Tebow's problem wasn't with talent or leadership. His teammates loved him and he more than proved he was talented. The problem was that he was so different than the archetypal QB of that era that nobody knew how to use him. Had he been paired up with a Bruce Arians or Andy Reid, he would have had a much longer career. I'm not saying he would have been a Pat Mahomes, but he would have definitely seen a fair bit of success.
@Skunk Ape Completing less than 50% of one's passes is a talent problem. Doesn't mean better coaching couldn't have helped him some, but there was more to it than just "nobody knew how to use him". Tebow struggled as a passer way beyond any coaching problems.
As a lifelong Steelers fan I’m still a fan of excellent talent & coaching in the entire NFL. Was an Elway fan since his first start, which was against the Steelers in 1983 just like I’m a fan today of Mahomes & Bengals QB Burrow. DT made our best look like fools on that play & I admired him for it. His death was sad & shocking. My Steelers won’t be contending for anything for while but they’ve acted arrogantly at times over the last decade so they had it coming. Besides it’s good for the NFL when other teams, like the Bengals & Bills work their way to excellence & reward loyal fans with great seasons & hopefully Lombardi trophies. Good luck this season. IMHO Wilson has plenty left in the tank.
Yessir we getting old! Always took so much shit for being a broncos fan, despite growing up in salt lake when they were our closest team. Living in Kansas is even worse haha
Yea it goes faster as you go older so hold on tight. There’s a great NFL films video called “The Book of Tebow” where other great players w/some of his qualities discussed Tebow. I wish that Tebow had been willing to fix his mechanics so that he could’ve played for over a decade because he was fun to watch.
@@r.williamcomm7693 no doubt it was a blast to watch. Not that Tebow was the only example of a great human being in the nfl. He sure got a huge spotlight though. I’m learning that the years don’t take as long as they used to…
@@guywholikescheese97 I still remember John Elway having the worst luck in his first three Super Bowls. The first was in his 4th year after he showed the world the full range of his talent in “the Drive” vs the Cleveland Browns. My college roommate was a Browns fan & died a thousand deaths as Elway ran, passed & impressed everyone. Then at the Super Bowl he faced the 1986 Giants with Lawrence Taylor, a rare yeR where a defensive player was league MVP. Brutal, nasty defense but Elway flashed greatness. Dan Reeves coached like his mentor Tom Landry. Didn’t really change anything for the Super Bowl. The Giants were just so good. Then the 1987 Redskins were another complete team with Joe Gibbs doing things like using a barely used RB to gash the Broncos defense. Finally the 1989 49ers were like a super team. They wanted to win that 4th Super Bowl without Bill Walsh who retired the year before. That offense was a juggernaut with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, John Taylor & Roger Craig at RB should be in the Hall of Fame. They destroyed the Broncos with so many touchdowns. All three defenses focused on getting to Elway & Dan Reeves coaching didn’t seem to adjust. Poor Elway finally got 2 rings his last 2 years by Head Coach Mike as Shanahan running the same type of offense that his son Kyle runs as 49ers head coach & doesn’t require a lot from the QB. Knowing all that, imagine Elway sitting in the GM suite watching Tebow complete less than 10 passes & still beating the Steelers who went to the Super Bowl the previous season!! He was thinking of all he went through & how great he had to play to win playoff games & there’s Tebow with crazy throwing mechanics & unable to complete most passes playing so badly that the Steelers dared Tebow to beat them with his arm. And God smiled while Tebow did his crazy wind up motion & horrible footwork where he never set his feet & tossed a perfect strike to win the game. Elway was sick to his stomach. lol 😂. Tebow is truly a great human being but man, if he had been willing to make the changes in mechanics & footwork I believe that he would still be a starting QB today. 😀

This is the first video to ever truly capture what a fun year this was to watch as a Bronco fan. I've never watched a 23 minute video on RUclips from start to finish...but this one could have been 3 times longer and I'd have watched.
I remember that year quite well as a broncos fan. The emotions were WILD. I remember sitting in an army motor pool listening to the games on the radio saying “we are going to lose” every fucking weekend. Only to somehow pull it out. For the playoff game I was at a huge bar downtown and the place erupted like nothing I’ve ever seen (including winning the Super Bowl a few years later) with people throwing food and beers in the air on that pass to DT88 (rip). I just sat there bewildered. Jaw on the floor. It was literally a magical season. Thanks to Timmy Tebow.
Balls deep episodes are the most fun you can have on RUclips! This one was so good it almost (ALLLLMOST) made me break out my Tebow jersey to wear around in public and feel good about my team again. Thanks, as always, for the genuinely good content Perna!
Tebowmania!!! It was always funny how he got all the media attention and then in the same breath NFL analysts would say he's not a long term quarterback.
I think that's because he was an enigma. He was obviously not a good thrower of the football, but somehow found a way to win week after week and then having a walk off touchdown pass in a playoff game? Shit was crazy. He was talked about so much for that reason. Somehow the worst QB in the league was having the most success.
but he wasn't. As Perna stated, that 2011 season was a TON of luck. Lots of things broke the Broncos way and Tebow n the broncos were VERY lucky to not only be on the receiving end but to also be in a division that was won by an 8-8 team. And as Perna stated, that kind of play just isn't sustainable. Eventually, you have to stop relying on luck (like opposing RBs running out of bounds for no reason and stopping the clock... Yes Marion Barber, I'm looking at you) to be successful. IMO, Tebow is VERY lucky that his career stopped there. Cause had he been given the reins to another team, its likely his flaws come through and he goes from "A qb who won a playoff game but was never given a chance" to "Yea, he won a playoff game. But then he did absolutely nothing after that and became an afterthought".
But that's the problem. We believe that luck was somehow sustainable for Tebow. Sometimes a teams energy is a psychological victory. Tebow seemed to have that energy. Should have played him next year and the go 9-7 or better. His energy was never ending. Many guys have that energy. Prob 8 guys on the field at all times at have energy, intensity , and stamina like they've rarely ever seen. But Tebow was contagious. It was an intangible most don't have.
@@FlipsyFiona what he did wasn't "luck" you don't get lucky that many times, luck is very random not consistent, Tebow was consistent with heart & determination
2011 was awesome. I'm a 49ers fan, so that season was very special (and heartbreaking for me as well). When I wasn't watching the Niners, I was glued to Tebowmania haha.
"Tebow is Elway without any of the arm talent." Tebow's entire career can be summed up in that one statement - perfect. I was a Tebow fan; that dude could not throw the football, but he found a way to win the game. I'll take a game winner over a ball thrower. My Broncos have had ball throwers on the field since 2016 and we can't win shit. Thanks DT.
Tebow was an excellent deep ball thrower, but had UGLY short passes. The one where he overthrows Knowshawn Moreno that is 4 yards ahead of him by more than 1 yard was the worst, but TT lead the league in passes over 20 yards, and TT/DT were the leading receiver/QB pair in December 2011 and January 2012. I don't think John Fox was a good HC for Tebow's development. He looked better under Studesville!
Great episode man. I’m under no illusions that Tebow might it have been great if he had stayed as a starter, whether with the Broncos or another team but I still wish he could have gotten a full offseason/support as a starter to see what he could do with that. It feels like his status was just so big that teams didn’t even want him as a back up. Everyone said Tebow looked far better with the Eagles and should have made the roster at least but was released.
88 from Georgia Tech was a true gem, I can’t emphasize enough how much of a class act that kid was. We lost a remarkable human being two Decembers ago.
I lived in northern Florida during Tim Tebow’s college years. It was insane just how much people loved him and how good he was. I know people give him grief about his play style and religion and whatever else, but I have a soft spot for the guy and I like seeing him succeed. Also, as far as sports role models go, you could do a hell of a lot worse than following Tebow’s example in life.
I loved the fact that it seemed like he could literally will the team to win despite his issues with throwing (lifted too many weights and got too buff to have any snap on his throws imo). It was magical in a way, like a children's story where if you truly believe in something you can make anything happen..mind over matter type thing.
I live in the area too. The games were insane and so much fun to watch. Incredible competitor. Go Gators! Also, the media did mock him all the time because of the religion stuff. He was also mocked relentlessly because he was a virgin. Glad he is still working and chasing his dreams. I hope one day he can work with the Florida Gators in some capacity.
@DaneOrschlovsky I was only 18 when Tebow went to the NFL; I hadn't even heard names like Couch until after. JaMarcus Russell HAD been a warning sign, but I think everyone can agree that was more of an effort issue than actual talent. And remember that ultimately, hindsight is 20/20. Who thought a rando with only two years at Cal and a Holiday Bowl loss would become one of the best Quarterbacks of our generation?
@@X525Crossfire solid points I didn't consider before commenting. Though I'm not too much older than you, I still remember there being amazing QBs from Nebraska, Ohio State, Miami, Florida (Spurrier years) FSU, etc, who were fantastic in their systems but were propped up by spectacular surrounding talent and coaching.
Seahawks fan here, the play with Tebow beating the Steelers in OT was second only to Beastquake for how excited I got for a single NFL play. We started jumping up and down and freaked out my 1 year old (at the time) nephew
I was living in Aurora, Co in 2011. When the 4th quarter started, the entire city stopped and watched. Everything was upside down! We won games we should've lost and we lost games we should have won. It was a hell of a ride. In spite of what the sports media establishment told you a LOT of people were sad to see Tebow get traded and Peyton Manning was brought in at QB. It was believed that Gaaawd himself was angry. ESPECIALLY, how we got eviscerated in the SUPER BOWL! But, what is past is prologue and have no fear Russell Wilson (QB who destroyed us in that Super Bowl) and we are living 2011 all over again!
As a Raider fan and a fan of yours. Tebow was absolutely incredible to see in action. I won't be a bronco fan but your videos are always great to watch.
The thing is, it's not Tebows fault that everybody started making such a big deal about him. To this day he still seems to be one of the most genuine professional athletes ever.
Outstanding episode! As a Broncos fan, I was constantly telling people that year that Tebow was, in fact, a terrible QB. It was great fun watching those comeback wins but it was also fucking agonizing watching Tebow try and throw a football with any kind of consistent accuracy. All of that being stated, that playoff win against the Steelers was maybe the most fun I ever had watching a Broncos game. Especially because I was watching it with two Steelers fans who were both in a state of shock after the winning play. Ah, the pure joy of it!
The win streak was ridiculous. Every game it seemed like they'd be down two scores with five minutes left and then he would just take over. And like the video said, some other weird plays and special teams success would also happen to help make the comebacks possible.
I remember some of the games Tebow won that year in the fourth quarter after looking like a wet noodle for three quarters plus was so insane it looked like a WWE match. The Broncos D was the real hero that season.
I was a freshman in college when we were all sitting around watching that playoff game. As soon as DT caught that ball, our whole dorm building was screaming our heads off. None of us were even Broncos fans, but we were rooting for them
Thanks Brandon! This was one wild season! I loved Tebow, but when Manning became available I was over him immediately lol but it was a fun season! Awesome video.
Great season - it was the most fun along with 2005. 1997, 1998 and 2015 were better though, but I would have loved us to bring Tebow back with Kubes in 2016!
It is really a bit weird he never got a true second chance. Usually its almost guaranteed a first round QB will have someone take a chance on them even if they don't work out on their first team.
@@extragoogleaccount6061 agreed especially with the titanic upside, I mean it made sense to get Peyton, but dealing away the guy who could have taken over after him so quickly was kinda dumb. All they really had to do was put in the time. But alas we will never know if Tebow would’ve put it together.
Thanks Perna, that was truly a magical season. If they weren't messing with Tebow's throwing motion and just let him be I think he would have been fine. It was sad to see him ousted for Manning, especially because Manning really struggled, and Tebow never had another chance. Good nostalgia trip, he had all of us believing there was a way, and you nailed it, Satan came in and shit on everything. Good jokes too, I can't really remember them at this point, but I laughed pretty hard.
Thanks for getting more of these videos in, Brandon! They make your channel so much better. Can you try to get out another season recap soon? Maybe put up a poll to see which one people want to see? I’m interested to see which ones you have in mind.
I remember listening to a Chicago sports radio station during that Jets comeback. The host was doing a monologue about Tebow that could only be described as a guy trying to make sense of incontrovertible evidence that leprechauns, unicorns, and ghosts are all real, intercut with real time updates like "and the Broncos are now in Jets territory, and we all know what's gonna happen". It had the feeling of an early episode of Welcome to Night Vale.
Tebow was given the choice between going to Jacksonville or the JETS. At times I wonder how his career would’ve gone had he chosen Jacksonville over NY.
As a Christian in Denver, I'm biased towards him. But here's why I think he got a raw deal: 1) Drafted too early, by a bad coach. This put extra pressure on him right away. 2) Tebow is unique, you need an offense built around him. 3) Wrong era. Today, he would be seen as, at worst, a Taysom Hill type guy. 4) I think he still could have had a role after Denver but he was always seen as a "distraction." Why was he a distraction? I don't really know, he obviously wasn't an off the field problem. I guess because his fans wanted him to play but, ok, and? Who cares. Anyway, Tebow obviously had issues as a passer, but he was a winner, at least in clutch time. That year they beat the Steelers was wildly entertaining.
I never had high hopes for Tebow but I watched that streak and those playoffs and it was magical. Tebow may have never had an NFL skill set but more than any player I've ever seen he had heart.
I managed an Italian joint adjacent to a bar that season. I would walk over after work on Sundays and catch the 4 o'clock games. I got off that fateful night just in time to see the throw that ended the Steelers. That was amazing.
I live 30 minutes from Gainesville FL(gator country). Most fun we ever had as Gator fans rooting for Tebow. Proud of the guy. He was as competitive and driven as Michael Jordan. Can't blame Denver for going after Manning. Just wish they would have kept Tebow and let him learn under Manning for a couple seasons.
The great thing I can say is that I got to meet him during an event for handicapable children when he was playing minor league baseball in Binghampton, NY. He was such a great kid that was so great with all of the kids there. Sadly as a Hurricanes fan I couldn’t get his autograph and he understood without me telling him why. All I said was that I couldn’t take one from him and he understood. He was wonderful though.

@@ShadowBox112he’s not lying. I didn’t like him because he was annoying with his religion.
The nostalgia in this video is fantastic
That was hilarous. One of the best video I watched on RUclips.
I watched every game of that season. I cannot describe how wild it was to actually see live.
Ah, Tebow...the QB who enlightened me to the idea that college success doesn't necessarily translate to the pro game.
The countless Heisman winning QBs to completely bomb in the NFL prior to Tebow didn't clue you in?
Fr
For me it was Ken Dorsey at Miami.
The shock and awe of that season was epic.
I'm never gonna be a Broncos fan, but man did Tebow get me hyped.
Good job man! Even as a steelers fan I can appreciate the work you put in to entertain us. Every steelers fan remembers that fricking td.
Remember, yes.not fondly tho
Another good video by ponderous penis Perna.
Thanks for the shoutout my guy! Great vid. What a time to be a Broncos fan, only until FYTB crushed it all.
Great video Brandon, perfect watch on a Sunday morning when I dying for some football, thanks man.
This video brought back so many memories. I started watching every Broncos game in 2006. All I gotta say is Broncos Country - What a wild ride
This was such a fun time in the NFL, I was all in. that theory of Tebow inserted in the redzone would have been nuts. 20 tds for the season lol
Broncos fan here and that was one of the best years. They kept you on your feet and it was exciting.
As a Raider fan and a fan of yours. Tebow was absolutely incredible to see in action. I won't be a bronco fan but your videos are always great to watch.
Dude this was awesome, I'd love to see more of these for other bronco legends
The thing is, it's not Tebows fault that everybody started making such a big deal about him. To this day he still seems to be one of the most genuine professional athletes ever.
I’m gonna wait to watch this later tonight i been a fan since 98 and that was hands down the most exciting season I ever took part in
Can you do a Karl Mecklenburg & Randy Gradishar!!! They are extremely underrated and it's a great story and time.... They should be in the HoF
Brendan. That was EXCELLENT! Keep doing more of these . SERIOUSLY funny! Love from Australia
It was a fun year for both Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin were lightning in the sports world.
"God's post-season" had me rolling
Love the Balls Deep Series. The name alone should warrant an Emmy.
Living in western PA and seeing the Steelers get Tebowed in OT in the playoffs was just fantastic.
Demaryius Thomas was an absolute legend! He made Tebow look good with a lot of really good catches/YAC.
Hot damn, this is nuts. I wasn't watching football at the time of Tebowmania, so it's really cool to get a feel for how his season went.
None of us were even Broncos fans, but we were rooting for them
Ah yes “Tebow Time”. One of the most sufferable times to live in Denver. Not gonna lie, I had a great laugh during and after the patriots game
Thanks Brandon! This was one wild season! I loved Tebow, but when Manning became available I was over him immediately lol but it was a fun season! Awesome video.
It was a wild and fun season only to be followed up by the incredible Peyton Manning era. 2011 - 2015 was a fun 5 season run for us Broncos fans
Quality content brother, great video
My favorite Broncos season by far, I know 2015 ended with a Super Bowl victory, but 2011 was such a unbelievable and exciting year to watch.
Great season - it was the most fun along with 2005.
1997, 1998 and 2015 were better though, but I would have loved us to bring Tebow back with Kubes in 2016!
This was the season I became a broncos fan, I was 9 years old watching teebow magic
As a proud Gators fan, I really wish he would’ve been given another chance to develop and be the incredible player he was that year.😢
It is really a bit weird he never got a true second chance.
“God’s postseason” 😂
LOL!.....That clip of John Elway saying "Thank you to John Elway...". You got to use that more often.
tim tebow has a better playoff passer rating than tom brady
Tim Tebow would’ve went 10-0 in the Super Bowl
“Naturally, it took Satan himself to stop a storybook run” with Tom Brady on screen was the absolute best line in this video 😂😂
Before I comment I just want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
"Fellow non-cuss word sayer" - best thumbs up like I've ever spent
Thank you for making this, Tebow was the BEST!!!
Thanks for getting more of these videos in, Brandon! They make your channel so much better. Can you try to get out another season recap soon? Maybe put up a poll to see which one people want to see? I’m interested to see which ones you have in mind.
Not a broncos fan, but the Tebow season was so damn fun. He really just kept winning and it was hard to ignore the divine intervention vibes lol.
What a season! I remember this season very well, what a good presentation.
I was 14 when we drafted Tebow and lemme tell ya, Tebow is my favorite player of all time (and Champ Bailey ❤)
I was in high school when Tebow played crazy how time goes by
“Tebow Time” was like appointment TV viewing. That season you always had to get the Broncos game on once it hit the 4th quarter.
I needed this trip down memory lane...thanks!
My first ever game was the miracle in OT vs the Steelers. I am now working in Colorado and hope to attend many more games. Go Broncos 💯👏
Tebow was given the choice between going to Jacksonville or the JETS. At times I wonder how his career would’ve gone had he chosen Jacksonville over NY.
As a Christian in Denver, I'm biased towards him. But here's why I think he got a raw deal:
1) Drafted too early, by a bad coach.
I totally forgot about that Tebow song. The internet was so great. Man, what a time to be alive.
Actually some UNBELIEVABLE times of football.. Always appreciate the times.. man they go fast
And that's what it comes down to. Tebow was a terrible QB, but gave me one of the most exciting seasons in Broncos history
He was my first Bronco Legend I ever watched. Wish we had him for longer 😢
I never had high hopes for Tebow but I watched that streak and those playoffs and it was magical.
Tebow may have never had an NFL skill set but more than any player I've ever seen he had heart.
As a new subscriber these Balls Deep episodes are so good I’ve pretty much binged watched them all
I’m so happy you made this.
I was a Broncos fan for that ONE year. Drinking the cool aid the whole year. Thank you for a great tribute to a great man.
Ultimate bandwagon
Yup!!!
Despicable
This was great bro!!!
I remember seeing so many Tebow jerseys come and go when I was in middle school, even I almost bought one and I wasn’t even a football fan
I managed an Italian joint adjacent to a bar that season. I would walk over after work on Sundays and catch the 4 o'clock games.
I got off that fateful night just in time to see the throw that ended the Steelers.
That was amazing.
Thank you for making football fun again.
Those comebacks were miraculous
That was a fun season for sure! Great recap Brandon!
I always wonder how many all-star QBs would’ve been a bust in the wrong system, or how many bust QBs would make it in the right system.
I went to FSU. It was tradition to write "Tebow Tears" on bottles of waters at tailgates
Double John 🤣🤣 got me. Literally one of his best clips that and scooter john
Thank you for this episode BP. It was a nice ride
The town wasn't big enough for the two of them. The Sherrif was the answer.
