Hey everyone, thank you so much for watching! Please consider subscribing to the channel. By the way, what' one of your favorite moments in the film? It pulled at my heart strings when Seth and Veronica had their conversation right before her visit to the Doctor. "I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the dream is over, and the insect is awake."
The "character gets powers and immediately has to do a shirtless workout" trope from The Fly was used in the series; Heroes regarding a specific character which I won't spoil.
I appreciate you watching all the hardcore movies from the late 80s like Robocop and The Fly. Those were good times in the theater and renting from the video store
Man I'm really digging these amazing practical effects and how it makes the gore that much more intense because it's all tangible, unlike so much CGI today. I've got many more of these gems to check out! :)
"Be afraid. Be very afraid." Fun Fact: Mel Brooks didn't want people to know he was a producer for the film, because he thought people wouldn't take it seriously if they knew he was involved. Real Reaction Fact: Geena Davis claims that the only time she felt "grossed out" by the amount of gore was in the scene where Seth's ear falls off and she holds him. She states that her reaction to holding her face up to Jeff Goldblum's was not acting and that she was indeed really grossed out. Doctor Cronenberg Fact: After watching some of his early films, director Martin Scorsese asked to meet David Cronenberg. Upon meeting him, Scorsese said he looked like a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. This inspired Cronenberg to give himself a cameo as a doctor. It was Geena Davis's idea that he appear as the gynecologist. Pinocchio's Revenge Fact: Two puppeteers were located underneath the floor animating the inside-out baboon while a third pumped blood. All three of them had to wear raincoats because of the large amounts of blood being pumped. Frequently the rest of the crew would break for lunch and forget about the three underneath the floor.
Certainly a spectacular film with a filmmaker and team that put in so much hard work and effort to bring this incredible monster transformation to life! I also love how it's just a thrilling story that keeps you engaged
It was incredible to see all detail within each phase of the transformation! I liked how it kept escalating and that final show of him as (Brundel, Fly, and Telepod), BRILLIANT!
I was 12 in 1986, and by then, i was already a horror/gore hound. I begged my dad to take me to see this. We saw it at the Melody 49 Drive-In near Dayton, OH. It's a great summer memory. Incidentally, ALIENS came out that year too. It was a good summer to be a twelve year old! Great reaction!
Jeff Goldblum & Geena Davis had undeniable chemistry which extended to real life for about 5 years of marriage. Davis starred with Goldblum in a ridiculous but cult-classic film called Earth Girls are Easy (1988) which is as silly as it sounds. She is spectacular in The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996) with Samuel L Jackson - don't even want to spoil that movie with a synopsis. Most teleporters are limited to places they can see - you need line-of-sight so blinding a teleporter or being unable to focus limits the ability. The 2008 film; Jumper with Hayden Christensen centered around a teleporting character if you haven't seen it. There's a comic book character from MARVEL's New Mutants named Lila Cheney who's considered a celestial teleporter because she can ONLY teleport long distances - from Earth to the Moon and farther for example.
It definitely doesn't surprise me how they ended having a real relationship, their chemistry was so good in this film! I have "The Long Kiss Goodnight" on my list so looking forward to that one :) As far as teleporting, I guess I want the deluxe package lol and would want to travel across the world in a split second. If I could only do it where I have line of sight than I'd rather go with "regeneration/healing factor" and go fight crime haha! But the downside of that would be outliving the people you love. I guess telekinesis would be next 😂 What would you pick???
@@jessebatres6895 Shapeshifting would be fun. Mystique was used better in the X-Men comics but her line in the X-2 film about mutants not having to hide who they are speaks volumes - and makes up for how they handled her in that first trilogy. In the comics, Raven and a woman named Irene Adler (a mutant who could see the future) were lovers but the MARVEL comics code wouldn't let that fly in the 80's. Mystique actually shape-shifted into a man to sire a child with Irene who of course grows up to be Nightcrawler.
This is one of the best horror movies out there! The 1958 original is pretty good too 👍🏾 Another good remake featuring Jeff Goldblum is Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1978 (the 1956 original's good too, lol). Also, you might be interested in seeing some other David Cronenburg movies too. He's considered to be one of the modern Masters of Horror, alongside John Carpenter, George Romero, Tobe Hooper and others. Some good Cronenburg's are Scanners (1981), The Brood (1979), and The Dead Zone (1983, starring Christopher Walken).
There's so many amazing elements in this film and executed so well! Performances, setting, soundtrack, practical effects, the STORY, etc. Just so damn good in all those areas! I'll have to add "The Body Snatchers" to my list, and will definitely be checking out more of David Cronenburg's work. I'm ashamed to say I haven't even heard of any of this films you listed, BUT that gets me so excited to be introduced to another lens of horror and see his vision of horror come to life :)
This came out at the peak of practical fx work in the 80s. Horror was becoming more mainstream and acceptable. SPFX work was being recognized and acknowledged as an art. It was so fun to watch the progress. Cronenberg made a classic here. His other work is worth looking into as well. My favorite was his adaptation of Stephen King's The Dead Zone. Also, Videodrome and Scanners.
NICE! I'm excited to see more of his work, and if they're even 1/4 as good as this film than I'll be more than satisfied lol! There's something so special about practical work that CGI can never overcome. The real tangible that is truly "being dissected, pulsing, oozing out liquid, etc" just hits way better
@@jessebatres6895 great reaction! i grow up with this movies , fantastic practical fx i recommend you : *The Witches* (1990) _starring Anjelica Huston_ (horror/comedy) ,
CGI has its place. It should be used in circumstances where it is impossible to create a physical, practical effect like the character of Gollum. The best CGI is stuff you don't even see. The problem is also that Spielberg set the bar so high with Jurassic Park that no one is willing to put on the work and do it correctly. And the more audiences accept bad CGI, the more you'll see.
Nothing beats practical effects, this film and The Thing are in the top especially The Thing, one of my favorite horror films, also a fun 80s horror is House, it's just classic 80s and has some fun looking monsters Geena Davis is an amazing actress, Thelma and Louise and The Long Kiss Goodnight are a must watch
Ah HOUSE! That's one of the next horror ones I have to check out. I'll have Misery uploaded in a few days, so I think House will be my next horror one :) Another horror film that I'll be checking out in December is "Black Christmas" 1974. Everyone is mentioning "The Long Kiss Goodnight", so that will come soon for sure. What genre is "Thelma and Louise"?
@jessebatres6895 Misery is so good, Bates won an Oscar for that role! Black Christmas is good too fun holiday horror 😁 Thelma and Louise is action/adventure/drama/ some humor thrown in there it also stars Susan Sarandon who is also a phenomenal actress Can't wait to you get to House!!!!
Seeing these movies for the first time is something wonderful... I envy you a little 😂 I saw it for the first time I think in '89 because at the time in Italy they broadcast the first TV viewing a few years later (at 8.30pm). Good times!!
Former heavyweight boxer George Chuvalo is the guy in the bar he arm wrestled with. He fought Ali twice back in the day. This is filmed in Toronto, so it's fun to recognize so many of the settings.
18:30 We learn right here, that Seth is a terrible scientist. You never tell the subject which one is the control and which one isn't. By revealing that information she may have given a faulty answer.... But that is actually subtle foreshadowing (Also he hints at this earlier when he talks about how he built the telepods.) 19:22 You know... The way the movie is structure, it does make Stathis look bad in the first act, but when you see the whole movie and pull back, realize that the movie has multiple themes at play. One of them is the failings of people in relationships. Brundle is jealous, Stathis is obsessive, and Veronica SUCKS at communication. It can, and does, paint a picture of what the Stathis-Veronica relationship was probably like. What we see in the movie is a relationship in its death throws, and Veronica jumps into a romance with Seth before she's done with Stathis. 21:00 yep, the movie got you. She's rushing way too fast, and you as the audience, are bought in. They barely know each other and she's already slept with him and is talking about going on a trip. Why? Because Veronica is, and I hate to say this, a bit of a monkey-brancher. Seth, of course, is naive, slightly stunted socially, and as we see in a minute... 22:52 This is Stathis actually showing he's not the guy you think he is. He does genuinely care about her, probably really did love her a great deal. It wasn't perfect. It was human. 23:17 ...There it is. The jealousy, and insecurity. Seth is impulsive. 25:15 Yeah, but again, Seth isn't actually the greatest scientist. IN reality a test like that would need IMMENSE control... and of course the other aspect is he's working in a pretty dusty/dirty apartment. Which should be teaming with other biological matter. Some people speculate the telepods have some level of sterilizing going on during the porting, but the movie doesn't really cover that. 25:47 Yeah, the movie wants you to judge him like that, but in reality if most people were honest about some of their break ups they would admit that we've all done things we regret in the process of a break up. 28:57 Interesting thing that is never explicitly stated here, but I sincerely believe this after seeing the movie many times. I think Seth's human side, the need to reproduce, goes into over-drive after being fused with the fly DNA. At this point he still derives pleasure from the act. 30:17 Her line amuses me in retrospect, because she hadn't been with Seth for very long at this point. She actually doesn't really know him. They talked, they had a date, they slept together, they continued to sleep together after he fixed the telepod, and then he went through. She only knew him, max, for a couple weeks up to this point. That's not enough time for a person's true personality to be fully mapped out. So, for all she knows, this could actually be what he's really like when he doesn't get his way. Ditto for the audience, in fact. 33:50 Right there. The look on his face is no longer a man who is taking pleasure from sex. It starts hurting. His hyper-active sex drive begins to break down now. The Fly DNA starts to win the battle inside of him. The human part of him is officially dying. 34:32 Here's the really scary thought. Seems pretty obvious that Seth had a marathon with her... and there's no indication that they used protection. - It's possible Seth impregnated Tawny. 40:54 Seth. Stathis may be a bit of a prick, but he *does* care about her. Recall back to what Veronica said earlier "How could he(Stathis) not be?(In love with me.)" That says a lot about how Veronica thinks about herself, and the way she behaves with men. It's not so clear cut and dry that Stathis is just a badguy. Far from it, in fact. 43:01 Because the reality is, he wasn't *that big* of a fucker. He was just a boyfriend who got left behind and he was (rightfully) hurt. We see it from her and Seth's perspective, and we're rooting for them to be together, so we automatically assume he's a POS. 44:56 Most people don't catch it on a first watch, but his penis is in that cabinet. The final resting place of his human reproductive system, and no hope of continuance of his humanity beyond himself. Also the rather violent displacement of his furniture in the apartment paints a picture of some horrifying things that we've missed up to this point. 47:59 The affirmation of the previous point. His humanity is draining fast. Even his word use here is limited. Which gets more and more extreme from this point of the movie going forward. In the end, the movie is about the breakdown of relationships and human frailty, and it's about the loss of a loved one to addiction, obsession, or disease. In the end, none of them were happy. As a suggestion, not entirely related, but one of my personal favorite movies and one selfdom covered "A Simple Plan" from 1998. I think you will enjoy it.
oh yea, Cronenberg is also a 80s 90s icon that gave us kids back then some of the most gnarly practical effects we could imagine, luv his work. also if you're a geena davis fan now check out The Long Kiss Goodnight.
This film blew me away! I loved how it made me feel disgusted at certain moments but also captivated by the body horror and practical work. I was thinking "That's disgusting! I love it!" haha!
I'll be checking it out in December for sure :) By the way Rich, thank you so much for joining the Patreon my friend! I'll have some polls available soon where you'll be able to vote on some films for me to watch. Again, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support!
@@jessebatres6895 my pleasure. Your reaction to Black Christmas is greatly anticipated! Best of luck with the Patreon - I hope you make a billion dollars!!
For more of Goldblum and Davis - Earth Girls Are Easy (wacky 80s comedy) For some underrated Goldblum - Hideaway, with Alicia Silverstone (a dark thriller) For Geena Davis at peak badass - Long Kiss Goodnight (a Christmas movie😅)
OH NICE!!!! Dude, so many people are bringing up "A Long Kiss Good Night" and that's badass to know that it has Christmas elements. Going to have to squeeze it in during December for sure, along with some other Christmas films as well :)
I was probably 10-12 years old the first time I saw this ( Yes things were different back then) and it still hasn’t been beaten. Just so good in every way
I have always said there should be a belated Oscar category for people unfairly overlooked at the time. Jeff Goldblum in this film would be my first nomination
He wasn't nominated?!! I just went back to look at the nominations for this film, and I don't know why I thought I had seen he was nominated for an Oscar. Shit, it's like that's what my mind wanted to see. His performance was definitely worthy of a nomination.
I watched X-Men 2 as a kid, and the part that probably stuck with me the most was that White House scene. So badass! I just feel there's so much you can take advantage of with that superpower
@jessebatres6895 Hey, I saw your "Aliens" reaction 👍 and noticed you're a Bill Paxton fan. If you haven't seen the movie "Frailty," definitely check it out. It not only stars Bill Paxton, but he also directed it. Good low-budget horror/thriller.
This was great to see at 15 yro in the theater, & is a masterpiece itself, but i was first turned on to Cronenberg at 10 in another of his masterpieces "Scanners" when my mom's mother died. She pawned me & my sis off on dad for a while & i remember seeing 3 great movies with just us & dad. That one, a great based on true case horror supernatural hardly anyone nowadays remembers called "The Entity", & the only King Arthur flick i ever cared for, ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE "Excalibur". Sad to say i could never enjoy Lord of the Rings because many of us 70s kids are allergic to cgi😅, but if whoever made that had made LOTR with zero cgi i believe i would've loved it/them. After Scanners Cronenberg's "Videodrome" hit & is considered a cult classic masterpiece all its own, is prophetic af, but not for everyone.😅 Same with his "Naked Lunch" if your familiar with William S. Burroughs, not for everyone!😅 Another great pick. Unfortunately i missed the last few drops. Will catch up on your journey when i can. Hope all's well, stays well, friend. Happy Holidays! See ya. ✌️🌎❤️
Thanks, Jesse! 🪰 I hope this opens you up to more body-horror. 🔸 I just saw Mr. Goldblum yesterday in WICKED: PART ONE (2024). I hope you'll react to that someday.
Definitely will! I had heard Cronenberg's name before, but I'm ashamed to say that I'm uneducated on his work. Looking forward to seeing more of his unique style and vision!

There's been a wave of comments about The Long Kiss Goodnight, so I just have to check it out this upcoming month! I'm putting "A League of Their Own" on my list. Thanks for the recommendation!!
Agreed! It's pretty sad to think back to their last moment before he teleported where they're talking about taking a vacation like an old married couple. Makes you wonder about what could've been. 💔 Also, it's easy to feel awful about his physical transformation, but it's absolutely gut wrenching to see him breakdown internally.
Hey there! I'm definitely going to check out The Clone Wars. I'll be uploading a post either tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll be reacting to all the episodes and they'll be available for free on my Patreon, which I just launched. I'll then be uploading them to RUclips. The reason for this is because RUclips is pretty stringent on Star Wars stuff and I like to include as much as possible. I'll have the first 2 episodes available on Patreon this week. I'm going in chronological order as well :) This will give people a chance to watch them on Patreon, and I may have to then edit them down some more to get them through the RUclips overlords lol!

The original is also pretty good. There were two sequels to it, but spare yourself and don't bother watching them. Both of them were hasitly thrown together cash grabs and they are terrible.
American Werewolf in London, The Thing and this one are 80's non-slasher horror classics.
Yes, a masterpiece. I’m so glad you chose to react to this. You’re a natural at this kind of content.
Oh and “be afraid. Very afraid”
This film blew me away! I loved how it made me feel disgusted at certain moments but also captivated by the body horror and practical work. I was thinking "That's disgusting! I love it!" haha!
@ please consider watching 1974’s Black Christmas before it gets another year older.
For more of Goldblum and Davis - Earth Girls Are Easy (wacky 80s comedy)
For some underrated Goldblum - Hideaway, with Alicia Silverstone (a dark thriller)
For Geena Davis at peak badass - Long Kiss Goodnight (a Christmas movie😅)
OH NICE!!!! Dude, so many people are bringing up "A Long Kiss Good Night" and that's badass to know that it has Christmas elements. Going to have to squeeze it in during December for sure, along with some other Christmas films as well :)
George Chuvalo is the armwrestling guy. He fought Muhammad Ali twice. One of the best chins in boxing history
Another comment to say, I love your black and orange gothic Halloween coffe cup.. 🖤🧡🎃☕
You're gonna see some cool ones for Christmas! :) One of them has Max from The Grinch, which has his head as a swivel. Poor Max lol!
@jessebatres6895 I can't wait. I love different kinda coffee cups. You definitely need a PO box so I can send you some that you would love.
I was probably 10-12 years old the first time I saw this ( Yes things were different back then)
and it still hasn’t been beaten. Just so good in every way
I’m eating while watching your reaction. That’s how many times I’ve seen this movie. And yes, it’s a sci-fi masterpiece.
HAHA!!! I could picture you taking a bite while Seth's ear falls off and you nonchalantly savoring your food and not being phased 😂
@ Not the least bit… And I don’t skip dessert either! 😂
One of the two best practical effects movies ever; this and The Thing...my opinion.
If teleportation is the superpower you wish you had, then I'm assuming you're a fan of Nightcrawler from X-Men.
Burroughs, not for everyone!😅
Another great pick. Unfortunately i missed the last few drops. Will catch up on your journey when i can. Hope all's well, stays well, friend. Happy Holidays!
See ya.
✌️🌎❤️
Yay! 🪰🪰🪰🪰
I feel like flies are gonna start to freak me out now lol!
Thanks, Jesse! 🪰 I hope this opens you up to more body-horror. 🔸 I just saw Mr. Goldblum yesterday in WICKED: PART ONE (2024). I hope you'll react to that someday.
Salut Jesse "La mouche" en Français, excellent film 🎬👍
Thank you so much! Yes an excellent film with so many spectacular moments :)
Cronenberg is a master of body horror and psychodrama. Give Scanners a try for another 80s body horror sci-fi.
Definitely will! I had heard Cronenberg's name before, but I'm ashamed to say that I'm uneducated on his work. Looking forward to seeing more of his unique style and vision!
Hola Jesse
New drop had to check it out❤
Great Reaction as always, this is definitely an oldie, GROWDDY, but goodie sci fi classic 💯
More Geena Davis must watch
-Long kiss Goodnight w/Samuel Jackson 7:46
-League of their own w/Tom Hanks
On a side note check out
- Too Wong Foo, a "LOL" comedy w/ Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, John Leguizamo, Robin Williams and Rupaul.
Hola Emily! Espero que hayas disfrutado el fin de semana! :)
I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction! The film blew me away!
There's been a wave of comments about The Long Kiss Goodnight, so I just have to check it out this upcoming month! I'm putting "A League of Their Own" on my list. Thanks for the recommendation!!
OMG I also just had left over BBQ for dinner! Hahaha
Haha! I wonder how people must've felt in the theater with their popcorn and hot dogs while watching all those gruesome scenes lol
It's such a clever tragic love story with a thinking man's Sci fi
Agreed! It's pretty sad to think back to their last moment before he teleported where they're talking about taking a vacation like an old married couple. Makes you wonder about what could've been. 💔 Also, it's easy to feel awful about his physical transformation, but it's absolutely gut wrenching to see him breakdown internally.
@jessebatres6895 you're right!
Should always test stuff before releasing it... the Fly vs reality.
A tragic love story...💔
It's so sad to think about how they could've had a happy life. "An old married couple that takes trips." 💔
Hey man pretty new here just saw that you reacted to Star wars movies will you be doing the clone wars?
I'm going in chronological order as well :)
This will give people a chance to watch them on Patreon, and I may have to then edit them down some more to get them through the RUclips overlords lol!
@jessebatres6895 that's awesome can't wait to see the clone wars reactions cause your star wars movie ones were so genuine and fun to watch ❤️ keep it up man what is your patreon? Can't find the name

@@jessebatres6895 thank you very much
Bet you didn't see the sleaze being the hero?
@@voodoochile333 OOOOFFF! Man Stathis had me going all over the place at the end there lol! I found myself rooting for his ass when he was crawling towards the telepod. He’s gotta get the girl after sacrificing limbs lol
My superpower: invisibility
@@ChrisJohnson-ql1xn A damn good one bro! I would also include stealth so that you could run and make noise lol
Dont sleep on The Fly 2 just cause Gina and Jeff dont return . Special effects are even better . Spoiler alert , she had the baby ...
🖥 🪰🪰WTF?
✌️🌎❤️
The original is also pretty good. There were two sequels to it, but spare yourself and don't bother watching them. Both of them were hasitly thrown together cash grabs and they are terrible.
The sequel to this movie is OK, but it has been ages since I last saw it.
If you haven't seen it, try Geena and Jeff in "Transylvania 6-500".
Did you know Geena and Jeff were married
@@margiewilliams537 Yeah I looked up details on the film afterwards and was shocked to see that! But then again, I can see how co stars can fall for each other, especially when they play love interests.
@jessebatres6895
The scene where his ear falls off, they didn't tell Geena that was going to happen
They wanted to get her natural reaction
I hate this movie like as soon as he becomes more and more fly like I saw this at my second grandma’s house
Always annoys me how we never find out about her baby. Why even bother introducing that plot point
@@clarkness77 It would’ve been cool to see the outcome of that story line. I guess they used it to give Seth a reason to go after Veronica
The Fly II explains everything and continues the story.
