    "Manish Boy" was a message from Mayer to the world that he is now grown up and tested everything so he is ready to settle at being what he really is. A blues man! (I hope!)

    John Mayer is a new artist, that's really famous and it's playing CLASSIC BLUES, for god's sake, the dude is keeping the roots of music alive ! I don't like this version so much, but I think that we have to be grateful to have some artist playing this kind of music on the mainstream scene...(although I don't like this cover, John's stuff is usually awesome)

    • @caspervanhelvoirt
      @caspervanhelvoirt 9 лет назад +4

      you nailed it! Although I personally think this cover is great! The thing with John's covers is he doesn't play the original version, he makes a version of himself, you know? Atleast, that's my view ^^

    • @Barbeta13
      @Barbeta13 9 лет назад +1

      casper van helvoirt for sure, usually i love his renditions, but in my opinion this cover of his was to similar to the original one (check Hendrix's cover of mannish boy, I find it mind blowing)

    A cover is a cover. Not one person will play or produce a note the same way another does. Everyone has their own way of doing it.. It makes no sense to argue that Mayer did not sound "Muddy" or bluesy enough for their liking.

      Chris Vo Not quite. 'Battle studies was' fake as hell. Born and raised is where he really stopped giving a fuck about what the public thought of his music.
      Continuum was great though.

      @caspervanhelvoirt 9 лет назад +1

    • @juancpgo
      @juancpgo 9 лет назад

      Ryan Wennekes So you think the artist shouldn't give a fuck about what the public thinks? Maybe you're right, I just wanna know your reason for saying so.

    • @caspervanhelvoirt
      @caspervanhelvoirt 9 лет назад +2

      Juan Gonzalez I kinda do believe the same. But to some extends. Like Ryan said: In Born and Raised he just put his own thoughts, his own love and his own heart into the music, not caring about what the public was expecting from him! But take note: Continuum was a mix of both: Caring what the public wants and adjusting his own vision and heart a bit so it is a mix of the public's expectancy and his own feeling and love, and I mean, Continuum is some kind of album you feel me ;)

    anyone who thinks aaron sterling fits john mayers band more than steve jordan is simply wrong!

    • @joshscus
      @joshscus Год назад

      Obviously there is only one Steve Jordan, the king of in the pocket groove. But since Mayer has so many different facets of his music, I think Aaron Sterling is the best fit to play MAYER’s overall catalog as a whole. With that said, no, I do not like how Mayer and the band played Vultures from summer 2010 with Keith Carlock through 2013 and 2014 with Aaron Sterling. BUT you have to check out the 2019 performances of Vultures, especially from the MSG and LA Forum shows where he played Continuum start to finish. Finally they played it at the original tempo, Aaron has “that” essential detuned fat snare drum, and he lays back and plays it with a deep pocket like it’s supposed to be played. Check THAT out! I think you’ll change your mind
