    The Denver Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch, and missed out on Dak Prescott. They found Garett Bolles in 2017 and literally nobody else. 2018 the opted for Bradley Chubb over Josh Allen. The Entire 2019 Draft class is gone, and even their best pick in Patrick Suratin may have been wrong with Justin fields available.

    I firmly believe that even if the Broncos drafted Josh Allen, they would have completely mishandled his development and he would have been a bust. Just in the same way they did with Drew Lock.

    • @IntroducingMrLucci
      @IntroducingMrLucci 9 месяцев назад +11

      Drew Lock actually still has starting potential & likely would be very good right now had Carroll gave him the opportunity. As far as Allen his development came thru Palmer in the offseason who he'd still been working with if he went to the Broncos. & Broncos have invested alot into WR's so likely would've done very well with them along with a better O-Line(when healthy)ij denver.

    My biggest problem with Elway as a GM was how the O-line was often neglected in the drafts after Manning retired. Other than Bolles, it seems that he drafted undersized O-line projects in the later rounds that didn't pan out. In free agency, he gambled on big men coming off of injuries. No wonder the quarterback carousel happened! The O-line size and skill level is imperative to success of any QB. If you can't give him a clean pocket, he will fail. The league has changed since Elway won the Super Bowl with an undersized O-line against the GB Packers 25 years ago. Maybe he thought that the recipe would still work. The proof is in the pudding. Elway was a GREAT player!!! But as a GM, he fumbled the ball more than not.

    • @lindamccarrel8873
      @lindamccarrel8873 Год назад +6

      Very true. Elway had wonderful career as a player but was never very bright. Hearing him speak publicly is always an embarrassment. Too many former players think that playing the game equates to manage in the organization and they are typically failures like elway. He should have taken his super bowl rings and gone once his playing career ended. Now, especially outside of the suffocating foolishness of their delusional fans, the rest of the football world remembers him as a total failure as a general manager

    • @jdaniels1313
      @jdaniels1313 Год назад

      The back-to-back SB champ Broncos of the late 90's had a big-time running game that other teams couldn't stop, and great backs like Terrell Davis. I never realized those were "undersized" linemen. Also, Elway was hard to sack because of his mobility. Interesting that, as you say, Elway kept drafting smallish project O-Linemen, as if HE was still the QB under center.

    I'm a University of Utah alumnus and season ticket holder, so I mean this in the nicest way: teams shouldn't draft U of U offensive players in the first round. Utah teams--and esp their offenses--are always greater than the sum of their parts, and Utah's head coach Kyle Whittingham is well known for finding ways to maximize the talents of lesser players, which is a necessity when you have to recruit in the same region as USC and Oregon. I love Utah and I give Whittingham all the credit in the world for regularly kicking the shit out of teams that have more raw talent at every position, but that's exactly the point--Utah's excellent team play makes individual players look better than they are. If Garrett Boles, for example, had been taken as late second/early third round picks, the expectations for him would have been lower, he wouldn't have been expected to start immediately, and considering the level of play he eventually reached, he'd be see as a smart pick and nfl success story instead of a borderline first round bust. Alex Smith got screwed with coaching/front office stupidity at San Francisco, but I think a similar case could have been made that his career would have gone better if he hadn't been the first overall pick. And now there's buzz about TE Dalton Kincaid going in the first round, and jesus I hope that doesn't happen because he just isn't ready. Again, if he were to be drafted in the second or third rounds nd given some time to develop without the pressure to start then I think he could have an excellent professional career. But some stupid team like Dallas is going to take him in the first round and make him one more disappointment from Utah.

    • @lanceheaps581
      @lanceheaps581 Год назад

      The fact he was 25 years old when drafted to me means if he was a 4th rounder at Oline, or above I am expecting him to be able to start immediately. If not I might as well take a guy that is 3 or 4 years younger to develop in the first 4 rounds.

    Haven’t paid much attention to Denver’s drafts. For a while I thought Elway’s drafting of defensive players was pretty impressive. What’s really been remarkable though is how bad the team has been at drafting and developing QBs.

      They don't want to give them time to develop. They expect them to be superstars from their first game. This is real life, not Madden. It takes time.

    I don't think Josh Allen would have developed with the coaching staff at the time for the Broncos. It did take him a couple of seasons in Buffalo to get going, with much better coaching. So in a way, I am happy the Broncos didn't draft him because we wouldn't get to see awesomeness every week.
    At least this is what I tell myself to cope with not drafting him.

    • @TheInterestedObserver
      @TheInterestedObserver Год назад +1

      I think we can directly also attribute Allen's better numbers with the signing of Stefan Diggs. You can afford to be a foot or two off-target if the wide out has created three feet of separation. Not to downplay Allen's own improvements with accuracy and mechanics, that did happen too.

    9:39 - honestly it’s probably best for both Allen and the Broncos that Denver passed on him. He needed a lot of development to be good (he wasn’t good for a while with Buffalo) and he probably would not have turned out nearly as well with the Broncos.

    On the Josh Allen point, broncos had agreed with McBeane to trade 1.05 for the bills 2 first round picks (I wanna say 1.12 and 1.21? I forget exactly). Unless Chubb was still there. Thus, Chubb got drafted and the bills sent their early first and two other picks to move up and take Allen in a deal with the Bucs.

    Can anyone think of 5 tight ends worth a 1st round pick in the last 20 years? Vernon Davis, Heath Miller, and guy playing with Manning on colts Dallas Clark I think, are the only 3 true game changers who's production couldn't be replicated with other guys.
    I'm a lions fan and in the last 14 or so years lions took 3 tight ends in the 1st round. Pettigrew was essentially a bust. Ebron had skill but never actually developed and improved beyond where he started. Then God damn hockenson. Goff through 7 picks and 3 or 4 were going to hockenson where he missed a signal, ran the wrong route or gave up on a play.
    But lions took best receiving TE zylstra, best blocking TE Brock Wright, and the one who does both at average level but has high ceiling, and easily matched hockensons production while eliminating his errors.
    Guys like Hayden Hurst, Evan engram and Noah fant are basically considered bust or close to it. But if they were drafted round 3 or 4 they'd be a very nice draft pick up

    Hey I say the same thing about Casey remember when Casey drafted Nicole Hartman we literally could have had DK Metcalf and I believe a stud running back that class too and I believe saquon Barkley or some like that but no we opted to get Nicole Hartman who never lived up to his his pick actually the Edwards hilaire draft was the same way we could have got three other stud running backs before because he was a first back to go in that

    Brandon, you should thank the Broncos for jumping up to snatch Paxton Lynch away from the Chiefs.
    Part of your allure is as the humorous, lovable, long-suffering Broncos fan. That couldn't have happened if the Broncos weren't actively trying to out-dumpster-fire the Browns and be worse than Mark Davis's haircut.
    In a way, that draft pick made you who you are today.
    Much love for you and your coffee from Chiefs Kingdom. ❤💛

    It's not always bad when a draft pick doesn't turn out for the best.
    Imagine if your team's new franchise quarterback had a last name like "Butt"'. That would suck. I can't wear a Butt jersey all season. And rhythmically chanting "Go Butt!! Go Butt!" at the games all season. 😂
