    The fly doesn't take hold immediately because it's mass is so much smaller than Brundle, whereas the door of the pod is more equal. Think about if you place a small drop of food colouring into water, it will slowly disperse into the water eventually colouring it all over time. Whereas if you drop in a shot glass worth it will colour the water immediately.

    • @tubekulose
      @tubekulose Месяц назад +1

      I think it's pretty futile to try to explain how it works because almost nothing teleportation-related makes any sense in this movie.
      If Brundle's computer has the unpleasant habit of not reproducing the original presented to him exactly as it finds it, why did it cross Brundle with this specific fly of all things?
      It could just as well have genetically combined him with every single-celled organism in the telepod.
      Or even more obviously: It could have taken the approximately 4 cubic meters of air that are in the pod and made a gigantic meat balloon or whatever out of Brundle.
      The "artificial" taste of the steak, which was previously teleported, cannot be explained either. With the piece of meat, the computer apparently made no mistake and arranged the molecules correctly. In this case, it shouldn't taste any different than the original.
      Please don't get me wrong. I loved this film as a child and I still do, but not only from a physical point of view but also from a purely logical one it is nonsense. 😁
      Sorry for my clumsy English, I don't speak it that often. 🙂

    • @dmore
      @dmore Месяц назад +2

      @ Well firstly I wasn’t explaining exactly ‘how’, more simply the ethos around why there was a difference in timing.
      In regards to your points on single celled organisms and the air in the pod, it’s pretty logical that the computer would have had to be programmed to account for naturally occurring ‘background noise’ in order to identify subjects within the pod.
      Even if it did somehow try to combine the air, the pods aren’t air tight, so it wouldn’t be possible for the computer to achieve that outcome as it can’t create a vacuum in the pod. It’s logical it would be programmed to ensure a breathable atmosphere remained to ensure test subjects survived.
      The steak point is discussed in the movie, he posits that the steak has been recreated not transported. As such it isn’t the same steak. Twins are biologically identical… doesn’t make them the same person.
      But more to the point, it’s a movie… it doesn’t need to be scientifically flawless.

    i like your question 'how do you un-fly yourself' - i guess technically if brundle did go through the system and the computer could differentiate between fly and brundle, and if he had a sample of his original dna code, it could transport and separate the code if it is reconstructing him during transport arrival....- but then there would be no movie lol. Geena and Jeff like their weird theme films together - they also did 'Earth girls are easy' with an unknown actor then called Jim Carey :)

    If you are old enough to recall the days of audiocassette tape, you may remember a commercial aired beginning in 1971 for a company called Memorex, which asked the question, “Is it Live or is it Memorex?” In the commercial Ella Fitzgerald sang a note that shattered a wine glass while her voice was being recorded on a Memorex tape. When they played the tape Ella’s voice still shattered a glass. 🍷

    19:00 This issue what "AI" like ChatGPT is about and why so many get confused. ChatGPT isn't an AI per se, it just replicates what has already been written. Forming sentences based upon enormous amounts of examples. Even back when this was made they identified the step needed to turn the "Language model" into a true "AI". Not just replicating existing translations but forming unique ones based upon understanding. Like forming your own opinions based on data and experience instead of basing them on other peoples opinions. The first baboon was correctlu re-assembled but only on the basic molecular level. The other structures weren't programmed to be taken into consideration, like "skin goes outside of the organs". :)

    There's a conversation to be had about actors who stop acting and just start being exaggerated versions of themselves in films. I love Jeff Goldblum, but this was back when he actually performed. Now, he goes hard on what people call the Goldbulm-isms. But if you watch his early stuff, he's an incredible actor when he really goes in for a performance. Not that he's not good in his recent performances, but pretty much after The Lost World: Jurassic Park, he started leaning into the Goldblum-isms.

    I think ye misinterpreted the 'the flesh makes you crazy' line.
    They weren't talking about the effects of eating flesh. They were talking about the look, feel, heat taste etc of flesh while it's on another person and the effect it can have on other people (in a non cannibalistic way).
