@@seife41 People like Eddie are just extremely competitive. Their brains just work a bit differently, they come across as arrogant and full of themselves but I don't think that's fair, they just have this superhuman drive to be the absolute best at everything they do, they're the epitome of an alpha male. Eddie is is a bit of a joker, and a young man with an enormous amount of testosterone, but I think he's a decent man deep down.
If anything, the judges were too lenient with Hafthor, but no matter how you feel about it, his score was 14 at the end of the exercise. Which meant that Eddie's target was 15. Can you imagine the idiocy of giving Hafthor another rep after the fact? Eddie looked like he could have done at least one or two more if he had to.
I guess you can also argue Eddie did his faster... so even though that's not how things are decided, I think it matters. Problem is I think Eddie could have and should have gone for 16. I think hafthor would still be complaining for reasons...
Exactly. The hammer got hammered fair and square by the better man. Bad loser and it is always nice to see somebody try to blame someone or something else for their own failure. It just makes Eddie look the better man out of it. All I can say is you lost hammer and deserved it even more by being a big baby about it.
You have to also remember, Thor's argument is completely based on the fact, if that rep was allowed it would have been 15 each, and the overall score would have been a tie, not the one point Eddie beat him by. However had a target to aim at, and did 15 because that's what he had to do to win. I'm 99.9% sure, Eddie would have been more than able to do 16 or 17 if he had to. Plus there were 3 events after this I believe, so it's not as if he didn't have a chance to claw it back. Also on the Stone, Eddie knew he just had to lift them all to win, you could argue if he was against the clock and had to beat a specific time to win, he would have. But as mentioned in the video, Thor is surrounded my 'Yes' men, if he told them he believed water was green and the sky was black, they'd back him and convince him he was right. Thor has at least 4 reps that could have been DQ'd, he wasn't locking his elbows on them all either. It's arrogance of the highest order for Thor to genuinely believe he was cheated out of the title. He's like a child throwing his toys out the pram.
Plus he was out of time to hit his last rep which would have been 15 if he had did it right. Eddie has so much time to hit 15 and would have hit 16 if Halfthor hit 15.
Same. Although he is a scary man to approach I guess. Intimidating character. He didn't bring any friends to the competition either. Only his physio. "No one has said well done yet..." That was kind of sad, for Eddie having trained so hard only for people to question a win that personally i think he dominated with pure raw strenght.
Thor just doesn’t like to lose. He’s never had to work for his wins like Eddie had and quite honestly... I’m not sure he gives a fuck about worlds strongest man, if he did, he would’ve done his reps cleanly.
just the fact that the ref said I warned you 4 times and only knocked him once should be clear enough. if that judge wanted to be a stickler he would of knocked him for each of those 4 not just the last one.
The real tragedy, besides Eddie and the referees reputations slandered, is the fact that this documentary clearing their names won’t get anywhere near as much media attention as the original controversy.
@Senior Billy Bull Thor was prepping exclusively for that lift and did it at a date and time most suitable for him. Eddie did it while already out of gas, and the challenge was thrown as a spectacle, nobody expected anyone to lift it. Also the weights Thor lifted were verified by his father, and Thor conveniently retired strongman with a bs excuse. So was it even 501kg that he lifted is up for debate
@Senior Billy Bull Thor Broke the record by a mere 1kg. Eddie did it by a mere 35 Kg at the time amongst guys like Benedikt Magnusson and Jerry Prichett who also had attempted the 500KG lift. Sure Thor "could've" pull 20+ more kg to prove a point, but the simple fact that he didn't when he had a chance to blow eddies record away and take all bragging rights away from Eddie's name makes that argument invalid.
Yes I agree, watching the video closely Eddies technique was clean & without doubt deserved the win. So sad to pi** on Eddies chips as we say in the UK 😊
Broke my heart when Eddie said no one else had congratulated him 😢 deserves the win without the controversy surrounding it. Working so hard for something for it then to be tarnished. Glad this highlighted that he was just a sore loser x
He had all his fans and supporters congratulating him and 10+ strongmen said well done. Just because the cameras werent rolling and zues didnt knight him with a million people screaming at the top of their lungs chanting eddie eddie doesnt mean he didnt get props mate.
Not a bullying tactic.....it shows he thought he didn't do anything wrong. I don't know how long this comp was after he lost custody of his girl but i think that played into his attitude towards all of it, and his coach really pressed the issue with it
Mate, he really believed it were good reps, you can see it in his eyes. Yes he was WRONG, Eddie did win fair and square and he shouldnt have made the fuzz about it, but he believed in that moment.
The only person that robbed him was himself. He was given numerous warnings and Eddie had enough in the tank to do a 16th lift anyway. Congrats Eddie you deserved it. You’ll always have us in your corner
I think the double dipping call is debatable but what isn't debatable is that he had 3 other reps that should not have counted because he lowered the weight before the down signal. He's complaining about not being given the 15th rep when it should have been his 12th rep anyway.
I mean 4 warnings... If that was some of the other competitors they would have had more reps removed from result... BUT since he lifts "that way" the referee was VERY nice to him.. Could aswell have been 12 or 13 reps... In my mind his number 13 and 14 was not done right... Down WAY too fast and Not locking out that elbow...
He was the head of sports at my old school, was one of the most fair positive teachers ive ever had in my life. Makes me pissed tbh watching them bitching to him
That win was and is 100% yours Eddie. Regardless of what anyone thinks or says, you won that fair and square. I believe he simply had too many yes men by his side and had a lot of ego going into that competition giving his nature of being a movie star. It's a shame he and his team couldn't uphold the brotherhood and stay true and have good ethics and integrity for the sport and their fellow competitors. You'll always be above and truly one of the greats. I'm just a nobody, another fish in the ocean. But your videos give me lots of Amp and drive foe the gym. Keep your head high sir. You deserve it.
Idk why Thor even bothered tbh, Eddie’s shoulders in his prime (and some would argue even now, r.i.p his bicep) cannot be compared to anyone. Simple. Brutal. Strength.
Ok lets be fair here. The last 3 reps from Thor were not 100% clean BUT this video is bias because it does not tell you to look how fast the ref is counting "down" when it comes to Eddies reps. Much faster than with Thor. He even telling Thor to hold it lol.
@@takeyourtime3328 For what I understand, It's because Thor almost never lock his elbow, the ref try to be "nice" in some way, by letting some time for Thor locking, and because it never happenned the ref say "down", the failure of the lock is compensated by the exhausting time trying to lock. See that as a Penalty, it's clearly more nice to Thor than just reject every reps because they're all bad.

How can he compare this whole debacle to losing his daughter. Lost all respect for him. Eddie hall won that one fair and square. No one can take that away from him. Hope you twat him in the fight next year.
I think Thor's Height & limbs' length were not suitable(too long) for that weights' Mechanisms. However it is more suitable for Eddie's Measurements which are shorter than Thor's.
@@b_f_d_d as in the well deserved credit of being the strongest man in the world and proving it on the world stage despite drama and unprofessional competition? I think I would too.
Watching the side by side comparison it was clear that the judges were extremely lenient with Hafthor who I think was VERY lucky to be given a score of 14, what a crybaby, Eddie you annihilated him on that one, the official record shows you won by one, but in reality I think Hafthor should have been reprimanded more harshly by the judges during the event and told he wasn't waiting for the down call, he was lucky to get 14 as he didn't even do 14 proper lifts!
The ref told him I could've taken 4 reps away but gave you 3 because I know your confused. The guy didn't bitch about 14reps till Eddie did 15reps lol. Very very poor loser. Eddie won and the whole event was on Thor....
"No one else has said well done yet." That broke my heart. Well done Eddie. Congratulations on your 2017 WSM win. This video really opened my eyes and I think an apology from Thor is in order.

He's a seasoned referee, he isnt intimidated. Look at NHL referees, theyre usually pretty small guys in comparison to the tanks on skates, yet they dont hesitate jumping in at complete mayhem
What got me is thor put on that he was cheated out of “one” rep to the press and Eddie was a cheat but the unreleased video clearly shows its was 4 reps. The ref GAVE thor 3 and a warning and then took the 4th. GAVE HIM 3. thor didn’t even lock out or wait for the down call in half of them simply because he wasn’t strong enough to hold the weight up. thor was weaker in this event than Eddie, its clearly visible in the footage! Eddie won fair and square and that makes thor a sore loser and he brought dishonor to the competition by not showing sportsmanship to Eddie who bested him...
@IhateECHOES 15:32 "I'LL SAY" after asked by the head ref not to swear on his daughter it wasn't double dipping. So not only was Thor a sore looser, he lied on his daughter. Pretty despicable.
As Brian Shaw said in the video 5:49 everyone knows when they double dip. To then go on and swear on his daughters life is just next level of maliciousness...
Please quit liking this comment guys. I want mine to be #1 in likes. If I end up in 2nd I'm calling you all cheaters and I'm going to have my daddy count the thumbs!
people forget that these things were actually very recurring at the finals. Back in the day Brian vs Bigz it was also like that. Shaw fucked up with the bag carry and it cost him 1st place
Same could be said for Brian. How many times did Brian come so damn close to winning. Brian has gotten so close to the trophy so many times but in his losses he became an even stronger champion. I think the one guy who said Thor is surrounded by Yes Men is correct. Thor is Mr. Hollywood and he has that Hollywood mentality.
“If your Yes men come into the ring, I’m going to beat the shit out of them until they are no men.” I didn’t know Eddie can land a jab with just words.
You go Eddie this is 100% your right! being disrespected in one of the highest moments in your career because someone is salty he lost is something no one should go through i hope everything works out in your favor
That was my thoughts as well, like bro, shut up. You got 3 that you shouldn’t have for failure to lockout and bad form. He’s lucky I wasn’t a judge, I’d have reviewed the footage and taken points off after the first warning since he decided to be a dick.
here's the deal. Even if Thor had gotten 15 reps and they tied, Thor was clearly struggling and barely getting those last ones in with good form. Eddie had perfect form in every last rep that he did. Simple as that. 17:33 you see especially how not only is he double dipping but he stops extending his arms out all the way. Theres no denying Thor is strong, he's a great athlete. But he couldn't get the form down on this one and he ultimately lost because of it.
Thor should have lost 2 honestly. Colin gave him 3 yet took the point for 1. Thor could have lost even worse but Colin gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Until just now i had assumed you were all friends. You, Eddie Hall, are one of the strongest men in human history, and are the first man ever to deadlift half a ton. A literal half ton. Nothing anyone says can ever take that from you.
This video basically make me respect Eddie even more he does every rep cleanly while Hafthor was sluggish. You can even hear Nick shouting "STOP AT THE TOP THOR"
Maverick92 stfu pls. That means nothing he clearly did many illegal reps but was given the benefit of the doubt on all but one. Don’t bring that argument here please
@@louisf.3660 I looked it up: If Thor would have less than 12 reps in the event Brian would have one point more in the final standings and Thor one point less (assuming he had over 8 legit reps), which would give them both 49 points and a shared 2nd place (if they even do shared final rankings)
Not only was he completely gassed at the end of his "14" reps, but you were looking strong and able to do at least one more if need be. So even if they counted his 15th with 3-4 bad reps, then you would have just done 16 and beat him anyway.. Lets be real.
Jaeger Eren no way bro. He went down when he was supposed to. Plus he didn’t double dip and he had a full lockout every time. The ref even said he gave Thor a few of those bad reps.
I really liked what Laurence said about how Eddie would have won anyways. I mean that’s pretty true, even if they did give the last rep to Thor he seemed to be pretty gassed at that point anyways and Eddie would have just muscled out a 16th rep to win it. There’s really no point in arguing it, Eddie just came in more focused and prepared that year.
That fact is utterly visible. 15th rep or no, thor was gassed, Eddie wasn’t. Eddie was stronger, Eddie would have won the event regardless, you can see it clearly, Eddie had more reps in him when he stopped.
I'm so glad this exists I completely agree it's now cut & dry for all of us to see Eddie won with 15 perfect reps. Thor with 14 reps that probably partly due to his height / joint configuration are all sloppy ... or maybe more likely he just wasn't strong enough. This really drives home this famous quote for me though "Never leave anything up to the judges." I wish Eddie had muscled out as many more reps as he could do ... even one which it looked like he would have done easily would have ended this nightmare. Although as Nick Best said there were plenty more events to come I'm sure strategically to Eddie that wouldn't have made sense. But if I'm going to learn from what's happened to eddie, it's that winning by a margin needs to become winning by a mile if you don't want same mistakes repeated.
I'm confused by this video as its edited to appear that the Viking Press was the only controversial event, isn't Thor's claim about most or all of the other events? I could be wrong, not following that closely. In any case, from this one video, it is clear that Eddie was the better man on the Viking Press.
@@JT-ic9mp The biggest claim of being cheated was from this event, and he didn't even mention when Eddie destroyed him in deadlift and made it look easy.
Look at how absolutely clean each and every one of Eddie's reps are. They're textbook. Then look at how sloppy and soft half of Thor's reps were. It's incomparable. Nothing worse than a bad sport, and a sore loser in professional sports.
@@elliotriosrivera2196 This. It's not about how long you have to hold it, it's about demonstrating control. If the rep looks clean and it's up there, a quick down signal will be issued. If the competitor is shaking, bending knees or has poor technique, they may hold the down signal a bit longer just to ensure they can hold the rep and didnt just throw it up there.

If the judges weren't cheating the winner would have been very clear. The beast was cheated and still won. I said what I said.
I find this true in all sports, its never going to be 100% fair. Thor had a chance to forget about the loss of points and to keep lifting until 20 or so complete lifts but he gave up after a rocky 14. I believe he learned his lesson from this already though. Both lifters should be congratulated and not yelled at, they have both accomplished impossible feats!

Eddie was always far, far stronger in all pressing events than every other competitor in this line up other than maybe Zydrunas. Making such a scene out of this is just ridicolous on Thors behalf.
Yeah this made me sad. I’d have done it straight away Eddie. Hope this video helps you feel like you’re closing a chapter. It completely clears your name.
Except it tries to make it look like Thor didn't even shake his hand on the podium, which he did. Also, it doesn't comment on the allegations that the events were changed in Eddie's favor. Just saying.
Mikael Rasmussen mate, he had to encourage Thor to even shake his hand. Even that was resentful. Regardless of how invested I am in this being a true supporter of Eddie. He just lost man. It wasn’t his year. Eddie should have been able to enjoy that. Real sad.
@@ToggleDebugCamera well one person has to initiate the hand shake, and of course a top athlete is gonna be bitter from taking 2nd. I could understand all the hate of he refused to shake his hand, but he did reach for it immediately.
Mikael Rasmussen even if you’re an elite athlete and you are greatly disappointed that you got 2nd, there is no excuses for bad sportsmanship and being outwardly bitter towards the winner.
Eddie's form is so flawless on his 15 reps that it almost makes Thor's rep-count irrelevant. Meaning, even with a tie, it's clear Eddie has the superior press strength and should take the event. He squats, thrusts, locks the knees completely as to leave no room for doubt, even gets a forward lean getting his head through the window, and locks the elbows. Maybe Thor should stop studying his GoT lines during training season because clearly he couldn't keep straight whether he's supposed to bend the knee in this scene.
I don't really understand why there's discussion about this episode: Hall did 15 reps then stops because there was no need for others, but he got clearly time and physical condition to continues his effort if needed. Bjornsson was clearly shorter in time and strength left: he would have never win with 15 or even 16, probably.
@@MicuBamba Exactly, if Thor did 15 reps, Eddie could do 16, etc. I don't know why he even contested it when its obvious Eddie was much better at the event.

Looked like he barely did 10 that should have counted.
Exactly. The hammer got hammered fair and square by the better man. Bad loser and it is always nice to see somebody try to blame someone or something else for their own failure.
It just makes Eddie look the better man out of it.

@Blubber I prefer Eddie and think he's stronger, but Thors height is a disadvantage on deadlifts lol. You have to lift the weight further.
*Eddie's knees and elbows were rock solid. Hafthor's were wobbly and not locked out half the time... It's very clear who won.*
Eddies lifts were clean as. No issues there!
Yup. I se Halfthor got like 7 or 8 god reps out of 15
You have to also remember, Thor's argument is completely based on the fact, if that rep was allowed it would have been 15 each, and the overall score would have been a tie, not the one point Eddie beat him by.

It's sad Eddie didn't get the enjoyment and recognition of legitimately winning the world strongest man 2017!!!!!
The real tragedy, besides Eddie and the referees reputations slandered, is the fact that this documentary clearing their names won’t get anywhere near as much media attention as the original controversy.
Well, 6 million views is a lot
6.5M views and 200k likes later...
Also why didnt this guy release this footage in 2017 after he filmed it!!! Why let eddie take all this bs for so long!
If Hafthor has to blame someone, it can only be his trainer who didn't teach him how to properly do the excercise.
More like one of his 'yes men' then a trainer
Yes I agree, watching the video closely Eddies technique was clean & without doubt deserved the win. So sad to pi** on Eddies chips as we say in the UK 😊

The only person that robbed him was himself. He was given numerous warnings and Eddie had enough in the tank to do a 16th lift anyway. Congrats Eddie you deserved it. You’ll always have us in your corner
Hafthor got three mulligans. His actual score should have been 11.

Eddie's down call was .5 second though. I agree that he had clean reps.
@@cheemscheemson1782 the cleaner the rep looks the faster the ref will give you the down signal.

I'm not even a big watcher of the sport, but you can easily see Eddie certainly won without a doubt. It all comes down to ego, and that's not a jab at those who compete. You need that mindset to be able to push through the pain and exhaustion to keep moving forward. Hats off to you, Eddie, mate. You could have gone more had the need for it been there. I'm three years late commenting, but having come across the video and seen it, it's plain to see you won without question.
When played side by side you can really see how flawless Eddie's reps were in comparison

There is no doubt that Eddie Hall won that event and is the world’s strongest man. Eddie’s technique and control over the viking press was impressive, not to mention that in the viking press, the taller you are the less weight you actually lift…science. Congratulations, Beast. You are a badass!
maybe you should check the science again because science say you are wrong
How does being taller make you lift less weight ?
@@senseithomes if you were lifting something long that is connected with ground and you are lifting only one end of it, it would get easier as you are nearing more and more to vertical position ( __ ----> | ), so i guess if you are taller you start in a more vertical position
THE JUDGES DID CHEAT!!!! Hafthor was GIVEN points out of "confusion, respect", we all saw he shouldn't have been given 14 let alone 12. The judges were soft of him from jump.
Wait, if i'm reading this correctly, you just countered the argument by saying that the judges cheated, then provided evidence that they didn't?

I like Eddie hall. He was a champ that day for sure. It was a sad moment when eddie said no one congratulate him yet that day.
Yeah that was a sad moment. Poor sportsmanship from everyone at that moment really.
Dude when he said that i had to hold myself from crying a lot.
Kinda gross how he tried to guilt trip people who are just doing their job, with his daughter.

Yep, used to be a fan... no longer. Just a big crybaby when he doesn't get his way, not a man of honor and humility whatsoever.
Theo I don’t really think he deserves to have no respect tbh. Nobody likes losing, especially when it’s at something you’ve dedicated your entire life toward, and we all do and convince ourselves of shit that’s wrong. Plus he has since proved that he deserves the title fair and square, just not that year.
Trevor Yeah, everyone else also trained for it their entire lives. And Thor’s bs story took away Eddie’s “fame”. He won it fairly and no one congratulated him for it, cause of Thor.
Eddie had more in the tank anyway, if Thor's last rep was indeed counted and he was given 15, Eddie would have gone for and gotten 16 with relative ease.
Yep. He would've lost anyway.

Maybe Thor should stop studying his GoT lines during training season because clearly he couldn't keep straight whether he's supposed to bend the knee in this scene.
this whole comment is gold
I don't really understand why there's discussion about this episode: Hall did 15 reps then stops because there was no need for others, but he got clearly time and physical condition to continues his effort if needed. Bjornsson was clearly shorter in time and strength left: he would have never win with 15 or even 16, probably.
