I want you guys to appreciate this...This movie had one of the first mega-marketing merchandise campaigns. Batman was EVERYWHERE in 1989. Toys, commercials, clothes...people even carved the Bat-signal in their hair! You couldn't take two steps in public without seeing something Batman or Joker. It was nuts!
I came here to leave the same comment. Younger people dont realize how huge this film was. I never saw anything like it since. It was a cultural phenomenon. You couldn't even look outside for months without seeing someone sporting bat gear. It was unreal
The summer of 1989 was insanely loaded, movie wise. Batman, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ghostbusters II, Lethal Weapon 2, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, Parenthood, Do The Right Thing, License To Kill, Roadhouse, Star Trek V, When Harry Met Sally etc. Only 1984 surpassed it.
Jack’s Joker is incredible. He’s so dementedly hilarious and twisted. For a movie aimed at all four quadrants, a Joker that mutilates his victims and makes artwork out of their corpses is dark as hell.
@@bryanmack4054 he had a script all ready to go for a third movie. Billie Dee Williams was supposed to come back as Harvey Dent / Two Face. And we were going to see Catwoman again. Unfortunately, he and the studio butted heads on the budget and Burton threw his hands up and said eff it.
@@SurvivorBri I think Burton's departure had to do with the cancellation of the McDonald's Happy Meals that included Batman Returns toys. Parents complained that the film was too violent and depressing, prompting McDonald's to pull the promotion, losing millions of dollars. However, Burton was not actually fired, because he was relegated to the role of producer of Batman Forever. He was even offered to direct the Superman movie with Nicholas Cage that was never filmed.
No he didn't poison all the cosmetics. He tainted different products with different chemicals so when certain products were used together the different chemicals would react together to create the toxic effect.
Fun Facts: The movie buzz was REALLY taken seriously when it was announced Jack Nicholson was signed on. His name alone gave the movie serious weight, because up to that point Michael Keaton was known for only comedic roles and Kim Basinger (who played Vicky Vale) wasn’t yet a household name. There were other stars of old in the movie also. Also, Prince did all original songs for the movie.
Danny has created tons of great movie music and that’s not even counting his music with Oingo Boingo. I love his music for Michael Keaton Batman movies and Beetlejuice.
For me, Nicholson is the true Joker. A madman turning everything, even the worst abomination, into a joke, and laugh at it. The scene where he fries the guy and tell his corpse "I'm glad you're dead" and burst out laughing really is the Joker for me.
Michael Biehn said on his podcast that the final auditions were between Keaton/Biehn for Batman and Jack/Robin Williams for Joker. Burton paired them off with eachother to find who he liked more. Jack was chosen because he had a more sinister edge, but Burton loved Robin and had planned to use him as the Riddler in the 2nd sequel. Burton left the Batman series due to issues with the studio after Batman Returns and both Keaton and Robin Williams left as well. And that's how the Riddler went to Jim Carrey.
This comment actually makes me wonder if the writer-director who created Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise took some inspiration from this film, because art does abominable things and laughs about it.
I met Jack Nicholson at a Christmas gala in sun Valley. I was working at the resort and my roommate didn't want to serve at the movie star party, so I volunteered. It was awesome! Everyone was there. Arnold and Maria, Bruce and Demi, John Fogarty, Kurt Russell, Shaq, and about 2300 other A listers and sports heroes. I was out by the big round hottub collecting trash and glasses when someone behind me said, "hey sport, you got a light?" I turned around and he was standing there holding a doob. He was super cool and he seemed genuinely impressed when I wasn't talking about Batman, but Chinatown and one flew over the cukoos nest. We smoked and talked for about 20 minutes.
@@nathansylvester5193 I fell asleep the first time I watched The Exorcist. I'd heard for so many years how it was the scariest movie ever made, how people were screaming and running from the theater, etc. so, as a teen who loved horror movies, I went in with big expectations. 30 minutes in, I was bored and fell asleep. As an adult, I've gone back and watched it all the way through and enjoyed it, appreciating the slow burn, but that and Fantasia are the only two movies I can remember falling asleep during. I don't remember falling asleep to any movie as a 5 year old, though, but I probably wouldn't have. I LOVED watching movies growing up and was always very excited any time my parents took us to the theater. As for OP's story and the commenter calling it a lie, I grew up in and around LA and you see celebrities all the time. I ran into Cameron Diaz so many times (once literally, in a restaurant when I wasn't looking where I was walking) that I joked to friends that she was stalking me. I almost hit Helen Hunt with my car once leaving my house (she stopped in the crosswalk and did her famous smirk at me, though she didn't do it as fanservice but rather to indicate that I was an idiot). I was in a bar with Tarantino, had a brief exchange with Leonardo DiCaprio at Universal Studios, chatted with countless of my favorite musicians at small clubs (even helped a member of one of my favorite punk bands psych himself up before a date), and have seen more random porn stars walking around malls than you can shake your stick at (sightings that usually start with me trying to place where I know that person from, thinking maybe they went to my school or I knew them from an old job or something). I've seen so many celebs out and about in the city that I couldn't even begin to name them all. I tell you this not to say, "Boy, aren't I cool for having seen so many celebs?" (bc who cares?) but more to say that, if you live in and around certain parts of LA, it's not that out of the ordinary to see celebs, occasionally meet celebs, and, every once in a while if the situation is right, have a nice little interaction with a celeb. This is ESPECIALLY true if you work at a resort or a company that does catering for show biz folk. E.g. when I was going to school, I briefly worked as a server at some catering gigs for Hollywood folk and worked events like Beau Bridges's birthday party at his house, where I ended up having brief interactions with literally dozens of people I knew from movies and TV. If one of them had been smoking a lil' weed and asked me for a light, it wouldn't have been that far-fetched for them to offer me a hit and have a brief chat while they smoked. These things happen. Hell, if you want to smoke a little weed with, e.g., Kevin Smith, all you need to do is go to one of his live shows (like when he and Ralph were doing Hollywood Babble-On) and, after the show, go around to the back of the theater. While Ralph hangs out in the bar and drinks with people, Kevin hangs out in the back alley and smokes and talks with whatever fans show up. I know this from experience. So, honestly, I absolutely believe OP's story. These things happen all the time if you happen to frequent the sort of places where these people hang out. I mean, they're just people and they do people things, sometimes, when the mood strikes them, with other people, even when those other people don't happen to be famous.
@johnplaysgames3120 born in Santa Maria CA but I've only ever visited LA when I went to Universal studios hollywood .which was only 3 times, but my mom was a sixFlags junkie so we mostly visited Valencia CA . Later on, I lived in woodlake, which was about 20 min from lake Kaweah
My nephew got hooked on Batman and was probably around three or four years old. He kept saying in a raspy voice, "I'm Batman." So, for Halloween, I got him a Batman costume and mailed it to him. He sent me a homemade Batman thank you card that said, "Thank you for the suit. Now I have an extra one for when I fight the Joker." Of course, my sister helped him with that. 😂
I know I'm in the minority but this is the best Batman movie, in my opinion. Obviously nostalgia has a big part to play. But the basis of a grounded Joker wouldn't be what it is without this movie. Also certain shots and mannerisms wouldn't be a thing without Jack Nicholson's version. The dark, doomed feeling that the city was given almost being a character itself started with this movie. Keaton brings an uncertain personality to Bruce's character that I don't think has been matched. Everything else people say is based on the lack of action or CGI, which was limited at that time. I just love this movie!
@@incognito7039 I grew up reading comics (DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse), and Batman was one of my favorites. Anyways, I don't even want to get started on TDK, I saw it in theaters twice and I loved it, but that changed after a lot of thought into the character portrayal. Anyways, I too prefer Nicholson's version, because it is more comic book accurate, apart from him killing Bruces' parents. Ledger just played a psychopath wearing makeup, but without the quirks/props of the Joker, besides the laugh.
@@awesomness36 we live in a day that the Dark Knight is regarded as one of the best movies, not just Batman or comic book movies. Because of that we're in the minority. Unfortunately.
I think the Nolan flics did a lot right, but the original captured that comic book, early industrial era America feel. On the other hand, Batman is supposed to have a no killing rule but Burtons Batman greases everybody. I guess this Batman is my favorite because the Batman comics of the 80s had that 1920s style that Burton integrated into his movie. And Nicholson scared the hell out of 9 year old me in the theaters, and I wasnt the only one. Out of all the Jokers, this one is the most intimidating.
Tim Burton's "Batman" films still has best atmosphere there is. Music, gothic-horror style, color palette added with Danny Elfman's intense theme. Never fails to give me goosebumps. Also, not just a Jack Nicholson dance routine, a Jack Nicholson dance routine set to a Prince song. This movie is gold.
Y'all should check out the original "Superman" from the 70s with Christopher Reeve... it's kind of geared more towards kids but the ladies used to have major crushes on Christopher Reeve
Michael Biehn said on his podcast that Jack had to beat out Robin Williams to get this role. and that Biehn said Keaton won the role of Batman over him... it was the 4 of them that Burton made his final casting choice.
This was the first superhero movie besides Superman to ever be made into a blockbuster movie. 1989 I was 12 years old. I stood in line for this movie for hours three days in a row to see it over and over. 😂
In the comics, Joe Chill, a common street mugger, was responsible for killing Bruce's parents. When they made this movie, they took some liberties and made it the Joker to create a more definitive connection between the two... the Joker unintentionally created Batman by killing Bruce's parents and Batman unintentionally created the Joker by letting him fall into the vat of toxic waste. Fun fact, with Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27, he straight up murders a guy by punching him into a vat of acid. He also used to regularly carry a gun. But as time went on, that was historically retconned into Bruce not killing anyone and rarely using guns.... except in this movie, when he blows up a factory and tries to take out the joker with the Batwing. 🤫
This is also why I always laugh at pseudo DC fans that want to pretend they know more than us old school fans when they criticized Ben Affleck's Batman for killing people, and carrying a gun, as they were like "Batman never carries a gun, and he never killed...ever.." I even brought up this exact film to prove my point that Batman has killed before in various other media, yet they kept making excuses saying "nuh uh. Batman didn't know Joker was going to fall to his death when he used his grappling hook to tie his foot up to that gargoyle." Yet, when I even bring up the warehouse that he blows up fully seeing there were goons in there that were clearly going to die the instant those bombs went off, over half of the people i debated online either ignored that point, or they were like "That still doesn't prove batman killed people before in other media..." And I'm like..BRUH! I literally gave you several freaking examples, and I even used examples in "Batman Returns" of Batman not only KILLING people, but literally making it seem like he outright did that intentionally. And even if you want to argue that some of them didn't die, then you could at least argue that he literally tried to kill them. That's just fact. Don't get me wrong, I don't want Batman to be a straight up killer either, but we can't just ignore facts either. Also, I'm not saying Ben Affleck played a great Batman either, as his version had problems, but most of the problems weren't his fault to be fair. Plus, like Jared Leto, both he and Leto were never really allowed to flesh out their versions of the characters, Batman and Joker, due to lack of screen time for both characters in thier perspective appearances as said characters, and lousy scripts setting them both up.
Batman used to smack around Robin just to taunt him and keep him "on his toes" back in the Golden Age. He was also pretty awful with actually solving crimes and preventing people from getting killed (kind of like how Superman would pick up a crook to interrogate them and then immediately put them down in the middle of gunfire "accidentally"). Batman went from dark to campy and then finally Dennis O'Neil came in to straighten up the character in the late 70s and took over the line entirely by the mid 80s. From that point on, the tonal shift of Batman really took form and at the same time, The Dark Knight Returns and Year One were coming out. Mind you, a lot of this film was influenced by The Killing Joke, which, personally, I find to be rather overhyped. At least, looking back now. The ending is left ambiguous as to whether Batman kills the Joker or simply laughs along with him at the last funny joke ever. Originally that book was outside of continuity, but soon became assimilated into the core mythos of the continuity. Alan Moore had actually said he created the book to play AGAINST type and if he knew the entire industry would change to become dark and brooding like it, he never would have wrote it. Also... Batman puts a bomb on a clown and blows him up in Batman Returns, too. 🤫
@@newspooiechannel Batman has always been a switch blade type of character imo. I think Nolan even said it best that you could either play Batman as this over the top silly figure like Adam West did, or you can make him a dark serious character like how Nolan/Burton did it. When Batman came out, he was more of a homage to classic heroes that came before him like the Shadow, the Phantom and etc. But over time, he's become more of his own character, while still borrowing from the old pulp dark anti heroes that came before him. Yes, I'm also aware that Batman literally stole elements straight from the silent film, "The Bat", where it borders so far on copyright infringement that Batman wouldn't be able to get away with it today if they tried it again. XD Either way, I think Batman is an interesting character solely for that reason alone due to how versatile he is as a character. I just wish filmmakers would stop focusing on him being a grounded realistic character all the time. Yes, it was great when Nolan did it because we've never seen a grounded realistic Batman prior to that. Yeah, Burton had a darker and more serious Batman, but there were a lot of elements to his films that make the character unrealistic. Nolan was the first one to approach it from a realistic angel as humanly possible, while still maintaining the key elements of Batman as a character. I think "The Batman" movie series is good, even though they're literally doing the same thing Nolan did by having Batman be grounded and uber realistic as possible. However, they do add in new story elements to make it interesting like Bruce's parents being linked to organized crime before they died, and showing Batman acting more like a detective even if he's not the best at it, which is something other live action films never explored. I just wish more live action Batman movies wouldn't shy away from the fantastical larger than life elements of the character as well because there's a lot of great stories you could tell with Batman if you embraced the fantastical side of his character as well.
I saw this in the theater when it was first released. The anticipation and excitement of the packed audience was off the charts! The best moment by far was when we first saw the Batmobile. The entire audience said, "OOOOoooohhh!!!" It's still my favorite Batmobile of them all.
There is an earlier movie with Adam West from the 70's that is so bad it's good. It had all those KAPOW! effects etc. I recall that at one point they were climbing down the bat ladder from the bat copter to deploy the bat shark repellant. Basically every item had bat added to it.
Still the best Batman and Joker IMHO. The sets in this film are awesome. They're 1920s Chicago gangster with a Gothic twist. Prince always brought the music, but he out did himself on this film
I watched this in the theater in 1989. This is my favorite Batman movie and Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman and Jack Nicholson is my favorite Joker.
It’s a perfect movie. Let’s all thank Prince for his contribution with his music to this movie. He did all his work in a few weeks composing, playing the instruments and singing. He also dated Kim Basinger during this time and produced a song she did.
41:51 i cant help but think that the dark knight scene where Batman was going to run down Heath ledgers joker in the motorcycle was an homage to this scene where Batman misses joker in the batwing in this movie…same for joker falling except in the dark knight, Batman saves him at the last moment
Yes Asia, you are absolutely right. After this movie came out, Batman the animated series came out and it was geared more for teens than kids, but everyone loved it. As soon everyone saw the Batman money machine rolling, Disney wanted a piece so the made Darkwing Duck as part of the Disney Afternoon alongside rescue rangers, tailspin, and duck tails. I watched everything but Batman the animated series and the animated movies are still amazing and fun to watch now even as an adult.
Batman 89 was filmed in England. The "Gotham" city set cost approx £1.5 million to build on the backlot of Pinewood Studios covering almost the entirety of it's 95 acre site
What a Batman day for me. I just received a vintage...and very expensive...Batman comic book this morning that is the first cover of the Batmobile from 1943...and now I get to watch you guys react to my favorite Batman, Michael Keaton.
Very cool to see this making the rounds on reaction channels. This movie was my childhood. And so was the soundtrack. I couldn't get enough of Prince's songs. It's legendary.
1989 was a huge year for summer movies. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (the only movie to outdo Batman in ticket sales that year), Batman, Lethal Weapon 2, Ghostbusters 2, Field of Dreams, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Road House, Dead Poets Society, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Do the Right Thing, Weekend at Bernie's, License to Kill (007 Bond), UHF (starring Weird Al Yankovic), When Harry Met Sally, Parenthood, The Abyss, Uncle Buck, Casualties of War...
36:00 - You're right, in that canonically, the Joker was NOT the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents. This film is the only time that connection has been made. In the comics, they were two very separate events. But I gotta say that the way they set it up in this film, it really does work. And casting the young "Jack Napier" was terrific; Hugo Blick's eyebrows and smile looked just like Nicholson's.
These movies were great!! Please make sure you watch Batman Returns (with Michael Keaton), and Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, which starred Val Kilmer and George respectively. Mayor Borg, in this movie, was supposed to look like our then New York mayor, Mayor Ed Koch… Fantastic job, Sugarplums Asia and BJ!! 😂😊
Ka-BOOM, Ka- CHow! yes, the ol' Adam West batman, my mom put that on for us when we were young cuz we weren't allowed to watch power rangers because it was 'to violent' lol Ya'll always make me smile, much love.
1989, went to a comic store here in Texas for midnight matinee premiere of this movie. Was , and still is in my opinion the best Batman movie. What a time to be alive when real movies were being made.
Great movie .You should see Superman 1978 with Christopher Reeve Rip the one movie that started the all modern superhero genre (If you have not seen it already becouse I seem to remeber you seen it but I don't find it on your channel).
Will always love this movie, its from my childhood even though I prefer Batman Begins, BTW Prince was the Artist on the whole soundtrack, The Batman soundtrack is Prince's official 11th studio album.
Nicholson's Joker in this film is THE single best live-action Joker ever. Others have played the character, but none have gotten the balance between cold-blooded killer and maniacal jokester. Some are too much jokes, not enough death. Some are too much brooding, not enough laughter. The writers wrote the perfect character, the director made all the right choices, and Nicholson lived the part better than anyone. I actually feel badly for anyone who has come after this, because once someone has hit the bullseye so squarely in the center, what else is left to do? If you also hit the center, you'll be accused of copying. If you hit anywhere else just to be different, you've missed the core. There are many ways that this film is not "canon" for the character of the Joker, from the comic books. For one thing, the Joker is not the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents in the comics. But in this film, that connection works. The comics have always left Joker's origins shrouded in mystery; this film gives him a very specific "before and after" from gangster to pure villain: from hired killer with an edge and an ambitious ego, to completely unhinged megalomaniacal maniac. But in this film, it totally works. When he's brooding and sad and angry, there's menace, but he punches the TV with a joke fist on a spring, and he kills a rival with an electrocuting hand buzzer. His killer instincts are seen through with gags and jokes and with real joy in his work. When he's having fun and just joking around, it's with a macabre fascination with death and violence. It is that mixture that makes the Joker the character that he is, and if you lean too far one way or another you miss it. Ledger's villain in The Dark Knight was very well acted, very menacing, a very good foil for that Batman, in a very good film. But he was too brooding. Too depressive, not enough manic. That's why for me he is a very good villain, but not THE Joker. Romero in the 60's TV show ("pow!" "sock!" "blam!") was a clown, but because the show was television, aimed at a daytime audience, he could never be truly deadly, truly menacing. He was fun, but not as deadly as the Joker should be. This 80s film came after the 60s TV show and showed how dark Batman could be, and how deadly Joker could be, at a time when that show was the biggest pop culture reference most people had. We've had much darker and more grounded, serious portrayals of this world since then. But nobody has come close to portraying a Joker as perfectly as Jack Nicholson did.
Long before the movie came out, the announcement that Michael Keaton was cast as Batman created a massive backlash with fans because at the time Keaton only stared in comedies. It was so bad the studio released a teaser trailer as soon as possible to show fans that the film was gonna be serious and not funny.
My dad was a limo driver and got free tickets to New Kids On The Block. I sold my New Kids On The Block tickets to see Batman. My brother thought I was crazy - but I enjoyed myself.
Fun fact went on a tour of Warner Brothers in burbank california and there was a secret section i dint know was on the tour they showed the actual bat mobile and alot from the other batman's and the costumes from batman returns. It's lime I died and had gone to heaven I got to see the OG batmobile in person and batman returns costumes are amazing up close you two would of loved it. Thank you both for all that you do Asia & BJ much love and respect my friends.
The BATMAN movies with Michael Keaton, they are my FAVORITE Batman movies, but I think of them as more from the Comic Books, rather then just the movies. The scenery and the actions are just like in the Comic Books, minus the POW!!!s and WHAM!!!s. To me, that is why these will always stand out and ALWAYS be my favorites. But that is just me. Thanx for sharing this with us. You 2 are awesome.
I really do enjoy the purity of these reactions and the lack of preconceived notions about the movies this couple is watching. One of the best channels of its kind on the Tube.
A friend of mine works in the entertainment business. He got me a backlot studio VIP pass to Warner Bros and I got to see this Batmobile up close. Love this Batmobile ❤
Michael Keaton started the line "I'm Batman!" but Kevin Conroy started the line "I am Vengeance, I am the Night, I AM BATMAN!" who's Batman line is better? 🤔
@@TreyM1609the genius of jack Nicholsons joker over heath ledgers is- as well as being a psycho cold blooded killer, he somehow managed to blend in a terrific sense of humour which had some genuinely l.o.l moments, very difficult to pull off, the two together. And something heath ledgers character never had. Although i loved both jokers.
This is THE definitive Batman movie with the best Joker. Asia since you were wondering what Darkwing Duck says , it’s “ I am the terror that flaps in the night.” So in the comics, it’s never stated exactly who it was that killed the Waynes leaving Bruce an orphan. That Joker gets the credit for that in the movie is only for the movie. As for the Joker himself, the bath in the “ radioactive ooze” as BJ called it, does in fact permanent changed his skin and hair as well as mess up his mind. The unique smile is a combination of the bullets and the shattered glass hitting Jack in the face combined with the doctor’s crude efforts. The final result of seeing this snaps Jack into becoming the Joker.
I was ten when my mom took us to see this in the theater. For kids my age, who grew up watching the old Adam West Batman reruns, this was Batman reborn, and Michael Keaton was the only one who could have pulled off both Batman and Bruce Wayne. This movie changed everything we knew about Batman. This is the film that got me reading comic books, because I just had to know everything that I had missed. And my mom was like Asia's, she wanted to see this film solely because of Billy Dee Williams.

So glad you guys decided to watch Batman. I hope you continue on to Batman Returns; I think you’ll both like it a little bit more now that you have the dark campy comedy layout of Gotham and the characters. You should have seen his face when he saw the motorized Batmobile we got him one year; He drove it around the neighborhood with grin from ear to ear. A lot of time, love and money was spent to bring joy to our kids over the years, but they’ve made some of the best memories I still hold onto. Anywho… thanks for jumpin’ in and for the nostalgia this movie evoked. Loved watching with ya.

if burton had done a 3rd batman movie Billy Dee Williams and Robin Williams would have been the villains as Two-face and riddler respectively. (Robin Williams was a finalist to play Joker.)
Another excellent reaction. Especially to my generations Batman. An amazing film that began all the "dark superhero" movies. And to settle the debate..... Jack Nicholson played the absolute best "original" Joker of the comics. Heath Ledger played the absolute best "Dark Knight" Joker in that comic series. Jack will always be the Joker I like the most. He is just fantastic in it.

Also th gun Joker had is a customized Smith&Wesson model15-3 with a telescopic 21 inch barrel. The trick gun could fire powerful explosive bullets or function as a harmless Bang! flag pistol.
9:17 Porkins! ...with a dubbed voice. 18:14 Those bizarre surgical tools were props made for Steve Martin in The Little Shop of Horrors (1986) I heard that the reason why Prince was involved in this film is because Jack Nicholson was a huge fan.
"Have you ever danced with the Devil under the pale moon light?"😈
Kim was cast at the last minute because Sean Young got injured in a horse-riding accident, whilst filming.
Great score by Danny Elfman, too. One of his best and most recognizable.
90% Comic book accurate. Also a snazzy dresser.
@penoyer79 Robin Williams as the riddler woulda been incredible.
This comment actually makes me wonder if the writer-director who created Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise took some inspiration from this film, because art does abominable things and laughs about it.
No Disrespect to Heath Ledger but Jack Nicholson is Comic Book Accurate so that's his will always be my favorite Joker
I was out by the big round hottub collecting trash and glasses when someone behind me said, "hey sport, you got a light?"
I turned around and he was standing there holding a doob. He was super cool and he seemed genuinely impressed when I wasn't talking about Batman, but Chinatown and one flew over the cukoos nest. We smoked and talked for about 20 minutes.
Asia I didn't fall asleep to Tarzan when I was five years old and that was the first movie I remember seeing in theaters
Wow....epic story to have!
Wow, that is so frikin cool. Many of these stars are just regular people, with awesome talent. But they don't carry themselves as anything special.
The first song Prince learned how to play on the piano was the 1966 Batman theme!
And the full Prince Batman music video for the movie promo was unlike any we’d seen before at the time!!👏🏾
And Batman returns is a must watch! My favourite of the two
Yep. It got darker, the story was deeper and having two villains was brilliant.
It also got sillier, and there were 3 villains, which is too many. @@SurvivorBri
_For real?_
@@Terp311 Yep, I still have the card.
Adding to the minority here, Jack Nicholson is my favorite Joker. Born in 86 and grew up with this movie, Still my favorite.
…that’s not a minority. Between this and the dark knight, both are usually referred to
@@incognito7039He was my first cinematic Joker before the Dark Knight and 2019
@@awesomness36 we live in a day that the Dark Knight is regarded as one of the best movies, not just Batman or comic book movies. Because of that we're in the minority. Unfortunately.
My personal favorite Batman movie. Nothing holds a candle to this one.
Except maybe Dark Knight
I think the Nolan flics did a lot right, but the original captured that comic book, early industrial era America feel. On the other hand, Batman is supposed to have a no killing rule but Burtons Batman greases everybody. I guess this Batman is my favorite because the Batman comics of the 80s had that 1920s style that Burton integrated into his movie. And Nicholson scared the hell out of 9 year old me in the theaters, and I wasnt the only one. Out of all the Jokers, this one is the most intimidating.
@@ImWithTeamTrinityBatman didn’t kill anyone. The ground has a few causalities to its name though.
@@merchillio Yes, gravity has no pity. And also, he hates it when bad guys run in front of his batwings autocannon rounds.

The most recent film finally overtook Burton's to me for atmosphere. It literally felt how the comics did when reading them.
Y'all should check out the original "Superman" from the 70s with Christopher Reeve... it's kind of geared more towards kids but the ladies used to have major crushes on Christopher Reeve
Christopher Reeves is the goat of Supermen.
The batmobile and the batwing. Batman has something for everything
Don't forget the Batski.
@@fynnthefox9078 in returns? lol how can one forget it. It dodges very well
Jack had a blast playing this role
Unintentionally on Batman's part? This Batman DOES kill sometimes.
Yes. But, he was clearly trying to pull the Joker up when he lost his grip.
XD
Either way, I think Batman is an interesting character solely for that reason alone due to how versatile he is as a character.
*One of my favorite Comic Books movies with the Prince soundtracc too!*

To me, Danny elfmans theme is still the definitive batman theme
These movies were great!! Please make sure you watch Batman Returns (with Michael Keaton), and Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, which starred Val Kilmer and George respectively. Saw at the theater in New Orleans! The hype leading up to this movie hitting theaters was unbelievable, you had to be there, thanks yall!
Funny enough, I feel like the only thing comparable to it was when 'The Dark Knight' came along....

I’m That Mom who was constantly scouting out stores for Batman action figures, accessories, comics, clothing, bedding, posters, lunch boxes, costumes, boots, utility belts, decorations, etc for Christmases and Birthdays for our son.
I know people will hate me for this but Michael Keaton is my favorite Batman including the sequel, Adam West being my second, OH!! You've got to watch the Batman movie with Adam West! 💝💝
Its hard to put into words how epic this movie was when it released. I snuck into the theater to see it 8 times as a kid, there had been nothing like it
The guy who hands Knox the drawing at 10:24 is Bob Kane, the creator of Batman.
Sorry that's not correct. Bob the Cartoonist was played by actor Denis Lill.
HELL YES .this is my all time favorite movie. My second favorite movie of all time is the sequel Batman Returns. Please please watch the sequel it's just as good. Jack Nicholson said playing the joker is one of his favorite characters because there is so many layers to him. Michael Keaton will always be the best batman and jack Nicholson as the joker is the best.
Batman AND the two coolest reactors on yt?!?!? What a great day this turned out to be!
👏👏👏💯💯💯 Great reaction guys and seeing BJ excited and explaining to Asia is how I get when talking about comics. Batman has like 3 or 4 different story comics. Hopefully Batman Returns is soon coming. Have a great day guys. 🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️💯💯💯
I still wish we got Billy Dee Williams as Two Face
It's not the same but he is two face in Lego Batman
We might have if WB didn't fumble hard and axe Tim Burton.
We have that Batman '89 comic at least.
if burton had done a 3rd batman movie Billy Dee Williams and Robin Williams would have been the villains as Two-face and riddler respectively. (Robin Williams was a finalist to play Joker.)
She looked at him that way because most people flinch/dive for cover when rounds sent down range. Cheers y'all!
“It’s about the time…….to watch Batman fight crime” there ya go😂
Hi Ms. Asia and Mr. BJ, I'm so happy you finally got to see Original Batman Movie Michael Keaton. I really love these original Batman Movie I can't wait for Batman Returns Batman Forever Batman & Robin. You gonna love those movies. I'm growing up watching Batman Movies with My Big Brother. 😊😍❤️
16:27 "I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the winged scourge that pecks at your nightmares! I am Darkwing Duck!"😁 He said something different every time but that's the one I remember most. Also th gun Joker had is a customized Smith&Wesson model15-3 with a telescopic 21 inch barrel. The trick gun could fire powerful explosive bullets or function as a harmless Bang! flag pistol.
9:17 Porkins! ...with a dubbed voice.
18:14 Those bizarre surgical tools were props made for Steve Martin in The Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
I heard that the reason why Prince was involved in this film is because Jack Nicholson was a huge fan. He kept asking and asking for Prince to do the soundtrack, and they relented.
Unfortunately, Billy Dee Williams will be recast with Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever.
If you want more Prince, watch the music video to BatDance.
Love this movie and the sequel with Catwoman and the penguin.
