loz: “he doesn’t look like he’s letting up”
Thor: I’m retiring from strongman
Thor was such a cry baby. Good riddance.
@@J.c410 Yes he is lol. Thor is more of a Games Of Throne actor and Marvel character. *Not* a Strongman
@@putanginamo2327 Are you kidding me? He literally won WSM, ESM, and the Arnold Classic in 1 year. He has won 5 ESM, 3 Arnold Classics, and a WSM. He has 10 Icelands Strongest Mans. He has multiple records including elephant bar deadlift, strongman deadlift, and WSM keg toss.
@@twirdman2 And? His achievements still isn’t #1
@@putanginamo2327 no one said number 1. But you don't have to be number 1 to be a strongman.
Brian is seriously one of the greatest strongmen ever. He also is such a nice guy and so professional. I hope he gets his 5th this year!!!
He got 2nd lol, he’s still very much in the game.
@@dongatello6969 I absolutely agree. I think within the next few years we will see Brian get his fifth if he keeps pushing himself.
@@dongatello6969 Until Martins and Oleksii came back haha
Someone make Big Loz a commentator!! We desperately need him.
They should put him on the American broadcast.
You got your wish!
@@LatinoAaron You're right!! Lol good looking out
He is definitely one of the smartest and nicest pro strongmen
M. Miller this aged well
Honourable Mention: Vytatus Lalas, one of the shortest strongman to have won the Arnold 2012 and place second in WSM!
2013 Arnolds👍
My favorite strongman! Arguably the strongest man never to win the WSM title. Most underrated strongman ever
His name is Vytautas, and maaan he was incredibly strong
Daniel Chavarria Vargas nobody ever gives him enough credit
@@ethanzydel5348 you're right, he should be in a top 5 if we talk about pure strength
Big Z absolutely deserves that number one spot.
Be a Game Character I agree.
Hafthor is outdoing him now.
@@aaronbarlow4376 hahahhaha funny boy 😂😂
@@aaronbarlow4376 he is now yes ur right but this is a list about the greatest of ALL TIME not asking who would win now , u have to realize Z is an old man , when thor is his age he will b lucky if he can do half the shit Z can , prime Zydrunas would beat any other strongman in their prime 0 doubt
@@dogwater290 you are right except for 2017 eddie hall and maybe bill kazmier in the early 80s. Those 2 are also fucking beasts
Mariusz is Arnold of strongman. Big Z is Ronnie Coleman of strongman
Big Z is a star. Walked past me at an event once, I was amazed to see him. Great lifter.
Icelandic mother: Bjorn, how are your black metal guitar lessons going?
Icelandic boy: I'm not good at playing black metal guitar mum.
Icelandic mother: well, you better get to the gym and become a strongman, those are the 2 choices son.
😂😂
Great call about Bill Kazmaier! The only thing you left out was that he was doing all this extreme static strength stuff sufficient to compete with today's guys weighing 100+ pounds less than them!
Talking about Thor: "He can probably deadlift 480". Might want to update this now Loz!
Now he is higher than 6 xd
it is still true, he can probably still deadlift 480 lol
Not in competition
@@shannon-the-cannon-Briggs we'll see when the coalition comes.
@@shannon-the-cannon-Briggs God, another fucking idiot.
I remember being a kid watching WSM when Pudzianowski was bursting onto the scene. He was always my favorite because he didn't look like the others. His physique was nasty and he was just fun to watch. GOAT to me.
This^
Man had gifted genetics to look like that and compete as an elite strongman
@Colm Rich big Z left wsm because he always loses to Mariusz. It's not Mariusz's fault that he won 5 times.
@Colm Rich Mariusz was already past his prime and already training for MMA when Big Z returned. But in those years where they battle head to head, Mariusz was always ahead of points and didn't get a score lower than 50 when he's winning.
@Colm Rich you do know Big Z beats him in static events even in his prime right? But wsm isn't only about static strength events, it has multiple events which Mariusz is better than Big Z.
@Colm Rich lol since when did Big Z retired Mariusz? Mariusz already said in 05 that he only wants to win 5 times in WSM then he'll stop competing. At 09 Mariusz was already switching training from WSM to MMA.
Had the honor to compete against Geoff C and Jon-Paul in the Scottish heavy events.Good guys!
Wow!!
Mariusz Pudzianowski is the greatest of all time, nobody can compare to him. He was Strong , Fast, has an absolute will to win and was one of the most entertaining man to watch.
He performs on an other Level than all the other Competitors.
Absolutely missing Jouko Ahola, the first man to build his own equipment and train events to absolutely punch above his weight. Most impressive deadlifter in my opinion as well, deadlifted 406kg @ 117kg.
Ahola and Virtanen brought event training into the sport.
WSM '97-'99 are probably my favorite years. P4P Ahola had no equal. Wish he continued on for a few more years. Great shout out
Very good point.. but who would u leave from top 10 then?
It completely depends on the terms, right? Most victories, most records, etc.
Let's speak in terms of podium spots at WSM, then international level wins. I would leave either Eddie Hall or Vasyl Virastyuk off. Both have only 2 podiums: third place and one win. In fact, I'd take off both Eddie and Vasyl, and put on Jouko Ahola and Magnus Samuelsson.
1: Ahola: 2 wins, one second place. Revolutionized the actual sport by actually training events. Strongest of his era pound for pound, also won other world level championships.
2: Samuelsson: 1 win, 1 second place, 3 third places. Long and glorious international career, also won other world level championships.
3: Vasyl Virastyuk: 1 win, one third place. Podium spots at IFSA (first, second and third). Three second places at the Arnolds.
4: Eddie Hall: 1 win, one third place. No other world level wins. Closest is second at ESM. Deadlifted 500kg, thus proving the impossible possible, but in terms of wins, doesn't count.
@@TheSkinnay1 that was when I got into it myself, Ahola and Samuelsson going at it.
OD Wilson, the strongest man to never win WSM. he was robbed.
I remember that as well, it was shameful.
@mike gallimore I can live with the sack/barrel loading as the weight is usually heavy and tricky to hold, coupled with a short distance. I have a problem with people clean and jerking rather than pressing myself.
@@moonnightbricks3948 Facts. Jerking is a test of technique not strength. And I believe loading events should be short and heavy enough that bottom few guys aren't able to finish
He wasn't shit. Average fat joe
Badenhorst was the best never to have won WSM.
When Kaz says you the greatest that's good enough for me. Big Z no doubt
Big Z is my favorite strong man competitor ever . . .
he's everyone's favourite. humble guy, seems really likeable, and the best ever, there's no arguing
Honestly I think the top three here were really fair and right order. Three top tier G.O.A.T.s, but Z has the crown. No arguments!
I pretty much agree with you on all those. Great video! It’s good to see that someone who is so far in the sport is still a fan. Very motivating!
Wow, just found your channel, I have to say I love being able to get your thoughts this way! Definitely going to check out your other content!
Solid list , Magnus samuelson and ahola maybe could have sneaked in , though be hard to see who could be taken off .
I don’t know how you don’t have more subscribers
Amazing! It's mid 2020 now and this list is still accurate.
Love the content! Looking forward to watching your other vids!!!
Great video! Really enjoyed the honesty and insight from a man in your position. Keep up the great work.
Great list big loz happy to see how good you did in Dubai... your yoke time was insane and you had a really heavy deadlift 👍🏼
Great video and great list. Loz should be in the honourable mentions but he's too modest.
Well done loz I been watching wsm for nearly 40 years, so many characters and amazing athletes
Great list! Hard to disagree even with the placings. Well reasoned. Like honorable mentions. Thanks for hard work in finding footage & editing that made your list pop. Like historical footnote tribute to Oddie - sad
Mariusz Pudzianowski 💪🏼
Samuelsson as a honorable mention I missed.
Great list!
Very nicely put together video too!
This was a great top 10. I've been following Worlds Strongest Man since 1994. Loved watching you compete.
do the top 10 STRONGEST strongmen of all time next, judging only from their strength regardless of their career and achievements, love you big loz👊🏼
I am new to the sport really only following for the last couple years. This was a good history lesson for someone like me. Thanks
Great to hear you’re top ten! Pumps me up when I hear experts like you talk passionately about a sport that hasn’t gotten a lot of props through my life in America. Love your list, I might have a few different people. But solid list!
Damn I love big loz RUclips channel. Keep the good job
Nice video,I agree with the list. Big Z number one.😉
Not only is big Z the strongest, but we forget what a great athlete he is. The strongman competitions not only require great strength, but also athleticism. You must be in supreme condition, strong as an ox, and a great athlete too. Big Z has it all.😁
Another tragic early loss was Jesse marunde. He was just coming into his prime when he passed.
I will never forget him. Hugo Gerrard was one of my favs back then and I think Phil phister was underrated the guy won twice and beat mariuz in his prime
Yes! Jesse was the man and for sure would have won a title had he not passed tragically. Met him at an event in washington he was very friendly 💪💪💪
BIG LOZ..... This was very interesting watch 👍 very good speaker didn't fast forward a second of this well done mate
This is a great Top Ten, I think a lot of thought has gone into it, thank you for posting this entertaining video for us, Laurence Shahlaei btw was a great competitor himself Europe's Strongest Man 2016 and 4th in WSM 2011......
That keg toss from Shaw 😃 machine! Horsepower!
Honorable mention should be MARK FELIX for decades of top level comp
Great stuff Loz! You should do a list on your favourite year of World's Strongest Man, personally I fucking love 1988, Kaz vs Sigmarsson was fantastic!
Great idea! i'll add it to my list.
Dont forget the ultra-cool 1993 WSM in the Roman amphitheater! Gary Taylor!
Pure Strength 1987 counts as a WSM
2014 was the best. Shaw doing his unbeatable keg toss and the ending was so competitive.
2009 was a great year
I agree with your strongman list 100% well done my sir!
Your commentary is excellent
Suggest this may a new career to pursue, your insight, clarity and depth of knowledge are apparent
Thank you for making an event worthwhile
Great video.
Liked Jouko Ahola back in the late 90s!
Agree, super hard trainer who overachieved for his relatively small size.
@@mikeramgopal3912 Just what I came to say. Dude was so much smaller, but still managed to beat everyone.
Jouko was Great for the reasons the guys over said. "Small" dude but strong and fast also retired before reaching his peak
Jouko should definetly be on this list, for his size he was crazy strong but also very intelligent, great strongman
He's my all time favorite strongman!
Brian Shaw is my favorite worlds strongest man
Great list. Spot on.
Great video, loving this channel.
Jouko Ahola and Magnus Samuelson had some battles. Respect for all the strongmen. Those two should be on that list. Jouko was amazing especially at his size and Magnus year after year improved. I could go on and on. Those two we're amazing.
Thank you very much for this great and well-thought-through list, Laurence! I agree with pretty much all of your choices, but I have to say that I question that Eddie Hall made the list and not Magnus Samuelsson, Svend Karlsen or Janne Virtanen, who to be fair have won more than Eddie. :-) I also have to add that I was hoping for Phil Pfister amongst the honorable mentions, but that's probably a lot due to the fact that I'm American and he is my favorite strongman. ;-)
You can't not add the first man to ever lift half a ton off the floor on this list man.
@@geoffriquetupas4606 Not only that, but when you look back at the World Strongest Man from 2017, he dominated the vicking press, squat, and off course the deadlift events over Thor and Brian Shaw. He truly had an amazing static power that can't denied. Magnus Samuelsson, Svend Karlsen or Janne Virtanen are all incredible strongmans, but when it comes to pure strenght, I'm choosing Eddie Hall.
Good list loz, thanks for putting it together
very honest and well thought out. thanks Lawrence.
I would have really liked to see Bill at #2. He is the only one that was so dominate during his time that they banned him to give the other guys a shot a winning. I agree with what you said about he would have won a total of 6 or 7 WSM titles if they didn't ban him.
Great channel. Big Z is number one for sure, he seems to be a real humble guy as well which is a priceless adornment for an athlete.
The powerlifting/strongman community is one of the most respectful , filled with legendary role models who show nothing but the best of what sportsmanship is all about
I think you nailed it on the rankings. Good job!
Magnusson BEAT Gerrit Badenhorst in a squat lift. Unbelievable.
@@roas2 He had a torn hip flexor or groin throughout the competition.
@@roas2 Gerrit would have to be the strongest to have never won a title
@@darylkanofski9327
Robert Oberst did not win any WSM or Arnold's classic. He is always in the top 10.
Gerrit, actually said on camera at the time, that magnus shouldn't be able to lift that at his weight. Gerrit was always one of my favourite guys to watch, seemed to be a nice guy and sportsman.
@@moonnightbricks3948 He was always so competetive, but after he saw magnus lift that weight you could tell he really just lost any hope of winning right there. He was just in shock at what magnus could do. One of my favourite contests to watch tbh.
Big Loz: "Thor can probably lift 480kg"
Thor: *Lifts 501kg*
this video is from 2018. He meant Thor could lift 480 in 2018.
These comments make no sense
Big Loz: Was correct two years ago when the video was made
Jacob: Hold my retroactive correction
@@RG-ef9yw yeah exactly Jesus get over it
Great vid Loz 💪🏼😎👍🏼
Really enjoyed the video! Thanks!
Great video! Big Z is definitely great but I'm partial to Kaz!
jaybigboy34 kaz himself said big Z is his number 1
@@SamJohnsonAZ true but big Z also said that about Kaz
Magnus Samuelsson could have been mentioned aswel
He was an excellent strongman but he just couldn't squat or deadlift at a world class level.
I really agree! He deserves to be on this list.
He was weaker then many in the lower body parts but his arms and grips are probobly the strongest in history so he definetly deserves a mention he might not ben the moast well rounded strongman but were he was good he was the best. I mean the guy broke world records while still losning because of his powerfull arms
calle andersson he made the WSM final for a dacade in a row, he got on the podium a bunch of times. His static strength was not the best, but he was an amazing athletic strongman. He deserved a mention.
@@ambjorninemyr8520 Manfred Hoeberl had stronger arms
Big loz! Incredible performance at WUS this past weekend !
Great video. Thanks
My favorites are Big Z, Magnus Samuelsson, and (although not the strongest) Yanni Virtinen. Yanni just seemed to be very athletic.
100% agree with you!
I agree, Magnus Samuelsson should be there aswell.
Merk Henk grip strength is insane
I grew up with Mariusz Pudzianowski. But i have the feeling the strongman field wants to forget him or never want to mention him. Thank you for mentioning him.
Love these videos
Very good list. I agree that Big Z should be at the top. He accomplished so much and has been doing it longer than anyone in the sport. It's hard to have the longevity that Big Z has had in this sport.

Realy like your video and your background and knowledge around The split in 2004, i didn't know that but now it makes sense that Mariusz won 5 times!!!!!!
Your top 10 is almost perfect! 💪🏼
Very enjoyable and well thought out
I would have included Jouko Ahola
Magnus samuelsson too!
When i started watching wsm, it was between big z and brian. And now the greatest wsm is still between them. 👊
Good informative video mate. Good list i doubt many would disagree.
I love when pro strongman are versed in strongman history. Nice job Loz
The dominator is the best, more titles(5), less hight( just 185cm.) The best!!! The best look, the best tension, the best show!
Ivan Pavlov zero wins at the Arnolds...
The only reason people like Pudz is his abs. What about his 0 Arnold wins and Z's 8? What about the 70+ world records Z has? Mariuz had good conditioning but not the static strength of Z, Brian, Kaz, Eddie, or Thor
@@mustang8206 he smashes them all, people love him becouse of his character, and just becouse he got retired other people could show up
Ivan Pavlov the thing is Arnold becoming more the Strenght event and WSM the moving event.
Mariusz have 5 WSM titles yes but was only dominant in the moving events also train a whole year for WSM when BIg Z also train for Arnold’s but for me Big Z,Shaw and Thor the greatest because they compete in ASC and WSM and are dominant in both
You are absolutly right when he was reigning it was briliant to watch. Shawn and Big Z where sleeping pills compared to Mariuzs.
Personally, Mariusz Pudzianowski is my favorite by far.
5 times World's Strongest Man (WR)
6 times Europe's Strongest Man (WR)
4 times winner of the Strongman Super Series (WR)
Very agile, fast, the best physique I've ever seen in a strongman competition. Truly Impressive
Also he had a rock-solid determination to win everything.
He could have clearly won even more events, but he went for a MMA career.
Good video Loz. People can disagree but you explained yourself well.
This is a brilliant video. Subscribed.

@@drakemott2381 possible, he just didnt seem to have it mentally..like he always looked confused lol. Even Kaz pointed it out, i forgot which year
I was always wondering why other strong men didn't have the Pudge as number 1. I didn't know about the split in shows.
Many people aren't aware of the Arnold Strongman Classic and of Fortissimus. The events of those two contests are (were) incredibly tough.
In my opinion a win at one of them is as impressive as a win at WSM.
I totally recommend watching both!
I agree with you pretty much everything you said. Big z, Shaw, everything.
Great job! That was well done 👍🏻
Thanks mate for putting Big Z in first place on your list. Me and I think all Lithuanians are very proud of Žydrūnas. Such a great athlete, sportsman and very nice person and human! And come on guys it's obvious that he is the GOAT for the moment. You never know maybe someday, somebody will replace him...But for now he's got the most titles!
I was surprised that Magnus Samuelsson wasn't in the list, as a WSM winner, one of a small list of people that can master the Captain of Crush level 5, and broke the arm of an arm wrestling champion!
The guy who he beat (Nathan Jones) wasn’t an arm wrestling champ. It was Magnus who was European champ (I think- forgive me if I got it wrong)... was really nasty to watch
Magnus was the arm wrestling champ, I think they called the man whos arm he broke, mega man from Australia.
Nathan Jones. Joke that WSM tries to forget...
Your a very well spoken man no intimidation at all
I agree 100%. Great Job!
"Thors Capable of a 480kg deadlift"
Thor: Hold my Reign
@@Smeaton117 what the heck is that supposed to mean?
Jacob Vanderhooft I wonder what brought Smeaton here. Obviously doesn't understand Strongman
Jacob Vanderhooft That 7ft boxer Valuev that got beat by David Haye. Bet he couldn’t even deadlift 300kg
S G Bjornsson: “500 kg is for pussies.”
I truly believe Thor's not that cool but whatever . I still maintain Eddie could have lifted 501 4 years before Thor IN the competition 501 means fuck all 4 years later
What about Bruce Wilhelm, 2x winner of WSM. Why does nobody talk about him? He was a great athlete, always charismatic, one of the greatest olympic weightlifters in history, shot put record holder, wrestler and discuss thrower, first American to snatch 400 lbs. He was awesome and went up against strong men like Ken Patera, Don Reinhoudt and Lars Hedlund.
Great analysis!
Loved the list. Top notch, spot on In my opinion.
"I hope you enjoyed it?" We absolutely loved it Loz. Please do more, you are a great communicator. It's great to hear the opinion of a real expert. You could do more about most amazing single performances (I'm thinking Thor's kettle throw win over Shaw), biggest surprises or even biggest upsets. I agree with my nama jeff, greatest years would be amazing. Mine is 2014, 3 top guys fighting for the title until the very last event. Wish this sport were MUCH bigger in Italy. Are they ever gonna stage one WSM final in Italy?
Some great ideas I'll definitely add to the list. I'd love to see WSM back in Europe and Italy would be amazing.
Please tell them to stage it in Florence (where I live)! I'd love to get involved in the organization of it. (Another idea I had is explaining how the whole circuit works. Most don't know the difference between WSM and Arnold's for example).
I remember watching Big Z tear that frame off the tracks that year lol.
Ya Boy Blue which year? Trying find this vid
Absolutely agree with the whole list and explainations.
Great list. Have to say I agree with you.
Big Z is my inspiration, he's my favourite, he's my ideal. He is insane and best of all
Jon pall Sigmundson at number 8? Really! Top 5 at least. Jon pall has done much more than thor has, but thor places higher. 🤔
In terms of number of competitions and records, as well as era in which they competed and comparing that to now, Thor wins for sure
@@GoofballLOL Erm no. Just no. Thor hasn't won the amount Sigmundson did and never will. He may be stronger but we will never know. But in terms of accomplishments and legacy in the sport, Jon Pall will always be higher.
@@kingoftherodeo8380 "he may be stronger but we'll never know"? How do you say that when they literally have their numbers recorded. Thor can OHP more, move faster, deadlift more, pull more and pull faster, stone lift more, etc. and has won more medals in more contests.
Jón Páll was a phenomenal strongman. There's no denying that. He helped make Iceland the sports juggernaut it is today and helped popularize the sport. Putting him in 8 was rough as fuck.. but regardless of that, Thor would still beat him if both of them were alive and competing and in their primes
well if we r talking about strongest and titles then Thor is higher
Thanks Lawrence...excellently argued .
This list was fantastic!
