dollars to use the only compatible proprietary headsets available. There are many questionable decisions here.

If it’s Astro’s Playroom then I’m pretty sure the camera movement is more of a fluid panning motion that’s common in third-person games, which is a PlayStation specialty at this point, compared to the tightness of an FPS like Borderlands or Call of Duty. The angle makes it hard to say for sure but it looks more like camera movement by design than the latency being so bad.
It’s a £99-£150 product. £200 really starts to put you close to just saving a little bit longer and buying a steam deck

Looking into the device as well. Sony have locked out a lot of features. Like the lack of Bluetooth audio. So you have to buy there £199 headphones. This turns a £199 device into a £399 device! Now please don’t that’s a steam deck. That connects to your ps5. It connects to gamepass and also plays steam games natively. And you can connect any headphones you want 😊

@@Derek4kas someone who uses remote play often, everything they described is almost identical to starting it with your phone, pairing your controller with Bluetooth and playing that way.
Only difference is your phone probably isn’t as big, and the latency might show a little more in bad connectivity settings on a phone, but it’s the same thing overall.

How is this different than going on Amazon to buy a clamp for your dualsense to attach to the phone and use remote play from your phone?
From how this is currently marketed, it is essentially a $200 version of an already free app.
From my understanding, I'd get much more value from a tablet + new dualsense for the same price.

If this works to where you can be traveling wherever and just turn this on and it turns on your system at home and streams the games well enough to combat input delay then this seems solid.

Most restaurants, airports or hotels do have wifi, but its often dogshit and not usable for remote play.
Need to be tethered at all times to your phone if you're in an area with no wifi. Not sure what the data drain would look like in that scenario

Hard pass. I've used both my phone and my RP3+ for Remote Play and not only do they work just fine, they can actually do other things, too!
My phone has a higher resolution screen as well, they really should just release a dualsense split controller that can be attached to phones like the razer kishi.
Joystick drift basically kills the entire device since it's part of the whole unit. You have to open up the whole thing just to replace the joystick. They should've made those controls modular and detachable like the switch.
Or make the joysticks easily replaceable like on the dualsense edge controller..
Or use that fancy new Magnetic Stick Stuff.
Maybe it's built different. My Steam Deck joysticks have lasted a lot longer compared to my PS5. It's like they care more about build when it's attached to the device.
really hate the idea of the device and hate to say this but sony stick probably wont drift , ( my dualsense ps4 controller almost 10 years and never drift once)
