It also really helps when the band is playing live and they're playing songs that on older albums had rhythm guitar plus twin guitar harmonies. Now they can actually perform that a little closer to the album and not have to worry about the rhythm guitars dropping out during certain parts.

Hi Melissa, greetings from the Netherlands. I really enjoy watching your reactions. I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Being a singer, you should definitely listen to Nightwish! They are a band from Finland and they’re top notch in the symphonic metal genre. Their Dutch singer, Floor Jansen has one of the best female voices in metal today. She's a master at conveying emotion through a song and her stage presence is unmistakable. Nightwish is very diverse, none of their songs are alike. There are epic and melodic songs, like the one I’m recommending now, but they can also go really heavy on you and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed and arranged. The lyrics are very powerful and poetic, which leads to great storytelling. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Ghost Love Score’ a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. You might be surprised. ruclips.net/video/47e_961OQWE/видео.html

3:52 I’ve seen them 8 times (so far), this song is a staple of their show for this very reason, and I still get chills when the opening melody starts and we all start singing along.
14:54 Bruce never had any formal training, he learned “on the job” singing in small bands through high school and the local pub scenes. The only formal coaching he had was in 2015 during rehabilitation after treatment for throat cancer. He has a very theatrical approach, you notice the big movement and over exaggerated stances, he performs to the whole crowd, even those at the very back and up in the rafters, not just vocally but physically too. He is extraordinarily fit, he’s a competitive fencer with many trophies and medals, he was even asked to represent GB in the Olympics in either 84 or 88, but he declined the opportunity due to band commitments. He’s also a pilot, and they have to be pretty fit too.
The whole band are very fit, the bassist and founding member Steve Harris plays football… before he started playing bass he was a West Ham academy player. He even put together a football team comprised of members of the band and road crew, they often play against local teams while on tour. What’s a day off? 😂
The energy they have onstage even in their 60s puts people half their age to shame, and even now Bruce runs a marathon while performing. I think he said he loses 2 to 3 litres in sweat in a single night.

As someone who has watched Maiden quite a number of times live, the crowd may look squished and it might look to the outside like it's pretty chaotic, but metal heads are some of the most compassionate and kind people in music.
My knee literally gave way from underneath me twice at one gig (Nottingham, 2017). First time I just wobbled and found my balance, but the second time I literally ended up on the floor. As soon as it happened, everyone stepped back to give me room, and someone I didn't even know was helping me back up with their arm around my shoulders.

With that, he has equally long vocal cords which make him a unique listen. The band's musical style is often considered gothic metal, but there's also a subcurrent of dark humor underneath most of their music. "Love You to Death" is the default fan suggestion, but "Pyretta Blaze" is certainly another many fans would nod their heads to for a suggestion, if you'd like to travel off the beaten path.

I’m not heavily into Iron Maiden and don’t have comprehensive knowledge of their catalogue. But I know that Bruce is one hell of a metal singer. And I love the studio version of their song “The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg”. Because Bruce puts that semi-operatic effect on his vocal lines and it sounds awesome. Plus there’s a fantastic held note to top the whole thing off.

Next to Def Leppard and Judas Priest... Iron Maiden is one of the most successful British heavy metal/ hard rock bands... Their global audience is astonishing - from Australia to South America... from Asia to North America... The video u saw on MTV by Iron Maiden was 'Can I play with madness?" from 1988, their 7th album "Seventh son of a seventh son". It was actor Graham Chapman's last TV appearance before his death from cancer in 1989, and the band did not appear in the video (except in footage).
Despite Bruce Dickinson (vocals) being their most prolific and current singer, Iron Maiden has recorded w/ 3 singers in total in the career...
Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by Steve Harris (bass) in London, UK... who began writing his own songs and wanted a band that would play them in clubs and bars. Early Iron Maiden was Harris and his mates jamming together... but he wanted a professional band, so members kept coming and going. Dave Murray (guitar) was introduced to Maiden in 1976 and he became a permanent member in 1977... That year, Paul Di'Anno (vocals) also joined and brought his bluesy, punk rock-style voice to the band... Iron Maiden built a following by playing shows in the UK for years, until they were finally signed in 1979, as Clive Burr (drums) and Dennis Stratton (2nd guitar) were added to the line-up.
Their manager Rod Smallwood also felt that the band needed a 'personality' to make them more prolific, and so artist Derek Riggs contributed a painting a of skeletal ghoul w/ hollow eyes that became Iron Maiden's mascot 'Eddie the head' and appeared on every Iron Maiden album cover and t-shirt since.
Iron Maiden's first album in 1980 charted at #4 in the UK... the band had a punk rock edge to their sound, as well as progressive elements w/ time changes and dueling guitars... Adrian Smith (guitar) replaced Stratton for the 2nd album 'Killers' in 1981... Iron Maiden toured N. America and Japan for the first time, but the band's rigorous touring schedule burnt out singer Paul Di'Anno on the road, so he parted ways w/ Maiden.
Samson singer Bruce Dickinson had seen Iron Maiden perform w/ Paul Di'Anno, and he jumped at the chance in '81 when Di'Anno was out of Maiden... His first Maiden album 'The number of the beast' charted at #1 in the UK and sold platinum (1 million copies) in the USA... Nicko McBrain (drums) replaced Clive Burr in 1983 and Iron Maiden became an arena-headlining sensation in the 80's... releasing major albums like 'Piece of mind' (1983)... 'Powerslave' (1984)... 'Somewhere in time' (1986) and 'Seventh son of a seventh son' (1988)... But by 1989, guitarist Adrian Smith left the band, exhausted by the band's workload and creative conflicts.
Janick Gers (guitar) joined Maiden in 1990 and 2 more albums were released - 'No prayer for the dying' (1990) and 'Fear of the dark' (1992)... But in 1993, Bruce Dickinson shocked Maiden fans by announcing that he was leaving the band for a solo career.
Despite the setbacks and the 90's becoming hostile to heavy metal from the 80's... Iron Maiden searched extensively for a new singer and hired Blaze Bayley (vocals) from UK rockers Wolfsbane for the album 'The X Factor' in 1995... However, the 'new' Iron Maiden was sonically darker and more sinister, a product of Bayley's gruff vocal delivery... Maiden was not selling as many records and were reduced to playing small venues on tour... They tried again w/ the 'Virtual XI' album in 1988, but the Iron Maiden w/ Bayley on vocals was not selling, and he had difficulty singing Maiden classics in concert... It was likely a business decision to fire Blaze Bayley in early 1999.
Meanwhile, neither Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith were selling records or concert tickets in the 90's, so they started working together again... In 1999, both Dickinson and Smith were offered to reunite w/ Maiden for a tour... It brought back some fanfare and the album 'Brave new world' was a success in 2000. Maiden were officially a 3 guitar band.
Rather than go back w/ older records, Maiden decided to forge ahead... they wrote new songs that were longer and more intricate than their early records. They couldn't satisfy all the older fans, but they were always bringing in new people to their fanbase over the years... More albums emerged w/ longer, epic songs - 'Dance of death' (2003)... 'A matter of life and death' (2006)... 'The final fontier' (2010) and 'The Book of souls' (2015)... Bruce Dickinson went to get therapy for cancer around 2015, so Maiden did not tour until 2016, when he was given the OK by doctors. Their latest album ''Senjutsu" came out in 2021.

Every Iron Maiden concert is functionally a 20,000+ person sing-along, lol. You won't find more devoted fans anywhere. And Bruce has insane energy and presence on stage, beyond his vocals or music, he just seems to fill any room he's in with that classic heavy-metal energy. I don't even know how to describe it. Though I honestly prefer some of his solo stuff from the 90's. Specifically "Skunkworks' and "The Chemical Wedding". He broke out of the Iron Maiden mold for a while there.

Story from a Maiden show I attended in 2012ish: I was in the second seated row (behind the SRO in front of us) with my 300+lb cousin Johnny who had gotten out of jail just a few months earlier. We were in the encore when I saw out of the corner of my eye that Johnny had picked up and thrown someone from the row behind us. Since we were kids, this guy was given to causing trouble, so I just quickly finished my beer and assumed we were about to be escorted from the venue. I was thankful he at least waited until the end of the show to start shit this time. But it turned out we were fine. The reason he chucked the guy was that the guy had decided to try to pee in a beer can and missed, spraying the backs of the legs in our row with pee. I wore jeans and didn't notice. But my cousin had on shorts, and so did the teen kid next to him who was at the show with his dad. Johnny said he was more offended on behalf of the kid than himself, and threw the guy out of anger that he had fucked up this kid's first ever Maiden concert. I contest that the kid probably had a better show because of the pee and my cousin's subsequent violence. I bet he's still telling that story to this day. Anyway: we got to stay until the end of the show, and the rogue pisser got escorted from the venue.
