The Broncos have drafted only one quarterback who ever has won a playoffs game for them: Tim Tebow. Let that sit in for a while. Craig Morton, John Elway, and Peyton Manning all took the Broncos to the Super Bowl, and Jake Plummer nearly did. All were drafted by other teams.
I remember walking out of the bar when this pick was announced. I knew he would bust. There was also some Broncos fans next to me, who I didn't know, they stood up and cheered and I laughed at them
I remember as a Jet fan I really wanted the Jets to draft him. It was the offseason after we missed the playoffs by 1 game. Fitzmagic was our QB and I personally wanted a bridge QB. Ryan for 2016 and Lynch in 2017. The NYC media would've torn Lynch up If he played like his real life stats.
Did the Jets draft Christian Hackenberg that year? I know he was not a 1st rounder but he was also a stiff. The teams that continually get the QB position wrong are at the bottom year in and year out.

Ive always felt like Vance Joseph was a good coach, but he never had a Qb. His time management and play challenge decisions were head scratching at times… never really had a fair chance.
My brother said the same thing about Vic Fangio, but Vic IMO had more than enough opportunities to correct his mistakes. I remember delivering to him and as I was approaching his house, his blinds were open and I casually looked over real quick. Inside, he was sitting in the middle of a poorly lit living room hovering over a thick book with his hands on both sides of his head. He looked up, we both made eye contact and didn't wave or react for a good 3-5 seconds. I put the package down and slowly walked backwards away from the window. That's my Paxton Lynch story.

I am so sick of this ridiculous, irresponsible narrative that Paxton Lynch couldn't succeed because he played too much Madden. It's just reprehensible and flat out wrong. He played too much Fortnite.
Honestly Lynch would probably be all pro with cowboys. Prescott makes simple throws that any qb can make. Lynch played 4 games with Broncos and got sacked 18 times. Lol with cowboys he'd at least have the best pass blocking oline, a top run game, and great receiving core instead of the mess Broncos had.
@@johnortan1890 I’ll give you the receiving core but man, the line in Dallas ain’t what it used to be in 2013-2017ish. Paxton Lynch being signed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders was something of an oddity. At the time, as you mentioned, we already had Cody Fajardo and Issac Harker as 1 and 2, with Mason Fine having just been signed at the end of 2020. Then all of a sudden the Riders signed both Lynch and Tom Flacco. I saw Paxton first professional regular season TD, I have the film. It was a bootleg in Tampa after Simeon got hurt. I told my friends this is a priceless memory. Doh!
Brandon "The Broncos haven't drafted a franchise quarterback since John Elway, all the way back since 1983" Perna
The Colts drafted Elway lol
@@thatsgoodsports That makes the Broncos look even worse!
I ACTUALLY THINK IF THE JETS DRAFTED HIM HE WOULD BE IN A LIL BETTER SPOT NOW LOOK AT WILSON HE IS DOING DECENT RIGHT NOW .
Did the Jets draft Christian Hackenberg that year? I know he was not a 1st rounder but he was also a stiff. The teams that continually get the QB position wrong are at the bottom year in and year out.
@@Kazpper88 in what world😂
I knew some of this story but hearing all of it is amazing 😂 the Seahawks letting the broncos trade up for Lynch and then giving them Wilson is gold to me 😂😂😂
And now it's happening the opposite now the Seahawks is getting the 1st round pick and the broncos are bad right now
Geez, that is one huge tire fire up there in Denver🛞🔥. Good luck to whomever is tasked with the “Russ Wilson Reclamation Project” for the 2023 NFL season😊. That is one TALL order.
The Broncos’ never ending quest to find Peyton Manning’s heir is the gift that keeps on giving for the Seahawks
Could you imagine if DB drafted Dak? Would be intriguing how he would work out.
The Broncos still went 9-7 that year with Trevor so maybe they make the playoffs. More importantly the cowboys would probably suck
@@TheFrostbite324 don't worry the cowboys suck. They always look good in the regulat season and almost always find a way to crash and burn in the playoffs.
@@gurgleblaster2282 They should start using the slogan "same old cowboys" instead of "how bout them cowboys"
As a cowboys fan, if you've ever seen Dak when the oline is not outstanding and the run game isn't working, than you would know that Broncos would have been lucky to get 1 win with Prescott starting an entire season.
Honestly Lynch would probably have had a successful career and maybe taken cowboys far in playoffs with the stacked oline, run game and receivers cowboys have.
@@johnortan1890 I mean Dak is better than Lynch by a lot lol. I just don't think he is as good as Tony Romo was. The cowboys are just cursed man. They have always had the talent just can't ever seem to put it together.
That Dwayne Haskins callout didn’t age well.
Not at all
because he died? No it’s still the truth. Even if he is dead
nobody remembers the team that takes a chance in the 3rd or 4th round on a QB. Even the 2nd. Everyone remembers the team that misses on their 1st round QB.
I mean, if you’re drafted in the first round there is some degree of high expectation especially in the first round. These are people who can be day 1 starters and are expected to perform as such
The dwayne haskins mention. Four days after this video came out he passed away.
I'm a Colts fan. Our franchise sold the farm to take Jeff George with the first pick overall. Thank God for the Raiders, because they're the only thing saving us from being the biggest joke in the NFL.
Come on now, we also drafted Jamarcus Russell. Why do you need to pile on to my misery?
@@SpecialAgentEBunny Thank you for your service. Indianapolis, Cleveland, and Detroit are all better places for the sacrifices you've made. Also, I needed that to take my mind off 33-0 in the 4th.
Denver just didn't use all the tools at their disposal. All you had to do was put the actual playbook into Madden with the custom play feature and suddenly this is the best playbook study ever!
It was that dab that brought him bad juju. Also, it’s ironically funny I’m watching this after he got benched in the XFL. Lol
This was a really well done video, Brandon. Would like to see more content like this. Nice work 👍
The Dwayne Haskins joke did not age well. Not that you could have known, but still... so sad.
Sir. Grow up.

As a Bengals fan in 2023, this video was a great reminder that Trevor Siemian started two seasons with 3-0 starts (with 4-0 in one of those years). We will need some success like that while Joe Cool Burrow is out!
Here is another long forgotten bust... Dan McGwire the 16th pick in the 91 draft by Seattle. He was huge! 6'8 240 lbs and was Mark McGwire younger brother
And now he's playing (or getting benched) for the Guardians in the XFL.
This Guy Is Responsible For John Elway Not Longer Being The Broncos G.M And The Start Of A Six Year Pitfall Into Irrelevance....THANKS JOHN
It would be pretty cool if you covered other draft busts or players that are often forgotten.
The Paxton Lynch smear campaign is alive and well every morning on 104.3 The Fan- still makes me laugh to this day.
Imagine the NFL granting your dying wish of announcing your favorite teams pick and it's Paxton Lynch
Really enjoyed this new(er?) format. I like your "news" coverage, but this long-form vid was great!
You should save episodes like this for Covid 2.0. I remember when there wasn't much for you to do when the NFL was unsure of what they were gonna do for the 2020 season.
Like thatll happen
Famous last words lol
This is so stupid
2:58 size queens 👸🏼. Lol this content is really gold and I didn’t care about the broncos ever until the last few weeks when I learned Brandon Perna existed and made NFL commentary content.
I remember watching him play against the Bucs and thought he looked decent. But it unfortunately never amounted to any tangible consistent skill from him.
Paxton the Pirate eye-patches would've been a best-seller.
Imagine being Paxton lynch browsing RUclips and you see this 🤣
Ah the good ol days when Jon Elway was picking qbs. Sure gonna miss Elway doing the critical picking. He broke our hearts in ways that Denver has never felt! Thise 90s teams of the chiefs a🎉nd the great defense and special teams led by Marty shottenhiemer beat every team but Denver and the fighting Elways regular. Raiders, chargers, Seahawks, the chiefs dominated except for Denver seemed like every year. Mad respect for John Elway as a qb. Damn he was sensational! Played his best against the chiefs more come from behind victories against the chiefs than any other team. He killed the chiefs.
9:45 - The thing abt this throw while Paxton Kynch was scrambling towards the left sideline is that IF HE THROWS IT at the right time - Whixh wld have been abt 5 or 6 (Maybe 7) steps BEFORE he actually let it rip that he wld ha e thrown a td to an UNCOVERD 85 - But by the time he either GOT to that progression OR realized he was uncovered at the latest possible point he throws & the rest as they say is history...
Now though with WILSON jn the ring Denver will MAKE that TD and prob even if thrown when Pax threw his ball I wld bet WILSKN makes it into trips covered lmao
Nope
17:11 ah yes, Jeff Fisher a supportive head coach 😂😂
This pick set the broncos back 5 years. :(
Tebow? Peyton Manning saved the broncos from that mess.
They could’ve drafted Josh Allen in 2018 but took Bradley Chubb who has been awful outside of his rookie year. Elway is a horrible evaluator of quarterbacks.
@@MrRyan-wu4jx imagine where the broncos would be if they got Josh Allen, instead we're stuck with old Russ cooking up cat shit salad every week.
I watched his bowl game and was a believer, didn't last, but then you see Geno Smith resurge and wonder if we give up on a lot of QBs too early.
Correct decisions start at the top, from ownership to that last crucial play on the field, everything has to gel. This seems like a good start towards that 'gel' feeling again, Denver just needs a great owner to seal the deal.
@@yortomatic absolutely true. It all starts at the top… the ownership issue the bronco’s have been dealing with for a number of years now has really affected the organization negatively.
@@reesbritton6623 Yep
Joe Ellis was the reason they hired Joseph. Nobody else interviewed him.
Some coaches are just better at coordinator. Thinking Norv Turner (90’s kids will know this name) and Wade Phillips. Good at coaching one side of the ball. Garbage at coaching a whole team.
I love your channel man, you're one of the best sports reporters I know when it comes to the whole package, sense of humor with solid takes and you actually know what you're talking about
Love this show i watch every show. Gotta get some of ur coffee
I used to work at Target and Lynch asked me where the whipped cream was. Hopefully everyone's life is richer bc they now know that.
If only Paxton had grown into a QB that could keep games close and possibly win it in the 4th. Then the dream of Paxton Clench could come true
Fun fact: that pick Paxton through in week 12 vs the Raiders was the Raiders first interception all season.
When Lynch’s career ends, Mahomes’ begins ❤️💛
Big fan of the videos like this keep em coming
Brandon "Imma bout to educate ya" Perna
I've seldom seen a QB more uncomfortable and awkward in the pocket than Paxton Lynch.
Oof that Dwayne Haskins line didn't age well.
Thanks Perna 😎
Love your content.
This was a great change-of-pace video. Now do one on Manziel and one on Rosen. Only you could do them justice.
I'll never forget him. Especially because I'm a broncos fan from Memphis. I thought a Memphis qb was going to lead my nfl team for years to come
I called Paxton Lynch a bus before he ever played for the broncos. College football is no longer the stepping stone to the NFL for a quarterback.

His last throw was kind of unlucky. If the TE secures that ball Lynch looks like a badass. Sometimes it's just bad luck.
No, he sucked donkeyballs, no luck about it, there was LOTS of on-film data that he did not have the ability to learn the playbook, let alone implement it.
Love these types of videos! Both informative and funny 👍
Rip Haskins
Completely forgot about this dude. Also Brock Osweiler! Dude played decent at best with the broncos then fleeced Houston for money
Teddy Gregory was the biggest bust in broncos history. And nobody remembers him...
Plenty do, or at least old timers, that was one were it was controversial with the "analysts" but many were "WTactualF?!!?" He never made it to a real game. Interesting looking back at the Reeves picks, some real stinkers. 157 "utility backs" thanks, Steve Sewell.
I just remember him crying after he went 3 and out 2 times and on the third drive he got strip sacked so Siemian took over. He seemed to never bounce back
Rip Dwayne
been watching you for a while and i really enjoy your take on the NFL. not a bronco fan but still think your vids like this one are very interesting. please consider doing a vid on randy gradishar and the whole HOF issue. another bronco to look into is john mobley. I dont believe most bronco fans dont know how his story ended up (very interesting indeed). take care and good luck.
I remember the Christmas rhyme I made about him. 🎶 You're a draft bust, Mr. Lynch. You're an aw-ful quar-ter-back. You'll be talked about on Monday, cause you can't win on a Sunday, Mr. Lyyyyyynnnch!🎶 The Lynch who stole Christmas.
6:18 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am so sick of this ridiculous, irresponsible narrative that Paxton Lynch couldn't succeed because he played too much Madden. It's just reprehensible and flat out wrong.
He played too much Fortnite.
6:20 we all collectively said "oh no" after seeing this 😂💀
Crazy to think that if my beloved cowboys traded up for lynch instead of the Broncos we wouldn’t have gotten Dak thanks Denver 😁
We also have Denver to thank for Micah Parsons. Such a generous franchise :) (though Patrick Surtain, who Dallas would’ve taken, is great)
It was an investment so we could have Randy Gregory spit in Jerry's eye and sign with us.
It's ok we have a super bowl in the last 20 years 😂
Honestly Lynch would probably be all pro with cowboys.
Some of the biggest needs going into the draft for Dallas are a left guard and a center. I will admit, they are better than Denver’s line but for Dallas they’re middle of the pack, if not a little below average
Excellent video!!would love to see more documentary style contact from you like this, absolutely loved it!
Seeing him crying like that how could you not feel sorry for this guy?? Always a sad story when you see a guy like this.
What a loser. Crying over a kids game when in reality people live real lives with real problems. Again , what a loser
Oh please man. The nfl doesn’t give out participation trophies, they give million dollar checks, he sucked.
Who actually thought this was a good pick? Who thought he was going to a star QB? His chances of being a long term start were slim at best. I kinda think markets like Denver get too wrapped up in mediocre players. Good on you for getting a vid out of someone most fans forgot existed.
I wish we would’ve seen more of Chad Kelly. He had something….
Yeah, he looked good in the pre season... like really good. But he was a head case. His problem stories from college, and his parting Denver Halloween debacle story, are ridiculous. Like WTF. Couldn't get out of his own way.
But in truth, if he really had something...he would have made us regret cutting him, as he took off somewhere else. But he didn't. I don't think he's even in the league anymore..
On the topic of stud Denver preseason QBs... Kyle Slotter, or whatever his name was, he looked awesome too 🤣😂
I bought the August/September 2016 Beckett Football Price Guide and he was on the cover. The caption said “Why Paxton Lynch is Ready to Lead the Champs”. That’s the forgotten hype around this guy.
Bro not Haskins
Someone has never heard of Brian Bosworth.
I knew Dak would fall to the 4th and wanted the the Browns to draft Zeke in the 1st, Hunter Henry in the 2nd, WR in 3rd, and Dak in the 4th for Hue Jackson to develop behind a veteran for a year or two.
When the Broncos traded back into the 1st, I was convinced that they were about to draft Dak but they didn't.
Elway is simply a moron evaluating young QB talent and threw at least two HCs under the bus for his idiotic picks
Thing is arguably Dak woulda hit rock bottom in Cleveland back then, Jackson made a career ruining QBs and teams
@@snakeguy8646 At that time I thought Jackson was a QB whisperer ... and likewise thought Elway actually knew how to spot talented QBs to develop.
Had serious doubts about Jackson & Elway after that draft.
Prescott would have never started on Broncos. There is big difference between top oline, and one of the worst olines, top run game and one of the worst run games, top receiving core and middle of the road receiving cores.
@@johnortan1890 Dak last year had one of the worst Oline with a non existent running game and was carrying Dallas all season. Yall need to stop living in 2016. Dallas roster is trash and overrated outside Dak and Parsons
@@boneruler2338 they had the #1 ranked pass blocking oline last year. And since dak was 0-6 when the run game is under 100 yards last season, dak wasn't carrying anyone. Funny thing is that Cooper Rush the backup was 1-0 with the run game under 100 yards.
It should definitely keep this type of Series going
he was a Fortnite champion though
Paxton Lynch being signed to the Saskatchewan Roughriders was something of an oddity. At the time, as you mentioned, we already had Cody Fajardo and Issac Harker as 1 and 2, with Mason Fine having just been signed at the end of 2020. Then all of a sudden the Riders signed both Lynch and Tom Flacco. It was a bit of a head scratcher moment as we already had a good QB core, so why we needed 5 QB's in the off-season didn't make sense. And then to do nothing with either Flacco or Lynch just seemed really weird.
The CFL sometimes doesn't make any sense...
I feel like he is forgotten because most ppl don’t think of a late first round pick as a bust unless they are a train wreck like Johnny Manziel.
I can never look at Paxton lunch like a bust because i never once believed he had nfl ability to begin with. His whole ascension to first round pick status felt like hype and desperation.
